Financial crisis hits Poptropica

Inflation
Now more expensive!

All the prices at the Poptropica Store have just been raised by 75 more credits! (Thanks for the update, Green Seal and Cool Wing.) Costumes used to be 75 credits each, but are now being sold for 150; while items from the ”Cool Stuff” section used to be 250 each, but are now worth 325 credits. Many Poptropica players at the PHF and PHB are saying that this is a rip-off and a big tragedy!

The reason that prices have risen is most likely because the Poptropica Creators want/need to make more money, and to get people to spend their cash on Poptropica Credits in order to help pay for their jobs. Although it may seem unfair to the players, don’t worry: it’s not the end of the world!

Also, Motionman95 and Codien seem to have secretly found a way to view item SWF cards in full form, but they’re not saying how to do this for now. The ”Party Room” that many players had earlier discovered is called Multiverse, discovered by Codien and shown by Incredible Fish on our forum. Motionman95 shares a card for an unreleased ”Quiz Game” and ”Teleporter Fuse” he’d found. Maybe they’ll tell us more in the near future!

Yikes, it seems that they’re at the dumpster with someone’s missing keys! Must be another mishap in the unfortunate life of Ned Noodlehead. Thanks for the news about the sneak peek (shown below), Obiwan2324!

The story below is a sequel chapter to the โ€œSoaring Highโ€ chapter from a previous post on the PHB. Please note that the story below is a work of fiction; written by the PHB Team to entertain its readers. Enjoy!

The Old but New Adventures of Comic Kid
Ned Noodlehead by day, Comic Kid hero by night.

Chapter 5
Trashy Day

Ned Noodlehead decided to take a breakย from hiking, so he went back down the hill and walked downtown, where he was hoping to get some lunch after being unsuccessful in grabbing some seagulls’ eggs. He walked around the island central, considering all the restaurant possibilities. ”Yo, Comic boy, over here!” called a voice to the side. Ned Noodlehead spun around, staring at the little crowd that had gathered before him. ”How did –?” he began, but was cut off by his adoring fans. ”Noodlehead, I’m a big fan of yours!” ”I heard that you saved an island from dangerous criminals!” ”Your comics rock, man!”

”Gee, thanks.” Ned grinned about his sudden fame among the citizens of the strange island. A kid wearing a ”Brief Encounters” T-shirt with Comic Kid’s face on it shouted, ”Can I have your autograph?” Less than a second later, he was surrounded with dozens of pens and papers. Ned tried to sign as many as he could, but his hand soon got tired. ”Guys, thanks a lot, but I really gotta run. I haven’t had lunch yet!”

Another fan, who was wearing a puppy dog costume, tapped his shoulder. ”Oh, you’ll love the Cartoon Dog. They’ve got lots of tasty stuff there. C’mon, I’ll show you.” She led the way to a building with a hand-drawn sign reading ”The Cartoon Dog: Taste the comics!” The screaming mob of fans followed them inside, but the puppy-costumed girl didn’t seem to mind. ”Table for two, please,” she told the waitress standing at the front. The waitress, who was wearing a white uniform, smiled and showed them their seats. Meanwhile, the rest of the fans had finally realized that it wasn’t necessary to hog up all the restaurant’s space, helped by the manager who had to take them all outside.ย The restaurant managerย winked at Ned.

”My name’s Comical Dog.” She reached her hand out, so Ned shook it. ”I’m Ned–” ”Oh, you don’t need to tell me who you are. Everyone here knows you; you’re the superhero who saved Super Power Island. Ned Noodlehead, am I right?” ”Yeah,” laughed Ned, very pleased to know that others knew about his heroic efforts. ”But I couldn’t have done it without a very special Poptropican!” This day is going so well!, thought NN, thinking that good fortune was finally entering his life.

After a pleasant meal with lots and lots of cookies, Ned Noodlehead sat back, declaring that his stomach was now very well-fed. He managed to resist a satisfied burp, just when Comical Dog volunteered to pay for the meal. ”That’s kind of you,” offered Ned. ”Thanks,” replied Dog, looking down at their table. ”Hmm, we seem to have made quite a mess with our leftover cookie crumbs.” She chuckled and picked them up with a tissue. ”There’s a dumpster out at the back; let’s go.” So Noodlehead followed Comical Dog out of the restaurant.

A ghastly smell filled the atmosphere as they stepped closer towards the dumpster. ”Ick,” gagged NN. ”Don’t worry, kid,” smiled Dog, who was now standing right in front of what Ned called ”the boxย with bad smells”. She tossed the wrapped tissue with crumbs inside the dumpster, then said, ”Sorry, Comic guy. I have to get home now. See you around!” ”Bye,” croaked Ned, feeling unable to smell the stench for much longer. Comical Dog jogged away, and Ned decided to leave to.

It was only when he’d arrived back at the front of his comic shop in Super Power Island did he realize that he’d forgotten his keys. Without them, he couldn’t unlock the door to his store. Oh no, oh no, oh no! He remembered placing them on the Cartoon Dog restaurant table, as he was explaining to Comical Dog about his comic shop. ”Nooooooo….!!” wailed Ned Noodlehead. Comical Dog had thrown his keys away!

And so this was how he came to be down in the dumps for the rest of the day. (Thanks for the joke, Cool Wing!)

Blog Post Title: Trashy Day
Description: My day was going so well until I realized that my keys were missing. The last time I remember having them was at lunch, when I threw my leftovers away. I’m afraid they’re probably in the big dumpster out back.

Poptropican’s 911: Issue #2

It’s time to kick off the month of July 2009 with another issue of the PHB’s Poptropican’s 911 newsletter! You’ll get to learn how to play any room on Astro-Knights Island in full-screen, read some cool talesย about courageous Poptropicans, admire awesome artwork, and lots more! So, let’s go ahead and…

Enter the realm of Issue #2!

Also, the Poptropica Help Blog’s ”Poptropica Poll” has been updated! Our latest question reads, ”Reality TV Island is coming this summer! I’m most excited about:” followed by some cool answers, so take your time voting!

June 2009’s poll question was, ”How many credits do you own (on a single/main Poptropica account)?” Here are the results:

Option | Votes | Percentage
None, I spent them all. | 519 | 22%
25 – 75 | 443 | 19%
100 – 475 | 653 | 28%
500 – 575 | 118 | 5%
600 – 775 | 121 | 5%
800 – 975 | 187 | 8%
1000+ | 301 | 13%

You can now rate any of the PHB’s posts or pages with awesome blue stars! At the bottom of every post and page, you’ll find 5 stars with a ”Rate This” sign next to them. (Note: For posts, you have to click on it to actually see the rating section, because it doesn’t show on the homepage.) To rate our pages/posts, simply hover your cursor over the stars and select how many you’d like to rate us (out of a possible 5). One is the worst; five is the best; and you can see what each number of stars stand for when you hover over that amount. Here’s the list:

  • One star = Very Poor
  • Two stars = Poor
  • Three stars = Average
  • Four stars = Good
  • Five stars = Excellent

Once you’ve decided how well we’ve written a post or page, click on the stars to submit your rating. A ”Thank You” will appear for a brief moment, then it will show you the average rating of the post/page from everyone who has ever rated there. Next to it, it will show you how many people have rated the post/page. If you try to rate again, but with a different star level, it will be saved over your first one. If you try to rate again, but with the same star level, it will not add one more to the number of votes.

So, please send us your valued feedback! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hide the fishies!

News flash! RawrDude reports that Poptropicans everywhere are falling under the power of the mysterious Phantom and are vanishing into thin air! One moment you see them, and the next thing you know they’re gone. For some people, it’s not as strong; but for others, they look as if they’ve seen a ghost! There are different levels of transparency for different people, but who knows what kind of Phantom could be trying to take over Poptropica??
The Phantom [of the Opera] is here!
The Phantom (of the Opera) is here!

ย

No, no, not him!

So, if you wish to maybe disappear for a while, the price is only 250 credits ($2.50 US) at the Poptropica Store. It’s in the Cool Stuff section, and it’s awesome; you can even choose how visible/invisible you want to be —

Wait, what are you saying? Too expensive? Well, don’t leave yet, there’s more. For just 75 credits ($o.75 US), female characters are able to purchase the grand, purple Gothic Cheerleader costume! Remember the Cheerleader costume a few days ago? โ™ชCheerfulPandaโ™ซ has kindly provided us with a list of similarities and differences between the two, so you can decide which one you’d like to buy!

The Gothic Cheerleaderโ€™s action is that she has that angry emoticon (not the one where your head turns red & flys in midair!) I also compared and contrasted the 2 cheerleader outfits:

Original has the following:
blush on her face
pink lips (smiling)
the letter P (for Poptropica) for the outfit design
yellow pom-pom
comes in 3 colors=red, blue and purple

Same=
hairstyle: pigtails
outfit appearance (excluding design)
pom-pom

Difference=
Gothic has the following:
skull earrings
front hairpiece
โ€œbagsโ€ in her eyes
purple lips (obviously NOT smiling)
skull design on outfit
purple pom-pom
comes in 1 color

Thanks also goes to Director Lion (Gentle Lion) for informing us about this costume being added and that there is currently a Froot Loops sidebar ad for younger players (aged 6, 7, or 8). It is advertising FrootLoops.com, where you can ”help Toucan Sam save breakfast from the FrootOctopus”!

Also, check out VladtheViking’s updated Poptropica Tour video! It has now been uploaded to YouTube, but not updated at the Poptropica.com homepage yet… ๐Ÿ˜› The title is ”Poptropica Tour: Summer 2009”, and includes Astro-Knights, but not Reality TV Island. Orange Tummy noted that it’s still not very updated, because the old Games Icon is still on the top-right corner for all the island previews, except Astro-Knights, which has the old Poptropica Store symbol.

Wow, take a look at these sea animals! According to Lazy Feather, this was once posted on Nate Greenwall’s blog (a Poptropica Creator whose other identity is Shark Boy) but was taken off one day. Well, that makes sense: Sharks can be found in this aquarium. There are also two crabs that look like the one from Time Tangled Island, as well as some littler fishies, two seahorses, a snail, and a submarine.

One of the pictures on one of Nate’s blogs showsย him in his office, using the computer. This mysterious aquarium, which is currently not released on Poptropica.com (if it was even meant for Poptropica, which it looks like it was), is on his screen. (For more information, click here.)

Notice how it’s got three floors, like a Main Street multiplayer room usually has. This may have been Shark Tooth’s multiplayer roomย until they decided to use a Coconut Cafe instead (maybe; but we’re not sure), or as MoNKeYTaCoZ suggests, possibly the one for Reality TV Island? Bony Melon reckons it could be one of theย upcoming Party Rooms, such as the one shown with pink crystals. Anyway, click on the picture to view the full picture!

Robots, balloons, and a visit to Time Tangled

R----

Robot
I am a robot.

Well, Mr./Ms. Robot, maybe you need something to go with that accent! Try on these brand-new suits,ย now available for 75 credits each at the Poptropica Store (Thanks, Incredible Fish):

In order from left to right, here are the names of each outfit:

Topย Row

  • Xenon Trooper
  • Retro Robot
  • Sky Hawk Warrior
  • Space Sentry

Bottom Row

  • Karate Master (Girls only; comes in violet, blue, or red)
  • Karate Master (Boys only; comes in red, black, or blue)
  • Cheerleader (Girls only; comes in red, blue, or violet)

Also, we seem to have found Binary Bard’s Poptropica account! (Thanks to many of you who helped to point this out.) Using Motionman95‘s Poptropica Image Generator, we’ve found that Binary Bard (a Poptropica Creator who posts on the PCB) has his own personal account on Poptropica (which he probably used to spread the mechanical flu), and his login username is “binarybard”!

http://www.coderkid.co.cc/PoptropicaPHP.php?login=BinaryBard

You can tell that this account belongs to a Creator because of the Poptropican name – “Binary Bard”. This would not be possible for a regular player. Other notes for this account: it’s wearing the Binary Bard’s jester clothing from Astro-Knights Island,ย along with the half-metal face, red cyborg eye, and huge grin. He’s also holding the nunchuk handheld item, which can be found on the ninja costume (purchasable at the Poptropica Store).

To spice things up a little, the Poptropica Creators will soon be adding balloons to the Poptropica Store, which you’ll be able to create! Thanks for the news report, Agdogr1997 (Super Grape). Take a look at the video below for a cool idea of what they’re like:

As you can see, there will be several options for these balloons, including a pink heart, yellow smiley face, and a red-and-black ladybug! Also, Deathstalker found something very interesting:

http://static.poptropica.com/items/item3041.swf

These cute floating shapes are going to be called “Emotaloons”! (Probably from the words emote and balloon) There will be a “Create” button on its item card so that you can edit your Emotaloon. The description for this item is, “Express yourself with your own Emotaloon!” You can also see that they will be a Poptropica Store item because of the starry background on the item card.

Planning on taking a little holiday soon? Tours at Time Tangled Island seem to be all the rage these days! VladtheViking has generously provided all of us with an absolutely awesome video showing a trailer of this twisted island, complete with twinkling music! (Thanks, Obiwan2324) Check it out:

Astro-Knights Island seems quite popular too, according to the current poll at the Poptropica Creators’ Blog. Here are the approximate results (may vary later because the poll isn’t over yet):

Option |ย Number of Votes | Percentage
Early Poptropica | 83 | 1%
Shark Tooth | 87 | 1%
Time Tangled | 170 | 3%
24 Carrot | 96 | 1%
Super Power | 264 | 5%
Spy | 467 | 9%
Nabooti | 125 | 2%
Astro-Knights | 3483 | 70%

If you would like your name acknowledged in our blog posts for telling us about new news, you can help out by posting a topic about a new update in the “Poptropica Updates” section of our Poptropica Help Forum.
