Recap: Poppies 2025 Awards 🏆1️⃣7️⃣🎉

Greetings, Poppie-tropicans! This weekend was the PHB’s 17th birthday, and we celebrated by announcing the winners of the Poppies, our Poptropica fan awards. We appreciate everyone for joining in on the fun this month, from nominating to voting, with almost 400 votes. Wow!

We kicked off the party with a chaotic pre-show skit right before the awards, and every author was featured in our Poppies presentation, which doesn’t happen very often! You can take a look at the video below or keep scrolling for the list of winners.

It was a shame the Poptropica common rooms wouldn’t work, so we couldn’t see each other in them, but that didn’t stop us from having fun! During the party, a group of us lingered after the announcements and played a few rounds of Gartic Phone, which has always been a great time whenever we’ve played it on the Poptropica Help Chat (PHC). Check out a few of our masterpieces! 😏

I spy with my private eye some Poptropica news 👁️🔍

Greetings, Poptropicans! We at the PHB apologize for the lack of news coverage these past couple of weeks. We have been preoccupied by Poppies planning and your fantastic fanfictions. Luckily, we uncovered some juicy updates and memes. Here is what we found:

We began our investigation on Home Island. While we didn’t see anything new outside, we found that Adventure Outfitters had changed its display for July. This month’s display features the return of old costumes (including Maryann-favorite Acidic Dinosaur🦖), as well as some summer clubhouse decorations. 🏖️👕🏡

We then took to the skies and surveyed the islands below. Some quick investigating revealed that Survival Episode 3: Distress Signal is now available to all players! 🏔️📻 There are two more episodes that have yet to reappear on desktop, but you can play them now on Steam or with AS3 Flashpoint.

That can’t be all, right? We turned our focus to social media and found a few notable posts. The first post is a news report covering how a brave Poptropican named Courageous Bean thwarted the hare-brained scientist, Dr. Hare, who is now in prison for treason and tax evasion. We reached out to Courageous Bean for more information, but they unfortunately never replied to our message.

How about Dr. Hare? Our only clue is this image of him writing messages to music sensation Taylor Swift. Perhaps he is convincing her to bail him out of prison? Poptropica’s police department might want to keep an eye on the situation.

This next bit of news resonated with us detectives. July’s member gifts give members the ability to become private eye investigators. Members can now don a stylish Private Eye outfit, wield a magnifying glass, and ride around on a scooter. 🔍🛵

Our last discovery might be the juiciest of them all. It has been suggested that Zomberry Island‘s blueberry smoothies might have predicted McDonald’s Grimace Shake. Pop Creator Jonathan Pitcher shared his fondness toward Grimace, so there is a connection between these deadly drinks. 🫐🥛

Grapple Gifts and Gear Galore 🎁🎁

Happy Grapple-Pap, everyone! It’s time to celebrate Poptropica’s latest holiday tradition! Home Island is now a winter wonderland decked with colorful lights and crates, and the Baron is here with Grapple gear to spread some holiday cheer! ☃️❄️

The Baron’s Cabin of Curiosities is stocked with holiday décor and costumes galore! On your right, you’ll find some Grapple-Pap goodies such as a Grapple totem (150 credits), a stained glass chandelier (150 credits), a mistletoe garland (50 credits), a Grapple bust statue (150 credits), and a traditional Grapple-Garb outfit (50 credits).

Among these Grapple goods, you’ll find the three winning costumes from last month’s poll: Love Potion Demon, Ice Cream Cat, and Movie Geek. If you missed these costumes the first time around, now is your chance to get them for free! 💗🍨🍿

On your left, you’ll find Maroon Moon’s Dr. Hare outfit, the winning design of November’s costume contest. All players can sport this casual look inspired by Poptropica’s most iconic villain for free! 🐰🥕 The Baron can’t help highlighting her generosity if you talk to her.

Now that this hare-raising look is available in-game, the Pop Creators finally posted a video showcase of November’s costume contest entries.

Among last month’s submissions are awe-inspiring animals, Christmas costumes, and… Rick Astley. Now that’s one that’ll never let us down. Anyway, here are my favorite entries from this reel:

By the way, ask the Baron where her Grapple-wares are from, and she’ll mention a place we’ve never heard of: Kraghorn Island. The Baron says it’s not on our map, but might there be a future adventure there like the Baron’s Crusade? Maybe she’ll take us sometime; we’ll see!

In contrast to the Baron’s festive findings, Amelia added two spooky costumes to the Adventure Outfitters gallery: the bewitching Wicked Wizard outfit and the members-only Dark Wizard outfit. While these villainous vestments appear new to newer players, they actually debuted back in November 2019 during Home Island’s wizard makeover. New or not, both of these bewitching looks cost 350 credits.

Along with celebrating Grapple-Pap, members can celebrate the 12 Days of Member Gifts. On the first day, they received winter garland, snow globe, and deer decorations to deck their clubhouse halls. Then, on the second day, they received violet, gray, and blue beanies to keep their detachable heads warm.

Day 3’s gifts aren’t here at the time of writing this post, but a strange development occurred. While I was on Poptropica today, I discovered that Day 1’s member gifts disappeared from my inventory. It turns out that these initially free decorations can now be purchased from the clubhouse store for 100 credits each. What’s the reason for this happening?

To end off this extensive holiday post, we have a new ad for the Disney Channel original movie “Christmas… Again?!” Watching the short ad gifts you two prizes with special spacebar actions. You can ride around and rev your engine in Ro’s Race Car, then summon a snowstorm, err, flurry with the Mall Santa Suit. 🏎️🎅

Call me Instagram—I mean, Ishmael 🐳

Hey Poptropicans! In this post, we’ve got Instagram highlights of fan art and more, plus a guest writer looking into a Poptropica character with history. Let’s pop in!

First up, on Instagram this week, the Pop Creators shared an IGTV video showing off the brand new Baron’s airship. And as usual, it’s followed by lots of fantastic fan art, including costume contest entries, OCs, and even the PHB’s 2021 Poppies, where nominations are currently open! 🏆

Also on Instagram, the Creators shared a new graphic to celebrate the 4th of July, aka US Independence Day last weekend. It’s a little ironic that Dr. Hare, Poptropica’s resident carrot slave owner, is out here proclaiming freedom. But hey, villains do love a good fireworks show! 🎆

In other news, the Creators’ Blog recently shared a guest post from a new guest writer, Happy Starfish, who gave a deep dive into an old Poptropica character that’s been making a few comebacks: Ishmael, the boy in blue winter clothes.

You may remember the guy from Fairytale Island when you were carrying Cinderella to the ball, or sometimes spot him in ad spaces promoting the Arcade. But if you’re a real Pop veteran, you may recognize him as the whale lover you saved on the now-gone SOS Island.

Although the post doesn’t mention the kid’s name, it does have significance: Ishmael is a nod to the first-person narrator in the classic 1851 novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville, on which the story of SOS Island draws inspiration. Good day Poptropicans! Hope you’re staying safe and cozy as the holiday season arrives. Speaking of arrivals, the retro-style minigame event we’ve been waiting for is here, and it’s finally got a name: Hoptropica!

Hoptropica leaps onto the first page of the island map and is free for all to play. But it’s only here for a limited time, so you’d better hop to it!

As you can see on the title screen above, the first step is to choose your furry doctor: classic Dr. Hare or—what’s this?—the delightful Dr. Beev is here too as a playable character. What a welcomed surprise! Once you have selected your character, it’s time to hop into the game.

The game’s premise and controls are pretty simple: just click above your character in the direction you want to hop (or use the left and right arrow keys), and try to go as high as you can before time runs out!

Of course, simple doesn’t always mean easy. Along the way, you’ll encounter both tricky platforms and helpful items. Here’s a guide:

Helpful items to pick up

  • 🕐 Clock – Grants additional time
  • ⭐️ Star – Grants even more time! (more than the clock)

Know your platforms

  • Pink/Green – Disappears and reappears (time your jumps!)
  • Ridged – Think fast, this platform falls if you stand on it for too long!
  • Clear – Can’t jump on this platform, it’s technically invisible
  • Spiked – Avoid jumping on this platform or you’ll get spiked!

Turn up the volume for a jaunty tune as you hop through the colorful pixel heavens! Hoptropica is visually appealing, fairly addictive, and fun to play, so enjoy it while it’s here. And if you’re really good, you might want to post your high score on social media with the hashtag #hoptropica for a chance to be featured by the Poptropica Creators!
