Interview with Fierce Flyer from the Poptropica Creators ๐ŸŽคโœˆ๏ธ

Hello! Welcome to the next part of our series with theย Pop Creators interviewingย members of the PHB team. Meetย Fierce Flyer!

1. How were you first introduced to Poptropica?

Itโ€™s all thanks to my sister really. I remember back in elementary school, in the late 2000s, I would look forward to staring at her computer screen. Well, up until the day I thought to myself, โ€œHey, maybe I should give this Poptropica thing a try myself!โ€

2. Who do you think is the most underrated character? Overrated?

A name that immediately comes to mind for me as criminally underrated is Merlin. I feel as though Merlin gets lost in the masterpiece that is Astro-Knights Island. I mean, the bird sacrifices himself to save your Poptropican. Any respect Merlin has received through the years needs to be tripled, โ€˜cause I donโ€™t hear nearly enough about this saint of an owl.

As for overrated, itโ€™s gotta be Dr. Hare, right? I mean, no disrespect to the doctor who decided to wear a pink bunny costume but, surely his PhD couldโ€™ve gone to better use elsewhere.

3. What are your favorite scenes, aesthetically and to play through?

Purely for the aesthetics, Iโ€™ve gotta go with Episode 1 of Survival Island. I really felt like I was there, like I was freezing and needed warmth and not just in the game. Getting that full immersive experience plus the beautiful scenery, is both nostalgic and was revolutionary to Poptropica.

4. From your perspective, how have you seen the Poptropica Help Blog (PHB) and community change over time?

Change is inevitable. In the Pop community, the biggest changes that I dealt with were fellow bloggers and Poptropica enthusiasts coming and going. But through it all, my fond memories with them remain dear to my heart, and I have a feeling they would say the same.

5. How has your PHB career surprised you?

Joining the PHB has gotta be a top 10 moment in my life in terms of excitement and happiness. I was over the moon when I was welcomed in, and was pleasantly surprised to find that through joining the blog, I also became a stronger writer.

6. What inspires you?

I could go on and on about the many things I see and learn everyday that inspire me, but if I had to choose just one, itโ€™d be my older brother and fellow PHB author Sporty Boa. Heโ€™s played a pivotal role in the progression of not only my creativity, but also my journey of becoming my best self. So, shout-out to my brotato chip!

7. What does the Pop community mean to you?

This community means so much to me; itโ€™s hard to just put it in words, as corny as that sounds. Iโ€™ve recently turned 18, so Iโ€™m officially an โ€œadult,โ€ and I can truly say that the Poptropica community โ€” everyone Iโ€™ve had the pleasure of meeting โ€” will hold a special place in my childhood as a cornerstone of my life growing up.

8. How have your experiences with the community and Poptropica influenced you IRL?

Oh for sure! My blog, Fierce Flyer Adventures, began as a Poptropica site, but has also branched out a bit. I made a post 4 ยฝ years ago called โ€œThe Oath of Socializationโ€ where I basically challenged myself to break out of my shell and be my authentic self around others. That post really changed my life because, although it was only supposed to last for a week, I’ve been running with it to this day.

9. Outside of Poptropica and your PHB involvement, what are you passionate about?

Iโ€™m super passionate about sports โ€” all kinds, really. Anything with a ball, and sometimes a puck or wheel, Iโ€™ll be watching it. Along with that, a passion Iโ€™ve always had is creating stories. I want to be an author one day, or a director/writer for my own show or movie!

Favorites

  • Island: It’s a toss-up between Mystery Train and Reality TV, but Iโ€™ll give a slight edge to Mystery Train because of its captivating story and endearing characters.
  • Backstory/Lore: Ringmaster Raven. Such a captivating character with a truly tragic backstory, canโ€™t help but to feel bad for himโ€ฆ
  • Character: My guy Edgar! Every time he showed up on my screen I was grinning, a bright spot in an otherwise disturbingly creepy environment on Monster Carnival.
  • Villain: Poptropica has so many great villains, but the cake goes to Director D โ€˜cause as a kid, I thought he was the coolest dude ever. Hereโ€™s a hot take: I think he could rock the bald look!
  • Costume: There are a lot of iconic costumes, but the one I remember the most, and always used, was the Midnight Ninja outfit. I would literally try to find any excuse possible to throw that thing on.

Thanks for having me on! Catch this interview on the Pop Creators’ Blog as well. I look forward to seeing what else is in store!

Sad Blues with Ad Clues ๐ŸŒ€๐Ÿพ

Hey Poptropicans, pop in for a big blue ad and little sketches! ๐ŸŒ€๐Ÿ–Œ

A new ad is popping up in the ad spaces between scenes, though not (yet?) on Home Island. Tap into the movie poster for “Blue’s Big City Adventure” โ€” no ad building design this time โ€” to enter a bright city park. Then click on Blue, the dog, to start a game of hide-and-seek.

Run around the park in search of the five items, and for your efforts, you’ll win a Blue Rainbow Follower and Blue Paw Prints. Enjoy! And if you’re interested, this live-action/animated movie based on the show Blue’s Clues is now streaming on Paramount+. ๐Ÿถ

Speaking of ad spaces between scenes, the one from Amelia’s mini-quest has been popping up outside of visits to Adventure Outfitters. Now, you might also encounter this extra scene while heading off on your blimp to get to the map! Poptropica sure knows how to squeeze in their ad spots… and we’re stuck walking through them. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Rest in Pop: No more Poptropica Worlds ๐ŸŒ

RIP to the 3D, post-Flash Poptropica prototype: Poptropica Worlds. This week, the plug was quietly pulled from the game for good.

Rest In Pop 2017โ€“2022

Pop Worlds began its life in 2017, releasing only a handful of islands in the year that followed: Crisis Caverns, Greek Sea Odyssey, 24 Carrot and Home Island (both of which are different from the versions we know today), as well as the mini-game Dr. Hare’s Revenge.

Clubhouses began on Poptropica Worlds’ Home Island

But by 2019, with barely any updates and some glitches never quite resolved, Poptropica quietly began to retire the game, first by hiding all links to it from their website. However, as long as you visited poptropica.com/worlds or downloaded the mobile app for iOS or Android devices, which would sync with the desktop game, you could still play it. But as of this week in November 2022, it seems, not anymore.

Scene from Crisis Caverns Island

Now, going to the link will redirect you back on the original Poptropica.com homepage. The app has also been removed from the Apple and Google Play stores, which seems to point to the official end for Poptropica Worlds. We’re sad to see it go! While there’s no archive of the game itself available, you can revisit its legacy through our various blog posts under the Poptropica Worlds category. Rest In Pop, Worlds.

Thanks to Muddy Fly and Dizzy Feather for sharing this news.

While we’re missing Pop Worlds, over on this side of Poptropica, we may soon be seeing the return of one of this year’s free costumes! On the Creatorsโ€™ Blog, you can cast your vote for which player-designed outfit from the Baronโ€™s Cabin of Curiosities youโ€™d like to see make a comeback next month. Guess that means we wonโ€™t be seeing the airship this month, but at least itโ€™ll be back in time for the winter holidays!

On the note of design, check out the latest fan art features from Poptropica’s Instagram stories โ€” red’s a hot color this week! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Transforming Earth with a Poplitical Spark

Hey Poptropicans! Pop in for a drive around danger, a dose of proper politics, delightful fan art, and dazzling member gifts.

Head to Home Island, and besides enjoying the fall colors, you can now also take a sweet ride for a little spin in the new ad game for the animated series Transformers: EarthSpark! ๐Ÿค–๐ŸŒฒ

Thanks to Dizzy Feather for contributing to this news post!

Your goal is to get to Bumblebee without letting the robot spiders get too close. Like an inverse version of Zomberry Hero, you can’t let your danger meter get too high, or you’ll have to start over.

Though you get to pick which of the vehicles you use, you’ll get both of them when you win: a Twitch Drone Flier and Thrash Motorcycle Rider.

Over on Twitter, Poptropica dabbled in a bit of politics by calling for people to vote in the US midterm elections last week. ๐Ÿ—ณ Not since Poptropica’s accidental endorsement of Joe Biden for US President in 2020 have we seen their Pop-litical side, but considering the population of older players on social media, maybe it does make sense…

Enjoy the latest fan art featured on Poptropica’s Instagram stories this past week! And speaking of art, don’t forget there are just a few days left for the Holly Jolly Holiday Design Contest, which ends this Wed, Nov 16. Your idea could be one of the next member gifts! ๐Ÿ–Œ๐ŸŽ

Speaking of member gifts, check out this month’s goodies! Members of November can find a rainbow Baby Unicorn Follower, Unicorn Wings, and Unicorn Headband in their inventories. Smells like Amelia! ๐Ÿฆ„

Interview with Gentle Dolphin from the Poptropica Creators ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿฌ

Hello! Welcome to the next part of our series with theย Pop Creators interviewingย members of the PHB team. Meetย Gentle Dolphin!

1. How were you first introduced to Poptropica?

I first discovered Poptropica back in 2008 (man, am I that old?). I watched my little sister play Poptropica on the family computer one day, and I wanted to play as well. Guess who kept playing the game long after that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Who do you think is the most underrated character? Overrated?

Poptropica has a large quantity of characters, so some are bound to get lost in the shuffle over time. I have to agree with Purple Paw and say that Captain Ziggs is probably the most underrated Pop character. He gave his life to protect the citizens of Steamworks Island, yet he isn’t talked about much in the community. Even characters like the Elf Queen and the Magistrate get fan art on occasion.

As for the most overrated, I feel like Iโ€™m beating a dead horse by saying that Dr. Hare is overrated. He became the face of spinoff minigames, merchandise, and even Poptropica itself! He got so much attention that could have shared with other characters.

3. What are your favorite scenes, aesthetically and to play through?

I loved visiting the dream worlds in Super Villain Island. They have some of the best scenery and provide interesting insight into some of Popโ€™s iconic villains. My favorite moment was hopping into the paintings in Black Widow’s dream. Talk about an immersive art experience!

I also want to mention the maze sections in Ghost Story Island. We’ve seen Pop from side-on and top-down perspectives, but this was the only time we could turn around and see every little corner of a location.

4. From your perspective, how have you seen the Poptropica Help Blog (PHB) and community change over time?

I joined the community sometime in 2017, when Poptropica was searching for ways to survive the death of Flash Player. There was a lot of uncertainty about Popโ€™s fate during that time, and the community changed along with the game. Older fans either stayed on board or left altogether, and new players joined the community. While the fandom isnโ€™t as active as it once was, there are still dedicated fans creating fan art and crafting theories.

5. How has your PHB career surprised you?

First off, being invited to join the PHB was already a big surprise. ๐Ÿ˜†

In all seriousness, being part of the PHB taught me a lot about working with others online. I learned how to better communicate via text and how to plan online events like our annual Poppies awards. I still make mistakes every now and then, but that means there’s still room to grow.

6. What inspires you?

I get inspired by many things, from stories to music to real-life experiences.

7. What does the Pop community mean to you?

The Pop community is full of creative individuals with a shared passion. The PHBโ€™s Community Creations series is a testament to that fact.

8. How have your experiences with the community and Poptropica influenced you IRL?

You could say that Pop had a notable influence on my interests. Poptropica used to have a Daily Pop page that included comic strips like Peanuts and Big Nate. These comics inspired me to create my very own comics and set me on a creative path. I should probably get back into making comics, now that I think about it.

9. Outside of Poptropica and your PHB involvement, what are you passionate about?

Iโ€™m passionate about art and illustration. Iโ€™ve been working on a few projects, whether they be fully independent or with other people. Keep an eye out for them!

Favorites

  • IslandGhost Story Island! It has a compelling story and a subdued tone not commonly felt in Pop’s other islands. I definitely want to see this island return in the future.
  • Backstory/Lore: I liked learning about Amelia during her side quest. While it doesnโ€™t reveal any groundbreaking lore, it showcases Ameliaโ€™s character via casual conversation and set design. Her little apartment showcases her love of tea, her many adventures, and (of course) her obsession with unicorns. I certainly didnโ€™t expect that last one, but I loved it!
  • Character: Fiona from Ghost Story Island. She is a sweet lady with a tragic history, and she is responsible for some of the island’s most iconic moments.
  • Villain: The Super Power Island crew. Theyโ€™re a fun collection of villains to fight in a classic superhero setting.
  • Costume: I may be biased when I say โ€œPumpkin Punkโ€. ๐Ÿ˜œ๐ŸŽƒ

Thanks for the interview, and keep up the good work!
