A MESSAGE FROM ZEUS: WELCOME TO MOUNT OLYMPUS ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ

Foolish mortals, how dare you forsake Mythology Island?! How dare you choose that mismatched menace over me?!

The tournament must have been rigged from the beginning! Why else would the people favor that island? Mythology Island is home to Classical Greek architecture and powerful beings such as myself, while Astr*-Kn*ghts Isl*nd suffers from an identity crisis and is plagued by an equally confused villain. I will stand against this injustice!

From now on, the Poptropica Help Blog shall be known as Mount Olympus! I would have taken over sooner if I had known how to use “Word Press” and “Discord”. I had conquered technology during my time as Dr. Jupiter, but managing a website is on another level.

Oh, and don’t even think about calling your precious authors. I have locked them out of their accounts. It is only fair that they lose their domain as well.

Now that this wretched site is mine, I will give you Poptropican readers four simple rules to follow:

  1. ๐Ÿ› Show respect to your new leader. Write words of worship in the comment section or give yourself the “Zeus Zealot” role on the newly-conquered Mount Olympus Chat Discord server.
  2. โšก๏ธ Only discuss Mythology Island. Never mention other islands unless in a mocking manner, especially the false winner of the tournament.
  3. ๐ŸŒ„ Send photographic offerings. Like other gods, I favor certain offerings. You may send photographs of my favorite things: lightning bolts, eagles, bulls, and oak trees.
  4. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Build temples. I encourage you lot to build temples and expand the Mythology Empire. You may construct them on gaming platforms like Poptropica Realms, Roblox, or Minecraft. If these are not available to you, you may draw schematics or sculpt them with supplies at hand.

Obey these rules, and I will spare you from my wrath. Bow before Zeus, the god of thunder!

Q&A with Jonathan Pitcher, Art Director at Poptropica & Suit Up Games ๐ŸŽค๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽจ

Hey Poptropicans! It’s been a minute since we’ve conversed with the Poptropica Creators, and with Poptropica’s recent move to Coolmath Games and focus on the Roblox studio Suit Up Games, we wanted to take a deeper dive into how these shifts happened.

So we reached out to someone who’s been involved with the game since its early days and continues to work on both Pop and its spin-off Roblox studio todayโ€”Jonathan Pitcher, Art Director at Poptropica and Suit Up Gamesโ€”for an interview. Happily, he obliged, and below is our Q&A!

Robot Revolution: These bots have blown a fuse.

PHB: Whatโ€™s your current role with Poptropica / Suit Up Games?

Jon:
I get to wear several hats here. Many others do as well.

Poptropica: My title is Art Director, but my main role is a director for branded games for our clients like Disney, Sony, Paramount, etc. When we create new content for Poptropica like islands, I work as an artist with our amazing team of artists and developers.

Suit Up Games: I’m happily animating. This is what I love best. I help lead the efforts for our animators. I’m responsible, with others on our team, for creating the animations for our Roblox games.  I also help build character rigs and work with some of our newer artists as a manager.

Fill Er Up: Get your pitcher taken.

PHB: Whatโ€™s been your history with Poptropica?

Jon: 2009: I was hired to create our branded games. Some remember that as a Poptropica Creator I was known as Master Mime. During these years I also assisted with the art for island creation. I helped lead the animations and created new content for the store.

2011: I became the advertising director. In this role I managed the team of artists and developers that created branded games for Poptropica.

2017: I became an art director. As I continued to direct the branded game projects some of my focus shifted to helping create new islands and managing the Poptropica store.

2022: We started Suit Up Games. My focus moved to character animation for our Roblox Games. During this time, I’ve continued to direct and create branded games for Poptropica.

PHB: Poptropica is now with Coolmath Games and itโ€™s been announced that there are no plans to update it with more content, new or old. Meanwhile, the spin-off Roblox studio Suit Up Games, which youโ€™ve been working with, has been growing. From your perspective, how and why have these shifts occurred, and how do you feel about them?

Jon: We worked very hard for many years to keep Poptropica rolling forward. It was our main passion to keep telling stories through creating games. For many years that was solely through Poptropica. It was an amazing ride. Like all studios there have been bumps along the way, but we continued to learn. Our passion for creating these kinds of games has not stopped. It was time to position Poptropica with Coolmath Games. They have been wonderful partners with us. Their traffic is very strong, and we hope many of our dedicated Poptropica players will join forces with those that play on Coolmath Games. With this transition I hope our Poptropica community of players will grow even more. The more people play and have fun on Poptropica, the greater the possibilities can open for Poptropica’s future.

Holmes Run: Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could do it…

As we made these kinds of transitions, we needed our company to keep moving forward. As gaming evolved, we did too, and we created Suit Up Games. We have a strong relationship with our clients who want to keep making games with us. We also have our own ideas for games from the stories we want to tell. The future is bright. There are many cool things to come.

Still Not Constantinople: Why they changed it, I can’t say.

PHB: What does the future hold for Poptropica and Suit Up Games? Will the Poptropica brand develop further beyond the game โ€” for example with Poptropica Junior, potential animated series, and expansion of the graphic novels?

Jon: Regarding Suit Up Games, we have more games in the pipeline, and we’re excited about what will be coming up next. I wish I could share more, but you’ll see! For Poptropica, we’ve just recently moved to Coolmath Games, so we are not ready to make any big moves. Our clients that work with us to create Poptropica games are still engaged in conversations with us, so the door is open to possibilities. We are keeping our perspectives open to what makes the most sense for our studio and our audience.

PHB: What are you most proud of having achieved with Poptropica?

Jon: I’m sincerely grateful to have been part of the team that helped create and supported the growth of Poptropica. During the first couple months I got to illustrate the Underworld scenes for Mythology Island, and I created a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs mini game experience. It didn’t take me long to realize how cool it is to be a Poptropica Creator. Because my role has been more focused on the branded games that generate revenue for Poptropica, I’ve been in more of a supportive role. While the team has been more like the working parts of the engine, I was like the fuel to help it keep moving. Today I get to be an active part of the character animations in our games so now maybe I’m a piston. Haha.

PHB: Anything else you want to share with Poptropicans everywhere?

Jon: Keep having fun on Poptropica. Six years ago, the phrase “Poptropica Forever” came to my mind and our team kept this focus as we continued to figure out how we’d keep this legacy going. As you keep playing and having fun, who knows what the future will bring for Poptropica? Stick around and weโ€™ll find out.

Not a Nursing Home: It’s a retirement community!

Thanks, Jon, for all that you do for Poptropica, and sharing your insights with us! Though Poptropica isn’t ready for more updates now, we’re hopeful about how the door remains open for future possibilities.

If you liked this post, you may also enjoy other interviews we’ve done with various Poptropica Creators, such as Jess Brallier, Mitch Krpata (twice), Abhi Arya, and the team collectively. Keep on poppin’ on!

Fanfic: Zombies, Zombies, ALWAYS ZOMBIES! ๐ŸงŸ Ep. 19: Cheese and Crackers

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Magic Kid. Enjoy!

Howdy! I have randomly appeared yet again with another episode in: Zombies, Zombies, ALWAYS ZOMBIES!

Alrighty, if you’re new here and wanna start from the beginning, reach the very first episode here. But if you just need to catch the last one, you can read the previous one here!

As I planned for this story to have around 20 episodes, we’re nearing its end. Iโ€™d advise you to sit back and enjoy this while you can! Maybe get some snacksโ€” not a blueberry smoothie, of course! XD

ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES, ALWAYS ZOMBIES!

A Zomberry Series

Episode Nineteen: Cheese and Crackers

Toothpick was at a desk, sorting files. The monotonous task of it seemed even more so with his almost robot-like movements.

He was in a large room with white walls, bright lights, and a small field of desks. Nearly every desk had some sort of half-zombied workers doing something, whether it was typing away at a keyboard, keeping an eye on the live recording of survivors, or some other form of service to Mr. Gambitโ€™s (formerly known as Samuel Brains, in case you missed that episode) Zomberry empire.

They were all as busy as bees.

Worker 1

Finished scanning files A-C! Will now scan files D-G!

Worker 2

Halfway through the task!

Well, they were all as busy as mind-controlled and half-zombied bees.

The files that Toothpick was sorting were all sorts of random documents and folders, one with statistics, one about finance, one about the locations picked to plant the blueberry smoothie machines. Each one was pretty interesting and/or out of date.

But this boring, seemingly uninteresting situation is about to get a little more compelling.

The double-doors banged open. The few workers who glanced up saw Agent Thorn (aka Anita) walking briskly throughย  a row of desks.

She walked past the desks near a small table in the back, where she stopped and turned around. No one was looking at what she was doing. Good.

And the winner of the Favorite Poptropica Island Tournament is…

This is it, Poptropicans! After weeks of rallying and tallying, we have the winner of the Favorite Poptropica Island Tournament! ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ†

Is the number one fan-favorite island Astro-Knights Island or Mythology Island (Classic)? With 72.4% of the votes, the winner is…

ASTRO-KNIGHTS ISLAND!

Yes, Astro-Knights Island is the most beloved Poptropica adventure, and what’s not to love? Astro Knights takes medieval story tropes and gives them a sci-fi twist, creating an out-of-this-world adventure with beloved characters and fun gameplay. ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿฐ

After tallying the final batch of votes, we reached out to some famous Poptropicans for their feedback on the results. Mordred was kind enough to send a follow-up message to Astro-Knights fans:

Humans, machines, those other or betweenโ€”

The votes are scored, the voices have spoken. At last, I’ve once again found victory! Though some certain “Creators” wish other, before me even a god has fallen!

True, some credit must go to Arturusโ€” and, to my disgust, to the royalty. That aside, as the eons shall teach us, for progress, steps back are necessary.

Even if that land has been cast away, you here have all proven your loyalty! No matter how many, how viciously, the enemies of those gods must be slain.
Zeus, you’ve lost your claim to infiniโ€”

โ€”Mordred from Astro-Knights Island

Hmm, I wonder what else Mordred wanted to say? Although we never heard back from Zeus, we received a message from Princess Elyana of Arturus! Here’s what she had to say:

A message to Poptropica,

My family and I thank you for the support you have shown to the kingdom of Arturus! It warms our hearts to see that you have not forgotten us in spite of our absence.

We hope to officially return some day. Until that day comes, there is a way to revisit Arturus and other places like it. ‘Tis truly amazing technology used for good. I hope it stays that way…

Once again, thank you for your support! It means the universe to us!

โ€”Princess Elyana from Astro-Knights Island

And now one last message from us at the Poptropica Help Blog: “Thank you for following the Favorite Poptropica Island Tournament!” It’s been so much fun reading your comments and reminiscing on old islands. In a time when the game’s future is uncertain, events like these bring the community together. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ˜Š

What do you think of the results? What’s your personal favorite island? What kind of tournament do you want to see in the future? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Thank you for voting, and have a good day!

Fanfic: Seven Systems ๐Ÿช Part 3: The Eye of the Storm

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by HeartOfEnder. Enjoy!

Welcome to Part 3 of Seven Systems! (Read Part 1 here, and Part 2 here.) Now that we have the basic background of the story explained, itโ€™s time for the action.

As a bit of recap, the Red Queen has conquered the seven systems, captured the Astro Knights, and is searching for the fourth Astro Knight. Rumor has it the Baron has started a secret resistance, and Tempest forms an alliance she doesnโ€™t want to make with Rumpel, of all people, to find the Baron andโ€ฆ hopefully save the seven systems.ย

THE SEVEN SYSTEMS
Part Three: The Eye of the Storm
(Continued from Part 2)

The Baron-less airship soars through the skies of Poptropica for days and weeks, passing through various islands that havenโ€™t seen travelers and adventurers in years. There are islands of all kinds, from ones inhabited by 8-bit people, ones made out of cogs and copper, and ones covered in snow.ย

After weeks of traveling, the airship docks on Astro-Knights Island, where knights in black patrol the kingdom of Arturus.

RUMPEL, disguised as a normal Poptropican, looks outside.

RUMPEL:

Oooh, that queen must really want this fourth knight if she has so many of her knights stationed out here.
