Happy New Year, Poptropicanos! ๐ฅณ We’ve made it a quarter of a century into the new millennium! Woah. ๐คฏ

Speaking of being shook, can you believe the Poptropica Help Blog has been around for an incredible 16 years, and is now on its way to the 17-year mark this summer? Itโs without a doubt that the PHB has made a significant impact on readers from all around the world during its time in the blogosphere, and I personally think that calls for some sort of recognition. ๐ซถ
It’s been nearly 8 years since Fishy commemorated the many styles of headers past, and double that time since veteran former author, Codien, did it first. With that in mind, I thought a fun way to celebrate yet another 8 years of awesomeness would be to take a stroll down memory lane once again and revisit some of the old headers (2017-present day) that have graced the top of our homepage.
Most of these designs were crafted by our founder, Slanted Fish, but a few were created by other PHB staffers as well. During special occasions like Halloween, April Fools, and The Poppies, we sometimes find it extra fun to whip up some themed banners for merry measure. We even held a contest once! Without further ado, I hope you enjoy this trip back to 2017 (where we last left off) in…

As you might notice, our method for designing headers over the last eight years has largely involved using illustrations instead of piecing together assets from in the game.
What began as an innovative approach in 2016 has now evolved into the norm, and I feel that the blog is even more unique and captivating as a result. It really demonstrates the remarkable talent of our community, don’t you think? ๐
Which ones do you remember from back in the day and which ones are your favorite? I really like the one Gentle Dolphin created for the header contest held in 2018. The Poppies headers are always a hit for me as well. Share your opinions and memories down in the comment section below!
(Donโt forget to check out parts 1 & 2 for even more nostalgia!)
Thank you so much for reading as always and I hope you continue to hang around for more moons to come. Pop on y’all! ๐พ
Hello! Welcome to the next part of our series with the Pop Creators interviewing members of the PHB team. As you may have seen on Poptropica’s blog, this turn goes to Purple Paw. Let’s get started!

1. How were you first introduced to Poptropica?
Surprise surprise, Funbrain! I’d been playing through our long lost friend, the Arcade, and had seen an ad for Pop on the side of the screen. My sister already knew a bit about it, and we set up a shared account. We continued playing together for a few years after that.
2. Who do you think is the most underrated character? Overrated?
It’s near impossible to talk about overrated characters without mentioning Dr. Hare — 24 Carrot was but the beginning of his career. Personally, I also think Amelia gets a little more attention than she’s worth.
As for most underrated, I’d have to go with Captain Ziggs from Steamworks Island. He’s already gone by the start of the island, but we later learn that he raised the drawbridge to keep the plant monsters at bay before presumably being cornered in his apartment. It’s largely thanks to him the citizens of Steamworks made it to their cryotubes in time. Quite the unsung hero!
3. What are your favorite scenes, aesthetically and to play through?
It’s definitely difficult to choose, but in my eyes nothing beats Binary Bard’s dream from Super Villain Island. That galaxy artwork is spectacular, and the whole concept of the dream itself is so inventive! The Sacred Tree Hollow from Twisted Thicket, with its mystical forest aesthetic, ranks high on the list for me as well.

4. From your perspective, how have you seen the Poptropica Help Blog (PHB) and community change over time?
Itโs always shifting and changing alongside Pop itself. People will come and go often according to those changes; the end of Flash in 2020 brought both a resurgence of new fans excited for the future of the game, as well as those who became less active in the community after the loss of the classic islands. Itโs amazing to see how long the PHBโs lasted and how many different people have come here over the years, whether they plant roots or just stop by briefly.
5. How has your PHB career surprised you?
Iโd say Iโm most surprised by the sheer amount of ideas, endeavors, and incredible creations that have graced the PHB, during my time as a staff writer and before! Artwork, fanfic, crossovers, animations, fan islands, even fan-made gamesโthereโs so much creativity in the Pop fandom and the PHB holds a good chunk of it.
I didnโt quite know what to expect when joining the staff team, but itโs been a great experience thus far. The support and interactivity that can come from posting my own ideas is really gratifying. Iโm thankful to be a part of it!
6. What inspires you?
As an artist myself, Iโve always been inspired first and foremost by other peopleโs artwork. I love viewing all the unique styles and methods of creating art and learning about how theyโve evolved throughout history. Getting outside and enjoying natureโwhether by hiking, gardening, or finding a nice place to sit and enjoy the viewโis a source of peace and inspiration for me as well.
7. What does the Pop community mean to you?
A lot. Itโs become a significant part of my lifeโalongside meeting a fair amount of my good online friends here, the communityโs become an outlet through which to channel my creativity and to view other peoplesโ creations as well. Poptropicaโs highly nostalgic for me, and itโs really nice to know and interact with other people who relate to that.
8. How have your experiences with the community and Poptropica influenced you IRL?
Plenty of writings, ideas, and pieces of art from my earlier childhood and the present have been heavily inspired by Pop. I remember writing stories based on the events of Astro-Knights and Twisted Thicket, and I even attempted to write a whole play revolving around Night Watch (attempted being the keyword thereโฆ ahem). Its myriad of characters even helped me overcome my avoidance of drawing people!
Even now, I still find joy and comfort in the many amazing islands of Pop. It remains special to me, and I can say with certainty itโs made a huge impact on my life.
9. Outside of Poptropica and your PHB involvement, what are you passionate about?
My ungodly amount of art and writing projects. Even though I abandon them frequently, I still care about them equally and do my best to continue them whenever life (and my overactive brain) permits.

Thanks, Poptropica, for being such a big source of inspiration for so many! Hope you all enjoyed getting to know me a little more in this Q&A, and if you like, you can check out more of my writing and art here on the PHB. You can also read this interview on the Pop Creators’ Blog. Pop on!
Hi there, everybody! I’m Purple Paw, and itโs trueโIโve just become the PHBโs newest author!! Iโm incredibly proud, very surprised, and most of all, excited to have this opportunity.

Beginning my journey as a writer for this blog, Iโll tell you a bit about how I joined this fandom.
I first started playing Poptropica in 2015, finding the game through Funbrain (as many players do). After playing my first islandโMystery TrainโI quickly became engrossed in the game. In mid-2016, I ran into technical difficulties that prevented me from playing for several months. But as soon as everything was fixed and back in working order, I jumped right back into playing!
For quite some time, I wasnโt as interested in Pop, as my attention gradually shifted to other fandoms. Throughout 2017, 18, and 19, I would occasionally log in to check out what was happening, but nothing interested me enough to convince me to stay. That is, until 2020 came…
This past summer, I had a thought to check back on Poptropica. And this time, something did convince me to stay: the return of the old islands. I was thrilled to see that they had come back. I bought a membership so that I could enjoy them once more.
Whilst playing through a difficult island (which one, I canโt remember) I found myself stuck. But I wasnโt worried; I knew there were plenty of helpful walkthroughs out there. So I browsed the Internet for the best one I could find. And then I came across the PHB! I liked the PHB enough to revisit it several times. But I didnโt involve myself in the community at firstโthat is, until the PHB’s Tribal Tournament began in August. Now, this was something I couldnโt resist. I sent in my submissions, and was very surprised when I was crowned MVP!
I joined the PHC Discord community for the end of tournament party, and decided to stick around. I met several online friends there on the Discord server. In the following months, I started writing guest posts for the PHB and participated in a few other contests. By that point, you could say I’d put myself out there in the Poptropica fandom.
But the most shocking surprise came just this week. I had logged onto Discord, and was typing a message, when I noticed a new DM from Slanted Fish. Curious, I opened it, and it took all my willpower not to scream when I saw the invitation to join the PHB team!
I wonโt deny that I had considered becoming a PHB author, but the fact that it was really happening was unbelievable! The down-to-earth side of me tried to convince myself the invite was just a dream, but I knew it wasnโt. Ecstatic, I accepted the offer. And that just about brings us to where we are today. Iโm super excited to be part of the PHB staff, and canโt wait to see what happens next!
