Pop 5: Popular Villains of Poptropica ๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Smart Icicle. Enjoy!

Hi! Smart Icicle here, and I would like to share a Pop 5 list for the greatest villains of Poptropica. They’re based on all your votes in my poll a while back. Now to announce these fan favorites:

#5: Zeus

“Angry Zeus” by BrittScarlet

The lightning king of all Greek gods! Zeus is infamous in Poptropica, having (spoiler) tricked the player twice in both Super Villain Island and Mythology Island. Mythology fans can’t help but be intrigued by Zeus!

#4: Myron Van Buren

“Myron Van Buren” by Brave Tomato (1313cookie)

The main hunter (and stalker) of Survival Island, Myron Van Buren is well known for hunting down the player for sport โ€” as well as for his iconic cry of “Tally ho!”

#3: Binary Bard

“Binary Bard” by Gentle Dolphin

The cyborg Poptropican himself, and also a former alias among the Poptropica Creators, we have Binary Bard in third. Binary Bard, also known as Modred, reveals himself at the end of Astro Knights Island. People might favor him if they enjoyed the plot twist or his style โ€” if anyone knows how to look good as a cyborg, itโ€™s Binary Bard.

#2: Ringmaster Raven

“Ringmaster Raven” by ray-of-flight

The one who hypnotized the carnies of Monster Carnival Island out of a tragic past, Ringmaster Raven is a dedicated villain. Many fans are of the opinion that Ringmaster Raven was good because he helped the player and Edgar, and the monster he became was a result of how unjustly he was treated, while others may think thatโ€™s heโ€™s nuts and definitely evil (the comments of a recent PHB Pop Petition post sure had a lively debate on this!). After looking at his past as Bird Boy, Raven definitely deserves a soft spot in our hearts.

We are at our final stop. Now to introduce the greatest villain of all time!

#1: Dr. Hare

โ€œDr. Hare and Dr. Beev’s first date” by HfEvra

It’s the evil bunny himself, Dr. Hare! Since his first debut in the original 24 Carrot Island, Dr. Hare has been saying that he will one day rule the world. But despite all the iterations of 24 Carrot we’ve seen over the years, he’s never succeeded in his villainy.

Recently, Dr. Hare’s had a new friend: Dr. Beev! Like a dynamic duo, Dr. Beev has everyoneโ€™s attention while Dr. Hare is busy making plans. Both Beev and Hare have been celebrated by fans and in Poptropica events like Hoptropica. Congratulations, Dr. Hare, on the title of fan favorite villain โ€” and Dr. Beev for being a recent fan favorite sidekick of sorts.

My Dream Island

My Dream Island: Jedi Island (Mystery in Space) by Dangerous Dragon

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Dangerous Dragon. Enjoy!

What’s popping, Poptropicans? DD here, and it is a warm bright day in the Pop universe. Today Iโ€™m going to show you my Dream Island! I did not enter this into Poptropica’s contest because I was a little inactive at that time, but hey, I’m bringing my creativity here. Let’s begin!

*clears throat*

First look

The story begins with a cutscene, where you are an astronaut in space. Suddenly, there is a blast, and your spaceship breaks. You are now floating in the open space, unconscious but alive.

Rocket Man: Try to keep from burning out your fuel up here alone.

You wake up in five or six hours, not remembering anything. Then a person dressed in black robes comes to you. You try to run, but your feet are swollen, so you can’t move. Just as the darkly dressed man reaches you, he assures you that he is a good man, and he is the captain of this Jedi spaceship you’re in. You can’t believe it! You are in a Jedi spaceship!

From there, the screen goes black. Next thing you know, they have treated your legs so that you can walk around! Then the action begins… walking around, you find the captain in his room, and he looks a bit concerned. Turns out the whole crew’s lightsabers are running out of power, and they’re not sure how long they can keep their operation afloat.

Being the smart, adventurous Poptropican you are, you volunteer to help. So you search everywhere, gathering clues to help the Jedi find fuel and crystals for their operation…ย

Locations

These are just a few of the places you’ll be visiting.

  • Launch site – This is where youโ€™ll find many spaceships.
  • The cockpit – This is where the captain stays.
  • Planet Naboo – The place where youโ€™ll find the crystals.
Hyperspeed: We’re going to infinity. But not beyond. That’s impossible.

Clues

As you help characters throughout the island, you’ll gain some helpful items and insights.

  • Keycard – you will get it by helping RW-22. This will help you open the room and look in the spaceship.
  • Repair kit for the spaceship – in the mechanic’s room. You’ll need it to repair the spaceship when it starts to break down!
  • A bone – for Princess Kopi (hello, Thinknoodles fans!), a dog you’ll meet on Fairy Tale Island (yes, the one currently in production… and yes, you’ll be traveling to different Pop islands!)
  • Dog tail – You can wear this, and when you tap the spacebar, the tail shakes and dances! You’ll need this to befriend a dog…
Photo Finish: Snapshots of happier times.

Characters

  • Captain Cyrus – The Jedi captain. Youโ€™ll be meeting with him throughout this island.
  • Ringmaster Raven (thatโ€™s right, our boy from Monster Carnival!): Heโ€™s good now. Heโ€™ll give you the crew’s lightsabers to fill them up with the crystals.
  • RW-22 – A droid who’ll give you a lesson on how to fly a spaceship and a keycard to open up a spaceship. Heโ€™ll only help you if you help him clean the captainโ€™s spaceship in the launch site. There are loads of ships there, so you’ll have to explore them all to find the right one.
  • Co-captain Salerno – Yes, from Lunar Colony! Sheโ€™ll be on the spaceship too (God knows how) and sheโ€™ll help you locate a planet you’ll need to find to save the ship.

Inspiration

To be honest,ย I donโ€™t know anything about Star Wars, but I took some inspiration from a book called Star Wars Jedi Academy by Jeffrey Brown. It’s fun to read! I also liked Lunar Colony Island on Poptropica, which also inspired this island idea.

Wow, I enjoyed making this! I hope you liked my island, and feel free to share your feedback for what I can add! If you are interested in sharing your idea, you can comment below or create a guest post if you want to get detailed.

This is DD popping out. Keep on popping, Poptropicans! Pop on!

Fanfiction, The Villain Saga

“The Villain Saga” – Episode 1, Part 1

(See previous)

INT. EREWHON PRISON — MORNING

DIRECTOR D., wearing a uniform similar to those worn by the GUARDS, heads down a long hallway. The doors are bolted shut, and security cameras turn to follow him as he walks. MOREAU is a few paces behind him, casting wary glances at the cameras.

MOREAU

Are you sure no one will recognize us?

DIRECTOR D.

Positive. Most of the news from our areas hardly reached anywhere else, unlike for some of these people.

They turn to look at a window, looking into the LUNCH HALL. Several prisoners sit at tables, some in groups, others alone. The SUPER POWER VILLAINS appear to be starting a food fight.

MOREAU

So, which one do you want to start with first?

DIRECTOR D.

I’m not quite-

DR. JUPITER approaches the two from behind, seemingly from out of nowhere. Both nearly jump when he speaks.

DR. JUPITER

Who are you interested in? I can probably give you some suggestions.

DIRECTOR D.

(Gathering himself; pretending not to have been spooked)

Uh, well, someone a little less…violent, perhaps. Intelligent so…they can have a good conversation, and one of your more notorious prisoners…so we can still have a challenge.

He tries his best to get people who will both be helpful for him, but not cause any suspicions from the doctor. It seems to work, as Jupiter quickly begins going through a mental list of prisoners.

DR. JUPITER

Ah, well…you may want to try Dr. Hare first. Heโ€™s very smart–

Cut to a door opening, looking into a small room with DR. HARE at a table, handcuffed. The shadows of DIRECTOR D. and MOREAU are seen entering.

๐ŸŒŸ Popular Poptropican: Dangerous Dragon

Howdy Poptropicans, it’s LJ here with an exclusive interview with our newest Popular Poptropican!

Popular Poptropican (formerly known as Community Celebrities) is a series where we recognize members of the Poptropica online fandom for their exceptional involvement and participation in community events. (Check out some of our past interviews here.)

Now without further ado, allow me to introduce you to Dangerous Dragon, an active commenter who recently won my Pop The Difference contest and who has an impressive 5 guest posts on the PHB (from this year alone). Let’s get to know this rising star together.

Welcome, Dangerous Dragon! Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.

Hello! You might already know me, but I am Dangerous Dragon! I joined the community because I loved to search about Pop. One day on the homepage I saw “Blog” and it took me to the Creators’ Blog. Then I searched if there were more and that’s where I found the PHB.

What is your favorite island in Poptropica? How about your least favorite?

My favorite is Time Tangled. The story is exciting and fun. I love anything with Time! Also, it tells us about many events that took place in history. Bring the fact monsters back please!

For my least favorite, I will say Mocktropica because after whatโ€™s happened with Poptropica, the jokes aren’t even funny anymore. I literally played the island with my pet Leo. The pop coins or tokens also made it into the game as credits. I have no problem with it… it’s actually a fun island, but these two things are examples of jokes in the island not aging well.

With three winners of the Dream Island contest finally decided, which adventure are you most looking forward to?

To be honest, I’m excited for all of them. But if you want to know about the one that I’m excited about the most… it’s Secret of the Jade Scarab. I never got to play Nabooti, so this Island can hopefully give those similar vibes. The others sound fun too… Goofball and Fairy Tale!

What does your dream island look like?

Well, my dream island is Jedi Island. I actually already sent a post in for this but I don’t want to give spoilers, so maybe see for yourself when the post comes out!

Tell us what you enjoy about the Poptropica community.

I love the community as I love the competitions and friendly posts on the PHB!

What are your goals?

I would love to work for Poptropica as a blogger. My other goal is to become a writer or game designer. I guess I just love Poptropica!!! I would also love to become a staff writer on the PHB someday! Even if I don’t get to, though, I’ll still be guest posting.

Thank you, Dangerous Dragon, for taking part in this interview with me. I had a lot of fun, and I hope you did too. To any readers who want to know more details about DD’s discovery of Poptropica, check out their My Place in Poptropica story. I think you might enjoy it.

๐ŸŒŸ Would you like to be the next Popular Poptropican? ๐ŸŒŸ

To nominate yourself or someone you know, send me an email at [email protected] or a private message on Discord with the following:

  • the name of your nominee (a Poptropica name or other screen name)
  • a reason why your nomination should be the next Popular Poptropican

Thanks for reading as always and I’ll talk to you all in the next one. Pop on!

Guest Posts, My Dream Island

My Dream Island: Opposites Island by Noisy Snowball ๐Ÿฆ‹

Hey Poptropicans, this is aย guest postย by Noisy Snowball (Inking 5).ย Enjoy!

Hey there! This is Noisy Snowball talking! This is my first guest post, and I’m super excited to share my dream island idea!

First, here’s how I got my idea: One day I was in online school, thinking about stuff. I had the concept of the butterfly effect on my mind, and Poptropica in my brain as well. The butterfly effect is the idea that a small change can result in larger differences later.

Anyway, I had a thought. Why not make an island using the butterfly effect as the main gimmick? It was perfect! I started writing as soon as I could. I call it: Opposites Island!

Plot

The player starts at what seems to be the ending of the island. You’ve managed to stop a scientist who was going to steal a dimensional travel machine. However, before everyone can celebrate, a portal sucks you away…

You wake up in a destroyed version of the island you just saved, and after walking, you spot another version of yourself! This other version of you says that the villain has managed to steal the device โ€” while causing a lot of destruction, which didn’t happen in the original dimension. You agree to help this version of yourself stop the villain.

Soon you both notice that there are two versions of the villain, who seem to have teamed up, are switching between dimensions. Now, you and your double must solve puzzles and platforms to stop the villains!

Plane to See: Sometimes a simple machine isn’t too simple.

Near the end of the island, there would be a final boss fight, where you and your double must stop the teamed-up villains. Afterwards, both versions of the villain would be captured, both you and your double would get a medal, and you would say goodbye to your double.

The double trouble gimmick

The main gimmick with this island is that both versions of you would act in opposite of each other. For example, if you pushed a box to the right on the not-destroyed island, the box would be instead on the left for the destroyed island. Everything would be in reverse, and you would have to use that as an advantage to solve puzzles.

Do Not Enter: Why doesn’t anybody ever pay attention to the signs?

This island would really show how a simple choice can really change things, and how to look at things and imagine how things could have gone differently. That’s the butterfly effect!

That wraps up my dream island concept! This is Noisy Snowball, guest writer, signing off!
