The Islands of 2015 – Ranked 10 Years Later 2๏ธโƒฃ0๏ธโƒฃ1๏ธโƒฃ5๏ธโƒฃ

Howdy Poptopicanos! ๐ŸคŸ This is LJ, and today I’ll be ranking the islands from 2015, a decade after they were released. There were only 4 islands that came out this year that I’ll be including in this ranking: Galactic Hot Dogs, Mystery of the Map, Timmy Failure, and Escape from Pelican Rock. Let’s see how they place!

(Please note, the final episodes of PoptropiCon & Arabian Nights were released in 2015 as well, but those islands were included in the 2014 ranking. Also, these are not full reviews of the islands; therefore, each analysis will be brief.)

#4: Galactic Hot Dogs Island ๐ŸŒญ

(released: January 30 for members & February 19 for all)

I’ll be honest, Galactic Hot Dogs Island never interested me at the time of its release and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the urge to ever replay it. I do like the character designs and the colors are visually appealing to meโ€”the overall art style might even be better than the next island on this list. Still, that’s just not enough for me to rank this one any higher. Sorry Galactic Hot Dogs!

#3: Timmy Failure Island ๐Ÿปโ€โ„๏ธ

(released: September 17 for members & October 6 for all)

Just like Galactic Hot Dogs Island, this one also didnโ€™t grab my interest. I struggle to recall much about this island, aside from Timmy Failure’s pet polar bear, Total, who totally stole the show for being a whole mood. Total seems more likable than any of the characters from Galactic Hot Dogs, so because of that alone, Timmy Failure Island sits in third place. (Oh, and the mini-game where you have to dodge the trash from the garbage truck is one other thing I remember. That was pretty fun.)

#2: Mystery of the Map Island ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

(released: May 21 for members & June 11 for all)

Iโ€™ll be upfront and say that I have a positive bias towards this island. Why? Iโ€™m not entirely sure, maybe itโ€™s just the good vibes it gives off. The soundtrack definitely hits home for me as I remember playing this island over 10 times when I was younger.

Now, if you’ve read the first book in the Poptropica graphic novel series that this island is based on, you’ll see just how dull this island feels in comparison. It really doesn’t have much in terms of character or story development (which is a common theme for this year in general). Still, it’s not the worst island we’ve seen in Poptropica and it’s definitely an improvement over the last two islands on this list. Iโ€™ll admit again that Iโ€™m biased, though. I really like the characters Oliver, Mya, and Jorge for who they are beyond just this island.

#1: Escape from Pelican Rock Island ๐ŸŒ‰

(released: December 10 for members & December 30 for all)

Escape from Pelican Rock, in my opinion, was the last truly great island that Poptropica came out with. To me, itโ€™s even better than some of the islands that were released in what we all think of as Poptropica’s prime time. EFPR has a colorful array of characters and an engaging storyline centered around a jailbreak and clearing your name.

Although spending each day in the prison could feel a bit monotonous, I appreciate that there was always something slightly different happening every day. The island was challenging, but not to the extent that it caused a complete meltdown from stressโ€”just good fun. And let’s not forget that the PHB got a shoutout in the form of an easter egg! How awesome is that?

Unfortunately, 2015 was sort of the beginning of the end of Poptropica, so this wasn’t really a difficult ranking to make. Escape from Pelican Rock Island is the standout that’s really carrying this year, MotM is just kinda there, and the other two aren’t really for me.

Have you played any of these islands? Which one did you like the most and which one did you like the least? I’m especially curious to see the comparisons between Galactic Hot Dogs and Timmy Failure. Which one is better/worse for you, and why? Share your opinions in the comments down below. ๐Ÿ‘‡ Also, check out my other rankings of the Poptropica Islands if youโ€™re interested: 20082009, 20102013, & 2014 Thanks for reading, everybody…pop on and have a Happy New Year!๐Ÿ€

Folklore figures: wear ’em, draw ’em, join ’em

Hey, Poptropicans! We hope you’ve recovered from the flash of shock we gave earlier this month and are ready to dive into what else April has in store.

The April member gifts promise a blast to the past with three costumes based on some famous historical figures: Cleopatra, Sire Lancelot, and Pocahontas.

Speaking of the last costume, it looks oddly familiar. The Pocahontas costume bears a striking resemblance to Sacagawea in Time Tangled Island.

And what’s more, she’s fully customizable, even for non-members! So even if you’re not a member this month, you can get at least one of the member gifts. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just head on over to 1805 A.D. (the Lewis and Clark expedition) on Time Tangled Island, and you’ve got your two-for-one Native American look.

(Creators, next time maybe don’t imply that distinct iconic characters of shared ancestry, yet different time periods, are interchangeable by their appearance?)

On Instagram, Poptropica challenged artists to draw Ned Noodlehead in their style and to share the drawings with the hashtag #NedNoodlehead. Interesting that they chose Ned, the comic shop kid from Super Power Islandโ€”one of the old school islands that have disappeared from the map.

Within a day, creative fans got to work, and Poptropica featured some of the Ned Noodlehead art on their Instagram story. Check out these magnificent Noodlehead doodles! Think you could give it a try, too?

Recently, Poptropica has been promoting Timmy Failure Island on various channelsโ€”social media, the Creators’ Blog, and even the Home Island billboard. (Did you know that Timmy Failure has its own Disney+ movie now?)

But something odd has happened: Timmy Failure Island, which was formerly free for all, is now only available to members. Unlike with previously member-locked islands, this time non-members won’t even get to play a demo before hitting the paywall message. (Thanks for the tip, Perfect Fish.)

Strangely, the message refers to “early access” for Timmy Failure Island being for members only, even though the island came out in 2015. Did they just forget to change the wording, or are they working on revamping Timmy Failure for the Javascript (post-Flash) project and letting members beta test it first? Whatever the case, let’s hope it isn’t a failure.

Thoughts on this month’s member gifts and the fate of Timmy Failure Island? Want to share a Noodlehead doodle with us? Drop them in the comments!

Final Theory

Before diving into our theory on how the quest will play out, we first need to know our characters… Timmy Failure is a young child that believes that he is a world class detective. He has a pet “businessย partner” polar bear named Total that somehow followed the scent of Timmy’s cat food back to his apartment. His parents are divorced, and he lives with his mom, who dates a “Bowling Turkey”. His best friend,ย who he claims to be an idiot, is named Rollo Tookus and is actually an over achieving student. Molly Moskins is a girl in Timmy’s class who has a crush on him and smells of tangerines. She also owns a cat named Senior Burrito. Finally, Corrina Corrina is Timmy’sย arch nemesisย (at least in his opinion).

Looking at the dialog, Senior Burrito (the cat) has stolen Timmy’s pants and is hiding in a vending machine. To get them out, you’ll need some loose change to activate the machine. The Bowling Turkey challenges you to a match of bowling, and when you win, he’ll give you the keys to his car. From there, weย couldn’t really follow much more of the plot using the dialogue, but it looks to be quite a lengthy island.

Remember, Timmy Failure Island is going to be out for members on September 17th, so until then, share your theories in the comments below! ๐Ÿ˜€

Daily Pop Sneak Peeks, New Islands, Sneak Peeks, Timmy Failure Island

Timmy Failure Island is coming this September!

Hey guys, BT here to try and bring in some good news after the downer of theย 7 sponsored members-only islandsย news.

Timmy Failure Island is officially announced, in, I shall say, in a unique way. Instead of the standard YouTube trailer, we’re given a short gif revealing an approximate release month for the island: September 2015.

There is an emphasis on the fact that this island is going to be inย full color, similar to how Wimpy Boardwalk was advertised to be (as opposed to Wimpy Wonderland). Captain Crawfish also notes to keep an eye out for more “news, giveaways, and other great stuff” on the Creators’ Blog. I’m particularly curious about the giveaway part.

Although I have never personally read the series, I’m still semi-curious.ย HPuterpop told me it was about a kid who solves mysteries. I can see that working in a Poptropican environment. Can’t judge a book by its cover, so I’m willing to give this island a chance.

While we wait till September, please enjoyย what I assume to be the productย aย bored Creator who must’veย been playing Silent Hill lately. And then decided to showย a Poptropican version ofย aย gore-freeย Pyramid Headย off on the Daily Pop because why not.
