The Multiplayer Room Games: My Least Favorite to Favorite ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ

Howdy, Poptropicanos! I’m pleased to present yet another ranking, this time focusing on the eight classic multiplayer room mini-games.

While many of the games were removed with the introduction of the Blast-Off Arcade in 2018, a select few have remained. I found that the multiplayer games contributed to a heightened sense of interactivity with fellow Poptropicans, making our parties all the more enjoyable.

Without wasting any more time, let us delve into this ranking, shall we?

#8: Balloons ๐ŸŽˆ

In the unfortunate position of last place, we have Balloons. *sad trombone* The premise of this game is not very innovative, as it essentially replicates the mechanics of Connect 4, failing to offer a sufficient enjoyable challenge for me. While I do not wish to sound overly critical, I believe this one could easily have been among the five games that were removed, and its absence would not have been greatly felt. Also, I’ve noticed that a significant number of my games tend to conclude in draws, which I find somewhat unsatisfying. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

#7: Pathwise ๐Ÿ’ง

It’s quite ironic that I’ve placed Pathwise so low on my list, given that it was my very first favorite multiplayer room game a long time ago, if my memory serves me right. Pathwise is not a terrible game by any means; however, I tend to feel a bit bored during my goes at it. I do not find myself particularly eager to play again immediately after completing a round with another player. Consequently, it will remain at 7th place. ๐Ÿ˜›

#6: Hoops ๐Ÿ€

Hoops is ranked 6th on the court, as I majorly stink at this game! ๐Ÿ˜€ While I certainly value a good challenge, I get a bit annoyed with consistently losing around 80% of the time. However, I do relish the dynamic and fast-paced nature of this one, particularly in contrast to games like Balloons and Pathwise (shots fired). Therefore, I feel that its placement in the lower-mid tier is appropriate.

#5: Sky Dive ๐Ÿช‚

Next on the list is a game that appears to be a popular choice among players: Sky Dive. In my opinion, this game lacks substance and could use an extended gameplay; however, I can’t deny its addictive nature. The rush of adrenaline I experience right after landing encourages me to immediately replay the game. Remember when it was possible to fall through the floor? That was iconic. I’m going to have to remove some points for the change of that detail.

I could easily make around 20 dives from the clouds before I decide to exit the game, unless my opponent becomes disinterested and leaves first. As I said before, I do wish that each round could be longer and feature obstacles, though โ”€ similar to many of the ad games we saw in the past.

#4: Paint War ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

We now arrive at the games that have more of an umph factor. Paint War takes its place at 4th, for its fun and competitive essence. The vibrant mess left in the wake of the game only enhances its allure. Although Paint War is comparable to Hoops, I experience a much higher level of joy while playing this game. The idea of operating a paint gun is far more appealing to me than basketball or any other sport for that matter. Am I alone in experiencing a peculiar sense of satisfaction when the paint bubbles burst? ๐Ÿ˜„

#3: Star Link ๐ŸŒ

The top trio of games I have picked are those that have always been enjoyable to me. The first among these remarkable selections is Star Link, a game that remains accessible to us even today. It’s always my go-to option for PHC parties nowadays (which we may or may not be having soon ๐Ÿ˜‰). Not to toot my own horn, but I can confidently say that I do quite well in this game. Although I have experienced a few pathetic defeats ahem, thanks for that Smart Icicle, my overall win-to-loss ratio remains pretty impressive. Additionally, I appreciate the game’s visually appealing celestial setting, which adds to its charm. ๐ŸŒŒ

#2: Sudoku ๐Ÿ”ข

My selection for the 2nd place position may raise some eyebrows, given the opinions I’ve seen expressed by various community members; that being Sudoku. Sudoku ranks among my favorite games to occupy myself with both on and off Poptropica, since I’m a huge nerd. ๐Ÿค“

The thrill of competing against an opponent to fill the grid as efficiently as possible can be somewhat anxiety-inducing, yet it mostly served as a super fun experience for me. I often found myself pleasantly surprised when I surpassed my own previous high scores. ๐Ÿ˜ Without a doubt, this was the common room game in which I excelled the most during its time in Poptropica. Good times…

#1: Soupwords ๐Ÿฒ

Soupwords has claimed the 1st place spot as my favorite multiplayer game, just barely surpassing Sudoku. Although it is fundamentally similar to Boggle, the game does not need to be unique, as its entertainment value is really that great. I have a fondness for games that engage the mind and promote mental sharpness, and Soupwords effectively does just that. I found the concept of using alphabet soup as the game board to be quite clever too! While I may not have been an expert at this game, I’d say I performed decently and thoroughly had fun every time I played, which is what is most important.

I really miss the feeling of winning at Sudoku and Soupwords! Sure, I had my fair share of losses too, but honestly, I would gladly lose over and over just to have the opportunity to play those games again.

Which game did you enjoy the most? Feel free to share your own rankings and memories of these games in the comments section! I appreciate you reading, and I’ll catch you in the next one. Pop on! ๐Ÿ€

Blast from the Past

2009 Rewind: Pop-ular Places

This post is part of our Poptropica Yearbook series. If you missed the intro, check it out on the 2007 Rewind and view the follow-up 2008 Rewind.

It’s a fine time to check out 2009! With both the Poptropica Creators’ Blog and Poptropica Help Blog in full swing, the online Poptropica community was growing exponentially, even inspiring new fan sites.

The year kicked off with Big Nate Island in February, after months of Big Nate comics shared on the Creators’ Blog.

While sneak peeks for upcoming islands from the Creators were wildly popular, the PHB took a step further and started a series known as PHB Sneak Peeks. These were glances at things even the Creators hadn’t revealed:

Over on the PHB, we were up to lots of shenanigans as well. In April, for example, we had great success with our “Club Penguin Help Blog” prank that fooled even the Poptropica Creators โ€” if only for a little while.

Before our blog was even a year old, we reached one million site views, so we celebrated by giving away some of those rare and coveted “Monster Carnival leaks.” These were the early days of Poptropica glitching and trading!

That summer, the Poptropica community grew to include a Poptropica Help Forum (the PHF was created by Coderkid, who later became PHB staff) and Poptropica Help Chat (PHC) (which was hosted on Xat). Both brought good times, but only the PHC remains to this day, and we’re on Discord now.

We also began a monthly Poptropica magazine, and PHB readers voted on the name The Poptropican’s 911, for all your Poptropica emergencies. The first issue was published in June, and the series ran for a year. Also in June, the long-awaited Astro-Knights Island was released!

Comic by Green Seal, who later became a PHB staff blogger.

Another big thing that happened in Poptropica in 2009 was the launch of the store. (Can you even imagine a Poptropica without the store??) A hundred credits were given for each island completed, and players happily bought cool new items like the Colorizer, Electrify, and more. Credits could also be bought with real money. The store looked a little different back then, too.

On July 26, the PHBย celebrated its first birthdayย โ€“ and by then had reached 1.5 million site views. Aย few days later, theย Multiverse featureย was released, and that became the staple way of partying it up on Poptropica. (Too bad it’s no longer around… but we do still have common rooms and clubhouses.)

To wrap up the year,ย Counterfeit Islandย finally came out (in its early access period, and after half a year of waiting!) inย late December, bringing the map total up to ten islands. (Counterfeit and Astro-Knights were the only islands with early access tickets.)

Before membership, players could buy an early access ticket to a new island for 500 credits in the store.

That concludes the 2009 page of the Poptropica Yearbook! Stay tuned for the next pages, and soon youโ€™ll be able to view the complete series on a new page in our Pop Plus collection, titled The Poptropica Yearbook.

PHB Parties

Recap: PHB’s Thanksgiving Party 2016!

thanksgiving-party-phb

Hello, everyone! What are you thankful for?

Yesterday, the PHB announced the 2016 Thanksgiving Party to give thanks to the amazing Poptropica community (whether you celebrate Turkey Day or not)! Despite the short notice, we’re thankful that a number of Poptropicans were able to attend! Check out the recap collage above – and thanks to Pea Sea (Purple Claw) for helping out with pictures!

The party took place in a few Multiverse rooms on Poptropica as well as the Poptropica Help Chat on Discord. It began at 3 pm EST (although some eager Poptropicans rallied up a few multiverse rooms a little earlier) and went on til about 5 pm EST. Within the duration of the party, we enjoyed a plethora of lagging in Multiverse rooms with the activation of store items like sneezing powder, popgum, fart guns and fireworks. Some rooms even crashed from all the activity!

A few PHB authors also made an appearance, and we enjoyed chatting, battling and seeing many of you come out and make this party another success! It was also nice to see a few festive Poptropicans dressed in foodie and autumnal attire as well. If you weren’t able to make it, that’s okay! The PHC is always open, so feel free to stop by anytime and make a few new friends: it’d be a pleasure to have you!

Thank you for continuing to show your support and thanks for coming out! Hope to see you next time, and happy feasting!

Happy Thanksgiving! ๐Ÿฆƒ

PHB Parties

Recap: PHB’s gr8 8th birthday party for Poptropica!

Hey gr8 Poptropican m8s, check out this upd8! w8 for it…

As you may know, Poptropica has been celebratingย their 8th birthday these past two weeks, and to join in the 8-bit festivities, this past Saturday the PHB invited all Poptropicans to join in for a party on the PHC and Poptropica!ย Thanks to all those who came; we hope you’d r8ย it 8/8!

8thbday recap

Don’t all those balloons look so orn8? With birthday balloons of variousย colors (and similar-looking musical trees) filling up the several Multiverse rooms we had going on, plusย fireworks being set off as players competed in games and got turned into pixel pigs, the party rooms were definitely very lively (and laggy, because Poptropica can’t handle our partying ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

Over on the PHCย (the PHB’s official Poptropica Help Chat), Poptropicans enjoyedย chattingย with each other, got to meet a few PHB authors (UiPE, BT, Sam, Slip, and yours truly were there!), and even had some fun on the Doodle feature with Poptropica artists like MasterPinpey!

The party went on for a few hours, and it was great to see many of you there! For those who couldn’t come, as well asย those who had a fun time, remember the PHC is always open โ€“ย not just during PHB parties โ€“ and we welcome you there to hang out with other Poptropicans anytime! You can access it via xat.com/thePHC or by clicking “Chat” in the navigation bar at the top of the PHB’s site.

Thanks to those of you who came, even those who were fashionably l8, and made this event gr8! Even if you couldn’t make it, it’s okay, we don’t h8. Be sure to check out this PHB post for everything about Poptropica’s 8-bit celebr8ion this month!

Happy 8th birthday, Poptropica! โค

Here’s to many more years!

Store

Multiverse free for all!

One of the most popular and expensive gold cards in the Poptropica Store is now free! That’s right. Remember the good old Multiverse that came out a couple years back? You could create a room if you had it, then by clicking on the friends icon and entering that room code, you can get into your friend’s room. A cool way for a private game server in Poptropica.

Well, now this baby is going free. Yep, it once cost 350 credits, a price higher than any other gold card. But now? Now the creators have finally made this feature free for all. No longer will you have to ask someone “who here can make a room?” because guess what, anyone can! You can now get this sweet feature for free!

The creators also mentioned and posted a video of their first Multiverse Party since they liked it so much. Here’s the video. It shows the creators using the Flower Power item from the Poptropica Store when it was first released:

A short yet awesome video.

EP out!
