Now boarding: to Paradise Island โœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒด

Hey Poptropicansโ€”big things ahead! Group 1 is now boarding the first flight to the shortly anticipated Paradise Island. Poptropica has begun rolling out a new kind of Home Island experience, and thanks to idk the glitcher via the Poptropica Club, here’s how you can get your ticket for the journey:

  1. Head over to idk’s Format Loader and select “HTML5 MVP (Haxe JS)” from the dropdown menu. For best results, don’t enter a username or password, which will give you a new, unsaved account. (You can log in with your account, but it’ll skip some of the new features.) Click Submit, and you’re off!
  2. Another method you can try is clearing Poptropica.com cookies in your web browser and then clicking “Play Now” on Poptropica’s homepage, though that won’t always work.

Oh, and good news: The game screen is now suitably bigger! Honestly, they should have kept it that way a long time ago.

You’ll be welcomed by a Poptropica Airways flight attendant who enthuses about yourย destination, which will be “your own island.” She’ll ask you to confirm your photo, which will bring up the familiar orange customization screen. Once you’re ready to go, you’ll walk to the “Now Boarding” lane, and a plane loading screen is all that divides you from your destination: Paradise Island!

And then you land on a tropical shoreโ€”there doesn’t seem to be a runway for the planeโ€”and are greeted by an enthusiastic girl who insists on giving you a tour. She introduces the promenade and admits they’ve been behind on construction, but now that you’re here, you’ll be in charge! A half-built construction is visible not too far off… Anyway, she also takes you to the taco truck (which we saw in an earlier sneak peek) and your beach house.

But before you can enter, you’ll need to save your account. That screen looks different too: now, as you settle on a username and password, you get a “Citizen of the Poptropica Archipelago” passport with your photo!

Once you enter your house (which here is sometimes referred to as your Beach Hut, despite its grandiose nature), you’ll be greeted by two more girls eager to show you around. That’s when you get your first task: to buy three furniture items from the store Ko-Kea (a strange rebranding of Ikea?).

You access Ko-Kea through the menu, which is now a smartphone instead of the usual backpack. It’s basically like the clubhouse store we know from Home Island. When you’ve bought your three items, you get what becomes the first of many “Task Complete” screens. And can I just say… Is this not literally Mocktropica?

But wait, there’s more! You’ll then get a second task, which is to pick flowers from the promenade with which to decorate your new home. Step outside and you’ll find five very obviously placed spots to pick your flowers, complete with a counter at the top of the screen. Bring them back to your house, and the two girls, satisfied, will leave you to do your own building for your “dream island.” (One good thing from the tasks, though: they come with rewards of credits.)

There is one last bit with the first girl who met you, though. She’ll show you your mailbox in front of your home, where you’ll be getting messagesโ€ฆ on your smartphone. Logic aside, your first message comes from an unnamed friend, a girl with blonde hair, who’s excited to come visit (misspelled)ย you soon.

A couple other messages remind you to get your daily login bonus of credits (so that’s still a thing) and to come back tomorrow to adopt a pet. That’s it from the girls’ tour, but there’s more to explore!

Yes, despite the absence of a pet barn on your island, you can still get pets. Come back the next day, and you’ll find a new Adopt-a-Pet stand.

All the ones we’ve known are there, but there’s a new pet for members: an adorable Corgi. Without the pet barn, we don’t (yet?) have a way to customize pet colors, but you can still buy pet accessories. In fact, it’s another mandated task.

Day two’s final task is to begin decorating the island for an upcoming beach party. Grab some stuff from Ko-Kea, click “Decorate” from the menu, and add items to your island just like with clubhouse decorating. Ta-da!

Looks like we’ll have to keep waiting for a new day to unfold more happenings. Wonder how many days the Creators have planned out? In the meantime, the Map has been added to your smartphone, so you can go exploring the few islands currently out on Haxe (including Home Island, which may soon be replaced)!

Everything else on the smartphone is pretty self explanatory, and we already went through most of them earlier. Here’s a quick note on the rest: Closet brings up your collection of items (mostly store costumes), and along with Account and Settings, the screens are all familiar. Remember to use the curved arrow button to go “back” on your virtual phone anytime you need it.

Let’s explore what else is on Paradise Island! On the promenade, you’ll find, of course, your house, taco truck, and the surf shop (which is what we’ve previously known as just “the store,” where you can buy costumes and more for your character). If you head to the right, you’ll also find a trampoline, a rock wall and water slide combo, and… that’s about it. For now, at least!

Oh, and as you go around different scenes, you’ll come across a few new loading screens. Thankfully, they’re much less in-the-face about membership benefits like the ones we’ve been seeing recently (which don’t appear in this “paradise” version of Haxe). In fact, these monochromatic patterned pieces featuring sea animals, summer snacks, and other random items are all pretty cute!

That brings us to the end of our visit to Paradise Islandโ€”for now. Does it impress you? Or does it leave something to be desired? Here’s my humble opinion, from someone who’s been playing the game since near the very beginning.

It’s certainly a big update with new features that offer incentives to log in more often to see what’s new. Some of the ideas brought to life are pretty neat, like being able to decorate the exterior of an entire island.

But something doesn’t feel quite right. Why this, and why now? At a time when all Poptropicans really want is a new island to play, why did Poptropica create what is basically an overhaul of Home Island and its functions? It seems the word “island” doesn’t mean to the Creators what it means to the players.

Home Island

In the Poptropica universe, an island, at least in the past, has implied a story within which the player is immersed. (And a story, of course, implies a beginning, middle, and end.)ย Cobbling together a to-do list (ahem, Paradise Island) or a few mini-games (Reality TV: Wild Safari) on a new “island” area on the map, with little else to do, just doesn’t feel like a real island.

Now, perhaps we can give a free pass to the open-ended Home Island as a landing pad for players to kick back in between island adventures, and even to Paradise Island as it’s basically Home Island rebranded.

Snagglemast Island

But for the Poptropica Creators to invest so much into re-creating, over and over, the perfect new player experienceย (Monkey Wrench, Home, Snagglemast) โ€” that takes away from the time and energy they could have been spending to create an actual island as defined above. After all, the majority of players have been waiting literal years for a proper story-driven island.

In other words, Paradise Island feels okay at best, but it’s not what anyone’s been asking for. (Creators, if you want to hear our ideas, read our Pop Petitions!)

Member Gifts, Membership, Pets, Store

Poppin’ shoppin’ with Vibes ๐ŸŽ‰

What’s up, Poptropicans? It’s Lucky Joker here popping in to bring you the new member gift bundle and all the latest updates to stores (plural)!

The Party Popper, one of August’s member gifts.

The items this time around are pretty cool and are Poppercini (a parody of the old-school Tamagotchi virtual pet), Colorful Clothes, and Party Popper! I actually really like this set quite a bit. If I wasn’t sporting my tribal gear for our Tribal Tournament, I would totally throw these items on.

When you press the space bar while carrying around the Poppercini, the little gadget will open up on your screen, and you can see what your digital pet (a simple circle with antennae and limbs) is doing. It only has two moves, really: sleeping (catching z’s) or eating (what appears to be pizza).

The Poppercini “pet” in action.

The store has been restocked with lots of familiar looks, but a few new outfits too. Another thing to be glad about is that only 12 of the 32 available items are exclusive to members only (that means 20 are available to everyone)!

This weekโ€™s items are:

  • Costumes: Spring Fling, Unicorn Girl*, Navy Raglan Outfit, Rib Wrap Outfit, Chomper Outfit*, Red Heart Outfit*, Clover Kid Outfit, Lilac Star Outfit, Friendly Face Masks, Galaxy Girl*, Bookworm Kid, Retro Robot*, Sweet Strawberry, Firefighter, Vibes*, Rainbow Ride
  • Followers: Narf Follower, Mini Astroknight*, Noodle Guy Follower*, Charlie the Chocomonkey*
  • Powers: Wind Power, Electrify, Torch, Phantom*
  • Pranks: Egg Launcher, Inside-Out Power*, Sneezing Powder, Silly Streams*
  • Misc: Notebooks, Marshmallow Roaster, Hiking Shoes, School Backpack*

A * indicates the item is for members only.

It’s cool to see a few new costumes this timeโ€”including one (for members only) that is simply (and perhaps hilariously) called “Vibes.” Non-members can also enjoy a new “Sweet Strawberry” summer dress and a “Rainbow Ride” hoodie with a flair of Pride. Each one is just 75 credits!

Our Poptropicans are not the only ones that have access to style and flair, though, because the pet barn store has also been rotated about. You can’t dress a Poppercini, but you can certainly dress your kitty (or other, more modern-age Poptropica pets)!

The items this time around include Pink Afro*, Cool Cap, Flower Headband, Black Pointed Bangs, Tear Drop Glasses*, Hero Mask, Grey Beard, Eye Patch, Spike Collar*, Pink Tutu*, Flower Necklace, Blue Bow, Zomberry Eyes, Yellow Dead Eyes, Stars Eyes*, and Cute Blue Eyes*.

As always, everything here is really cuteโ€”well, maybe except for those Zomberry Eyes. You could probably use some of these pieces to create an adorable tribe-inspired look for your pet as well!

There are also some new options for clubhouse decor! There are a total of 20 furnishings and accessories now, with 9 of them being available for paying members only. We’ve got bikes, lights, and moreโ€”check ’em out:

That wraps up the latest materialistic updates, but that’s not all that’s going on in the Poptropica universe. In case you missed it, we’re hosting a big Tribal Tournament this month here on the PHB, so check out what’s poppin’ in our post below! And don’t forget to participate in this month’s Community Creationsโ€”the theme is “tribes,” which fits right in with our tribal festivities.

I hope you all are staying safe and well, and I’ll talk to you soon.ย Pop on!

Clubhouse, Escape from Pelican Rock Island, Haxe Javascript, Pets, Store

See what’s in store on Pelican Rock ๐Ÿฆ

Hey, Poptropicans! This is Gentle Dolphin bringing the latest Poptropica news.

The Creators have been hard at work moving the game and its many islands to the Haxe platform. There’s been exciting development: Escape from Pelican Rock Island is now playable on Poptropica’s Haxe build!

The island is currently in early access, so only members can play it right now. On the bright side, it’s available to all players on the Flash version of the game. (Thanks to PERCY JACKSON1010 for the tip.)

Looking at the map, the next islands coming to the Haxe build will be Mythology Island, followed by Shrink Ray Island, as we previously reported.

Before you start your prison-break escapades, make sure to stop by Bert’s Basement Gym and check out its common room store with your a-droid-able friend Quippy. If cuteness is a crime, then Quippy is guilty as charged. You’ll find them accompanied by a pelican on their head and dressed in a classic striped prison uniform.

Three of the four itemsโ€”Prisoner Costume, Pet Bird Follower, and Escapee Dr. Hareโ€”were originally made to promote Escape from Pelican Rock’s release, but the Handcuff Toss is new! Equip it and press the spacebar to throw your handcuffs in the air like you just don’t care.

Common rooms aren’t the only stores receiving updates. The three other in-game stores received some updates as well.

This week’s Poptropica store lineup is mostly the same as last week’s, but a few items were swapped. In costumes, Dangerous Waters and Mech Pilot have been replaced with Clown and Fierce Lion*. Also, the creepy Zombify ability was swapped with the lovely Love Potion* in the pranks section.

The Pet Barn also boasts a lineup of new and old accessories for your precious pets. Our returning items this time around are Sorcerer Hat*, Flower Headband, Black Pointed Bangs, Round Glasses, Hero Mask, Grey Beard, Zomberry Eyes, Yellow Dead Eyes, Cute Blue Eyes*, and Big Brown Eyes*. We also have five new items: Reading Glasses, Green Cloak, Fairy Wings, Bat Wings, and Bandana.

Finally, the clubhouse store has a new array of familiar furniture and wallpapers. This time around, the decor store features 21 items, 12 of which are members-only.

Don’t forget that the Poppies 2020 nomination round ends tonight, so make sure to fill out our survey and let us know who/what you feel deserves to win an award. Maybe you want to nominate some of the new pet items for Best Pet Accessory, or your favorite furniture items for Best Clubhouse Decor. Get nominating before time runs out!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Galactic Hot Dogs Island, Pets, Store

A galactic load of store updates

Hello, everyone! Gentle Dolphin here with the latest Poptropica news. We have few things to cover today including not one, not two, but three store updates! Let’s start things off with the typical weekly Pop store rotation.

Aside from the followers section, everything is different from last week. We have fun summer outfits including Nature Lover, Gone Fishing, Navy Raglan Outfit, Rib Wrap Outfit, Chomper Outfit*, Red Heart Outfit*, Ice Cream, and Big Burger. (* = members only)

Let out the power within with Flower Power, Torch, Phantom*, and Electrify*. (Side note: The Torch and Electrify powers look different in the Haxe version compared to the Flash version. The glowing effects don’t appear, so your avatar just has a color filter with some animated fire and lightning.)

You can get a little mischievous and transform people with the Troll, Zombify, and Medusa pranks. Finally, you can buy some miscellaneous items such as the Marshmallow Roaster, Hiking Boots, and a Colorizer Tool*! The Colorizer lets you quickly color your hair or skin tone, but you can already do that for free at the New You shop on Home Island. ๐Ÿ˜œ

The Pop store isn’t the only place receiving changes. The Pet Barn has gotten a similar treatment. The pet store now has a smaller selection of new and old items, regardless of which version of the game you are playing.

Some familiar pet accessories are present including: Yellow Pigtails, Rainbow Horn*,Blue Tiara*, Pink Sunglasses*, Pilot Mask*, Eye Patch, Spike Collar*, Pink Tutu*, Butterfly Wings*, Flower Necklace, Zomberry Eyes, and Star Eyes*. All players can buy their pets new items such as the Buccaneer Hat, Monocle, Yellow Dead Eyes, and Dizzy Blue Eyes.

The clubhouse store also has a new lineup of furniture you can use to decorate your virtual home. We have 23 furniture items, with 10 being for members only (that’s twice as much as last time!).

Man, that’s a lot of store updates. Looking at all this makes us ask, “Will the pet and clubhouse stores also receive weekly updates?

There hasn’t been any official announcement regarding this, and frequently updating three stores is pretty ambitious. Probably not, but we’ll keep an eye out just in case.

Now, let’s move on to some other game-related updates. You may come across some new loading screens while playing the Haxe version of Poptropica. These screens highlight some of the things you can do while playing the game such as buying items, customizing your look, and pampering your pet.

Poptropica has also been promoting the graphic novel series Galactic Hot Dogs, which was made into its own island back in 2015. When you log in, you automatically receive three interstellar gifts: three Galactic Hot Dogs books, a Mega Dog Costume, and an Ice Blaster (which was a store item last month).

The publicity doesn’t stop at prizes. On Home Island, you’ll find two Galactic Hot Dogs promos on the billboard. I wonder why Poptropica is promoting the Galactic Hot Dogs series now? The last book came out in 2017, and Galactic Hot Dogs Island was released in 2015. There doesn’t seem to be a new book coming soon, so are they building hype for the island’s release on the Haxe build? We’ll have to wait and see…

That’s all for now. What do you guys think about this week’s store lineups? Do you think the other stores will receive weekly updates as well? Have you read the Galactic Hot Dogs books? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Pets, Store

Look, Home Island is anew! Pets and costumes just for you!

Howdy doodly, Poptropicanos! I’m Lucky Joker happily reporting the arrival of cool Husky pets โ€” brand new in the Pet Barn today โ€” as well as the third weekly Pop store update for April. Let’s pop in!

For the first time in 9 months, Poptropica has finally given us a new furry friend to adopt and call our very own! Well, some of us rather… unfortunately, like a majority of the cute critters in the barn, the Husky is members exclusive. That still leaves free players with just only two options: the (basic, not husky) dog and the kitten.

This new husky is a really cute pet, though. I like its large ears, fluffy cheeks, and itty bitty tail. What do you think?

*carries pet* Now strutting right into the popping shopping center, we have some “new” outfits to choose from this week. Although it’s an updated selection, nothing of the current inventory is actually fresh.

Of course, we all recognize the classic Pop Star and Rock Star looks. Along with them, however, we have a bunch of casual getups we’ve seen available over the past year: Cool for School, Shady Pockets, Spring Fling, Cool Green, and last week’s Good Bunny. So yeah, nothing technically new. Here they are anyway:

It’s good to see familiar looks pop up in the store from time to time (and to have most options available to everyone for a change), but I hope to see original ideas coming in soon too. Hmm, why not hold a third costume contest? It’s never too soon. ๐Ÿ˜œ

That’s it for today folks! Be sure to keep an eye out for the analysis of the recent survey we held in the coming weeks.
