Top 5 Picks

Dr. Hare & Binary Bard Cosplay by Sriyani (srvanv)

That’s it, no contest, these guys undoubtedly won Halloween last year. ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿค–๐ŸŽƒ You don’t often see Poptropica costumes IRL, but when you do, they are simply amazing! This iconic duo is easily recognizable and shows off so much personality. From the green glowstick bands on Dr. Hare’s belt to the metallic-grey socks of Binary Bard’s robot legs, there’s wonderful attention to detail and resourcefulness in this cosplay look. Check out more photos of the look here and find their Instagram here.

Dr. Hare & Black Widow Cosplay by Yamcha (gokuostrich)

Once again, these IRL costumes have blown me away. And TikTok has been a great platform lately for showing off that Poptropica cosplay. Makes me want to attend a real-life PoptropiCon and dress up as my Popsona. These looks are instantly recognizable and just seem so fun to wear. But honestly, it’s that little Dr. Hare plush and carrot that really sets this look out from the rest. Don’t talk to me or my son ever again. Find the original videos here and here, and find more on their TikTok here (note that some content may be for ages 13+).

Subnautica Sea Monkey by HeartOfEnder

I particularly like this submission because of its unique approach to the theme. For any Subnautica: Below Zero fans, you may recognize this sea monkey that has a Poptropica-style twist. The translation of the sea creature into a Poptropican is super interesting, and I love to see the comparisons between this design and the original. The color scheme is especially nice! It would make a great in-game costume. Find the artist commonly on Discord.

Rumpel Revolution by sleepybiker

With recent Rumpelstiltskin-ified items available in the Baron’s Cabinet of Curiosities, including a certain altered Dr. Hare costume, seeing Rumpelstiltskin in other iconic Poptropican outfits is rather appropriate, don’t you think? I like to think that he’s getting into the Community Creations spirit and really participating in this month’s theme of cosplay, if but in his own mischievous way. ๐Ÿ˜œ Plus, he just looks so darn cute! Find their DeviantArt here.

Ringmaster Raven Cosplay by Toma (toma.ki)

Again, here we see Poptropica cosplaying really taking off on TikTok! Ringmaster Raven is a fan favorite character (who deserved better, of course) and so it’s super cool to see him come to life like this. A funny use of audio to match the look, and very theatrical! The eyes on the hat to match Raven’s in-game hat really tie the whole look together. Find more on their TikTok here (note that some content may be 13+).

Honorable Mentions

As always, you guys crushed it with your creativity. My expectations for Poptropica cosplay are now super high. And what great timing with San Diego Comic Con happening just recently!

August: How Do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what itโ€™s about, itโ€™s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fics, Pop clubhouses, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that monthโ€™s theme. So what is August’s theme? August’s theme isโ€ฆ

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ฟ๐Ÿ“ผ ‘80s! ๐Ÿ“ผ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐ŸŽ‰

Maybe it’s been the lack of classic islands or maybe my binging of Stranger Things or our recent celebration of the Poppies, but with summer ending soon I’ve been feeling a whole lot of nostalgia lately. So as we move towards the future, why not celebrate the past a bit too?

Now, I know Poptropica’s demographic is more ’90s and early 2000s kids, but I thought it would be fun to turn back the clock just a little bit more with our next theme. The ’80s was an era of bright neon colors and bold styles to say the least, which could be quite fun to incorporate more into Poptropica. And some of its trends have made a return! I’m talking mullets, VHS-style video, vaporwave aesthetics, you name it.

Influence from the ’80s can even be seen in Poptropica. Maybe draw DJ Saturday Nite in a ton of neon colors? Or reimagine the Night Watch mall as if it were in the 1980s. Make your best ‘80s inspired costume or even write about an island set in the ’80s. Check out LJ’s Poptropica fashion through the decades for some more inspiration.

  • Submit: Comment below with a link to whatever youโ€™ve created, email it to the PHB team on our Contact page, OR share it with me (SydVC aka Spotted Dragon) on DeviantArtTwitterTumblr, or Discord.
  • Results: Next month, I will feature 5 submissions that stood out to me the most as well as some honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Just make sure you relate to both the theme and Poptropica (and nothing NSFW or otherwise inappropriate).
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as youโ€™d like!

I will be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. While quality counts, Iโ€™m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so donโ€™t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

Poptropica Awards

Community Awards

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees of the 2022 Poppies! The spotlights are well deserved. ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŒŸ

This year, the Poppies had a special visitor on our Discord server: Official Poptropica! At least, it seems to be โ€” our hunch is that it’s legit. Appearing after the show for only a few minutes, the new account dropped by with just one short and sweet message of thanks plus some hype for “more Discord appearances.” Will we get to interact with the current social media manager like in the days of Skinny Moon? Maybe we’ll find out soon. In any case, it’s an honor to have Pop stop by! ๐Ÿคฉ

(UPDATE โ€“ DEC 2023:ย The Discord appearance has beenย debunkedย as not representing the real Poptropica. The PHB apologizes for the error.)

Popspiracy: Amelia is a Villain โ˜•๏ธ

Hey Poptropicans, this is aย guest postย by Dizzy Feather.ย Enjoy!

Dizzy Feather again, continuing with my theory about the Red Baron and Amelia. (Read part oneย on why the Baron is not the Queen of Fairytale here!) Anyway, in this post I will be discussing how I believe Amelia is a villain. I know it sounds ridiculous, right? But trust me, it’ll make sense.

Let’s start in Amelia’s clubhouse. Right at the doorway lies my first piece of evidence: the deed to Home Island. Although she says she got it to set up her shop, let’s think about it: who else owns a whole island? I can’t think of one in all of Poptropica, and if you ask me, owning an island sounds like something a villain would love.

On the shelf, we see a tea box with a silhouette of E. Vile, the villain fromย Legendary Swords. It’s probably nothing, but could it also be a hint of its return? Anyway, let’s get back on track…

In her home, we also see a picture of Amelia holding a trophy, with an angry Baron waving a wrench behind her. Another photo shows Xavier and Amelia flying in the plane we rode on in Monkey Wrench Island.

But look the way Amelia’s looking at Xavier and smiling… is it just me, or does she look nervous, like she just did something she doesn’t want him to know about? I think these two pictures are telling a story: Before we came along, Amelia’s co-pilot was Xavier, and one year during the great race, Amelia threw a wrench in the Baron’s plane, which is why the Baron threw one in Amelia’s later on.ย If I’m right, could that have been what started their rivalry in the first place?

Now over at the Baron’s cabin, there is a picture of the Baron throwing money from a bank down to a group of Poptropicans. If the Baron was a full-on villain, then why wouldn’t she keep the money for herself? Perhaps the bank was stealing money from the people and the Baron was returning it?

My final piece of evidence is in the Baron’s dialogue. After you completeย the Baron’s Crusade, you can ask her three questions. When you ask if it’s just her and Ack, the Baron responds, “Mate, when you’ve been in the game as long as I have, you find trust is hard to come by.” I believe she is referring to Amelia breaking her trust at some point.

The Baron has been labeled the villain in the rivalry, but I believe that is wrong. As it once was said inย Mocktropica:ย “There should be an enemy who’s been hiding in plain sight, but who could it be?”ย

Hope you enjoyed thisย guest postย by Dizzy Feather. If you did, you might also enjoyย part one of her theory about how the Red Baron is Not the Queen of Fairytale Island.

Popspiracy: the Red Baron is Not the Queen of Fairytale Island ๐Ÿ‘ธ

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Dizzy Feather. Enjoy!

Hello everyone, Dizzy Feather here with a theory on Amelia and the Red Baron. I’m going to split this into two parts. This is part one, where I’m going to be discussing the theory of the Queen mentioned at the end of Rumpel’s Challenge being the Baron. You might have heard that theory, but I’m not here to prove it right. I don’t blame you if you think it is โ€” I thought so too, until I played Rumpel’s Challenge.

Let’s get into why I changed my mind, shall we? The picture that stirred it all up was this one from last Thanksgiving:

Some comments on that post suggested it was showing that the Baron was part of the royal family of Fairytale Island, and possibly was even the queen herself. Both the king and prince are crying, which makes sense considering they are afraid of the queen. Overall, this photo is a solid piece of evidence supporting the queen = Baron theory… or is it?

Let’s look at the photo closer, specifically the background. We see a silhouette of the queen and some cats with red glowing eyes. The queen seems to have long pointy eyelashes, but the Baron only has a few black lines for eyelashes like most female Poptropicans. Also, why would there be a silhouette of the queen with the Baron at the same time if they were the same character? Seems kinda pointless to me.

Let’s move on to our next piece of evidence: cats. A while back, the Pop Creators shared concept art of a character for Fairytale Island. Here it is:

The third picture of the character looks like the statue and the silhouette of the queen. But look at the first one: she’s holding a bunch of cats. In the background of the Thanksgiving photo, she is surrounded by cats. So the queen seems to like cats. As for the Baron? We have never seen her with a cat… in fact we’ve only seen her with one pet, Ack the monkey.

Still, need more proof? How about this golden statue of the Baron wearing a crown in the royal treasury of Fairytale Island?

Looks just like her, though she’s wearing a crown here. Meanwhile, the queen gets her own large statue in the middle of the treasury that looks totally different. Considering that most characters in Poptropica keep the same outfit, they are probably two distinct characters. Truthfully, I don’t see the Baron being an exception to this. So my thought is, the Baron is related to the queen, but she isn’t the queen herself.

The queen’s statue is right in the middle of the treasury with the sleeping dragon.

I came to that conclusion after considering what I shared above. You’re welcome to believe otherwise, but I have my mind made up.

Next time, I’ll be sharing my theory on how Amelia is a villain…
