Creators' Blog Guest Posts, PoptropiCon Island

PoptropiCon 2 this week, and Steam speak

Hey Poptropicans, we’re gathering steam on some Pop drops! ๐Ÿ’จ

The doors to PoptropiCon, Episode 2: Spoiler Alert will be opening to all this Wed, June 15. ๐Ÿšจ Get ready for cosplays, card games, and chaos!

It’s been over four months since this installment re-released on Haxe for members, and restless players have been petitioning for the paywall to come down ever since. It’s great to see the episode open back up for everyone, and hopefully this indicates more re-openings for other locked segments of episodic islands as well. Time will tell!

By the way, enjoy the PoptropiCon poster above? We’ve been working hard to include images of old island extras in our Island Guides, particularly as links have broken from Pop’s website in recent years. Check out our various guides for desktop wallpapers and more! ๐Ÿ–ผ

In other news, guest writer Invisible Ring has returned to the Pop Creators’ Blog with commentary on the recent Steam release. She observes how the discontent around the game’s pricing reminds her of her fan movie Battle Morale and how the growth of Pop’s mobile app over the years could indicate more classics might also appear on Steam.

Alongside her usual optimism, however, she also calls out the Creators for not having brought back Monkey Wrench yet (a promise they made over a year ago) and seeming potentially “desperate” for not making the Steam bundle free โ€” though she ties that into her hopes for more islands on the Steam game, which she has not purchased.

If you’re wondering whether the bundle is worth it, check out our review of Poptropica on Steam! And with that, see you in the next one. โœŒ๏ธ

My Place in Poptropica: Dizzy Feather

This is a guest post from Dizzy Feather sharing her My Place in Poptropica story, which is all about oneโ€™s Poptropica journey.ย Enjoy!

Hello everyone! It’s me, Dizzy Feather, the Poptropican who is posting way too many comments on here. Anyway, I decided to write a “My Place in Poptropica” story.

2014 | Finding the game

In my school’s computer lab, I had finished my work, and the teacher let those who finished play games. At the time I loved Coolmath Games, so of course I went to that site. But this one girl next to me was playing a game I had never seen before. I asked her what she was playing, and she told me: “Poptropica.” It looked amazing, so I set up my first account.

When I got into the game, I had zero clue what I was supposed to do. I thought it was a game where you visit islands, look around, buy some stuff to make costumes, and decorate your clubhouse. I stayed on it for a few months until I forgot my username. Instead of setting up a new account, I went back to Coolmath Games.

Treeline: What wood you do?

2016 | Poptropica on tablet

A couple years later, I was thinking about all the computer games I used to play and googling them to see if they were still there. Poptropica came up, and I saw it was still going strong. I remembered how much fun I had on it, and downloaded the app on my tablet. I then found out, you were supposed to do something on the islands, can you believe it? Why I didn’t know that at first, I have no idea.

I couldn’t figure out the first few episodes of Survival, so I went to the fourth one โ€” for some reason I thought it would be easier. When my character got locked in the guest bedroom, I thought I was supposed to wait in there till the hunt began, so I waited and waited. It wasn’t until I got the bear claw that I figured out I was supposed to get out of the room. I decided that I should talk to the cook, and after more than a dozen times of being sent back to the room, I got the idea that I didn’t want the cook to see me.

Hail to the Chef: Cleaver? I hardly know her!

Anyway, I got bored on that island, so I went to Shrink Ray. I just walked around the house as a shrunken character. Then Monkey Wrench came out, and I finally got my first medallion. Right after I did, my tablet broke. By the time I got a new one, I forgot about Poptropica yet again.

2022 | Rediscovering a different Poptropica

A few months ago, I was playing Coolmath Games when I saw an advertisement for Poptropica. I remembered playing it and decided to try it again. I made another account, but this time I realized most of the islands were gone. So I googled why that was, and found out Poptropica ran on Flash, which had been shut down.

Make Your Mark: Despoiling nature, one vainglorious act of vandalism at a time.

I looked at my player name and I didn’t like it, so I changed it. I scrolled through the names and found a super cute one: “Dizzy Feather.” A few months later, I found the Pop Creators’ Blog. Reading through all the guest posts, I wanted to write of my own. I sent messages to Poptropica about guest writing, and recently they asked me to send in my first post!

But it took some time for that email to come in, and during that time I was looking at fanfictions and started writing my first one, The Pink Knight. One of the fanfictions I found was The Villain Saga, here on the PHB. I looked at the site and soon found the comments section โ€” now I can’t stop using it.

In Tree, Intrigue: The lone pine returns.

I soon found their Write for the PHB page and decided to send in my fanfiction before I forgot I wrote it. Soon after it was published on the PHB, I joined the PHB’s Discord server as M.

And that’s My Place in Poptropica! See you next time.

Hope you enjoyed this โ€œMy Place in Poptropicaโ€ story! If you did, youโ€™ll probably enjoy our other MPIP stories here on the PHB.

If you havenโ€™t already shared your story, weย invite you toย send in your own. Interested in writing for the PHB under a different Pop-topic? Take a look at ourย Write for the PHB pageย for ideas, guidelines, and more!

Lightyear of Looks for the Books ๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ‘€

Hey Poptropicans, have a look at the latest looks!

It must be Poptropica Fashion Week, as guest writer Pink Crush returns to the Pop Creators’ Blog with a second part to her Poptropashion fashion forward series. In case you missed it, check out part one here!

We’re so awed by this self-proclaimed Poptropica fashion advisor’s collection we’re even featuring it in our Pop Look Book. โœจ

As Pink Crush shares, the “Royal Princess” costume could be “glam enough for theย PHB’s Poppies!” ๐Ÿ† Speaking of which, our annual awards show is coming up next month, so stay tuned and get ready to vote!

We also appreciate the shout-out to the PHB at the end, where she notes that we’re “named the official Poptropica Fansite.” It’s trueโ€”in some ways! We’re not the only fans Poptropica awarded the Official VIP badge to back in 2017, but we’re one of the few still active in the fandom today.

In other news, here are the latest fan art features from Pop’s Instagram stories! Among them, we’ve got to plug our own Stranger Things Pop-over, which we brought back to celebrate the release of season 4. ๐Ÿ‘ป

As the last story shares, there’s something new on Home Island! Watch the video trailer for Lightyear, the upcoming Pixar film about Buzz Lightyear, to earn some free credits. Plus, you might still be able to find the Rainbow High ad game in other spots to snag more prizes. Enjoy! โšก๏ธ

Fanfic: The Pink Knight, Part 1/4 ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿชถ

Hey Poptropicans, this is aย guest postย by Dizzy Feather.ย Enjoy!

Hello everyone, I’m Dizzy Feather. Before we get started, I’ll tell you a little about myself. I am ever loyal to the Pathfinders, but if I had to choose another tribe it would be the Seraphim.

Anyway, my fanfictionย has four parts. It stars me as my alter ego, the Pink Knight. Plus, find out how you can be part of it below. Let’s go!

The scene is black. A sad melody plays. We hear a female voice.

DIZZY FEATHER (VOICEOVER):
Once I was a hero.

As she speaks, we see black silhouettes surrounding the Pink Knight in pictures of swordfights and handcuffs.

DIZZY FEATHER (VO):
I defeated countless villains, but one dayโ€ฆ

Bird’s-eye view of the Pink Knight’s uniform and sword piled in a chest. Fade to black. We hear the chest lid slam, followed by the rattle of a lock.

DIZZY FEATHER (VO):
I decided to put it all away after I failed my mission. Poptropica has dozens of adventurers โ€” they’ll manage without one more hero.

A phone rings. We see DIZZY FEATHER walk over to a small wooden table to pick up the phone and place it to her ear.

AMELIA (VO):
Dizzy, listen, can you come over to my shop real quick? I mean, above my shop โ€” you know where I live.

DIZZY FEATHER:
Uh, sure. Are you OK?

AMELIA (VO):
No time to talk, just come over here. Now!

DIZZY FEATHER hangs up and runs out her clubhouse door. AMELIA is calmly sipping tea in her home. DIZZY FEATHER runs into the room, slamming the door behind her.

AMELIA:
Oh hi there, would you like some tea?

DIZZY FEATHER:
Wait, what? You sounded like you were being robbed over the phone!

AMELIA:
Oh yeah, sorry about that. I had to get you to come over here quickly โ€” you know how you like to take your time. Anyway, here you go.

AMELIA hands DIZZY FEATHER an orange ticket. As DIZZY FEATHER takes it, we see that it says: “PoptropiCon โ€” Admit One โ€” VIP Pass.”

DIZZY FEATHER:
Uh, are you going to the con? Have fun!

AMELIA:
No, you’re going to the Con. You see, after the Omegon incident last year, I bought a VIP ticket for the following year so I could send someone to help in case it happened again. I would go myself, but I got a store to run.

DIZZY FEATHER:
You could go, and I could run your store until you’re back.

AMELIA:
Sorry, I only trust myself to run my store, and it can’t be closed for an entire week.

DIZZY FEATHER:
Fine, I mean Omegon was defeated last year, what could happen?

Jump to DIZZY FEATHER with a bulging pink backpack, walking around the Poptropica convention. Suddenly, a large red spaceship lands in the back, where the catapult was in episode 1). DIZZY FEATHER drops her drink out of surprise.

DIZZY FEATHER (whispering):
Oh, no! It’s happening.

Flingers: Travel with flair.

That’s it for the first part. In the upcoming parts, I would like to include some of you readers! If you want to be part of this story, just pop in a quick outline in the comments with:

  • who you want you Poptropican to be (villain, hero, anti-villain, etc)
  • your Poptropican’s name
  • your Poptropica username (so I can add you to my friends list)

I will choose two players from the comments of this post and then we can meet up in-game!

  1. I’ll wait till you’re in the game, then invite you to my clubhouse.
  2. Get ready for a screenshot! Just follow me around, then stand a little ways away from me, facing me, so I can take the pic.
  3. I will not contact you, so what your Poptropican says and does in my story is completely up to me.

Hope you like the story so far! Feel free to share what you think will happen next. I look forward to hearing from you in the comments!

Hope you enjoyed thisย guest postย by Dizzy Feather. If you did, you might also enjoy The Villain Saga, a fanfic series from the PHB’s MaryannTheConqueror.
