Popular Poptropican: MaryannTheConqueror

Howdy doodly Poptropicans, it’s LJ back with the another Popular Poptropican interview. This time I’ll be interviewing one of our newest authors, Maryann โ€” the mastermind behind this year’s April Fools’ prank, resident Bard stan, and creator of the fan fiction “The Villain Saga”.

1. What do you enjoy about blogging with the PHB?

Besides having an incredible and friendly team, I just like being able to participate so much in this community! Many fans including myself have looked up to it as basically the center of the Pop Fandom, and I’m very honored to be a part of it now after years of reading it.

2. What advice would you give to aspiring bloggers or writers in general that you wish you had starting out?

This is definitely connected to my personal experience, but don’t be afraid of waiting a bit to achieve your goals โ€” whether they be starting a fan blog, publishing a book, or anything of the sort. I really wanted to write Pop blogs during the time I was too young to be on social media, and it made me feel like a failure. If you start writing a series and it doesn’t get the attention you hoped it would, or life gets in the way of starting that really cool project, it’s okay to focus on smaller things to hone your craft until you’re ready.

3. What is your favorite island and villain?

Oh wow. This is a toughie. Hmmmm….HMMMOkay, but in all seriousness I’m not exactly the most subtle about this on the PHC or even here! The answer is of course Astro Knights and Binary Bard! That part of Pop has continued to influence my interests and creative projects to this day, and I will fight for more Poptropica representation of Mordred because he is the most interesting and well-written and that is a hill I will die on.

4. What challenge in the game has been the hardest to complete in your opinion?

I’ve never been the best at puzzles. I had to rely on guides for basically every single island! That being said, Virus Hunter was probably the most grueling. While Skullduggery had the repetitive trading and Astro-Knights the notorious boss battles, Virus Hunter had something they didn’t–really horrible glitches. I’m not sure if it was just me, but the bugs in that island nearly made it impossible for me, and ten times more frustrating than the usual hard island!

5. What is your favorite feature (still here or gone) from the many years of Poptropica?

I just love the little additions in different islands, such as the flying in Super Power or that sweet elevator music in Night Watch. And of course being able to just fly around in your rocket in Astro Knights even after completing the island. I wouldn’t say I have a favorite, I just like anything that makes the world feel more interactive, even if it doesn’t add much story wise!

6. What is your favorite Poptropica item?

I really like the Capes N’ Cowls costume set. It’s cool to see animated costume pieces, and I even have one on my character! (Honorable mention to the Mordred-Princess outfit because it’s perty.)

7. What is your favorite Poptropica easter egg/secret/reference?

Okay, I’m just gonna say the Mocktropica trash bin characters (actually scrap that how about just ALL of Mocktropica) because it’s obvious, but another thing I really enjoyed finding during my digging through the Creator’s blog was all the extra bits of villain backstories you can find during the 2011 Villain Showdown. It’s almost a bit sad how some of those parts of their stories usually never got brought up again.

Happy weekend, Poptropicans! The Pop Creators’ Instagram stories have been popping with previews and fan art. Let’s take a look!

First, they dropped some hype for the Candy Crazed Mini Quest, which is dropping next Thursday, May 27. They also posted a reminder for the Fairytale Fanfic Challenge deadline, which has now passed as of this PHB post. But hey, we’ll have some literary talent to look forward to!

Following that, we have a series of fantastic fan art featuring all sorts of Poptropica characters old, new, and invented. Enjoy!

That’s all for this update. Check out our posts below to catch up on other news from this week, from new items across the stores to Pop music highlights to more fan art features! Keep on popping on, Poptropicans.

Be our guest for this sweet new quest ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ

Hey, Poptropicans! The Creators suddenly announced a brand new mini quest coming soon to Poptropica.

Go crazy for the Candy Crazed Mini Quest! Here’s a sweet peek at the upcoming quest which supposedly ties into Fairytale Island:

The announcement also revealed two new characters who will be making their debut in this quest. Meet chewy chums Dot and Gummy! While they may not be major characters in the story, they are cute faces who help liven the sugary atmosphere. Who wants one of these guys as a follower?

It’s strange that a new mini quest was announced just one week after the release of the Lost Cubs Mini Quest. The promo art is super cute and colorful, but how will the finished product play out? Will it be a sweet surprise or a terrible toothache? We will find out for ourselves when this mini quest comes out next week on Thursday, May 27!

The Creatorsโ€™ Blog also put out another call for guest writers. Do you love Poptropica and want to share your love with other fans? This time, the Creators are allowing guest writers to submit more than just their writing. Guests can also submit their fan art and fan videos, too!

If you are at least 13 years old, feel free to apply through Pop’s official Submissions page. Let the Creators know what you can contribute to the official Poptropica Creators’ Blog. You can submit anything as long as it relates to Poptropica.

If writing for the Creators’ Blog isn’t your thing, then you could submit a guest post to us here at the Poptropica Help Blog! There’s no age limit for writers, and your work will reach a similar audience of Poptropica players. You can learn more by visiting our Write for the PHB page.

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Artistic additions, instant and imminent ๐ŸŽจ

As we in the Northern Hemisphere pass through spring (and allergy season…it’s not nice being allergic to almost every native plant where I live!) and reach the end of the school season, many Poptropica fans have more time to be creative! The Creators have recently showcased 15 new fan drawings on their Instagram story, which you can see here.

We have several Fairytale Island fanarts, as well as crossovers with Pop and other games! It’s nice to see this burst of creativity in the fandom, especially while we wait for updates on the other Dream Island Contest winners.

On a similar note, the Creators have also posted a reminder that the Fairytale Fanfic Challenge ends this Friday, so if any of you are still interested in participating or are still finishing up your works, keep that in mind!

And that ends all the news for today! Good luck to all your artistic endeavors, whether they be prose or pictures!

Think this music has a nice Ring to it ๐ŸŽถ

What’s that melodious music playing throughout our island adventures? That’s the topic of the latest guest post on the Creators’ Blog, brought to you by one not-so-unseen Invisible Ring.

As Ring shares, you can find a huge library of Poptropica music freely available on composer Jeff Heim’s Soundcloud playlist. Give it a listen:

Here on the PHB, we’ve been fans of Jeff Heim’s popping tunes for quite some time. PHB readers even voted his Monster Carnival Main Theme for Best Soundtrack in our first ever Poppies fan awards event back in 2015, plus Jeff Heim was the first Pop Creator to ever comment on the PHB in all its years of existence. Lots of love to our man Jeff! ๐Ÿ’™

Anyway, back to the guest post. Ring writes, “I used to revisit Mystery of the Map, Monkey Wrench, and other islands again and again just to hear those sweet sounds!” Though most of the islands are now gone until further notice, Heim’s Soundcloud preserves much of their musical memory. (And there’s more on the PHB’s Music page, too!)

You might also recognize this karaoke party scene from Invisible Ring’s Party Clubhouse Tour she shared on the PHB a while back. In case you missed it, she’s also shared a castle and regular room from her clubhouse. Incredibly, a fourth one is on its way, so stay tuned for that!

On the same day, the Creators’ Blog also dropped a sentimental post for Thinknoodles, the longtime Poptropica YouTuber, and his recent release of an OG-style Fairytale Island playthrough. The PHB covered this a few days ago, but in case you missed it, check out the vid below:

It’s a little amusing to see the Creators gushing so hard with sentences like, “Please tell us we’re not the only ones that are starstruck! ๐Ÿคฉ” One might wonder how this could possibly be the same Creators team who just last week forgot about Betty Jetty, an iconic villain from Super Power Island. Are they compensating? ๐Ÿ˜‰

But the praises for Thinknoodles also offer some hope that perhaps there are still some OG Pop Creators around who understand what made the game so special, which has been a concern among the fandom particularly since the involuntary exodus of several talented Creators in 2018 and the questionable direction of the game ever since.

And yet, our unnamed blogger from Pop HQ boldly claims, “…to think the best is still yet to come! ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’™”

We certainly hope so, Poptropica.
