Comparing Dream Islands: Fairytale vs Goofball ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿคช

Hey Poptropicans, this is aย guest postย by Invisible Ring. Enjoy!

Once upon a time, a pauper Poptropican had the honor of writing special parchments for the Kingdom of Poptropica. Among them were two parchments: one comparing Fairytale and Arabian Nights Island, and one comparing Goofball and Jade Scarab Island.

These were the Dream Islands, designed by players in Poptropica’s Create Your Dream Island Contests, and I was that parchment maker. Now, I have returned to share with you two NEW Dream Island parchments, starting with this one:ย Fairytale vs Goofball.

Comparisons

Fairytale and Goofball were the first two Dream Island winners of the 2020 Dream Island Contest.

Both of these newer islands have astounding, artistic, and colorful new scenery, and both islands also have inhabitants that looked and behaved differently than the inhabitants of any classic island.

Furthermore, they both have teeny-tiny little blimps like the one that was on Shrink Ray Island!

Contrasts

However, when you look below the surface, you’ll find that the quests of the islands are shockingly different from each other.

Fairytale Island is made up of mini-quests, and each mini-quest in question is a fractured fairytale; perhaps the most fractured kind of fairytale anyone’s ever SEEN! โ€ฆThat means it’s quite possibly the shortest, easiest, and silliest island of all Poptropica. How did THAT happen?

Perhaps Dr. Blandston โ€”or should I say Dr. Gramston โ€” got to Fairytale Island just as they did Goofball Island.

In my opinion, Goofball Island lives up to Poptropica’s ancient traditions of action, adventure, and mystery.ย

It is not three mini-quests, but one BIG quest, and an original, more challenging one at that. Not just a challenge to play, but a challenge to fully understand, for only when you find the secret subway journal like a true detective do you realize where the Dr. Blandstons came from in the first place!

This brings me to the greatest Fairytale-Goofball difference of all:ย the villains.

Rumpelstiltskin is the villain messing up Fairytale Island, but he gets away and you never catch him.ย

Dr. Gramston is the original villain of Goofball Island, but during the quest, the horrors are carried out by the Blandstons. You see, long ago, Dr. Gramston found a way to transform others into Dr. Blandstons, and it’s spread like a disease since. But the Blandston curse is temporary. So once the Blandstons returned to normal, some of them teamed up and found a way to break the curse once and for all, and fully restore balance (or dullness, or goofiness) to Goofball Island!

โ€ฆIsn’t that a happier ending than Fairytale?

โ€ฆI guess Fairytale has kind of a happy ending, too (Rumpel bonus quest aside). But however you slice it, that island’s story never comes full circle like Goofball Island’s doesโ€ฆ

That’s why I’m gonna get to the bottom of it in the second part of my legendary pirate movie coming up.

Conclusion

To wrap it all up, my favorite of these two Dream Islands is Goofball Island.ย What about you? Feel free to share in the comments below!

P.S. I won’t judge if you like Fairytale Island better.ย I still kinda like that island, too!

Goofball Island, Mini Quests

Blitz on the Fritz Side Quest Guide ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“บ

Coming at you live from the Hive: the Goofball Island sequel side quest, Blitz on the Fritz, is here for members!

To get started, talk to the unicycling Mayor Naise on Home Island or head straight to Main Street on Goofball Island. You’ll need to have completed the island first. Now, talk to news reporter Katie Dare in front of the bumblebee yellow Hive News van to take on the challenge!

Accept, and Katie will let you inside the van and in on a secret: she’s made quite a mess by giving one of her bee-shaped camera bots a blandifying device, and now the bee bot has been turning islands either too bland or goofy. It’s up to you to restore the islands!

Looks like Fry’s Fried Freds also serves soft drinks.

Click on a TV to head to its location. You’ll have a minute to spray each scene back to normal with your own device, all while Blitz the red bee bot tries to take over with his device. As long as you’ve recovered at least 50% of the scene (indicated in the top corner) by the time the bot’s battery dies, you’ll have succeeded. Keep going till you get all four!

For Fairytale and Mythology, you’ll need to bring them from bland to bright again, while for Survival and Escape From Pelican Rock, you’re getting them from goofy to good. Just for comparison fun, here are the original scenes with the new:

Once you’ve saved the islands, you’ll be rewarded with a Zip Follower and 2,000 credits! FYI, Zip is almost as big as your Poptropican.

That side quest just zipped right by, didn’t it? While it’s fun to have some new content to play with, the game itself isn’t all that challenging, particularly with its low bar of just having to save half the scene to call it a day. Still, it’s interesting to have some new characters and a little bit of a story, with bubbly Katie Dare engaging in some shady news-making on a slow news day and trying to fix things by pulling you in.

There are also some nice details to appreciate in the art, whether in the topsy turvy island scenes or inside the news van. Wonder if we’ll get to meet the whole bee gang with Zip, Honey, Flit, Chad, Queen, and of course our wayward boy Blitz? Plus, what are Katie’s colleagues going to think of this whole sticky situation? Until next time, we’re buzzing off.

Plaid Patterns Battle Bionic Bee Blitz ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ

Hey there, Poptropicans! The Pop Creators gave us new items to buy, new videos to watch, and new teasers to ponder. Let’s take a look at what they shared today, starting with a preview of a loading screen advertising the upcoming Goofball Island side quest!

This screenshot confirms the quest’s title to be “Blitz on the Fritz” and gives us a better idea of the storyline. It seems that Blitz, a red robot bee, is wreaking havoc across Poptropica and causing various islands to either go goofy or become bland. Players might need to do some island-hopping to complete this quest, much like they did during Rumpel’s riddle hunt in Fairytale Island’s side quest.

Is Blitz acting alone or is it working with its bee buddies? Is Katie Dare the mastermind of this island-transforming spree? Members can tune in to stop this byte-sized pest and return Poptropica to normalcy! ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ

Before a bionic swarm hits Poptropica, let’s see what new items are in store this week. Do Mondays get you in a shopping mood? This drawing by Friendly Feather sums up our mood whenever Pop updates its in-game shops. No Amelias are available for purchase yet. ๐Ÿ›๏ธโœ๏ธ

Adventure Outfitters continues Pop’s winter fashion trend with the Frosty Babe outfit, which boasts super cute red plaid flannel vest and earmuffs. Everyone can purchase this flannel-tastic outfit for 250 credits. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค

The clubhouse store added five new winter decorations and two returning classics. All players can buy the Pinecone Garland (100 credits), Hanging Snowflake (75 credits), Scented Candle (75 credits), and Tea Set (200 credits). Members can also buy the all-new Honeycomb Shelf (150 credits) as well as the returning Pop Star Poster (75 credits) and Stained Glass Window (250 credits).

Two new videos have been uploaded to Poptropica’s Youtube channel. The first video is a nostalgic lookback at Nabooti Island‘s mancala minigame. What are your thoughts on this classic game of stones and strategy?

The second video is admittedly more interesting. This video confirms that PoptropiCon: Episode 2 will be returning soon! While this video is basically a reupload of the original PoptropiCon trailer from 2014, the news of another PoptropiCon episode returning to the game is exciting. ๐Ÿฆธ

Last but not least, the Pop Creators recently featured a costume contest submission in their latest Instagram story. IG user clovermulo aka Curious Heart designed a stylish Thrifty Girl costume complete with preppy plaid threads, caramel highlights, and sparkly heart earrings. If you want to enter this month’s costume contest, submit your designs before January 17th at 8pm PST.

That’s all for now! Are you looking forward to the release of Goofball’s side quest? How about the return of PoptropiCon: Episode 2? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for our post covering Goofball Island: Blitz on the Fritz!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Goofball sequel soon, and amusements for an afternoon ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฐ

Hey Poptropicans, pop in for what’s popping!

Goofball Island’s side quest drops this Tuesday, Jan 11 for members! So far, we’ve seen sneak peeks of a mysterious Bee Bot and Hive News van with reporter Katie Dare. Stay tuned for our guide!

The Creators’ Blog has also been sharing some fun stuff from the community this week, with a Clubhouse Crawl for Spotted Star and a hand-drawn blimp maze puzzle from Friendly Noodle. Give it a spin!

Fan art continues on Instagram too, with Poptropica featuring these cute doodles of players’ original characters:

Also, Poptropica’s still going strong uploading tons of new short clips on their YouTube and TikTok! We’ll share a couple highlights here, but to see more, check out their respective channel pages.

One of the more interesting clips is a soundbite meme with various Pop characters tagged as various kinds of people โ€” among them, the Huntsman from Fairytale is a Canadian, a pixel pilgrim from Early Poptropica is a Christian, Mark Twain from Mystery Train is for real, and Ringmaster Raven from Monster Carnival is a liberal. How about you?

Another clip shares some Poptropica cosplay looks previously featured on Pop’s social media, captioned “expectations vs reality.” The final shot features what might be a Pop Creator’s face reveal, except their face is covered by paper goggles and painted buckteeth. Not bad for a homemade Dr. Hare look! ๐Ÿฐ

That’s a wrap for this update. Pop on, Poptropicans!
