PoptropiCon Prompts and Video Virtuosos

Hey Poptropicans, we’ve got tons of fandom creativity to share, including a couple ideas to inspire your own — let’s pop into it!

To celebrate the re-release of PoptropiCon, Ep. 2, Poptropica is hosting PoptropiCon Challenges with two options! The first Pop prompt is to 🕷 Show Off Your Dream Cosplay Outfit (see the Spider-Man example from the Creators), and the second is to 🃏 Make Your Own Mighty Action Force Card. See the official blog for details!

While the new episode is currently for members only, everyone is invited to join the PoptropiCon Challenges, which comes with the chance to earn “huge credit rewards”! (How much, they didn’t say.) Send in your creations to Pop’s submissions page by Wednesday, February 9th at 8pm PST and be sure to include your player name.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! Have fun!

The Creators’ Blog also recently put out a massive post of over 10 video highlights from across the fandom from YouTube and TikTok, including speedruns, Skylanders, and sketches. See all the clips from these talented video virtuosos on the official blog! 🎥✨

Speaking of video talent, Invisible Ring recently released her full-length feature film Battle Morale, an original story of an optimistic Poptropican seeking hope and truth in a dark and pessimistic world. Watch it on YouTube with bonus clips, or below:

The production took at least three months since releasing the trailer, and the movie clocks in at an impressive hour and 43 minutes. In addition to Ring’s guest post on the Creators’ Blog about the film, look forward to her interview with the PHB coming up! 👀

Closing out this collection of fandom features is an Instagram story from the Pop Creators, showcasing fan art of a perky Popsona patting an adorably grumpy Bard. Aww, good doggo! 🐶

PoptropiCon, Ep. 2: for members and mobile

Pop drop alert: PoptropiCon Island, Ep. 2 is back on the map!

Members can play the latest episode, “Spoiler Alert,” on both desktop and mobile (though be warned of islands you’ll lose if you update your app). In fact, it came a day early, as the Creators “just couldn’t wait”!

Whether it’s your first time heading inside the convention or you’ve been around the block, be sure to take our handy PoptropiCon Island Guide with you so you can bring on your best Mighty Action Force game.

In other news, January 25 was Opposite Day in the US, an occasion to celebrate doing things differently. The Creators’ Blog shared a familiar Poptropica example: the contrast between Dullsville and Goofside on Goofball Island. As for us on the PHB, we’ll throw in another one: our beloved Dr. Beev as a foil to Dr. Hare. Can you think of others?

As Chilly Shadow mentioned in the Creators’ Blog post comments, it sure would’ve been fun to celebrate the spirit of Opposite Day by granting memberships to non-members!

But, while non-members may be missing out on the new PoptropiCon episode, you don’t have to miss out on your chance at one by joining the PHB’s monthly membership giveaways. All it takes is a few comments!

Anyway, that’s a wrap for now. Poptropicarry on, Poptropicans!

Plaid Patterns Battle Bionic Bee Blitz 🧵🐝

Hey there, Poptropicans! The Pop Creators gave us new items to buy, new videos to watch, and new teasers to ponder. Let’s take a look at what they shared today, starting with a preview of a loading screen advertising the upcoming Goofball Island side quest!

This screenshot confirms the quest’s title to be “Blitz on the Fritz” and gives us a better idea of the storyline. It seems that Blitz, a red robot bee, is wreaking havoc across Poptropica and causing various islands to either go goofy or become bland. Players might need to do some island-hopping to complete this quest, much like they did during Rumpel’s riddle hunt in Fairytale Island’s side quest.

Is Blitz acting alone or is it working with its bee buddies? Is Katie Dare the mastermind of this island-transforming spree? Members can tune in to stop this byte-sized pest and return Poptropica to normalcy! 🤖🐝

Before a bionic swarm hits Poptropica, let’s see what new items are in store this week. Do Mondays get you in a shopping mood? This drawing by Friendly Feather sums up our mood whenever Pop updates its in-game shops. No Amelias are available for purchase yet. 🛍️✏️

Adventure Outfitters continues Pop’s winter fashion trend with the Frosty Babe outfit, which boasts super cute red plaid flannel vest and earmuffs. Everyone can purchase this flannel-tastic outfit for 250 credits. ❤️🖤

The clubhouse store added five new winter decorations and two returning classics. All players can buy the Pinecone Garland (100 credits), Hanging Snowflake (75 credits), Scented Candle (75 credits), and Tea Set (200 credits). Members can also buy the all-new Honeycomb Shelf (150 credits) as well as the returning Pop Star Poster (75 credits) and Stained Glass Window (250 credits).

Two new videos have been uploaded to Poptropica’s Youtube channel. The first video is a nostalgic lookback at Nabooti Island‘s mancala minigame. What are your thoughts on this classic game of stones and strategy?

The second video is admittedly more interesting. This video confirms that PoptropiCon: Episode 2 will be returning soon! While this video is basically a reupload of the original PoptropiCon trailer from 2014, the news of another PoptropiCon episode returning to the game is exciting. 🦸

Last but not least, the Pop Creators recently featured a costume contest submission in their latest Instagram story. IG user clovermulo aka Curious Heart designed a stylish Thrifty Girl costume complete with preppy plaid threads, caramel highlights, and sparkly heart earrings. If you want to enter this month’s costume contest, submit your designs before January 17th at 8pm PST.

That’s all for now! Are you looking forward to the release of Goofball’s side quest? How about the return of PoptropiCon: Episode 2? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for our post covering Goofball Island: Blitz on the Fritz!

24 Carrot Island, Haxe Javascript, PoptropiCon Island, Store, Survival Island, Timmy Failure Island

Get equipped with Quippy’s common room stores 👽

Hey Poptropicans, have we got a lot to look at this time!

In addition to the monthly rotation of store items, four new shops have popped up around Poptropica, each with their own themed items. Plus, the game’s showing signs of progress on the friends feature, and for the first time in a long time, we even get to see some official concept art. Let’s explore!

First, let’s take a tour of the new shops, which are all located in various common rooms on different islands. These common room stores feature themed items for those islands—some new, some we’ve seen before. However, these stores are only available in Poptropica’s Haxe Javascript build, and are unlikely to be made for Flash, which will soon be obsolete.

These common room stores are available on four islands so far: 24 Carrot, PoptropiCon: Episode 1, Survival: Episode 1, and Timmy Failure.

Our first stop is the cinema on 24 Carrot Island. You will find Quippy hovering by the entrance. They’re offering Dr. Hare-themed goodies for sale: Hare Hotshot (which was the former BETA Carrotene bonus for members who helped beta-test the sound-updated 24 Carrot Island), Dr. Hare Plush Toy, Light & Shadow Hare*, and the Rabbit Ear Prank*. (* = members only)

While waiting in line to get into PoptropiCon (Episode 1), you can stop by the Facili-Tee store to buy cool costumes such as the Tinfoil Robot and the Supernova (basically recolored from a Tron ad). You can also show your love of Old School Islands by wearing the Lunar Colony Cosplay* and Game Show Cosplay*. Quippy is ready for the convention with their own adorable cardboard cosplay!

While traveling in our blimp, we get caught in a storm and become stranded in the snowy forest of Survival Island (Episode 1). Thankfully, we’re not alone. A wooden Quippy can be found at the frozen pond under the big tree to the right. They’ll offer feathery friends like the Blue Woodpecker follower and the Owl Head Rider, as well as a Ghillie Suit* and a Frozen Body power*.

Our final stop is Timmy Failure Island. The bad news is that Timmy Failure Island is only available to members. The worse news is that you need to have a membership on an account in Haxe Javascript, as Flash-made accounts are separate from ones made in the newer Haxe build.

If you have an active membership on a Haxe Javascript account, you can access the island and its common room. Though Quippy looks as if they came out of a garbage truck, the store items are anything but trash. We have a Total costume, a Señor Burrito follower, Timmy’s iconic red Scarf*, and a mighty “GREATNESS” banner*. (Strange to list some items as for non-members when the whole island and its store are for members only!)

You can do more than shop in common rooms, of course. The Creators are hard at work implementing the friends feature to the new Poptropica, and new Haxe players now have a fourth dialogue with Amelia when they first land on Home Island: to meet new friends!

In common rooms such as the Blast-off Arcade, you can befriend other players by selecting “Want to be friends?” from the chat menu. If they say yes, you’ll even get a pop-up message saying the friend was added successfully! (It might also say the user isn’t registered, if that’s the case.)

Despite this, the player profile and friends page aren’t ready just yet, so there’s no way to view your friends on Haxe at the moment. But the signs are there that this popular feature is being worked on!

Over on the Creators’ Blog, the Creators shared an inside look on how they created the adorable Quippy. Early concepts show the artists figuring out how to show players the common room stores — did they want a droid, a kiosk, or something else? Once they settled on a droid, they chose some of their favorite designs and explored them further…

All this hard work and creativity culminated into one of the most unique and adorable faces in Poptropica. A friendly droid equipped with a luminous smile and a keen fashion sense. The magnificent Quippy.

The Creators ended their post with a word of encouragement for budding artists and avid gamers:

If you love games and art, consider learning more about becoming a games artist! There are a lot of ways to get involved in the making of video games outside of coding, and game artists are a critical piece of the team. After all, what’s a game without the art!?

That wraps up this post! What do you think of Quippy and the presence of all these new stores? Thoughts on Poptropica’s Haxe build so far? Share in the comments, and if you haven’t yet, catch up to our other posts below!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!
