Howdy and hello Poptropicans! It’s Sporty Boa here dropping by with some news for you!
Poptropica’s Blog has been bustling with upcoming updates and information, but first and foremost, Poptropica’s Costume Contest for the month of June has officially closed as of 8pm PST Monday night.
The Pop creators mentioned having received a lot of creative submissions, and who knows? If you were able to submit your design in time, it may just find itself in the game as the winning entry!
I personally have a few fond flashbacks regarding these costume contests, as almost five years ago it was one of my earliest involvements with the Poptropica community!
I got so swept up in the sweet memories that I went ahead and redrew my Legendary wizard robe costume which I plan to submit for July’s Costume Contest:
If you were also unable to submit a costume concept this month, no need to worry! Because the costume contest is monthly, stay alert for the creators announcement regarding July’s contest and get those costume creations crafted!
Speaking of creations, we have a couple cool fan art features on the gram:
Stellar pieces of artwork we got here! (I would take a few pieces of that delicious-looking cake if I could 😋)
Additionally, Poptropica has got some updated items in the clubhouse store for you to checkout. (Thanks to Capax infini for the pic!)
A few items are catching my eye as I’m always on the lookout for some interesting items to jazz up my clubhouse. (Tour coming soon!)
Well, that’s a wrap on this short and sweet news update! I’m curious to know what creative costumes you’ve submitted, or plan to submit for the Monthly Costume Contest as well as which of the updated store items you’d like to get your circular hands on!
Enjoy the day and remember to stay safe and stay awesome!
First things first, Poptropica has added brand new Fairy Tale Island-themed merch to their store!
New clothing, stickers, sunglasses, masks and more products featuring Poptropica’s newest characters have been added to the catalog! Also as shown in the images above, you can get 15% off your purchase by applying the promo code: ZAZZTHANKYOU. I myself plan to take advantage of this poptastic deal and finally order those adorable Hoptropica stickers I’ve been wanting!
Speaking of treating yourself to sweet new stuff, Poptropica’s crazy coolCandy Crazed mini questwill be availablefor all players to enjoy tomorrow! Thanks to a leak from Silver Horse on the PHC, we get to sink our teeth into this pleasant prologue comic:
This sweet sneak peek provides some insight as to the plot and characters within the mini quest. Plus, Poptropica’s latest blog post dished out some eye candy of their own by verifying that the two chomping chums in the comic are none other than the famous fairytale siblings, Hansel and Gretel!
Could this reveal give us some reason to suspect this quest takes place within the realm of Fairy Tale Island? All this candy craziness has me craving for more! Thankfully the wait is almost over…
Let me know in the comments what has you hyped for tomorrow’s mini quest release, as well as what new merch items caught your eye on Poptropica’s updated merch store!
Hey all, Sporty Boa here! As you may know, Poptropica’s Design Your Dream Island Contest has come to a close with the creators announcing the highly-anticipated third and final winning submission a couple days ago. Secret of the Jade Scarab Island took this special spot alongside Fairy Tale & Goofball Island as the winning ideas, but the these were no easy choices. The Poptropica Creators stated that they reviewed all the submissions not once, not twice, but TWELVE TIMES to determine the final winner of the Dream Island Contest!
If it hasn’t already been made apparent, this community is truly brimming with creative ideas and concepts for islands they wish to see in Poptropica. We here at the PHB would love to grant the opportunity for you to share those ideas with our new series: My Dream Island!
Similar to our long running series, My Place in Poptropica, My Dream Island allows for you, the community, to share you own island ideas here on the Poptropica Help Blog. If you are interested in this opportunity, let us know by writing for the PHB!
My Dream Island: Sporty Boa
I’ll go first to kick of things off! Like several PHB authors, I entered Poptropica’s Dream Island contest. Although ours weren’t selected as winners, our island ideas remain dear to us. I for one would love to share my Cretaceous creation: Prehistoric Peril Island!
Millions of years ago, all of Poptropica’s dinosaurs went extinct. Or did they? Adventurer-seeking millionaire Harold Mews has found evidence that begs to differ: A super-secret remote island where dinosaurs continue to roam free! He recruits your Poptropican for the mission of a lifetime: To travel to this mysterious island and obtain sufficient evidence of living dinosaurs! Thankfully you won’t be on your own, a team of Poptropica’s biggest and brightest minds join you on this epic escapade, with high tech gadgets at your disposal. However, no amount of tech or expertise can prepare you and your team for the challenges that lie ahead. On Prehistoric Peril Island, surprises await around every corner as you encounter creatures lost to time, and if you’re not careful, you may become one of them!
The bulk of the story takes place on the enigmatic Dino Island, where vegetation shrouds this wild world and vibrant life surrounds you. Dino Island hosts various terrains home to various dinosaurs, you must be able to traverse them all in an effort to survive.
Cretaceous Coast – Helicopter landing site
Paleozoic Plains – Location of Research Site A and the locus for your team’s Biological and Historical field studies
Dino Desert – Location of Research Site B and the locus for your team’s Paleontology and Geological studies
Jurassic Jungle – Dense and dangerous rain forest area, home to a mysterious and somewhat familiar face
Archaic Caves – These caves reveal secrets of the past… well, present. Time is weird on Dino Island!
Prehistoric Peril Island marks the return of a handful of classic and beloved characters (marked with *) along with some new faces to add to the ever-expanding world of Poptropica!
Herald Mews* – Owner of the Mews Foundation; A kind, adventurous explorer keen on pushing the boundaries of science. Loves cryptids and never-before seen creatures.
Dr. Alima – Poptropica’s top paleontologist and paleobotanist, leader of the expedition team
Professor Hammerhead* – 100 year old explorer, expert in ancient civilizations and island survival
Shark Guy* – Professor Hammerhead’s protégé and caretaker
Professor Pendulum* – Inventor of Poptropica’s first (and only) time machine, expert in all things time-related.
Dr. Lange* – Head scientist of the Poptropica Disease Center; Medical professional and expert
Medicine Man – Native of the mysterious Dino Island, Concoctor of special potions
Cave Collector – A long-time castaway and unstable thief/inventor, this cave man is desperate to escape Dino Island by any means necessary.
Megalodon Man – Shark Guy wants to make a bigger impact on the team so he drinks a potion from the medicine man, transforming him into the monstrous megalodon man!
I approached the creation of Prehistoric Peril Island with a relatively blank slate, wishing to create a fun and unique experience for old and new players alike. While much of the story came off the dome, I combined aspects of my personal favorite islands, Cryptids & Shark Tooth, especially when it came to characters. New characters, like Dr. Alima and the Caveman, were also inspired by things close to home, like my verdant villain costume I made for the PHB’s Halloween contest. In a nutshell, Poptropica inspired me, along with my love for prehistoric life and the natural world.
I hope you enjoyed reading about my Dream Island, Prehistoric Peril! If you’re interested in learning more about my island, I plan on posting the full story/walkthrough on the Sporty Boa Blog and my YouTube channel. Its planning and creation has been something I’ve enjoyed and put a lot of thought into, and even though I didn’t win the contest, I am still incredibly pleased with my work.
If you too are inspired to share your island idea, don’t hesitate to whip up a post like this one, highlighting story, settings, characters, and inspiration, and we’ll share them here on the PHB’s My Dream Island series! I hope you all stay safe and stay awesome, this Boa’s gotta bounce!
Good day Poptropicans! Hope you’re staying safe and cozy as the holiday season arrives. Speaking of arrivals, the retro-style minigame event we’ve been waiting for is here, and it’s finally got a name: Hoptropica!
Hoptropica leaps onto the first page of the island map and is free for all to play. But it’s only here for a limited time, so you’d better hop to it!
As you can see on the title screen above, the first step is to choose your furry doctor: classic Dr. Hare or—what’s this?—the delightful Dr. Beev is here too as a playable character. What a welcomed surprise! Once you have selected your character, it’s time to hop into the game.
The game’s premise and controls are pretty simple: just click above your character in the direction you want to hop (or use the left and right arrow keys), and try to go as high as you can before time runs out!
Of course, simple doesn’t always mean easy. Along the way, you’ll encounter both tricky platforms and helpful items. Here’s a guide:
Helpful items to pick up
🕐 Clock – Grants additional time
⭐️ Star – Grants even more time! (more than the clock)
Know your platforms
Pink/Green – Disappears and reappears (time your jumps!)
Ridged – Think fast, this platform falls if you stand on it for too long!
Clear – Can’t jump on this platform, it’s technically invisible
Spiked – Avoid jumping on this platform or you’ll get spiked!
Turn up the volume for a jaunty tune as you hop through the colorful pixel heavens! Hoptropica is visually appealing, fairly addictive, and fun to play, so enjoy it while it’s here. And if you’re really good, you might want to post your high score on social media with the hashtag #hoptropica for a chance to be featured by the Poptropica Creators!
Can’t get enough 8-bit Beev and Hare? The Creators also announced brand new stickers on their Zazzle merch store! Joining the handful of stickers from before are our new 8-bit buddies as well as the icons of islands already ported to Haxe, plus fan favorite Monster Carnival and under-the-radar Mission Atlantis.
Hello friends, hope you’re having an awesome day! I know for a fact that Poptropica sure has been having an awesome month, full of elating events, colorful creations, and of course, beautiful beevs.
Speaking of which, last week the Pop Creators posted FOUR new Instagram story features! Two of these amazing pieces feature our favorite fuzzy doctor, and another was even created by the PHB’s very own Gentle Dolphin.
We love seeing the creators recognizing the fans and community. Which reminds me, 10,000 credits are still on the table as the Dr. Beev drawing challenge ends tomorrow! You can submit your Beev fanart by using the tag #drbeev, where you can also peep some of the submitted works.
The month of September has brought us some great new Poptropica content in the artistic realm. To keep the good times rolling, a new wave of videos have been published from fans! Me and fellow PHB author, Gentle Dolphin, have also been swept along for the ride as we couldn’t help but join in on the fun. Check out our Pop Month videos below:
Though it is a bit sad knowing Pop Month is coming to an end, we gotta give a big thanks to Theo and Isaac of Dimension Bros as well as all of the wonderful junior creators and fans who have helped make this truly a month to remember!
Let us know what you enjoyed most about Poptropica Month! Whether it was the art, videos, Beev Day, or just overall activity, we’d love to hear from you guys in the comments. As always, stay safe and stay awesome!
