Happy holidays from the PHB! It’s been a great year and being part of the PHB has been absolutely amazing. You guys really welcomed me and it’s just been really awesome. 😀
Well, it looks like a comic to promote an island, like the Virus Hunter: Pandemic Panic comic series from before. For what island, I’m not sure. However, it does look a bit like the abandoned geological park idea that surfaced in the Daily Pop in July 2013, around the same time sneak peeks for the underground cave island showed up. Could they be related? Will this ever be a complete island?
Disguiser: You might recognize this incognito geological feature.
Rock of Ages: A very faithful bit of old geology.
Range Rovers: The park is in capable hands.
Mouth of Madness: Are you sure you want to step inside?
Pooled Resources: Value is in the eye of the beholder, of course.
Can You Canoe: Hang around a while and you may get a chance.
The Creators also shared this Poptropica Realms sneak peek (see below). The caption: “Just grabbed from a Poptropica Creator’s computer when she snuck out to do some shopping.”
I personally can’t wait for Poptropica Realms! 😛 In the meantime, members can still play with Poptropica Land – and if you need a guide, we’ve got one right here!
Hey guys! Just a quick post to let everyone know that the sound-updated Shrink Ray Island (SUI) will be out for everyone on December 4, which is this Thursday! If you’re having a little trouble, check out our Shrink Ray Island Guide. Plus, remember that the Shrink Ray (gun) is now free in the Store! 😀
The Creators have also released yet another piece of Poptropica art on Twitter (click to enlarge):
It’s a bit more difficult to tell what this is for. Along with the image, the Creators tweeted: “Behind-the-scenes at Poptropica. We too get that busy, overwhelmed, confusing feeling.”
That also doesn’t give anything away, at least not for me. However, if this is not a sneak peek, this could just be something they put together for fun to lament the busy times. Then again, they did say “behind the scenes”, and the font used in “AHHHHHHH!” looks like it may be for Galactic Hot Dogs. What do you guys think? Comment below!
Well, that’s all for now! Stay popping, Poptropicans! 🙂
Hey everyone, and welcome back to our BTS Overview & Theory series! This time, we’ll be covering Arabian Nights, Ep. 2: Lair of Thieves, written by myself (Spotted Dragon), Samwow5, and HPuterpop. Plus, in honor of Slippery Raptor joining the team, he will be helping us with this round! Click here to read the theory for Arabian Nights: Ep. 1, written by Slanted Fish. 🙂
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW (but that’s what you want, isn’t it?)
Overview of evidence
The next installment of Arabian Nights Island is just around the corner – we mentioned earlier that early access for members starts Nov 25, and it opens Dec 11 for all… HOWEVER, as of a more recent tweet, it looks like the Creators have pushed this back in their schedule: early access for members is now set for Dec 11, while everyone will get to play starting Dec 30.)
Episode 2 is called “Lair of Thieves“, and the official tour page was recently updated with this description:
In the den of the forty thieves, danger lurks around every corner. To outwit the most dangerous thieves in the desert, you’ll need a little help evening the odds — and you’ll find it in the form of an incredible magic power!
Oddly enough, the behind the scenes files show that this episode is called The 40 Thieves.
Strange, right? Well, let’s just continue with the name being “Lair of Thieves.”
Let’s take a a look at some of the major Arabian Nights themed Daily Pop sneak peeks. Click to enlarge all images featured in this post.
Busted: They don’t make them like they used to.
Lock Up: Barring anything unexpected, you’ll be here for awhile.
The Matrix: Gird yourself for a grid.
The Crew: Wherever they go, trouble follows.
Cribs: This is where the magic happens.
Blocked: They’re giving us the hard cell.
Gear Up: They’ve got the supplies, but little demand.
Sentinel: Keeping watch, but who watches the watchmen?
Fat Stacks: Towers of treasures. Mounds of money.
In Secret: First rule of a secret hideout: don’t put a sign up.
In Too Deep: There’s deep undercover and there’s which way is up.
Peace Offering: Don’t get left behind at the altar.
Which Way: Oh, right.
Turban Core: Into the heart of a den of thieves.
Fallen Arches: Nothing golden about these.
Treasure It: Easy to get, incredibly hard to keep.
It Goes Down Every Night: This must be what jail is really like.
Cave In: But can you cave out?
Also, check out these two images in the same scene… very similar, but if you look towards the top, you can see a little difference. Could that added Poptropican be us, spying in the lair of the 40 thieves?
Alert: Be careful in a den of thieves.
Arabian Nights sneak peek via Poptropica’s Twitter
Maybe some dialog will hint at what’s to come? Here is all the text we could gather up:
Now this reveals a lot! It looks like we will have to disguise ourselves to fit in among the thieves, as well as break out of/into some jail cells! We already knew that we would be in search of a magic lamp, but something bigger seems to have popped up. Hmm…
Hopefully the items we found will reveal what’s really going on? Sadly, we are not able to view entire images, since they are protected files.
Magic Sand
Cell Key
Formula
White Robe
Thieves Garb
Viper Skin
Gunpowder
Borax
Quicksilver
Well, the magic sand and/or gunpowder may help us break in to/out of cells… and on that note, it seems like the viper skin will aid in creating the magic sand! …And on THAT note, since we have a formula containing “viper skin,” “borax,” and “quicksilver“, maybe those three items (plus more?) will create magic sand when put together! Oh, the suspense! Of course the cell key will help us unlock a cell and we will have to make the white robe black to fit in with the thieves. Looks like everything fits together! 😀
All that’s left is to put together some scenery. Below are the scene layers of the lair’s entrance.
There is nothing much to say about these images, considering it is just the entrance.
Next up we have some of the scene layers for the Treasure Keep. Here are just the relevant ones:
In the interactive layer, you can see part of the floor crumbling. Could this be the result of our magic sand?
Next up are the scene layers for the cells.
Again, we see some unstable floors and what may possible be the magic sand bomb-like things.
Last, we have the scene layers for the Sanctum.
Well, we see an oil can in the interactive layer, and if we math it up with the other layers, it looks like it is inside a barrel. That might be a useful thing to remember in the quest.
Final theory
In “Lair of Thieves,” our Poptropican will be searching for the magic lamp that the Sultan requested (in episode 1), while trying to outsmart the thieves in the lair we entered at the end of the previous episode. We will disguise ourselves to fit in with the surrounding thieves and try to gather up ingredients to make “magic sand”, which will help us navigate their lair. While sneaking around, we stumble upon a huge supply of lamps and possibly something more.
That’s what we think of Arabian Nights Episode 2, but what do you think? Comment below! The episode will be released to members on Tuesday in three weeks (on Dec 11), so be ready (and it comes out Dec. 11 30 for everyone)! 🙂
Hey everyone! The Creators recently tweeted another behind-the-scenes picture relating to Galactic Hot Dogs. However, it’s not the usual GHD update… in fact, the Creators claim that this blueprint for the GHD crew’s Neon Wiener spaceship is “VERY, VERY behind the scenes.” Click to enlarge:
Do we have a new island upon us??? Hmmm??? Plus, it links to this video trailer for Galactic Hot Dogs.
There is another behind the scenes image on Twitter, but this doesn’t reveal much. Here’s Poptropica’s description for it: “tools being built for more refined character animations in Poptropica’s videos.”
Hey, still pretty cool. 😉
I also want to mention that the Creators have been tweeting a lot of Poptropica related Instagram posts lately, along with Poptropica-In-School moments, Poptropica related Tumblr posts, and more. Keep an eye out for them on Twitter!
The Public Land Preview may be over, but the hype isn’t! Captain Crawfish filmed a quick tour of Zany Crown’s treehouse, the winner of the “Best of the Land” readers’ poll. 🙂
Pretty cool, huh? I definitely think the basement with the tree roots was the best part of the Land. It was super creative, so congrats, Zany! (Plus, Land will be released as a full version early next year!)
Popping 3D on Forgotten Islands
Plus, the Creators posted a reminder that Poptropica: Forgotten Islands is now out for Nintendo 3DS. (Well, actually, it has been out for about a month now.) You can buy it from Amazon or a local toy store if they have it. Just in time for the holidays!
This game marks the first time Poptropica has been presented with stereoscopic 3D, and you don’t even need overpriced 3D glasses!
More behind-the-scenes art
Of course, as is the trend these days, more behind-the-scenes art has been released on Poptropica’s Twitter and also their new Tumblr. (Click to enlarge the images.)
Check out PopStorm #4 – deviating from the “hair” themes of the first three, this one demonstrates the squash and stretch theme.
Finally, here is a sneak peek of a palace interior scene for an upcoming, unannounced island. Apparently the island will be coming in January 2015, so that’s not too far away!
Any theories, guys? I may be way off, but this image kind of reminds me of the underground cave Daily Pops that surfaced throughout 2013. Some people even thought they could be for the return of Legendary Swords. Check out this or this PHB post for some of these sneak peeks, or see some of the images below from our Daily Pop sneak peek archive.
Shroom Available: Looks like a fungal infection has gotten out of control.
Gate Crasher: You came to the wrong neighborhood.
Hot Springs: Nothing like a relaxing dip in some molten lava.
Down Under: Nope, not Australia. It’s even under there.
Undercurrents: Like this water, you may eventually find your own level.
The Glow Pt 2: A light in the darkness is helpful no matter where it’s from.
Spelunky: Gear up before you go down.
On the Edge: Don’t go overboard.
Fossil Fuel: The soil holds many secrets.
The images seem to have a similar style, right? Then again, at a second glace, the old Daily Pops remind me of Arabian Nights too. Well, hopefully you guys have some better theories than I do. 😛
Last but not least, PoptropiCon, Ep. 2: Spoiler Alert releases to everyone tomorrow! Get ready for a big plot twist – and if you need spoilers, check out our PoptropiCon Island Guide. 🙂
That’s all for now! Comment your thoughts below. 😉
