In other news, Poptropica composer Jeff Heim uploaded three new Pop soundtracks to Soundcloud! (Thanks to MaryannTheConqueror for the news) The titles of these songs hint at two classic island remasters in the works: Lunar Colony Island and Ghost Story Island.

Our first song is “Lunar Colony”, an obvious nod to Lunar Colony Island. The wondrous orchestra fits the theme of exploring an unknown territory, such as the moon.

Next, we have two songs for Ghost Story Island. The first of these two is “Ghost Story Main Theme”. This eerie tune is the perfect piece for walking down the foggy streets of Hemlock Harbor and learning about the town’s tragic past.

The second Ghost Story Island song— and the final of the three new songs—is called “Fiona’s Theme”. The first half sets up a spooky atmosphere, and the second half plays the melody of Fiona’s Song (the song you play on the violin in Ghost Story Island). A wonderful track full of ambience and nostalgia!

It’s a pleasant surprise that these songs were released so suddenly. Perhaps work on remastering the classic islands began earlier than we expected. It gives us some assurance that these fan-favorite islands are not forgotten and will stick around after the end of Adobe Flash.

We at the PHB hope that you join us for more spooky fun this month. We have artistic events like Poptober and Community Creations, as well as our annual PHB Halloween costume contest!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!

Drawing Poptropicans over to a Lunar Colony!

Hey Poptropicans!

If you’re looking for a book to read, one of the Poptropica chapter books, Lunar Colony (which, as you might guess, is similar to the plotline of Lunar Colony Island), is now available for free in its entirety over on Funbrain! You can click here to flip through the 135-page, illustrated book online. Enjoy!

(Thanks to Shaky Skunk for the tip!)

If you prefer a hard copy of the book, you can buy one online or in a bookstore.

Over on the Creators’ Blog, Skinny Moon has reposted an old video tutorial from Pop Creator Jon Pitcher about How to Draw a Poptropican Head. You can view it below:

Notably in her post, she gave a shout-out to the PHB’s How to Draw a Poptropican guide, now updated with more art examples! It’s been one of the few times the PHB has been mentioned on the Creators’ Blog. Thanks Skinny Moon!

Once you master drawing your Poptropican’s head, the body should be a piece of cake — but if you want a little guidance check out the Poptropica Help Blog’s tutorial. They give some nice tips for drawing clothes and accessories.

She also hints at something to come…

Is there a reason we’re helping you brush up on your Poptropican drawing skills? Hmmmm? You’ll just have to wait and see… 😉

Wink, wink. ;;))) All we can say is, something’s up and you’ll want to be ready to get your creative juices flowing! Also, if you like Poptropica fan art, be sure to also check out our We-Love-Poptropica group on DeviantArt and the #art channel on the PHC. New stuff comes up frequently! 😀

Stay popping, Poptropicans!

Engineering with a Monkey Wrench

(Hey Poptropicans! Today’s news is brought to you in a guest post by Tall Cactus, who also runs her own Poptropica blog and frequently visits the PHB chat now on Discord. Hope you enjoy! –slantedfish)

Hello Poptropicans! It’s me, Tall Cactus, and I have some news to share with you!

First of all, the name of the mysterious upcoming island has finally been revealed. If you go to your medallion list, you’ll see this… Yup, its name is Monkey Wrench Island!

monkey wrench island

Now, this could be a code name that may later change, but either way, I was not expecting that. I thought it would be called something like Castaway Island. Maybe we’ll get an official announcement sometime this week about what’s likely to be the new tutorial upgrade!

In other news, in celebration of National Engineers Week, Poptropica is offering 300 credits for first-time completions of various science-themed islands! That’s twice as much as the usual 150! The special islands are Steamworks, Lunar Colony, Shrink Ray, and Virus Hunter Island, and again, it must be your first time finishing them to win the extra credits. (Click the island names for guides!)

However, this ends on February 27th (Saturday), so make sure to get the extra credits if you can! You could win up to 1200 credits for these four islands! I, on the other hand, have already completed all of those islands, so I get nothing.

300 credits

That’s all for now. See you guys soon!

Mission Atlantis theories: a dive into code

Hey everyone! HPuterpop and I were looking behind the scenes at some of Poptropica’s code, and found some really interesting stuff about the upcoming episode(s) of Mission Atlantis! The official tour page currently says there will be 3 episodes, but we think there may even be a fourth. We don’t know for sure, but here’s a look at what we found:

missionatlantisep3For those who’ve played the island so far, you may recall that at the end of episode 2, we’ve just entered Atlantis. Sounds like your character wants to find a way home, though, but if Episode 3 is about the city of Atlantis itself, there may just be an Episode 4 about escaping the aliens (spoiler hehe) and trying to get home. Here’s what we know about Ep. 3:

You’re on the verge of the greatest discovery in human history — but an ancient intelligence has other plans. —description for Episode 3: Out of the Blue

So we know that in Mission Atlantis: Ep. 3, we find “ancient intelligence” – possibly aliens. And maybe Atlantis is, or contains, an alien ship that crashed – as you can see in the snapshot of code below, they were stuck for millions of years.

missionatlantisep32Here’s another look at some code to support the theory that the Atlantis you find is not the infamous lost city, but an alien ship that crashed. But who knows?

missionatlantisep31A while back, HP made a post making some connections from Daily Pop sneak peeks of Mission Atlantis to the markings were from Lunar Colony. Fascinating findings, huh?

strangemarkingsss

Could the same aliens from Lunar Colony be on Mission Atlantis? Might we find Dr. Salerno in an alien ship? We know she didn’t die when she went through that portal at the end of Lunar Colony Island, and she actually looked happy with the aliens, so we assume the aliens are nice. Now, these are just our theories based on some things we’ve found, but we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for us next.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the post! Tell us your thoughts and theories in the comments! 🙂

Daily Pop, Lunar Colony Island, Mission Atlantis Island, Shark Boy Mystery, Survival Island

Mission Atlantis aliens, more on Shark Guy, and facts on Hydromedusan jellyfish!

What isn’t happening in the world of Poptropica? Prepare to have your mind blown with all the new things happening in the Poptropica universe! 😀

Mission Atlantis = Aliens?

Here’s a thought – Poptropica really likes making aliens the central element of island stories (e.g. Nabooti Island, Lunar Colony, and Astro-Knights Island). What are the odds that the rumored city of Atlantis that you will be discovering in Mission Atlantis are ruins of alien life? Sounds pretty intriguing, but not only is it possible – it’s very likely — and we have proof.

I was playing through Lunar Colony recently (I work in mysterious ways 😛 ) and was nearing the end of the island in the alien base. Inside are alien markings that probably don’t amount to anything – but I thought that they looked familiar. Sure enough, a recent Daily Pop had some of those same markings!

strangemarkingsss

But still, this could be a new alien island, or a follow up for Lunar Colony. Well, it could be, but under the markings are little fishies (insert nomnom here), and where there are fishies, there is ocean. And where there’s ocean…  you get the idea. 😛

Upcoming Island Updates

First of all, Mission Atlantis Episode 2 will be named “Fortress of the Deep“, according to the files — and there will be many a pipe as it seems.

I also finished my walkthrough for Mission Atlantis Episode 1, and you can check it out here. 😀

pipes

Second, the theme for Survival: Episode 3 is finally here! Still quite spooky, still quite awesome! 😀

Thirdly, remember that book that I talked about a while ago named Future Island? Well, it’s back on the Amazon store! There still is no cover, but we know that the writer of the book (Caroline Laidlaw) has also written many other books, most being for the “Penguin Kids” series. It’s scheduled for January 8, 2015 — might I say a long way out! Could this be a book for an upcoming island? Other island books have been written by multiple people, so it is possible. If so, that could mean that Future island is coming out this year! 😀

Here’s another thought — Future Island is actually the Dream Island Contest winner! I know, the winner’s island is called Arabian Nights Island, but perhaps they just put Future there because they hadn’t decided yet, and haven’t managed to change it yet. Besides, the Penguin Group are the ones who sponsored the contest…

Facts about the Hydromedusa

Fun fact: hydromedusae are just jellyfish. There are all types of hydromedusae, all translucent and dangerous — but, there is one thing that Poptropica falsifies about them in Mission Atlantis. In the island, a group of hydromedusan jellyfish shock your sub and make it loose it’s power.

However, jellyfish do not have a real electric shock ability, it only feels like a shock when you become in contact with them. Electric eels, on the other hand, do have an electric shock ability. Thanks to Poptrickia for pointing this out first!

The jellyfish on Mission Atlantis that does in fact “shock” (teehee) your sub is called a Hydromedusa (hydromedusae is the plural). (Compare the real-life image to the Poptropica version above!) Hydromedusae eat larvaes, plankton, and multiple soft bodied creatures. They belong to a class called hydrozoa, which includes types like the Aequorea victoria and Craspedacusta sowerbii. And even though they can’t electrify you, they can sure sting!

Plus, the name of the ship on Mission Atlantis is called “Medusa” – a scientific term for jellyfish. Check out the PHB’s Mission Atlantis Island page for more trivia! 🙂

More on Shark Guy

If you’ve read Slanted Fish’s latest post, then you know about the sudden maturing of Shark Boy — now known as Shark Guy. But I have some more things to mention about him. First of all, if you friend him, his name in the Friends list is just Poptropican.

Special names are not impossible in the Friends list (e.g Captain Crawfish), but Creators are the only ones to know how to make them. For example, Codien, a legendary PHB author, has a special name. However, if you friend him (theCodien), he shows up as Poptropican. So why wouldn’t Shark Guy have a special name in the Friends list? I mean come on — he is the first Creator alias!

sharkboyfacts

Second of all, the picture above was taken from my secondary account. I had the original Shark Boy username friended — but, when I logged in, it showed the new Shark Guy! I had never friended the new username (SharkGuyCreator) before, so perhaps the Creators replaced the original with the new one in an attempt to fix a breach of security.

What I’m saying is, this whole thing may just be a cover up for a kid who got into the original Shark Boy account, or a glitch that gave him the username. The Creators have not been on top of things lately, and the Poptropican thing might just be an error. Either way, I miss Shark Boy, and Shark Guy will never be the same.

Yes, I am back. Did you miss me? 😛 Be ready for Poptropican Portraits Round 9 soon! 😀
