Hey there, good players of Poptropica!

It’s Purple Claw here bringing you all an abundance of Poptropica news!

To start off, the new mini-game Dr. Hare’s Revenge is now open to all! It’s still in beta, which means it’s not quite finalized, and you can leave feedback in a survey that will pop up after you finish a zone in the game. Here at the PHB, we’ve finalized our Dr. Hare’s Revenge Guide at last, so check out the new page for a video and written walkthrough!

Dr. Hare’s Revenge was released for members only as a beta two-and-a-half weeks ago. Also, if you’re playing from your mobile device, you get to try a new control scheme, with a virtual joystick and jump button!

The basic gist of this game is that you have to stop Dr. Hare from getting his revenge by going to different types of areas called zones and collecting all the carrots. There are four zones, each one consisting of 10 levels each. After you finish the first zone, you’ll be asked to fill out a quick survey, which will help the Creators gauge players’ thoughts on this game and plan out what to put out next on Poptropica!

Over on YouTube, Poptropica uploaded a video titled 6 AWESOME Moments in Poptropica Worlds where Gentle Lion (a newer narrator we’ve been hearing more from) shares his 6 favorite moments from Worlds. Check it out:

Here is his list of awesome moments, summarized below:

The Carrot Museum: It’s a great place to learn more about carrots, their origins and what they do.
The journey to the lair of the mole people: On Crisis Caverns Island, you’ll come across a civilization of mole people, who are in a war against the chthonians.
Finding hidden quests: You don’t always have to follow a single path! You should try to talk to every person you meet and have an eye on the hidden quests that aren’t required, but are fun!
Infiltrating 24 Carrot Island’s factory: This island is all about sneaking in the factory and prevent Dr. Hare from mind-controlling everyone in the world of Poptropica
Escaping the center of the earth: Even after you put an end to the war the mole people have against the chthonians, the supervolcano is going to erupt anyway so you have to hurry up and get out of the underground as fast as possible!
Adventures you make yourself: the ways you can costumize yourself, decorate the house, and adventure is unique and different from anyone else’s.

We at the PHB have a sneaking suspicion that Gentle Lion may be the mystery blogger over at the Creators’ Blog, since his character in this video (and recent videos and blog posts) wears the same sunglasses as the blond guy we saw in earlier screenshots.

His voice in the videos suggests he’s pretty young, which may explain his inexperience with writing. Again, this is just a theory, not proof — but he is doing a great job on these videos, so we hope to keep seeing more of them!

In other Pop YouTube news, another new-ish Creator, Stephanie, hosted livestream #5 this Friday, October 20 at 3 PM EST. Catch the archived video below:

In this episode, Stephanie spent more time decorating her house, this time exploring the members-only house expansion (extra room) feature. She’s spent the last couple of livestream episodes talking about houses, so personally, I’d like to see something new next time. I really wish they made more stuff about Poptropica Original, since there’s way more content over there.

Regardless, I found the video pretty interesting, and I’m glad the quality of each livestream keeps improving. It looks like the videos are starting to be more consistent, too, so perhaps we can keep expecting them on Fridays at about 3 PM EST. Whenever they’ll be, we can be sure to expect a new livestream every week!

Last but not least, Poptropica Comics are back! Check out the newest adventures following Oliver and Jorge on an island of nice people, then werewolves, then a sneeze-inducing moon over on GoComics (which got a redesign back in January):

The Poptropica GoComics site now has an About page, which introduces the comic and cast. Unlike the graphic novel series, Mya is not part of the comics.

There is also a mobile app for the Pop comics, but it doesn’t seem to be updated, and the FunBrain page for Pop comics has strangely disappeared. But on GoComics, a new comic strip has been coming out every few days or so, so hopefully that keeps going!

Speedrun through 24 Carrot, slow down for Home Island, and don’t forget the Antlers

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here with the latest report on what’s popping.

Poptropica has released a new video, and this one’s pretty unique compared to the others: it’s a speedrun of 24 Carrot Island, which shows you how to complete the island in approximately 4 minutes! It’s pretty impressive, so check it out:

The narrator’s voice is not one we’ve heard before, but it sounds like it could be a teenager, or at least someone young but not childlike as in the trailer video. This video uses some visual clips from the trailer, and I think the new voice fits the vibe pretty well. The narration packs a fair bit of humor in its quick walkthrough, only stopping once for a hilariously deep breath. I’d like to see more videos like this! What do you think?

That’s not the only new video this week — we’ve also got another livestream (#4) from Creator Stephanie! Catch the archived video below:

This episode aired October 13 (Friday). (Speaking of Friday the 13th, check out this Creators’ Blog post highlighting some superstitiously-unlucky Poptropica moments for the occasion. It’s good to see Captain Crawfish blogging again!)

Anyway, back to the video with Stephanie. The first minute is just silence before Stephanie realizes she’s on air, and then it’s off to Home Island again! As with the last livestream, she picks up on decorating her house, this time adding membership furniture like the beach themed windows along with her non-member items.

Before placing the furniture in her home, she takes a candy break — not jellybeans this time, but candy from her recent travels to Colombia! Then she starts placing her decor around the house, starting with beach windows and then carefully thinking through where to put her clock, fireplace, rocket lamp and more. Plus, she’s taking names for the suit of armor guarding the house — got any suggestions?

Just as she signs off, we can catch a quick glimpse of the recording program she’s using: Gameshow 2. So there you have that, in case you were wondering!

Stephanie will be livestreaming Poptropica Worlds every week for the foreseeable future. They could be any day of the week, but stay tuned for the next one!

In other news, the Elk Antlers on Crisis Caverns Island have moved! Though they used to be in Crispin Cave, they are no longer there — instead, you’ll now find them on top of Ye Old Cabin and Mine. Why they changed this is a mystery, but perhaps it makes a little more sense in the story as a location for pranksters to place the item.

As you may notice if you try it out for yourself, or if you complete any other item on your quest log, a side note will now appear beside your quest log to mark the completion of an item on the list! Pretty neat new feature to let you know when you’re making some progress. But that’s not the only thing that’s new about the quest log…

Now, when you progress to a new point, a notification will also pop up beside the quest log to give a little nudge for what you’re supposed to do or think about next. You may have noticed it in the 24 Carrot video above, which gives pointers like this one:

Hey Poptropicans! Big news in the Poptropica sphere this week…

…if you’re a member, that is. But even if you aren’t, don’t worry — you’ll get to play this update soon. So what’s up? Well, Dr. Hare is back (kind of) in a new mini-game called Dr. Hare’s Revenge! Check out the sweet animated video promo:

In this game, which you can find on your map in Poptropica Worlds, Dr. Hare (who you may remember from 24 Carrot Island) has set a series of challenges for you: find your way around each maze full of tricks and traps, collecting all the carrots before time runs out. There are four zones of 10 levels each, which gives you plenty of gameplay and scenery to be entertained with.

Since this is currently still in beta, members who play this game during this early access period get to take a survey after completing Zone 1, in which you can give your feedback to the Poptropica Creators! They want to know what you think, so be sure to fill it out if you can! This style of gameplay is definitely following a different direction than a typical Poptropica island, yet it is a common mobile gaming trend with its simple objective and ascending level difficulties — but what do you think of it?

Also, if you’re playing this on a mobile phone or tablet, you also get to try out a whole new control scheme. With it, you can move around using an on-screen joystick and jump button. Again, the Creators want to know your thoughts on this!

The game itself is pretty exciting, but there is one thing worth pointing out: despite the name, Dr. Hare himself doesn’t make an appearance, instead letting his rabbot droids run the show! It looks like Poptropica has pulled another Dr. Hare’s Secret Lab — but at least Dr. Hare’s Revenge is quite a bit more interesting.

When you’ve completed Dr. Hare’s Revenge, you’ll win 500 coins and a cool trophy of Dr. Hare’s head for your house! Plus, you can always replay levels to beat your high scores and see where you’re at on the leaderboards.

On a comparatively less exciting note, but an exciting one all the same, there’s been an update to house decor: you can now stand on your furniture (the ones that make sense to do so, anyway — and yes, this one applies to everyone)! Jumping on beds will even make your character bounce with a satisfying springing sound.

Curious icons and hare-raising items for Poptropica Worlds

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and I have returned from the post-making dead to bring to you some miscellaneous items and assorted goodies from within the Poptropica files, shared courtesy of Pop glitcher idk.

This collection is all about icon designs for Poptropica Worlds, some of which we’ve seen multiple times, and others that are never-before-seen. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Among the first batch, there’s a strange lightning bolt symbol and crystal symbol. There has not been anything associated with these symbols in menus of Poptropica before, which makes their presence here curious. The closest thing I can associate with the crystal is Realms, but there is a likely chance I’ll be wrong. Only time will tell.

Here we also find what appears to be costumization button. This begs the question of whether the Creators are going to implement a Costumizer feature any time soon. After all, it has been a highly requested feature for Poptropica Worlds since day one, and already, players are missing the ability to steal that nice-looking shirt from some random guy on Main Street. How soon that will be is still up in the air.

There are also some icons that appear to have originally been planned to be used for the home decorating aspect of Worlds gameplay, including an ability to rotate or flip objects. We do have a rotate option in player homes that looks similar, but it’s only two-dimensional: we can’t, for instance, make a couch face the TV.

I feel like the flip aspect would have been very useful for any of the furniture, and the rotate would be cool for pictures hanging on the wall or anyone looking to make a topsy-turvy house. Whatever the case is, what else will come of this completely new aspect of gameplay?

Finally, among a collection of items from the new new 24 Carrot Island, the files also show some unused items. Among these are the curiously absent teleporter to the outside of the factory that was in the original 24 Carrot, and a post-it note with “Command: Eject” on it. The cinema ticket also looks different.

Why these were not included in the game is probably a matter of refining during the creative process of making the island, but it is still cool to see what might have been.

So with these findings, we not only get a high-definition look at some of the icons and symbols within Poptropica Worlds, but we also get to see stuff that did not make it in the game. From there, it allows us to draw our own conclusions on what could have been, or what might become in the future. Although things in Poptropica have been more… spontaneous than usual, there is still an instinctive curiosity to make guesses based on what we know.

Speaking of icons, we’ve recently had a makeover with the one that represents our Poptropica Help Blog site! Taking the iconic Poptropica blimp design to fit the letters “PHB,” Slanted Fish put together this new one, hoping to capture the Poptropican spirit of adventure. Although we’ve been using our classic blue-circle, white-lettered icon for years, it felt like time for a change, and we hope the new one tells a better story!

Escape Cryptids with the #FreeThe15 Challenge

Hey there, good players of Poptropica!

It’s me, Purple Claw, with some interesting news — the ~~unknown~~ Creators are hosting another challenge that you should all know about! (There was also the visitors’ center challenge that we didn’t post about, but you can check it out here.)

Anyway, let’s get started, shall we?

So basically, the Creators are releasing 15 new house decor items, and we have to be the ones that have make that happen, through the power of social media!

Random PHB reader: Um, Purple Claw, what do you mean by that? We’re just plain fans! And why don’t you post more often?!

I’m glad you asked! Well, the Creators are giving us an opportunity to release some new sweet house decor items, but what we have to do is… uh… post pictures of the Ice Cream Machine inside our houses for some reason, and with the hashtag #FreeThe15. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Poptropicans must post a picture of the Ice Cream Machine from the Home Decor Store placed into their Pop Worlds Home.

Step 2: Don’t forget to use the hashtag #FreeThe15 in your entries so we can find it.

Step 3: Tag your friends and get them to post! We only release the 15 items if we get enough people to share their Ice Cream Machine in their Home and tag with #FreeThe15. The more people who enter, the greater the chances of unlocking these items!

Remember, this is a race against the clock- we need enough people to post with the hashtag by Monday to unlock all 15 items. The more Ice Cream Machines you have & pictures you post, the better! These items would be available for ALL PLAYERS, and we need EVERYONE to participate! Good luck, Poptropicans!

There’s a positive and a negative side to this. First of all, it’s free items, baby! Everyone loves ’em! But on the other hand, this kinda popped out of nowhere, and there seems to be no real rhyme or reason to it…

Don’t get me wrong; I love Poptropica challenges. But this one just felt so… random. In my opinion, I think that they should’ve just added the 15 new items without making this contest, but maybe this was their way of trying to increase the activity on social media. Still, the way they’re going about it feels half-hearted, with not much of a story to it.

In other news, yesterday, another post was published on the Creators’ Blog, promoting one of Poptropica’s most popular islands: Cryptids Island. Cryptids Island is well-known for its mythical creatures and its extraordinary adventure.

The post was pretty interesting, but the thing that stood out the most was this glorious drawing of the Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie:

It’s really nice! I really like the detail on the ocean, and I wish I would draw like that. However, it doesn’t quite look like the ordinary Poptropica style. When asked about it, the Creators wrote back that a Poptropica artist wanted to do things a bit differently to capture the mystery.

It was created to capture the mysterious mission of Cryptids Island, so one of our artists did it a bit differently.

Anyway, Cryptids is one of my favorite islands, and I really want it to be remastered for Poptropica Worlds, so I kinda hope (even though the chances are really low) that it might be. So I guess #CryptidsForWorlds..? I don’t know. XD
