Poptropica Characters as Pokémon Trainers 🐰🐦🤩

Hello, fellow trainers! What would Poptropica characters be like if they lived in the world of Pokémon. What types of trainers would they be? What Pokémon would they use on their teams? We’ll look at three of these hypothetical trainers today. You can consider this as a spiritual sequel to our PHB Pop-over post about Popémon Go.

SCIENTIST DR. HARE WANTS TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Professor Harvey Hare was once a respected professor who studied Pokémon biology. Everything changed when an incident involving Infinity Energy fused his DNA with that of a rabbit Pokémon. Now he goes about his days stealing berries and plotting world domination. 🐰🧪

  • Wigglytuff– This Pokémon matches Dr. Hare to a T. Both are perfectly pink, have similar rabbit ears, and hide great power behind their cute appearances.
  • Diggersby– Aside from Wigglytuff, Diggersby is the only other rabbit Pokémon that fits Dr. Hare. Its powerful ears can dig through the ground and lift heavy items. I can see Diggersby helping Dr. Hare build his inventions and laboratories.
  • Orbeetle– It’s a simple nerd turned mad scientist, fitting of our favorite mad doctor. Plus, its Gigantamax form is capable of controlling the minds of others.
  • Hypno– Speaking of mind control, Hypno’s most infamous Pokédex entry states: “It carries a pendulum-like device. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized.” Dr. Hare would likely use Hypno to “recruit” children to work for him.
  • Alolan Raticate– The Alolan variant of this classic Pokémon can command Alolan Rattata to retrieve produce, which is extremely helpful for Dr. Hare. Plus, this could be a nod to the giant rats found in the carrot cake factory’s sewer system.
  • Durant– The Iron Ant Pokémon is a nod to the ants that plague Dr. Hare’s dream in Super Villain Island. Maybe he uses Durant to conquer his myrmecophobia?

GYM LEADER AMELIA WANTS TO TEST YOUR SKILLS!

Amelia is a lot of things in the world of Pokémon: a pilot, an adventurer, a landowner, an entrepreneur, and (most important for this post) a gym leader. She tests new trainers with her Flying-type Pokémon and sends them off with cash and words of wisdom. Her first four Pokémon are on her gym team, but her last two are her personal picks. 🐦🎈

  • Pidgeot– This iconic Route 1 bird is a great choice for many trainers. It’s a strong, fast, and striking bird of prey.
  • Braviary– Our American-born pilot has what’s probably the most American Pokémon out there. Aside from nationality, both are loyal and willing to fight for their friends no matter the cost.
  • Corviknight– While Amelia’s team has plenty of strong Flying-types, her Corviknight is the strongest of them all. Outside of battle, it helps her with transportation and deliveries.
  • Drifblim (Shiny🌟)– Amelia had a starring role in Monkey Wrench Island, which showed the origins of the iconic yellow blimp. It makes sense for to have not just any ordinary Drifblim, but one representing Pop’s yellow and blue. 💛💙
  • PolteageistAmelia’s side quest revealed a few things about her, one of which was her love of tea. Polteageist would be a tea-riffic companion, but it’s best not to drink too much of its ghostly tea.
  • Galarian Ponyta– Amelia doesn’t just love adventure and tea. Her side quest also revealed her unicorn obsession. Galarian Rapidash resembles the pastel “My Little Pony” type of unicorns that she loves so dearly.

POKÉMON COORDINATOR DJ SATURDAY NITE WANTS TO PERFORM!

DJ Saturday Nite is a Pokémon Coordinator, a type of trainer who raises Pokémon to compete in Pokémon Contests. Her performances have a focus on music, singing, and synchronizing her Pokémon’s moves to the beat. Of course, a coordinator needs a team that’s ready for the spotlight. 🤩👩‍🎤

  • Cosplay Pikachu– Anyone big in the contest scene would be crazy to not have Cosplay Pikachu. This special Pikachu is most frequently dressed as Pikachu Pop Star, matching her trainer’s style.
  • Loudred– The Big Voice Pokémon is the perfect partner for a DJ. Just watch the Detective Pikachu movie and see what I mean.
  • Oricorio– Oricorio is as talented as it is versatile. It can learn four different dance styles depending on which type of nectar it drinks.
  • Amped Form Toxtricity– Just like its trainer, this punk rock lizard loves music and knows how to put on a good show!
  • Tsareena– Tsareena is a beautiful Pokémon with a commanding stage presence. Its pre-evolution, Steenee, is known for dancing. Nite’s Tsareena would have likely kept this habit after evolving.
  • Starmie– Poptropica’s resident DJ incorporates a lot of star imagery in her wardrobe, and she’s a star in her own right. It makes sense to give her the biggest star Pokémon out there.

That’s all for now! I had a lot of fun designing Pokémon-styled versions of these characters. This might become a series if there’s enough interest from readers.

What do you think of these trainer concepts? What other Pop characters do you want to see as trainers, and what Pokémon would they use? Leave your suggestions in the comments below!

Baron's Airship, Fairy Tale Island

A Remarkably Red Rumpel-ween 🎃😈✨

Greetings, adventurers! Yes, as teased in our previous post, the Baron’s airship just docked on Home Island — unusual timing.

Previously, players were concerned about the Baron’s well-being after she twitched with excitement for a Rumpelstiltskin-inspired collection then suddenly disappeared. Now, the Baron now bears a striking resemblance to Rumpel himself! I guess he couldn’t keep up the charade much longer. Baronstiltskin invites us little adventurers to climb aboard her his airship. Let’s see what awaits us this spooky season!

Baron? You look a little green.

While the ship has kept its shape, the surrounding sky is purple and sparkly, like the appearance of Rumpel’s magic. Baronstiltskin is unashamed of their new identity, and Ack has followed suit!

The Cabin of Curiosities is full of surprises this month. Let’s ease ourselves in by checking out the two free winning costumes: Candy Girl by Fast Leopard and Jester by Blue Bones! 🍭🤡

Moving to the right, we see Amelia dangling from the ceiling while Baronstiltskin is eating grapes served by Rumpel-fied Ack. The three are surrounded by a pumpkin couch, candy bags, a jack-o’-lantern lamp, a black cat clock, and a cemetery painting. Despite being an aviator-apprehending antagonist, Rumpel offers all of these Halloween furnishings for the low price of 10 credits each.

Rumpelstiltskin reveals that he possessed the Baron and gave Ack an illusionary makeover. As for why he’s doing this, he alludes to how he became trapped on Fairytale Island then says that he is inviting the Baron’s mother over for tea.

Rumpelstiltskin confirms that the Red Baron has ties to Fairytale Island’s royal family, as shown in new dialogue options presented after completing the Baron’s Crusade quest (Thanks to Dizzy Feather for the screenshots!). Accounts from Rumpel and Fairytale’s prince paint the Baron’s mother, the Red Queen, as a destructive woman obsessed with cats and conquering. Why did the queen trap Rumpelstiltskin in the first place, and how can we fix this mess?

It makes you wonder if all of this was in Fairytale’s original pitch for the Create Your Dream Island contest. The Creators mentioned that the pitch had a full storyline and intrigue, two things that felt missing when Fairytale Island first released. Since then, the sheer amount of quests, clues, and cameos relating to Fairytale Island, Rumpelstiltskin, Amelia, and the Baron seem like they’re leading up to something big.

Will we finally get some answers for last Thanksgiving’s teaser?

I predict that we’ll see a new quest that will tie all of these storylines together. It’s hard to believe that it took almost two years to wrap up Fairytale Island’s story, which is bizarre to say the least. What do you make of all of this? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Popspiracy: Amelia is a Villain ☕️

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Dizzy Feather. Enjoy!

Dizzy Feather again, continuing with my theory about the Red Baron and Amelia. (Read part one on why the Baron is not the Queen of Fairytale here!) Anyway, in this post I will be discussing how I believe Amelia is a villain. I know it sounds ridiculous, right? But trust me, it’ll make sense.

Let’s start in Amelia’s clubhouse. Right at the doorway lies my first piece of evidence: the deed to Home Island. Although she says she got it to set up her shop, let’s think about it: who else owns a whole island? I can’t think of one in all of Poptropica, and if you ask me, owning an island sounds like something a villain would love.

On the shelf, we see a tea box with a silhouette of E. Vile, the villain from Legendary Swords. It’s probably nothing, but could it also be a hint of its return? Anyway, let’s get back on track…

In her home, we also see a picture of Amelia holding a trophy, with an angry Baron waving a wrench behind her. Another photo shows Xavier and Amelia flying in the plane we rode on in Monkey Wrench Island.

But look the way Amelia’s looking at Xavier and smiling… is it just me, or does she look nervous, like she just did something she doesn’t want him to know about? I think these two pictures are telling a story: Before we came along, Amelia’s co-pilot was Xavier, and one year during the great race, Amelia threw a wrench in the Baron’s plane, which is why the Baron threw one in Amelia’s later on. If I’m right, could that have been what started their rivalry in the first place?

Now over at the Baron’s cabin, there is a picture of the Baron throwing money from a bank down to a group of Poptropicans. If the Baron was a full-on villain, then why wouldn’t she keep the money for herself? Perhaps the bank was stealing money from the people and the Baron was returning it?

My final piece of evidence is in the Baron’s dialogue. After you complete the Baron’s Crusade, you can ask her three questions. When you ask if it’s just her and Ack, the Baron responds, “Mate, when you’ve been in the game as long as I have, you find trust is hard to come by.” I believe she is referring to Amelia breaking her trust at some point.

The Baron has been labeled the villain in the rivalry, but I believe that is wrong. As it once was said in Mocktropica: “There should be an enemy who’s been hiding in plain sight, but who could it be?”

Hope you enjoyed this guest post by Dizzy Feather. If you did, you might also enjoy part one of her theory about how the Red Baron is Not the Queen of Fairytale Island.

Fairy Tale Island, Social Media, Zomberry Island

Rumpel’s rhymes and pineapple slime 👑🍍

Boo, Poptropicans! 👻 Coming at you with a little Rumpel, another Halloween store update, and hints of something to come. Let’s pop in!

Poptropica just dropped a video walkthrough for Rumpel’s Challenge, the members-only sequel to Fairytale Island released last month. In the vid, Pop Creator Silent Frog mentions “other Halloween surprises coming later this month” — what could they be? Read on for a guess…

And if you’re interested in an even quicker way to solve Rumpel’s riddle in the treasury, check out our Rumpel’s Challenge Side Quest Guide!

Red October still reigns on Home Island and Amelia-the-unicorn’s got some creepy stuff in store to rival the Baron! Head on over and find new Headless Man and Egyptian Mummy costumes — it’s their first appearance on Haxe, though they were born from the Flash days, like the repurposed clubhouse décor here to haunt your house.

Back to the question of upcoming Halloween treats — Poptropica’s latest Instagram story may offer a clue for what might be brewing. Pop posted a pop quiz asking, “What antidote cures the Zomberries?” and if you know your stuff, the answer is pineapple slime. 🍍

The IG story is referring to Zomberry Hero, a special event from last year’s Halloween, based on the classic Zomberry Island. This mini-game involved sneaking around town to turn Zomberries back into people and previously promised more to come. Could we be coming face-to-face with zombie alligators in a sequel? Only slime will tell!

That’s a wrap for this update. Have you decked out your clubhouse (or your costume) for spooky times? What are your guesses for Poptropica’s Halloween surprises? Trick or treat yo’self, Poptropicans! 🎃✨

Popspiracy: The Magic Girl 🦄☔️

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Incredible Fire. Enjoy!

Hello everyone! Over the pandemic, I’ve gotten really into gaming theorists, so while I was scouring the latest mini quest for a potential “Is Amelia a Villain?” theory, I stumbled onto something… interesting. It may just possibly change the way we think about Poptropica forever. So what is this game-changing theory?

In the top corner of Amelia’s house, we see that she’s been studying Rumplestiltskin. The lipstick flashes purple when you interact with it — and it’s the same purple flashes with white sparks seen in Fairy Tale Island when Rumplestiltskin uses magic.

Also in Amelia’s house, we can see photos of her with her friends. Most noticeably, the girl from the statue on Home Island. We can gather from her statue that she’s studious, and from the picture, can apparently do magic. And what color is her magic? Purple with white sparks.

And that’s not all, folks! If you look at the king in Fairy Tale Island, he doesn’t really resemble his son. That could be for any number of reasons, but guess who he does resemble? Our magic girl. They have the same skin tone and similar bouncy hair.

Perhaps Purple Girl is actually Rumplestiltskin in disguise, or vice-versa. It’s not too far-fetched for our shapeshifting trickster. That would explain her absence from the game and why Amelia is so intent on finding her.

But then again, maybe not. Rumplestiltskin presents as a male, and seems older than the girl in the image. It seems more likely that he’s an older relative. Or perhaps the girl is related to the king, and Rumplestiltskin is a mentor?

And what role does Amelia play in this? Who are the other people in the picture? What about Xavier and Red Baroness?

If I’m actually right, what does this mean for Poptropica? Is Poptropica actually building an extensive lore around the newer islands of the game? Are they being subtle and letting us pick up on the clues for ourselves? Are we getting a part 2 to Fairy Tale Island? And most importantly, is Poptropica gonna be able to pull it off? I don’t actually think I’m right, but I’m excited to find out!
