Mega hints for a mocking island

‘Allo Poptropicans! We’ve arrived at the penultimate point of the Steam island hints! (Visit past hints: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.)

Here’s hint twelve: “Devise a plan to reverse a mega bot-ched op. Virtually everything is on the line!”

We’ve got a good hunch on this one, although the Creators’ Blog hints that this could “be applied to two other islands.” Besides the seemingly obvious, we might venture a guess for PoptropiCon, with its hench-bots serving the robo-suited Omegon, or Game Show, where we’ve got to reverse a robot domination.

However, the Mega Fighting Bots reference (“Mega Bot-ched”) points us right in the direction of Mocktropica, once again an AS3 island.

…wait. Mocktropica?

How A Bot That: Nobody told these guys about Asimov’s three laws of robotics.

While a cult classic, Mocktropica has become notorious for its unintentional prediction of what Pop was soon to become. Many aspects of the story take a jab at the obsession with surface-level gaming gimmicks like costumes and pets, as well as removing any challenging elements.

Adding on references to former Pop Creators who had been let go by management, this island may be an odd (albeit welcome) addition to the pack. At least we can enjoy the pretty musical theme in-game again!

It’s the end of the year, and we have two islands to mark it (totally not because I got so lost in the holidays that I forgot to make November’s post!). I’ll be highlighting both islands selected for the past couple months, which are…

Game Show & Mocktropica!!

While not often listed among the most favorite classic islands, many fans have good memories of Game Show Island, and it has a particularly unique design and setting! It takes the futuristic aspects of Astro-Knights and the apocalyptic ones of Steamworks, and fuses them together in an A.I.-takes-over-humanity story. Also includes the fun and games style of Reality TV, this time with more danger!

More Robots: It’s like they’ve taken over or something.

But unlike Sprocket and Merlin, these robots are not so friendly, all culminating to an epic battle against the evil supercomputer Holmes… who you defeat with a flash drive. Ahem. Definitely a brains-over-brawn island!

Deep Thought: Putting processing power to good use.

All jokes aside, this island does have a lot of fun puzzles, at times requiring players to test their real-world knowledge with fun facts! It also features several IRL locations, including Istanbul, Miami, and Buenos Aires.


Operating System: When technology meets talent, anything is possible.

For our second and final feature, Mocktropica Island is a special one that is not remembered so much for storytelling, worldbuilding, or puzzles, but for its humor that pokes fun at the game itself, and all the negative directions the game and its developers could turn… some of which are hitting a little too close to home now.

Also, the theme music is severely underrated.

Mocktropica is definitely a cult classic. But will the devs ever re-release an island that would be even more self-deprecating now (especially considering the references to former employees)? Only time will tell. And let’s not forget the official Mega Fighting Bots website!

Let’s remind the Pop Creators why these islands became so memorable, and why the efforts that went to create them should not go to waste. Encourage them to preserve their past stories and their potential!

Mega Fighting Squirrels ?

What’s up guys? While cruising through Night Watch Island, I found a new advertisement building for the upcoming movie The Nut Job. You can also find the building on some other islands including Back Lot, Virus Hunter, and Mocktropica.

Once you enter the building talk to the grey squirrel, Surly, standing beside the door. He will tell you that he has a new sure fire plan to get the nuts. Your instructions are to use a nut catapult to shoot the nuts over to Surly the squirrel. This can get really tricky, but do your best to launch the nuts while the catapult is just perfectly in the green area of the base.

Once you launch ten nuts into the bag you win! You receive two prizes, the Surly Power and the Pistachio Costume!

The Surly Power shows a little cut screen of Surly dropping down to steal a nut on ropes and pulleys Mission: Impossible style! The Pistachio Costume is just what it looks like, a big Pistachio that you can walk around in all day PSY style.

Lastly, there is a new piece of news on the PCB. They realize that we may have seen through their little Mega Fighting Bot ruse pretty quickly, but that doesn’t mean that they love those little bots any less! You can now find some Mega Fighting Bots extras on the Mocktropica Info page, their very own wallpaper and poster! You can find the wallpaper here and the printable poster here.

They also promised that the Mega Fighting Bots themed Members Only Bonus Quest is coming soon, so stay on the look out for a new bonus quest featuring some fighting robots!

Daily Pop, Mocktropica Island

Our first look at some possible Mocktropica Island locations!

Hey everyone! I didn’t disappear, I have just been REALLY swamped with school work this semester, but I’m finally having time to both play and blog! Don’t worry, I’m going to be very active from now on that I managed to get through this first semester of high school. Back to the news!

With Mocktropica Island getting nearer and nearer, we may be getting our first look at what the inner workings of the Island will look like via the Daily Pop. Click the thumbnails to enlarge the pictures:

It looks like some of these resemble already established islands such as Twisted Thicket or Astro-Knights! Do you think that we will have to go into old islands and fix them? Some others look like we could either be creating new locations or maybe finishing locations. Either way, I think that these new locations shown in these previews will be pretty exciting!!

Time to be Tangled in Mocktropica Glitches and Bugs!

Hey guys, BT here. Now, the Creators actually posted TWO pieces of big news over the short span of two days! The first piece reveals the next classic island to get an update with sound and bigger screen… Time Tangled!

Yes, it seems that Poptropica’s 3rd island will be next to get this update.

And there’s a bigger piece of news that has spawned…

You know, that post when I talked about how the Creators could be parodying themselves?

No? Well, here’s my post back in June when I discovered it.

Well, the Creators finally announced it with everything but the Poptropica Store Members Only Gold Cards and the exact date of its arrival. Here’s the video trailer for the island:

(Is that a reference to the weird YouTube viral video “Cows & Cows & Cows” I see in the trailer?)

So I was right when I said that the Creators are parodying themselves (yes!). Anyway, the info page has some interesting info including the island’s approximate release time…

Poptropica is under new management, and it’s falling apart at the seams! The newest Island isn’t finished, the staff is nowhere to be found, and you can’t take two steps without running into a game-breaking bug. Get ready to go behind the scenes for your most important adventure yet — because this time, you’ve got to save Poptropica itself!

An island about making an island? ISLAND-CEPTION! Time to break the fourth wall, peeps, and save our game! (Although I wonder if this is just an excuse to get away with ACTUAL bugs and glitches that can occur…)

Speaking of saving our game, here’s an odd bonus quest that… may bring in a new villain! O.O

A rogue programmer has conquered a rival website and now rules it like a king. You must venture outside the safety of Poptropica to bring him back — if you can last long enough to find him!

Who’s that? Is the rival website MegaFightingBots.com, that battling robots game showed in the island trailer? So many questions, yet so little answers…

By the way, the Creators just made that website real, although coming soon. This is what you’d see on the website:
