POPCORN, the PHB magazine: Winter 2016 issue!

Hey Poptropicans, the butter is back! 😀🍿

The Winter 2016 issue, #33 of our Poptropica fan magazine, is now ready for viewing. Check out the winter 2016 issue now! (Or download it to read offline!)

This season’s issue features Silver Wolf on the cover, a longtime Poptropica blogger and a respected staff member of the PHC. She is best known for heading the Poptropica blog Poptropica Tips for Poptropicans (PTFP), which has been around since 2012 (that’s 4 years now!), and is the recipient of this issue’s Fansite Spotlight! Without further ado, here is the magazine:

Although Silver Wolf, or Wolfy, chooses not to share her username publicly, you can often find her on the PHC, and possibly even a Multiverse party. Moving forward, the PHB would like to continue to focus on giving the cover spotlight in our Popcorn issues to noteworthy Poptropicans who may not necessarily be PHB bloggers (though they can be), yet are active in our community.

We’re always interested in seeing your Poptropica fan work, whether they are stories, art, or other cool creations. For your chance to have them selected for the next magazine, be sure to submit them to our DeviantArt group! While we may not select every entry for the magazine, just posting them online will give your work some exposure and the chance to have them chosen.

Anyway, enjoy this winter issue of The POPCORN! (Well, summer for southern hemisphere dwellers.) To read past issues, check out the PHB’s Magazines page.

🐠 Stay popping, Poptropicans! 🐠

POPCORN, the PHB magazine: Summer 2016 issue!

Hey Poptropicans, the butter is back! 😀

The Summer 2016 issue, #31 of our Poptropica fan magazine, is now ready for viewing. Check out the summer 2016 issue now! (Or download it to read offline!)

This season’s issue features Mighty Gamer on the cover, a longtime Poptropican (you can read her story here) who recently joined the PHB staff. Her Poptropica blog, Explore Collect Compete, is featured in this issue. In addition, she was recently featured in a Community Celebrity interview here on the PHB, which you can check out to get to know her better! Anyway, here is the magazine:

Also featured in this issue is the prelude chapter to the now-cancelled PHB story series, Giant Hawk Adventures, titled An Afternoon at Queequeg’s. Because this series is no longer continuing, its PHB page has been removed from our navigational bar, but you are able to read the story in this issue.

For more information about the recent changes made to the POPCORN publications, you can read our last POPCORN announcement. We always encourage more Poptropica fan work, whether that be stories, art, or other cool creations – for your chance to have them selected for the magazine, be sure to submit them to our our subreddit and DeviantArt! While we may not choose every entry, just posting them will give your work some exposure and the chance to have them chosen.

Anyway, enjoy this summer issue of The POPCORN! To read past issues, check out the PHB’s Magazines page. Stay popping, Poptropicans! 🐠🐠

POPCORN, the PHB magazine: Spring 2016 issue!

Hey Poptropicans, the butter is back!😀

As you may recall from our last POPCORN announcement, our PHB magazines are now being published seasonally. The spring 2016 issue, #30 of our Poptropica fan magazine, is now ready for viewing. Check out the spring 2016 issue now! (Or download it to read offline!)

These issues are still available as downloadable PDFs, but you may notice a few small stylistic changes – most notably, the Featured Poptropican on the cover! In the past, I’ve just used my (Slanted Fish’s) Poptropican, but that’s boring after a while. This season’s issue features Cobalt Spinner, our newest PHB author and longtime Poptropican (you can read his story here). A couple of selected artworks in this issue are of his character’s impeccable design.

Henceforth, like many magazines, each new cover will feature a different Poptropican from the community! They will be selected by me, the editor of this magazine, on the grounds that this Poptropican has had a significant role in the community, preferably with some connection to the issue of the magazine they are featured on. Please understand that there are many wonderful individuals out there, far more than there are issues of The POPCORN, so don’t take it personally if you aren’t featured on the cover. You can have your chance to be featured within the magazine by submitting stories, art, and more to our subreddit and DeviantArt!

Which brings us to another point of change: in the past, we have pretty much admitted any work that was sent to us into the magazine. Sometimes, however, this would make the magazines rather long, and the quality of work varied. In order to be more consistent with length and quality, we are now limiting the amount of work that makes the final cut. Again, please don’t take it too hard if your work isn’t chosen – with our subreddit and DeviantArt sharing platforms, it is easier than ever to have your work publicized, even if it doesn’t make it into the magazine.

There’s another new section as well: Fansite Spotlight! We’ll be using The POPCORN to highlight notable works that other Poptropicans in this community are doing, to help them reach a wider audience for all the good work they’re up to. This spotlight isn’t necessarily limited to fansites, and may include other projects as well. You’ll have to peek into this issue to see where the first spotlight shines!

Anyway, enjoy this spring issue of The POPCORN! To read past issues, check out the PHB’s Magazines page. Stay popping, Poptropicans! 🐠🐠

POPCORN #29 (plus changes!) & GHA short

Hey Poptropicans, the butter is back! 😀

Issue #29 of our Poptropica fan magazine, known as The POPCORN, has just been released, with all sorts of Poptropica fan creations, including a few prison stories inspired by Escape From Pelican Rock, artwork by Popular Wolf, and more! As usual, this is available as a PDF.

Check out the January 2016 issue now! (Or download it to read offline!)

With the new year, we’re also considering some changes to The POPCORN. In the past, we have generally been accepting of most every entry that gets sent in, but this means that the length of each issue tends to fluctuate, along with quality varying from entry to entry. In order to keep up, we may no longer guarantee inclusion of everything in the magazines, but instead encourage you to share in other places on the web for people to check out.

In particular, we’d like to emphasize using our Poptropica Help subreddit, our mini-forum for posting all sorts of Poptropica tidbits. No matter where on the web you like to post your stories, fan art, comics, costumes, island ideas, and whatever else you can think of – whether it’s on our We-Love-Poptropica deviantArt group or even a text post on the subreddit itself – you can link to it on Reddit! You can even link to other Poptropicans’ creations to share them with everyone!

subreddit

As part of our desire to cultivate more consistent and quality magazines, we will also be posting them seasonally – about 4 issues a year. To see (and make!) more stories and art, get plugged into our subreddit year-round! It’s very simple to use and is a great hotbed for creativity.

Anyway, you can enjoy this issue and all the past issues over on our Magazines page. Leave your comments on subreddit postings to let people know you appreciate their work, and be sure to share some of your favorites from around the web so we can check them out!

Speaking of stories, the prequel short to Giant Hawk Adventures (that’s the Poptropica fanfic series by Giant Hawk here on the PHB), An Afternoon at Queequeg’s, was just released! Read it now!

AnAfternoonAtQueequeg's

You may have noticed the new “GHA” tab on the top navigational bar of the PHB. That’s where new installments of the Giant Hawk Adventures will be posted, so keep an eye out for more of those! 🙂

Stay popping, Poptropicans. 😉

Hope you enjoy our pop-pop-Poptropica Help Network fan magazine and the GHA short!
