Hello everyone! I’m HeartOfEnder, and I have been playing Poptropica for about three years now. Previously I made two guest posts on the PHB under the alias Spotted Thunder: a Pop Worlds house tour and intro of my Popsonas. If I had to say what my favorite old island is, it’s probably Vampire’s Curse.

For the past few weeks or so, I’ve been writing a Poptropica fanfiction called Storm’s Calamity, about a Poptropican named Gwendolyn (Spotted Thunder) and her friends who suddenly have to save Poptropica from an ancient calamity. While writing, I had the idea to make a short story for a guest post here.

This story features Alouette Rees, or Fearless Dragon, one of the main characters in Storm’s Calamity. Alouette is Gwen’s cousin and a talented witch from Fairytale Island. But what exactly is her backstory? That is what this six-part story aims to answer. Without further ado…

The scene is the dark forest from Fairytale Island, focusing on a lone tower in the woods with a sign pointing to it saying ‘Witch’s tower, approach at your own caution.’ There is a small garden outside, but for the most part, not a lot of people visit this tower.

We focus on a newspaper titled ‘Fairytale Newspaper.’ It reads:

HAPPY ENDINGS STOLEN BY MYSTERIOUS SHADOW, SAVED BY WITCH’S APPRENTICE
Residents of Fairytale Island reported their happy endings were missing on the morning of April 22. While the how is unknown, it was discovered 10 minutes after the incidents were reported that the culprit was a mysterious man disguised as the king, who is now missing. Exact details are unknown at this time. The mysterious man later transformed into a shadow after a Poptropican who seems to be the apprentice of a witch said his name, RumpelStiltSkin, three times.
All residents affected have received new happy endings, and Fairytale Island is safe again. Forces have been sent to investigate the real king’s whereabouts.
In other news, Cinder’s debut song, “Take back your flipp’n glass slippers whatever-stilts-man” has reached number one on Poptify. We interviewed her about this extraordinary debut…

The scene zooms away to show SABRINA, a witch with pointed ears, black dress, and a black cat by her side. There is a cup of tea in her hands as she looks up from the newspaper.

SABRINA:
New happy endings, huh. How many did you even create under what? 20 minutes?

The scene focuses on ALOUETTE, a younger figure sitting on the other side of her with a bowl of cereal in front of her.

ALOUETTE:
Three. Some of them are really weird. Did you hear what happened to Cinder? Oh, and that Snow White’s true love was a goat? Out of all things, a goat?

SABRINA nods, aware of all these new endings her daughter managed to create.

SABRINA:
All these new happy endings are amazing, Witchlet. We women can do our own things, we don’t need knights and princes saving us! That’s right! We are our own saviors!

ALOUETTE stares at her mom with an odd look, before checking the time and suddenly standing up.

ALOUETTE:
Shoot! I promised that I’ll help Red with delivering pizzas today! I’ll get breakfast on the way, don’t worry mother!

With that, she rushes over to a small table where a crystal wand, plus several other mysterious objects, are sitting. Grabbing them in one big swoop and putting them in a satchel, she slides down the stairs and out into the dark forest.

The dark forest hasn’t changed since RUMPEL escaped. As ALOUETTE walks through the forest, she spots something white in the bushes.

ALOUETTE:
That’s weird. Maybe it’s a broken piece of wood from someone’s house? Or that one white owl?

ALOUETTE investigates the white object and finds out that it’s not an owl, or a broken piece of wood, but an egg. It’s too big to be a chicken egg though, so what could it be? Where did it come from? ALOUETTE takes the egg and puts it in her bag. Maybe she could find out later.

The scene changes to Red’s Pizza Basket, where RED is preparing to open the shop for the day. ALOUETTE exits the dark forest and immediately heads towards RED.

RED:
Alouette! It’s nice to see you again! What took you so long? Not that I’m angry at you or anything, I’m wondering if something happened that delayed you or something.

ALOUETTE:
Not necessarily. Mother’s gloating about my recent mishap with that Rumpel guy. Anyway, found this in the dark forest.

ALOUETTE shows RED the white egg. RED stares at it in awe.

RED:
An egg! But what was it doing in the forest?

ALOUETTE:
(shrugs) Exactly, I don’t know myself.

RED:
Maybe we can hatch it? Then we’ll find out.

Just then, CINDER and SNOW WHITE arrive at Red’s Pizza Basket.

SNOW WHITE:
Hey we thought we might pop in and maybe order a pizza or two-

CINDER notices the white egg on the table.

CINDER:
What is that?!

SNOW WHITE:
Aww, it’s an egg! It’s so shiny and cute!

ALOUETTE:
Yea it was just chilling in the dark forest so I decided to bring it with me. Maybe it’ll hatch into something cool?

SNOW WHITE:
I bet! We’ll help out too. Don’t you two have pizzas to deliver?

ALOUETTE and RED both nod, before waving goodbye to SNOW WHITE and CINDER and getting to work.

SNOW WHITE and CINDER take the egg to the castle gardens. SNOW WHITE starts making a nest for it, while CINDER plays calming and quiet rock music for the egg. After ALOUETTE finishes helping RED, she sits by the egg and observes it carefully.

Days pass since the egg was discovered. One fine morning, before most citizens are awake, the egg started to crack…

Bonus Dream Interpretation: Zeus⚡

Hello again, and welcome to the final subject in my Dream Interpretation series: Zeus! (Catch up on previous posts in this series here.)

We thought the Main Four were Super Villain’s antagonists, but check again…the real mastermind behind it all is none other than the Greek god of thunder himself. What does Zeus’s dream say about him?

After his disguise is shed and his true identity revealed, Zeus is immediately thrown into one of the Main Four’s now empty cryotubes and trapped inside his own mind. Featuring an upside down Mythology Island with an inverted color palette and randomly scattered letters that, when assembled, spell out an override code, Zeus’s dream is very weird — but also might be the easiest to interpret.

Right off the bat, the inverted colors and anti-gravity effects likely mean Zeus is very shocked and disoriented at the moment; you could say he’s had his whole world turned upside down, figuratively in real life and literally in the dream. One moment he’s on the path to world domination, the next he’s fighting the player with the power of the totems behind him, and now he’s in cryostasis! The upside down world could also mean Zeus is worried his life will never be normal again.

The labyrinth sector of Zeus’s dream points generally to the same issue, but it’s slightly different. While representing confusion, labyrinths in dreams can also symbolize unending stress and complications or an unsolved problem that keeps repeating itself. Makes sense, seeing as Zeus has now been foiled by the player twice. How much more will it take to execute his villainous scheme?

Once you exit the labyrinth, you’ll find yourself on the Tree of Immortality. The tree could show Zeus recovering from his recent defeat and finding new hope; encountering a tree of life in a dreamscape might symbolize a new motivation, or it may be saying that although life is difficult, there’s always room to bounce back and continue. Good news for Zeus, but not so much for us in this case. 😬

The Tree of Immortality is also the first place in his dream where we see Zeus, and he’s not feeling too friendly towards us at the moment. He’ll attack by whizzing across the screen every time you find a letter.

Similar to the Black Widow’s dream, attacking someone could represent taking action against a threat or overcoming issues. Zeus isn’t wasting any time firing up his fighting spirit and launching back into battle!

Then there’s the matter of the scattered letters. I think it’s possible Zeus has a mind map — in other words, he stores important information throughout his brain and can easily access that info later, similar to the detective Sherlock Holmes.

After you’ve located all the letters in the Tree of Immortality, you’ll find yourself in the final location, an upside-down Mount Olympus. Mountains in dreams symbolize huge challenges and obstacles, or a growing need to prove yourself. Here, Zeus’s attacks become more frequent; he’s onto our plan, and he’s determined to ruin it.

Something else worth mentioning is Zeus’s abilities in his own dream. While we can only jump, Zeus soars across the screen like the thunder god he is. However, he’s still limited by this anti-gravitational world — he can’t hover in midair with nothing beneath him like he’s normally able to, and instead must find a rock or a branch to steady himself.

Upon picking up the last letter, you’ll be freed from Zeus’s dreamscape with the override code in hand, and everything in Erewhon Prison is set right. Except for the four escaped villains. Just a minor detail that might’ve been overlooked.

In conclusion: Zeus’s dream as a whole displays a realization process of sorts. In the beginning, he’s confused, in shock, and very unsure what to do or where to go. He then reminds himself that he’s quite literally king of the gods — no cryotube or bobble-headed avatar can stand in his path and get away with it! He must not give up. Zeus doesn’t appreciate being exposed or showing weakness, which is perhaps why he’s so quick to forge on and attack the player the moment they appear.

Unfortunately, Zeus isn’t taking much time to think here. His undying need to prove himself and live up to his reputation overpowers any sensibility he might have, and he refuses to pause and adjust to his new circumstances, which is perhaps why he’s unable to fly properly; and why his dreamscape hasn’t righted itself yet. Maybe next time, he should take everything into account before attempting to overthrow Poptropica.

…and with that, Interpreting the Main Four’s (Five’s?) Dreams has come to a close! It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve really enjoyed writing these posts, and I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading them too.

Daily Poptropica Comics Return — Read Them All Here! 💥📰

Hey Poptropicans! The Poptropica comic strip is back! 🌪

Starting this week, Poptropica is posting a daily comic with one strip each day in-game, which you can access by clicking the top banner on the map. However, the PHB will do you one better: you can read ALL of these previously released strips on our Comics page! 👀

Follow along on the adventures of Oliver and Jorge as they hop from island to island trying to make their way home — outside of the wacky world of Poptropica! You might recognize these boys from the Poptropica graphic novel series, which (as the Creators’ Blog realized) is not the same as the comic strip, and actually came out after it. Mystery of the Map, the first graphic novel, just won “Best Comic” in the Poppies — and is also fully archived on our Comics page! 🌟

Speaking of the PHB’s archives, some of you may know that we saved many of the old Pop strips through the efforts of one super-fan back in 2020. Just recently, however, the rest of the missing strips have been uncovered thanks to another fan, Nezt50! 🥳 You can find these recovered comics in Part 3 in our Comics archive, involving adventures in a few worlds that seem to parallel those from the game, like the underground mole people of Crisis Caverns, years before its release.

Poptropica’s comic strips ran daily for a period of time from 2014–2016 and were available on various online platforms. They were written by Paul Gilligan and illustrated by Kory Merritt, who is also the artist for the graphic novels.

Although the comic strips ended on a cliffhanger with the boys arriving on an island of Dr. Frankensteins, there’s no indication yet of whether the story will continue. However, with over 300 strips to share, Poptropica could be posting for a while before we get to that point — though we may have our answer by this time next year! 📅
