Fairy Tale Island turning from fable to reality ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™‚๏ธ P.S. farewell Flash, hello Haxe ๐Ÿ‘‹

Hey Poptropicans! The long-awaited announcement for the Design Your Dream Island Contest winner is here โ€” but apparently, it’s only just the beginning. ๐Ÿโœจ

Dropping in late Monday night (around 8 p.m. Eastern time), the Creators’ Blog finally posted a winner whose idea will turn from fable to reality in Poptropica: Fairy Tale Island by Perfect Crab! But wait, there’s more: blown away by the hundreds of entries they received in the past couple of months, the Poptropica Creators will be announcing multiple winners for this contest. Stay tuned as we await further news this week!

Transported by the magic of the movies.

Meanwhile, Perfect Crab’s idea is sounding like the perfectly twisted fairy tale. Here’s what the Creators had to share about it:

The plot:ย On an island ruled by fairy tales, something has gone awry. The fairy tales are getting mixed up and no one is getting their happily ever after.ย

We loved this entry because it had a full storyline, a great set of characters, and intrigue! It also touches on a bunch of classic tales that are rich in storytelling.

Poptropica Creators’ Blog

Congrats to Perfect Crab for this crowning moment, which comes with a one-year membership prize! And, although it’ll probably be a while before the island gets made, we can’t wait to play Fairy Tale Island.

(If you’re reading this, Perfect Crab, we’d love to share more about your island idea here on the PHB. And for everyone else who isn’t Perfect Crab, we’d be happy to share yours too โ€” just contact us!)

Whether you have stakes in the game as a contest participant or just want to hear about other people’s island ideas, you can join us over on our Discord server, the PHC, as we eagerly anticipate the rest of the results of the Dream Island contest. May the greatest islands win โ€” and may we all win when Poptropica pulls up with new adventuresome islands, like Fairy Tale Island, in 2021!

In other news, December 28 was also a big day in Poptropica for one other reason: it was the official end of the Flash era of Poptropica, with all Flash accounts scheduled to smoothly transition over to the gameโ€™s Haxe build, which has steadily been updating since February of this year.

So if youโ€™ve been playing on Flash, you may log in to see some changes โ€” most notably, the fewer islands on the map โ€” but rest assured, most of your stuff (from items to islands completed) has made it over to Haxe. Scrolling through my items, I found many classics from the Flash days that haven’t formally been introduced to Haxe until now, like the 8th birthday balloon and even the infamous Fart Gun.

Some players have reported still being able to access the game on Flash via the unofficial Format Loader tool. But with the plug being pulled on Flash any day now, thatโ€™s probably not going to last for long โ€” so be ready for the inevitable migration. We know, it’s sad to say goodbye, but at least the presence of Early Poptropica on the map (i.e. all the classic islands for members) might assure us that Poptropica is keeping their promise of making the old islands accessible after 2020.

There are some new store items in Haxe, too. Well, more like one item recolored a few times and being passed off as differentโ€”take a look at the jackets of the Boss Babe, Neon Rockstar, and Pretty Tough costumes. New hair, same styles. The other items in the store are similar to last week’s selection, though some costumes were switched out.

Catch you all soon in the next update โ€” we’ll be waiting for the other winners of the Dream Island contest. ๐Ÿคž What a way to end the year!

So much has happened in the past 365 days… and we’ve got a lot of it on the record. Tune into the PHB on New Year’s Eve for a look back on 2020 in our upcoming annual Rewind! ๐Ÿฅณ

Keep on poppin’ on,

Contests

Design Your Dream Island contest is back! ๐Ÿ

Hey Poptropicansโ€”contest alert! ๐Ÿšจ From now until December 18 at 11:59 p.m. PST, you can submit your own original Poptropica island idea for a chance to have it made into game reality!

The next Poptropica island could be from your imagination.

Some of you might remember that Poptropica hosted this contest back in 2013. The winning idea added to the game? Arabian Nights Island. ๐Ÿซ

Fans have been hoping for another chance at the contest ever since the massive success of the first one. More recently, the question was put forth in the PHB’s Q&A with Poptropica’s CEO, who answered, “How about after this interview gets posted we start the contest?” And true to their word, here it comes now!

๐Ÿ“ The Pop Creators have put together a brand new submission form (poptropica.com/submissions) which allows anyone to share their island ideas โ€” as well as fan art and letters outside of the contest’s purposes! The form is simple: you enter your username, write a message, add an optional attachment (which can be a jpg, png, gif, or pdf file), click a checkbox captcha, and with the press of the submit button, your submission is sent to Poptropica.

Share your island idea on Poptropica’s new submission form.

Fortunately, there are no geographical or age restrictions like the previous Dream Island contest, but children under 13 do need a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. Your island idea should only be entered once.

As the Creators shared on the official blog, they’re looking for the following in a successful island idea: an original and exciting story, key characters, and setting (don’t copy from other brands or people!). Not only will the winning idea become a real Poptropica island, its inventor will also win a one-year Poptropica membership!

โ›…๏ธ For some inspiration to get your creative wheels spinning, you can take a look back at some of the most successful entries from the 2013 Dream Island contest. In addition to the winning Arabian Nights Island, the Pop Creators named these as their top ten runners-up last time: Bikers vs Boards Island, Fashion Crisis Island, Golden Mustache Island, House of Cards Island (with in-depth look from its inventor), Pharoahโ€™s Fantasies Island, Prehistoric Island, Shakespeare Island, Space Bar Island, Stormchaser Island, and Symphony Island. (Plus, check out one former PHB staffer’s personal opinion reviews for each of those ideas!)

What ideas do you have for a Poptropica island? Start dreaming, maybe bounce some ideas with our PHC Discord community, and remember to submit your idea before the December 18 deadline!

And stay tuned โ€” the winner will be announced December 28. Whatever it is, we’re excited to see, and eventually play, another fan-invented island! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ

Here come the spookiest costumes of the PHB’s 12th Halloween contest! ๐ŸŽƒ

Happy Halloween, Poptropicans! ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿญ Spooky season is drawing to a close, and it’s time for us to unveil the winners of this year’s 12th Annual Poptropica Help Blog Halloween Costume Contest.

We had two themes going this year, Heroes and Villains, as well as a bonus invitation for group costumes. Below, we’ll be sharing our top 5 picks from each of the two themes, with one grand prize winner for each category selected to win a Poptropica membership from the PHB!

๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ Top 5 Heroes ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Our grand prize winner for the Heroes category is: “Earthbug” by Purple Paw! What a fine assemblage of forestry elements! ๐ŸŒณ In addition to being featured here, the top 5 costumes for both categories will also be immortalized on our Costumes page. And now for the wicked…

๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™€๏ธ Top 5 Villains ๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™‚๏ธ

There wouldn’t be heroes without villains, and so, of course, we had to open up the floor for some spectacularly crooked costumes as well! Among the great many stupendous scoundrel suit-ups of this season, we’re choosing to bestow the honor of the grand prize to Golden Tornado for a villain with mesmerizing biotechnology. Congrats!

๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ Group Costume ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ

Though we didn’t get many group costume entries, quite a few of you made a whole series of costumes on your own, which was also pretty impressive! For this year’s bonus challenge of spookiest group costume, though, the prize goes to… the Dimension Bros!

The Dimension Bros dressed up as “Evil Condiments,” with Theo as a crafty (or dare we say Kraft-y) Ketchup and Isaac as a melancholic Mustard. But since the bros already have (very long) memberships going, we’ll work out an arrangement with them to award the membership prizes to other accountsโ€”with relish!

โš”๏ธ Honorable Mentions โš”๏ธ

There were so many amazing entries, we just couldn’t fit them all above! So, to give you all a bigger taste of the many creative Halloween ‘fits from the community, here’s a selection of honorable mentions:

Like we mentioned earlier, some of you really ran with the zero limit on costume entries and created whole casts of impressive characters. Check out this seriously cool series of costumes from Drow, with both heroes and villains in the mix!

Whether you put on a costume to share with us or simply observed from the shadows, thanks for joining us in our Halloween festivities! You can browse even more spooktacular suit-ups in the comments of the contest post… but hurry, before they change their costumes.

๐ŸŽƒ Happy Halloween, and don’t go too hard on the candy! ๐ŸŽƒ

Not gone in a Flash: bring on the bevy of blimps, Beevs, and berries ๐Ÿซ

Hey Poptropicans! We’ve got a bunch going on in the Poptropica fandom this week: news of what’s to come beyond Flash, Instagram story highlights, and contests past, present, and future. Let’s pop right in!

In the comments of their latest Instagram post about the Zomberry Hero special event, the Poptropica Creators confirmed a couple of salient details: 1) that “nothing will get lost” regarding the old islands currently on Flash, and 2) old (Flash) accounts will be transferable to Haxe, with more details coming “towards the end of the year.”

That’s certainly something to look forward to! In the meantime, if you’re not yet caught up on Poptropica’s preparations for the end of Flash by the end of 2020, check out the following PHB articles:

And if you have more questions, shoot them at Poptropica’s CEO here โ€” we’ll be sending some of your questions for the Poptropica team to answer in an upcoming Q&A here on the PHB!

That’s not all that’s new on Poptropica’s Instagram. On their profile, the Creators added two new story highlights, Fan Art and Zomberry, so you can view some of their past stories even after the initial 24 hours.

Check out the fan art they shared this week, including a few from PHB staffers Gentle Dolphin and Lucky Joker, and several blimps!

Speaking of Poptropica fan art on Instagram, remember all the fantastic features of Dr. Beev creations? The Poptropica Creators posted several more on the official blog, and announced that they decided to “give a bunch of artists 10,000 credits”!

Gentle Dolphin was among those whose Dr. Beev art was featured, and she confirmed that the Creators sent a DM on Instagram to ask artists to send their usernames in order to receive the 10,000 credits prize.

And there’s more from the Creators’ Blog post:

Also, if you’re under 13 and not on the gram, we’ve got you covered. We’re working on an all-new submission system so everyone can participate!

Poptropica Creators’ Blog, “Paging Dr. Beev”

Sounds like we can look forward to more contests in the future that aren’t limited to Instagram, so people of all ages can participate!

On the subject of contests, the Creators have unveiled the first 30 winners of the Zomberry Hero event who beat the game without restarting. They’ve each won a free one-month Poptropica membership! For tips on the game, check out our Zomberry Hero Guide.

There are still more chances to win a free Poptropica membership! Enter our Halloween Costume Contest as a hero, villain, and/or with a group costume โ€” there are just two weeks until the deadline, and already plenty of entries you can browse through for inspiration! ๐ŸŽƒ

We’re also loving all the Poptober art you all have been sharing on the PHC, our Discord server. If you’re not already on, join the server to meet other Poptropicans, discuss Poptropica, and more! See you there. ๐Ÿ˜„

The PHB’s 12th Halloween Costume Contest: ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ Heroes & Villains ๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This contest is now closed. See our Hallo-winners here!

The Poptropica Help Blog presents

Halloween Costume Contest Twelve:
๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ Heroes & Villains ๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Now in our 12th year of this tradition, we’re once again thrilled to announce our annual Poptropica Halloween costume contest. This year’s theme: Heroes & Villains. Which side will you choose?

Whether you’re inventing your own characters or emulating icons from pop culture, we invite you to get your creativity flowing by assembling a Poptropica costume (or two, or several) based on either (or both!) of these themes. And one more specialty for this year…

๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ Group costumes are encouraged! Get some friends together (or make some new ones on the PHC or in the comments section of this post) and plan your costumes as a group. All it takes is two or more.

As an example, the PHB team decided to band together this year to form the Colors of the Rainbow! ๐ŸŒˆ In keeping with the theme, we’ve split into the Warm Warriors (heroes) and Cool Criminals (villains)โ€”but that’s optional for group costumes. They just have to be related.

๐Ÿ“ Hereโ€™s what you need to know about entering:

  1. ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Assemble your costume for either (or both) categories on Poptropica, including for group costumes. You may enter each category (heroes, villains, group) as many times as you like. You may concurrently submit an entry for both the hero/villain categories and a group costume (which may be considered its own category of sorts). However, each individual person is eligible to win just once per category.
  2. ๐Ÿ“ธ Take a screenshot of your costume entry in the Costumizer window.* Hereโ€™s how to take a screenshot โ€” the instructions will vary depending on your device. For Windows, youโ€™ll also need to paste it somewhere to save it as an image file on your computer. Also, use the in-game Costumizer window (pictured below) as that will display your character at a high resolution. Ideally, crop the image to show just your character.
  3. ๐Ÿ”— Upload the image to the web and share the link in the comments of this post. You can use a site like imgur or Discord to upload your picture and obtain a web link for it that can then be shared so others can see it. Once youโ€™ve got a link, comment on this PHB post youโ€™re reading right now with the link. Include details such as what category youโ€™re entering, what youโ€™re naming your costume, and anything else youโ€™d like to share about it.

*Note: Though weโ€™ve used Avatar Studio (AS) links in the past, many of the newer items in Poptropica are not visible through AS. If your entire costume is still viewable by AS, youโ€™re welcome to provide a username (not link, as those don’t work with AS anymore) in lieu of a picture. However, since AS is no longer a complete guarantee for displaying costumes, we recommend taking a screenshot.

Share a screenshot of your costume in the Costumizer window, like so. You can access this screen from the green shirt button in the menu if you’re in Flash, or from costumizing one of your clothing items in Haxe.

๐Ÿ“ Things to Note โœจ

  • ๐Ÿ’ป If you send us aย username for us to look up on the Avatar Studio, youโ€™ll have to keep your costume intact until Halloween so we can see it throughout the month. Thatโ€™s something you wonโ€™t have to concern yourself with if youย send a screenshot instead, and itโ€™ll be easier for you to capture multiple costume entries!
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ Group costume rules: Group costumes are encouraged to match the heroes & villains theme, but this is not required. An individual entry within a group costume entry may also qualify for the singular-costume hero/villain categories, but we will take care to honor group efforts by prioritizing awards for this category before others, as each individual person may only win once per category.
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Tips for seeking out costume parts:ย We know Poptropica has changed a lot in the past couple years, making lots of old methods obsolete, but there are still places you can go for cool costume parts. The Flash version of Pop has more options, but Haxe has plenty of store costumes too. Dig through old store items, buy new store costumes, crank the switch in the New You shop on Home Island, snag something off an NPC fromย PoptropiCon, sneak your way into old islands with idk’s directory, and useย MAPย (for individual parts) or theย ASG Machineย (for full costumes) along with usernames from ourย ASG collection.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Prizes โœจ

  • ๐Ÿ—“ The contest closes on Friday, October 30. Weโ€™ll announce the winners the next day.
  • ๐ŸŽƒ On Halloween (October 31), weโ€™ll post our favorite costumes from each category on the front page of the PHB for all to enjoy.
  • ๐ŸŒŸ A grand prize winner will be selected for each category, plus one group. Each grand prize winner will receive a 1-month Poptropica membership. Up to 6 memberships for the winning group will be awarded, with one month per participant.
  • ๐Ÿ•บ Winning costumes will be immortalized on our Costumes page, but weโ€™ll also have honorable mentions for just the post, not page.

๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ป There are no heroes without villains…
