Shrink Ray reborn, comic surprise, & more!

Hey Poptropicans! There’s lots going on over on Poptropica’s official Twitter, especially with behind-the-scenes peeks and info, which will be covered below. For the latest in Pop, follow the PHB on Twitter! 🙂

Shrink Ray Island: the remake!

Among the many projects Poptropica is currently undertaking, Shrink Ray Island is being remade into an SUI (sound-updated island) – but not just that, there are going to be new characters/costumes! Like all the classic islands, it will still be a full island, rather than an episodic one. Poptropica tweeted this screenshot of a couple of characters wearing recycled trash:

That’s not all – they’ve also created a new YouTube playlist called “Inside Poptropica”, and of the clips currently in there, two now three of them are new! The first one shows Creators attempting the audio for different weird voices for “I’m a skull in a jar” (for the Lockwood & Co ad), another one shows the rendering of the Milk Box Head character depicted above, and the last video is just a silly ten-second clip of a Poptropican with a disco afro affected by the Big Blue Zomberry power dancing inside the Club Nouveau Riche on Game Show Island. Watch the playlist below:

Behind-the-Scenes: Dr. Lange rejected art & Poptropica comic book?

Poptropica continues to tweet more behind-the-scenes images, as they have been doing recently. Check out this cute doodle of Dr. Lange from Virus Hunter Island! (It wasn’t quite the look the Creators were going for, though, so it was rejected.) Still, what a cheery doctor. 😀

Another sneak peek they tweeted was this illustrated comic page (not strip!) of an untold Jorge & Oliver adventure with Vikings – and apparently, it’s coming January 2015! The colors are more saturated, too, so if this is what it looks like, perhaps they’re planning to make Poptropica comic books available in print! (They didn’t exactly confirm this yet, but that’s my guess!) It would be pretty rad. 🙂

Forgotten Islands to 3DS next week

Some time ago, we mentioned here on the PHB that Forgotten Islands, the fetch-questy Poptropica game currently available on iOS, will be made for the Nintendo 3DS as well. Well, this upcoming video game has a release date now: October 14th, which is next Tuesday!

The storyline of Forgotten Islands is not the same as any island on the online version of Poptropica, and if you’d like to check out what it’s like, take a look at the PHB’s Forgotten Islands Guide under MiniQuests! The 3DS version is likely to be the same as the iOS version, however.

Poptropica app to Kindle Fire

Poptropicans with a Kindle Fire, there’s good and bad news: Poptropica is working on an app for this device, but it won’t be around until early next year. (If everything goes according to plan!)

Poptropica Land “WOW!”s

Poptropica has tweeted some pretty cool Poptropica Land creations just in the past week or so (they’ve been calling them “today’s Poptropica Land WOW!”). Here’s a gallery of the latest “WOW!”s:

Great uses of the new Props feature! For more tips and tricks on making the best out of Poptropica Land, be sure to check out the PHB’s Land guide. 🙂 Stay popping, Poptropicans.

Cynopsis nomination for live maps & comic creators revealed!

Hey Poptropicans! You may know about Poptropica’s World Champions live player maps, which were introduced last year with the release of Virus Hunter Island, and which you can use to check your rank for finishing an island in comparison to players across the globe…

Well, the Creators recently announced that this feature has gotten them a nomination for the Cynopsis Kids !magination Award, which is pretty cool! The awards program is “judged by a panel of industry experts” – let’s hope Poptropica finishes first! 😀

By the way, if you have not yet checked your ranks for Survival, there’s a different map per episode: click here for Episode 1, here for Episode 2, and here for Episode 3. Also, if you’re experiencing some glitches in Episode 3, click here for HP’s post, which may offer some solutions.

—————————————-

If you’ve been keeping up with the “Poptropica” comics on the Daily Pop or Creators’ Blog, you’ll know the series is now on week 6 – but if you’ve checked out the PHB’s Comics page, you’ll know you can read up to week 8! Plus, Funbrain stores some Pop comic strips as well.

Anyway, Poptropica’s official comic series is now being published on a website called GoComics as well – and they’ve credited the comic’s creators, who we now know are Paul Gilligan and Kory Meritt!

As it turns out, both of them are already published comic creators on GoComics! Paul Gilligan does a series called Pooch Cafe, while Kory Merritt heads a comic called Lost Side of Suburbia, which also has a place on Funbrain.

Interestingly, GoComics’s page for Poptropica includes some links to Poptropica on the web, including the official Facebook page! There’s also a little blurb about the comic series as well as intros for the main characters, Oliver and Jorge. Enjoy the comics! 😀

New Poptropica comic: starring Oliver & Jorge

Hi Gs,

Check it out – a new Poptropica comic strip (simply called Poptropica) has debuted, involving the story of two young boys called Oliver and Jorge sucked into a monkey-man-inhabited dimension. It sure looks cool, and there’ll be new strips every day!

Oh, and check out the PHB’s new Comics page, where all the original Poptropica comics are being collected into a database, from Super Hot Dog Boy to unreleased strips of Poptropica!

You can read unreleased comic strips by changing the URL of the comic file. Visit that link and change 2-2 to 2-3 and beyond! 😀 After 2-7, change it to 3-1, etc. 😉 Also, Funbrain has even more strips that haven’t been uploaded to Poptropica’s servers yet.

A hearty amount of it has been released already, and you can keep up to date on the saga via the Daily Pop or Creators’ Blog. The nice thing about the strips is that they look quite authentic to the comic strip style – I’m curious to know who is illustrating them. You can get a taste of the comics below, or read the full thing here.

Virus Hunter: Pandemic Panic! (Part 6 of 6 & Printable PDF)

The end, or only just the beginning? This last page of the Virus Hunter prequel story happens to be both. All we’re left with at the moment is a lone strand of Patient Zero’s hair and a Canadian coin…

The story continues in Virus Hunter Island, which will hopefully be out soon! In the meantime, if you need to catch up on the previous Pandemic Panic! comics, we’ve got them right here on this blog – part 1part 2part 3, part 4, part 5, and part 6.

[UPDATE] You can now view the entire Pandemic Panic! comic with the free printable PDF!

Take a deep breath if you’re brave enough to venture into some dimly-lit lungs…

It’s a crazy world inside the human body – are you ready for it?! 🙂

Comics, LEGO Poptropica, Virus Hunter Island

Virus Hunter: Pandemic Panic! (Part 5 of 6) & LEGO panic!

The penultimate page of the Pandemic Panic! comic is here! If you missed the previous parts, you can catch up from our previous posts. Here we see Dr. Lange finally realizing her deathly mistake…

Well, at least there’s still that last cup of maple syrup she can attempt to calm her nerves down with… assuming it’s not contaminated too, of course.

Also, the LEGO CUUSOO project Dr. Hare has gone on and on about since last winter is almost to its 10k goal, currently with 9,325+ supporters! A final prize has been promised for when we do get there:

So, let’s keep going! These Dr. Hare Light & Shadow outfits won’t be available until the 10,000 mark – so if you haven’t supported the project yet, be sure to cast your vote and earn the bragging right to say you helped with the project (which has gotten over 2 million views)! LEGO has closed comments on the project page on the grounds that “there were too many off-topic comments,” but, of course, you can still share your thoughts here on the PHB.
