Ask Poptropica Siri #13: Friends, fanships, and funny flavors

Ask Poptropica Siri is a Q&A segment here on the PHB where you, dear readers, are invited to send in your Poptropica questions to have them answered with all the wisdom you can expect from a Smart Icicle.

Hey everyone! It’s good to be back. Let’s get into some of your questions!

You get to invite one Poptropica character to your birthday party! Who are you inviting? ~HeartOfEnder

This is one of the hardest questions. My birthday has already passed this year, but to be honest, I always wanted to have a pirate-themed birthday party. So I would probably invite Captain Crawfish. Not to throw any of the other Poptropica characters out the door — I would invite all of them, because then it would be a nice house party. 😎

Spilled Milk: Don’t cry over it.

What is your favorite Poptropica fanship? ~Magic Kid

I feel a little embarrassed now because I don’t know about most Poptropica fanships. I think of the characters more as friends than being romantically involved. I guess I’d pick Dr. Hare and Dr. Beev (I know I said that before, but that is really the only fanship I know of).

I’m curious about what your favorite fanships are — share them in the comments!

What is Zomberry juice made out of? ~Rough Clown

So we know that on Zomberry Island, it is made out of blueberries. But taking it a step further, I would like to think of the Zomberry juice as a Grimace Shake — that limited edition berry-flavored purple smoothie from McDonald’s last summer. Poptropica totally saw that one coming!

Finally, I want to answer a question of my own — what’s next for me and the PHB? I’m heading off for college soon, but I’ll still be around this community! The PHB is the first blog I’ve worked on, and I think it’s made me become a better writer. I may even pursue writing as a career.

Trust me, I’m not done yet with the PHB. I still have fun articles I’m working on, including a big Pop-over that I hope you will all enjoy. I just wanted to share this, so thank you and I hope to see you all soon!

Ask Poptropica Siri #12: Horrors, heroes, and heartbreak

Ask Poptropica Siri is a Q&A segment here on the PHB where you, dear readers, are invited to send in your Poptropica questions to have them answered with all the wisdom you can expect from a Smart Icicle.

Hey fellow Poptropicans! Welcome back to Ask Poptropica Siri. I’m so excited to be back and return from yet another hiatus. Let’s jump into it!

If all the islands existed in real life, which one would you not want to go to? ~Magic Kid

I would love to go to most any of the islands IRL, but I would not want to go to the Monster Carnival Island. No offense, I like carnivals, but when it becomes nighttime with all the monsters, I’m not really a fan. Another would be Vampire’s Curse because meeting a vampire hunter would scare me. (It would be cool flying around as a bat, though! 🦇)

Who do you think is the most well-written hero? ~Serious Heart

This was hard, but I would have to say Basho from Red Dragon Island. I really like how he teaches us how to become a ninja. It was fun to learn, but stealth is not my specialty.

What is your reaction to what’s currently happening in Poptropica?

So this is the most brought-up question I see in the fandom. My initial reaction on the Poptropica shutdown rumors was that I was devastated. I have been playing Poptropica for a really long time now and it’s sad to see a popular game run into problems and almost come to its end. To me it was like seeing the disappearance of Club Penguin again — any OGs here will remember Club Penguin.

Poptropica is one of my favorite childhood games that I still play to this day. I’m glad it’s not shutting down yet, because if it was, then I don’t know what game I will play. It is the only thing left of my childhood that I remember playing.

Dog Paddle: Keep kicking those feet.

Ask Poptropica Siri #11: Tragic tales and tempting tastes

Ask Poptropica Siri is a Q&A segment here on the PHB where you, dear readers, are invited to send in your Poptropica questions to have them answered with all the wisdom you can expect from a Smart Icicle.

Hey Poptropicans! Welcome to another Ask Poptropica Siri post. Let’s roll in the questions!

In your opinion, which Poptropica character has the most tragic backstory? ~Magic Kid

(Spoilers ahead for Arabian Nights Island!) I would go with Scheherazade as she was neglected by her father due to his thirst for wealth, which pushed her into becoming the master thief. All she wanted was for her and the Sultan to be happy. If you really think about it, the Sultan never cared for his daughter until he saw the drawing Scheherazade had created. Seeing parents completely obsessed with something else other than caring for their family seems tragic to me.

How tragic is Ringmaster Raven’s backstory from Monster Carnival? ~Raven stans on the PHC

Considering how Raven (then known as Bird Boy) was kicked out of his town according to the newspapers, I would say that it was a little bit tragic. But I’m neutral about all the controversy about Raven. Like many other villains, Raven wants revenge for their tragic backstory. Remember, this is only my opinion on Raven.

If Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sold cookies and Red Dragon Island had noodles, which would you like better? ~Serious Heart

Well if I had to choose, I would go for the noodles from Red Dragon. I like cookies, but eating them every single day would not be healthy. I am a noodle lover, that’s what I stick to. (But I wouldn’t mind an occasional cookie from the chocolate factory!)

Ask Poptropica Siri #10: Non-villains, non-costume items, and not dead

Ask Poptropica Siri is a Q&A segment here on the PHB where you, dear readers, are invited to send in your Poptropica questions to have them answered with all the wisdom you can expect from a Smart Icicle.

Hello fellow Poptropicans, welcome back to Ask Poptropica Siri! Hope you are all having a great summer. Let’s answer some questions:

In your opinion, who are the best non-villain character(s) in Poptropica? ~Silver Tiger

For me, the best non-villain characters are Harold Mews, Basho, Amelia, and the Baron (I know, I know, the Baron was technically a villain in Monkey Wrench, but she is good or neutral now, since she sells stuff on her airship). I like these characters because each of them remind me of what I am like in real life, or my favorite interests.

The Baron is my favorite because she reminds me of my interest in pirates. Harold Mews from Cryptids Island is my second fave right from the beginning because I like his interest in catching mythical creatures like the Giant Squid, Bigfoot, etc. Basho from Red Dragon Island is my third fave since I enjoy Asian culture. And I started to like Amelia after I completed her mini-quest. (Her facial expressions when the player finds the cargo were cute — it reminded me a bit of anime.)

What is your favorite store item(s) that isn’t a costume? ~GreedyShadow

I would have to go with all the clubhouse decor. I like it when there are themes — like summer, Rumpelstiltskin, and Dr. Hare (way back when Poptropica Worlds was still a thing). Some of my favorite clubhouse decor are the wallpapers, various mythical creatures (especially the phoenix, mermaid, and unicorn), and some of the picture frames (the Dr. Hare one is cute).

You’ve been giving me some hard but good questions, and the next one is no exception! This one is more about my fandom activity than the game itself, but since I get asked so much, I want to share my response with you readers today.

Is Smart Icicle’s Blog still running? Are you still looking for more writers? ~everyone on my blog and friends from the Pop community

I would like to say yes, my blog is still alive and kicking! If you’re interested in writing for my blog, where I share about Poptropica and other media I enjoy, contact me on my blog, with the methods below, or DM me on Discord (I’m on the PHC). Also, thanks to Dizzy Feather for her support! In addition to my blog, you can check out hers, which is all about Poptropica and which I’ve been following every day.

That’s all the questions I have for now. Hope you all have a great rest of the summer. See you all soon!

Ask Poptropica Siri #9: Mini-quests, Minecraft lite, & Monster Carnival

Ask Poptropica Siri is a Q&A segment here on the PHB where you, dear readers, are invited to send in your Poptropica questions to have them answered with all the wisdom you can expect from a Smart Icicle.

Can you believe it’s already been over a year since Ask Poptropica Siri started? Let’s keep it going by answering some more questions!

How do you feel about the mini-quests? ~Silver Horse

I enjoy them! I appreciate how Poptropica still keeps making content for people to play, even if in short bursts, so we don’t lose interest. Mini-quests feel fitting for when an island leaves the player on a cliffhanger on what will happen next, like in Rumpel’s Challenge when we could see what happened to the king in Fairytale Island. I also liked getting a fun little epilogue to the Goofball Island story with Blitz on the Fritz.

What is Poptropica Realms and how can you access it? ~Silver Tiger

Realms is where you get to build your own world, share it with others, and all that fun stuff. It’s similar to the game Minecraft, except you won’t die of hunger and there isn’t much of a survival element. You can find out more in the PHB’s Poptropica Realms Guide. It’s currently only available in the Steam bundle, not in the regular game.

Thoughts on Monster Carnival’s rewritten ending? ~Slanted Fish

Ok, so first I am happy that they brought back Monster Carnival (to Steam at least). I liked Bird Boy! I was a little sad when I found out they changed the story. But I’m also a little bit happy that you get to be friends with Ringmaster Raven, so I guess I mainly just feel neutral about the ending. It reminds of my own friendship with my drawing buddy, Bronze Socks, who would probably do the same thing of trying to help and befriend Raven.

I know some fans are still concerned about the ending despite its update, and that’s okay. This is just my opinion!

To all US readers, have a good 4th of July! 🎇 See you soon, Poptropicans!
