We’ve jotted down the more popular nominations for each category, and are now once more handing the baton off to all of you. It’s time to vote!
Each vote will help determine the winner of the 2020 Poppies, so vote wisely and promptly! Voting ends Wednesday, July 22, and we’ll be announcing the winners at our awards party that weekend.
Save the date for Saturday evening, July 25 when we’ll be announcing the winners on our PHC Discord server and celebrating the PHB’s birthday in Poptropica common rooms. We’ll post more about the party later, but in the meantime, get your outfit picked out and harness your inner party animal! After all, it wouldn’t be the Poppies without the loyal Poptropica community.
Hey, Poptropicans! This is Gentle Dolphin bringing the latest Poptropica news.
The Creators have been hard at work moving the game and its many islands to the Haxe platform. There’s been exciting development: Escape from Pelican Rock Island is now playable on Poptropica’s Haxe build!
The island is currently in early access, so only members can play it right now. On the bright side, it’s available to all players on the Flash version of the game. (Thanks to PERCY JACKSON1010 for the tip.)
Looking at the map, the next islands coming to the Haxe build will be Mythology Island, followed by Shrink Ray Island, as we previously reported.
Before you start your prison-break escapades, make sure to stop by Bert’s Basement Gym and check out its common room store with your a-droid-able friend Quippy. If cuteness is a crime, then Quippy is guilty as charged. You’ll find them accompanied by a pelican on their head and dressed in a classic striped prison uniform.
Three of the four items—Prisoner Costume, Pet Bird Follower, and Escapee Dr. Hare—were originally made to promote Escape from Pelican Rock’s release, but the Handcuff Toss is new! Equip it and press the spacebar to throw your handcuffs in the air like you just don’t care.

Common rooms aren’t the only stores receiving updates. The three other in-game stores received some updates as well.
This week’s Poptropica store lineup is mostly the same as last week’s, but a few items were swapped. In costumes, Dangerous Waters and Mech Pilot have been replaced with Clown and Fierce Lion*. Also, the creepy Zombify ability was swapped with the lovely Love Potion* in the pranks section.
The Pet Barn also boasts a lineup of new and old accessories for your precious pets. Our returning items this time around are Sorcerer Hat*, Flower Headband, Black Pointed Bangs, Round Glasses, Hero Mask, Grey Beard, Zomberry Eyes, Yellow Dead Eyes, Cute Blue Eyes*, and Big Brown Eyes*. We also have five new items: Reading Glasses, Green Cloak, Fairy Wings, Bat Wings, and Bandana.
Finally, the clubhouse store has a new array of familiar furniture and wallpapers. This time around, the decor store features 21 items, 12 of which are members-only.
Don’t forget that the Poppies 2020 nomination round ends tonight, so make sure to fill out our survey and let us know who/what you feel deserves to win an award. The Poppies are an annual Poptropica community awards event, hosted by Poptropica fans for Poptropica fans. This will be our sixth year celebrating, and as always, we welcome you to participate in the festivities and tell us where you think the spotlight deserves to shine in all things Poptropica.
First, we begin with the nomination round where you get to nominate your favorite picks for certain award categories. This round starts now and will end next Friday, July 10. It’ll be followed by a voting round, then culminate into a Poptropica party — more details to come! 🎉 But first, the it’s time to make some preliminary picks by nominating…

To keep the nominations a surprise, you’ll be putting your choices in our surveyanonymously. However, you’re welcome to leave a comment in support of your choices. Maybe you’ll convince people to pick your faves, too!
Poptropica Gameplay Awards
🏝 OG Island We’ll Miss Most: We’re saying goodbye to a lot of islands by the end of this year, and there’ve been a ton of good ones over the years. Of all the OG classic islands, which epic adventures will you miss most?
🐶 Best Pet Accessory: Funky eyes? Fancy styles? The pet barn’s store has got all kinds of accessories for your beloved pets to wear. Which of these bling-blings is your favorite thing to complete your pet’s look? Is it the wings, or something else that clings?
🏠 Best Clubhouse Decor: Trampolines or lamps, basic or glitzy… the clubhouse decor store is full of fun home items with which to decorate your player-owned clubhouse. Which of these objects do you consider a must-have for any custom space?
🌳 Best Home Island Makeover: In this past year alone, Poptropica’s gotten pretty inventive when it comes to the appearance of Home Island. We’ve seen summer, (a very long) winter, wizardry, Halloween, fall, and spring. Which of these exterior designs was best? (All are nominated by default.)
🤖 Best Quippy: Common rooms on the Haxe build of Poptropica recently got a little upgrade in the form of an adorable android named Quippy, who sells wares related to the island where the common room is located. There aren’t many Quippys yet, but whether it’s the custom outfit or the items being sold, which of these little guys beats the rest? (All are nominated by default.)
🤩 Best Default Character: Earlier this year, Poptropica redid their home screen so new players could quickly hop into the game by picking any of the new default characters: Wild Fire, Pink Crush, Got Game, Old School, Cool Slice, Girl Power, Fast Ride, and Love Star. Out of this gang, who’s the GOAT? (All are nominated by default.)

🤑 Worst Paywall Offender of the Year: Ah, the paywall of Poptropica membership. For those of us who can’t (or won’t) drop ~US$3.50 a month (and that’s most of us) for the privileges of monthly gifts, extra items, and even extra islands, we love to hate it. But in the past year, where did Poptropica go too far in its declaration of “members only”? Was it the time they locked away the player-designed Lightning Wielder, or perhaps the classic islands? Did they design a member gift you were just so envious of but couldn’t get your hands on? Or maybe a store item that used to be for all, now isn’t? Now’s your chance to make a statement.

Whether it’s YouTube or TikTok, a let’s-play or a deep discussion, let us know which Poptropica vids stood out to you this year (and please share the link!). (Anything published from July 26, 2019 onwards is fair game.)

Hey Poptropicans, it’s Slanted Fish here to unmask some updates on July’s new member gifts, store items, and the return of an island! Let’s get started.
It’s the start of a new month (did the time almost slip past you?), which means a new set of member gifts! And this time, Poptropica has joined the pandemic panic with a set of Fun Face Masks. Summer vibes have also arrived in the form of a Flamingo Floatie and Watermelon Purse.
With the face masks, you get three in one: there’s one patterned with the blue mouth of Medicine Man from Shark Tooth Island, a translucent light blue mask that’s also worn by one of the merchants on Arabian Nights (hey, I thought member gifts were supposed to be original items!), and a green monster-like jaw, which doesn’t seem to have a connection to any island.

Non-members, don’t worry — you can get in on the face mask fun too! There’s a new item in the store called the Friendly Face Masks, which comes in with three variations and costs 250 credits. Interestingly, the item card says “Member Gift” on them, indicating that they were probably intended as such at first before the Creators did us a solid by making these bad boys available for everyone. These come in red, white, and black:
Plenty of other items have popped up in the store as well. The good deals to grab this week for 75 credits each are the Fruity Cutie, Lazy Days* (seriously aesthetic pineapple shirt alert! 🍍), Dangerous Waters, Cool Boy Plush, and Coconut Drink. Also noteworthy: the plush of the character formerly known as Shark Boy is now simply Shark Plush*. Fireworks* have also hit these virtual shelves in time for the Fourth of July! 🧨 Scroll down for the full list of items.

Kicking off our feature set with a bright orange color scheme! Though we usually think of pink when we picture the villainous Dr. Hare, I’m sure the color of carrots is close to his heart as well. But more on the theme of fruit here, this piece really pops! The angled limbs of the character paired with the geometric patterns of the background make for a sharp scene. What a fun yellow color scheme! The poses of these characters, along with their expressions, are very dynamic. That, along with the curved musical notes and bubbly background create a strong sense of movement in the scene. Just looking at it, I almost want to get up and dance! Ooooh, I am in love with this indigo color scheme! The blue/purple tones match the night sky very well, creating a deep and rich atmosphere. Pink color schemes (and Moreau in particular) seem to be a fan favorite this month, but rightly so, looking at the wonderful submissions we received! July: How do I Participate?
Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Pop clubhouses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.
If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is July’s theme? July’s theme is…
Classic Islands
With Flash Player coming to an end, the fate of Poptropica Islands is a bit uncertain these days. Will we ever get to see our favorite classics return to the map, or will we only be able to revisit them in our memories and through backdoor access? Are member the only few that will get to experience these adventures one last time as we transition to Haxe? Either way, perhaps now is a time to celebrate these islands yet again through our artwork and other creative pursuits!
So what islands are considered classics? Well, that’s pretty much any non-sound updated island (included 24 Carrot, despite its renovation). But the further back, the better! Early Poptropica, Time Tangled, Spy, Super Power, and other old-school experiences deserve the spotlight this month, so be sure to share your best work with us!
