The Official Guide to Poptropica!

It’s EP here for a new post. How’s everyone doing? Cruising? Enjoying the summer? That’s nice! I’m almost too lazy today to get out of my video game lounge playing meh xbox to type up a new post :P. But here it goes, the creators have announced the official guide to Poptropica.

Merchandising for the game was hinted some time ago, around a year, in a post on this blog about future products like backpacks and books. I don’t remember who posted it or how they got to it, but I remember the clue was inside a post about a news article on the web interviewing someone that worked on Poptropica. Well, now it’s finally here! Check it out:

Announcing the Poptropica guidebook!

It’s true: Poptropica: The Official Guideis coming! This full-color guidebook contains walkthroughs for most Poptropica Islands, behind-the-scenes looks at how an Island is made, and quotes from the Poptropica Creators. Poptropica: The Official Guide will be released on October 13. For a special sneak preview, visit the Poptropica guidebook page on Amazon.com for a special preview: an interview with Jeff Kinney, Poptropica creator and Diary of a Wimpy Kid author!

October 13th??? Whatttttt? Are they not done editing it or publishing it or something? We’ll have to wait months before we can get an actual copy of this book. I can’t wait to find out what’s inside. I don’t know if they’d include island guides, but maybe only tips and info on the islands. A guide might spoil the fun and surprise perhaps.

On the cover of the book is a Poptropican swinging on a rope…don’t fall. I just felt like saying that ;). The cover also shows various Poptropica characters and a location situated on Mythology Island. You can get read an exclusive interview with Jeff Kinney on the amazon webpage. Cannot wait to obtain my own copy of this book now :). What do you think? Will you buy it? Comment below.

My head is on fire!

Lighten up, lad!
”Arghh! Yeowwwww! Help me! Save me head… oh!” The little boy’s cries of agony echoed through the underground temple of Shark Tooth Island. He knew his parents had warned him not to play with fire, but he just couldn’t resist! Unfortunately, a ”small accident” had caused his whole body to go up in flames, and he was burning fast now. His head was the first part to catch on fire, and in a few seconds had melted his hair away, leaving him bald. He now wore a nice crown of fire on top of his head, and the rest of his body was glowing orange from head to toe. Oh, will he ever be saved, or will this poor kid be left to —

Oof! A purple dungeon bat knocked him down into the water below the ledge he was standing on. It was terribly salty and dirty water, and the little boy also remembered being warned by his parents not to go swimming down there (whoops, too late!). But amazingly, the horror of the flames were gone! He was saved! The boy vowed never to mess with fire again. As should all of you Poptropicans! 😀

Thanks for this update, Incredible Fish. We don’t know much about this fire-body power, but it’s most likely going to be a new Poptropica Store item coming soon in the Cool Stuff section. Don’t forget, there will also be an astronaut suit coming to the store next week! (See the post below for more information.)

Apparently, a day or so ago, prices in the Poptropica Store had gone down just after they had gone up. Thanks for the update, Green Seal. When the store first opened, costumes were 75 credits each and Cool Stuff items were 250 credits each. However, on July 15 they had gone up: costumes had become 150 each and Cool Stuff things were 325 credits. A day later they were back at original price. But apparently, they were lowered by a lot recently: Cool Stuff was 175 and Special Costumes were 25 each!

Golden Eagle suggests that they were probably testing out prices to see if they got a surge in sale, but maybe normal was getting the most profit for them. They have now returned to the original price, Cool Stuff being 250 each and Special Costumes are 75 each.

We have moved the ”Commenting Rules” from the About page to a seperate page, which you can find here. Recently, we have also added a ”Contact” page, where you are able to learn new methods of keeping in touch with updates at the PHB. You can find the Contact page here.

By the way, due to going through too much work, our Poptropica Links site will not be used anymore. Repeat: The PHB’s Poptropica Links WordPress blog will not be updated any longer. However, we will continue to update the Poptropica Directory on the PHB – but we won’t be adding new directory listings into our blogroll sidebar, sorry. As a matter of fact, we have now reached over 40 listings in our directory, so click here to check out all the cool webpages!

Blog Notice
Scary Tomato will not be active on the PHB from July 24 to July 28, 2009. I’ll be on vacation and won’t have Internet access for those five days. Hopefully, the rest of our staff will still be posting news updates and stuff!

Unfortunately, I will not be available for the one-year anniversary of Poptropica Help Blog, sorry! But while I’m gone, please don’t wreak havoc and spam the whole site! Smockers and Codien will still be around to catch y’all and send you to prison with Crusher, Ratman, Betty Jetty and the rest of their evil gang. Just kidding… but be safe, readers! 😛

Robots, balloons, and a visit to Time Tangled

R----

Robot
I am a robot.

Well, Mr./Ms. Robot, maybe you need something to go with that accent! Try on these brand-new suits, now available for 75 credits each at the Poptropica Store (Thanks, Incredible Fish):

In order from left to right, here are the names of each outfit:

Top Row

  • Xenon Trooper
  • Retro Robot
  • Sky Hawk Warrior
  • Space Sentry

Bottom Row

  • Karate Master (Girls only; comes in violet, blue, or red)
  • Karate Master (Boys only; comes in red, black, or blue)
  • Cheerleader (Girls only; comes in red, blue, or violet)

Also, we seem to have found Binary Bard’s Poptropica account! (Thanks to many of you who helped to point this out.) Using Motionman95‘s Poptropica Image Generator, we’ve found that Binary Bard (a Poptropica Creator who posts on the PCB) has his own personal account on Poptropica (which he probably used to spread the mechanical flu), and his login username is “binarybard”!

http://www.coderkid.co.cc/PoptropicaPHP.php?login=BinaryBard

You can tell that this account belongs to a Creator because of the Poptropican name – “Binary Bard”. This would not be possible for a regular player. Other notes for this account: it’s wearing the Binary Bard’s jester clothing from Astro-Knights Island, along with the half-metal face, red cyborg eye, and huge grin. He’s also holding the nunchuk handheld item, which can be found on the ninja costume (purchasable at the Poptropica Store).

To spice things up a little, the Poptropica Creators will soon be adding balloons to the Poptropica Store, which you’ll be able to create! Thanks for the news report, Agdogr1997 (Super Grape). Take a look at the video below for a cool idea of what they’re like:

As you can see, there will be several options for these balloons, including a pink heart, yellow smiley face, and a red-and-black ladybug! Also, Deathstalker found something very interesting:

These cute floating shapes are going to be called “Emotaloons”! (Probably from the words emote and balloon) There will be a “Create” button on its item card so that you can edit your Emotaloon. The description for this item is, “Express yourself with your own Emotaloon!” You can also see that they will be a Poptropica Store item because of the starry background on the item card.

Planning on taking a little holiday soon? Tours at Time Tangled Island seem to be all the rage these days! VladtheViking has generously provided all of us with an absolutely awesome video showing a trailer of this twisted island, complete with twinkling music! (Thanks, Obiwan2324) Check it out:

Astro-Knights Island seems quite popular too, according to the current poll at the Poptropica Creators’ Blog. Here are the approximate results (may vary later because the poll isn’t over yet):

Option | Number of Votes | Percentage
Early Poptropica | 83 | 1%
Shark Tooth | 87 | 1%
Time Tangled | 170 | 3%
24 Carrot | 96 | 1%
Super Power | 264 | 5%
Spy | 467 | 9%
Nabooti | 125 | 2%
Astro-Knights | 3483 | 70%
