Unreleased Store Items: from Amazonian to White Out

Hello everyone! This post is proof that I am not dead, no matter how socially awkward I may be.

Anyway, today’s post features several unreleased items from Poptropica, that we may or may not be seeing in game. Thanks to idk for the pictures by the way.

As you can see, these items (costumes) consist of the Amazonian Woman,Loon’s Head Cane, Secret Society Trooper, Shakespear in Love, Stun Baton, Terror Captain, and White Out.

To me, these all seem like costumes that would be found as bronze cards in the Store, but we may not even end up having any of them. I say this because the “Stun Baton” reminds me of the ZMB Unit costume that was for members only when Zomberry Island was first released, since that costume includes a similar handheld item. It would seem repetitive to make such a similar item available.

Still, all these costumes and items seem pretty interesting! Tell us what you think of them in the comments below. 😛

PHB Pop-over Special: Gravity Falls Gang!

Gravitate over here, Poptropicans – it’s time for another PHB Special*!

(*Side note: PHB Specials are a category of posts that can pertain to a variety of things. You may be familiar with Blake’s Special scripts, for instance, of which the most recent is the Valentine’s Special.)

Many of us here at the PHB are fans of Gravity Falls (a Disney TV show), and if you are too, you may know that the finale will be upon us this Monday, February 15th! To commemorate this great show, and to acknowledge requests for more costumes, we’ve made some Gravity Falls Poptropica costumes for you to enjoy. (And if you’re not a fan, we highly recommend you start your binge-watching today. 😉 )

From left to right, here’s how you can get their costumes:

  • Soos: You can get his hat from the tent guy on Ghost Story and the shirt from the Bigfoot Fanatic costume in the Store. Alternatively, the green video game shirt from a guy on Reality TV also works, and it’s customizable when you friend phbSoos.
  • Dipper: His hat is from a guy on Lunar Colony’s Main Street, and the jacket is from a guy on Red Dragon’s Frog Creek. Simply friend phbDipper and customize.
  • Mabel: Her whole look can be achieved from the start at account creation. You can friend phbMabel and customize her whole look.
  • Grunkle Stan: His fez (hat) is from Time Tangled’s Timbuktu (Mali Empire), the suit from Spy Island, and you can buy Fake Noses from the Store (yes, we know Stan’s glasses aren’t like that, but close enough). (Extra: get the Timmy Failure Scarf in the Store and use the ASG on WillyWonkaASG for the cane!) Friend phbStanPines for the outfit. For the beard, use the ASG on ZeusASG. (Double extra: friend StanfordPines2 for Grunkle Ford’s costume!)
  • Wendy: Her freckles are from a lady on Cryptids Island, and the rest of her costume is from the clothing crank on Home Island. To make it simple, friend phbWendy and customize. For a plaid shirt instead, try the Fall Fashion Outfit from the Store – but note that this is red, not green.

These guys are also now on our Costumes page! Hope you enjoyed these costumes, and let us know what you think! 🙂 Oh, and if you have the Pixel Pig Power, you can pretend it’s Waddles. 😉

By the way, if you have any costume ideas, we would love to hear them – and you are more than welcome to make your own, especially with instructions or accounts to befriend for said costumes. The comments section of our Costumes page is a great place to start (as well as just to browse).

PHB’s 7th Halloween Competition Winners!

phb hallo win 2015

Happy Halloween, Poptropicans! It’s finally time to unveil the winners of this year’s PHB Halloween Competition, which came in two parts: costumes and Photo Booth. We’re celebrating our recent milestone of 20 million hits by choosing 20 winners; 10 for each portion. Here we go…

Part I: Costumes

Mirror, mirror on the wall; who’s the scariest of them all? Well, the PHB team enjoyed looking at the great number of ghastly garbs that dared to enter this hallowed competition, and we’ve finally narrowed it down to ten of this year’s best! These guys get the honor of being shown on the front page via this post, as well as having their costumes immortalized on the PHB’s Costumes page. Check ’em out:

Part II: Photo Booth

The Creators may have held their own Photo Booth Halloween challenge, but we were first – and we did promise to award memberships to the winners! 😉 Check out these spine-chilling spectacles created right in Home Island’s Photo Booth (with a bit of clever image editing in #2)!

If you are one of the Photo Booth winners, check your email for a message from the PHB regarding having your membership awarded to you. #1 gets a 6-month membership, #2 and #3 get a 3-month each, and #4-10 each get a 1-month! Might come in handy for the upcoming Escape from Pelican Rock Island. 😛

We had hundreds of entries for the PHB’s 7th Annual Halloween Competition, and regardless of whether or not yours made this list, thank you for participating! If you’d like to check out everyone’s entries, browse the comments section of the contest post before it’s too late. 😉

The PHB’s 7th Halloween Competition (and 20M Hits Bonus!)

7thPHBHalloweenCostumeContest

Boo, Poptropicans! Halloween is approaching, and that means… it’s time for another Halloween costume competition here on the PHB! This will be our 7th year in a row, but we’re adding a special twist: with the recent Photo Booth added to Poptropica’s Home Island, you can enter a picture creation for a chance to win a membership from the PHB! Sound spooktacular?

Part I: Costume Competition

Traditionally, Poptropicans submit their best Poptropica Halloween costumes in the comments section by giving an Avatar Studio link and/or posting their username. Keep in mind the following tips:

  • Be original! Mix and match to create your own unique costume(s).
  • There are some great Halloween costume parts at the ghoul gathering from the end of the Haunted House quest from the Store, as well as the collection of free costumes in the Store, but be creative and search in other places too!
  • Keep your costume intact until after the winners are announced, or we may not see it! If you don’t want to keep the costume on your main account, create a new one and post that instead.
  • To post your entry, go to the Avatar Studio, type in your username, click Load, click on the Link to highlight it, right-click and choose Copy, go to the comments section on this post, right-click and choose Paste, type in your comment and submit so we can view your costume by clicking the link! Name your costume and post the username if you want.

PRIZES: On Halloween (October 31st), we’ll make a post featuring the winning costumes, plus they will also be immortalized on the PHB’s Costumes page, where you can also see examples of past winners. We’ll have 10 winners for the costume portion, but wait, there’s more…

Part II: Photo Booth Competition

This year, to celebrate our recent milestone of 20 million views here on the PHB, we’re adding a new portion to the competition: the Photo Booth, where we’ll pick another 10 winners for a total of 20!

If you haven’t checked out the Photo Booth on Home Island yet, now’s the time! Poptropica recently added lots of Halloween props to the feature, and you can check out the PHB’s Photo Booth guide here. The objective of this competition is to create the best Halloween picture with your character in it using the Photo Booth, which means you’ll need a snazzy Halloween costume on (see part I)!

For anyone entering this part of the competition, you’ll also need to complete Part I and share a link to your Poptropican to prove that you own the character you use in your Photo Booth pic. This part is optional, but like the first part, we’ll be selecting 10 winners, and the PRIZES get better…

  • First place: 6-month membership
  • Second and third place: 3-month membership
  • 4th to 10th place: 1-month membership

That’s right, you can enter for a chance to win a membership paid for by the PHB!

Important: If you are selected to win one, you must be comfortable in privately contacting us with your login credentials (username and password) so that the membership may be awarded. If you have a currently active membership and are selected, keep in touch with us about when it expires and we will work something out (or, you can donate your membership prize to an honorable mention entrant). 🙂

How to enter:

  1. Create your picture with the Photo Booth on Home Island, being sure to include your character wearing a spooktacular Halloween costume somewhere in it.
  2. Press the green checkmark button to save the image to your computer.
  3. Upload the image somewhere on the web (for example, tinypic) that will give the image a URL.
  4. Copy and paste the image URL into the comments section along with the instructions from part I (Avatar Studio link of your costume and/or username). This will allow us to see the image online.

Note: For both competitions, you can submit as many entries as you like, but you can only win a maximum of one time. Have fun! You have until Halloween.

Happy Halloween, Poptropicans… 😈

May the spookiest rise from their graves.

PHB Sunday Special: Tribute to Biome Hats

Hey Poptropicans! This Sunday, we have a special guest post from Beastking77 giving tribute to the Realms-inspired Biome Hats that recently hit the Store. First published on Super Thunder’s Blog, he has given us permission to re-post his review here on the PHB. Enjoy! 🙂

Ice Biome Hat

snowhatThe Ice Biome Hat is not only perfect for keeping you warm on those cold nights, it’s also a remarkable fashion statement. I love the way the hat attempts to capture the likeness of a wild Arctic beast, with the whisker furnishing, the white fur and the magnificent pointed ears. I especially love the fang-like protrusions on either side of the hat: they just really capitalize on the wild, untamed look this hat has. It’s that kind of attention to detail we just don’t get in hatters these days. Finally, the stitches on the side give it an appearance of barely being held together, as if it were hand-made by an Arctic explorer from the fur of an Arctic beast. A brilliant work.

Forest Biome Hat

foresthatWe often get so caught up in modern society and its beauties that we often forget about beauty’s roots. The Forest Biome Hat reminds us of the kind of beauty that can only be found in nature. The hatter responsible for this work of art has taken inspiration from a bird’s nest. The crisp green leaves complement the nice shade of purple in the sticks, which are both emphasized by the pale white eggs that sit atop this hat. But all appearances aside, I like to see this hat as a commentary on nature. The eggs in the hat seem to be a metaphor for the fragility and beauty of nature. The wearer of the hat is therefore the protector of nature, emphasizing that we must play a part in protecting and preserving the beauty that is nature. A beautiful hat with a beautiful meaning.

Desert Biome Hat

deserthatThe Desert Biome Hat is admittedly not one of my favourites. First of all it’s not a very attractive hat to look at. I mean, it’s pretty ugly and awkward looking. While the jagged edge is certainly a nice touch, the overall design is pretty underwhelming. Secondly, it has a rather boring colour scheme. Blue and grey aren’t exactly the most eye-catching of colours. But it is functional. In the hot dry heat of the unforgiving Desert Biome, you’re gonna need to keep cool. The Desert Biome hat is perfectly suited for that exact purpose! And the hinge lets you adjust the umbrella to shield you from the harsh sun. So while it’s not fashionable, it is functional.

Swamp Biome Hat

swamphatThe Swamp Biome Hat is a sight to behold. It’s basically a baby crocodile that lives on your head. Not only is it an interesting pet, it’s an attention-grabbing piece of headwear that never fails to impress. Observe the sly look in the crocodile’s eye, complemented by the faint, crafty, toothy smile. It just seems to give off a sort of charm you can’t find anywhere else. The crocodile is an animal renowned for lying in wait and springing to action when it needs to. This hat brings out the scheming, crafty demeanour often associated with crocodiles and adds on a bit of charm. This pays off greatly as the end result is a magnificent hat with the sort of charm that comes with any manipulative creature.

Lunar Biome Hat

lunarhatLooking for a futuristic headwear? Well, with the Lunar Biome Hat, you will never have to look ever again! Wait… no… whatever. This hat is certainly innovative. A clean wraparound blue hat topped off with a futuristic laser antenna. I have to say this has a rather simple design when compared to the others, but that’s really the point I suppose. This hat is meant to appear post-Earth, a time and place more advanced than what we have now, and it does its job well. I really appreciate the decor on this one. The single antenna with the glowy laser-ring things really capitalize on the whole future theme. In short: it’s simple, but effective.

Fire Biome Hat

firehatThe Fire Biome Hat is a tasteful piece of headwear. The geometry (and geography) of the entire thing is just stunning. I love the crater-like design and the pool of magma, but I especially love the winding streams of lava running down the sides. I also love the stark contrast between the dark earthy texture of the hat and the exquisite orange-red glow of the lava. But what I love most about this hat is how it captures the volatile, fiery nature of volcanoes. Volcanoes are essentially nature’s time bombs, they seem calm and then all of a sudden BOOM! You’re neck deep in molten lava. When you look at this hat, it seems serene and calm, but there’s a certain element of suspense in there as well. As if the hat could burst into flames at any moment. THAT is what volcanoes are all about, and this hat does a brilliant job at capturing it.

Crystal Biome Hat

crystalhatFirstly, I have to say the Crystal Biome Hat is beautiful. There’s something about it that just seems to radiate feminine grace. It almost seems like a crown for a royal princess. The slight glow from the crystal even gives it a magic-ish type feel. But unfortunately, while it is beautiful, it seems to lack originality. The other biome hats are all unique, and extremely original. It may be because the other hats set the bar too high, but in comparison, the Crystal Biome Hat seems rather bland and boring. Nonetheless, it does have its merits. The aforementioned feminine aura gives it a somewhat magical element, and the shades of pink and purple complement each other nicely. So all in all, the hat is beautiful, but it fails to measure up to the other hats in terms of originality.

So there you have it: all seven Realms-inspired biome hats reviewed and recognized for the fashion statements they are. Which one’s your favorite? 😀
