PHB Parties

The PHB’s 11 Million Hits Party: Recap

Hey Poptropicans! We hope you had a blast at the PHB’s celebration for 11 million hits, where we visited Multiverse rooms and you guys got to hang out with PHB authors and other Poptropicans on the PHC! Was your Poptropican one of the many faces that filled the Poptropica party rooms? 😀

11m party recap

Along with chatting with lots of PHB staff (Sam, HP, Blake, Fuzzy-B, and me, Fishy) and jumping with balloons on Poptropica, we also had a fun time playing Doodle Race on the PHC (thanks, Evan!), where we drew according to the given word and voted on the best doodles. Much Obi hax from the skilled artists among us! 😉 Plus, HP designed a new chat background just for the occasion. 😀

Whether or not you were able to come to the party, we’ve got another treat for you guys that you may have seen on our site: the PHB’s 11 Million Monster Raffle! All you have to do is comment on the Raffle post (click the image below to get there) with something special about you and the PHB for your chance to win one of 11 awesome rare Monster Carnival costumes, so go for it! 😀

Anyway, thanks to those of you who came (there were at least 40 on at one point!). We hope you had a great time! And to all of you reading this blog, thanks for visiting the PHB and enjoying Poptropica and the community with us – we couldn’t have gotten this far without you guys. ❤ Stay popping, Poptropicans.

PHB Specials

PHB Sunday Special: 2048, Poptropica Edition!

If you’ve played 2048, you’ve probably gotten hooked to the simplicity of the tile-sliding and the desire to reach that elusive 2048 tile – but if you haven’t played, now’s the time to find out what all the hype is about: by playing the PHB-created 2048, Poptropica Edition! Just click the image below to start the addiction, or scroll down for instructions if you aren’t familiar with the game. 😛

2048 Poptropica Edition

To play 2048: Poptropica Edition, you’ll need to click here to visit this external website (link also in image). It’s a simple single-player online game where you slide tiles either up, down, left, or right by using your arrow keys. Every time two of the same tiles meet, they’ll merge to form a new tile of the next tier (example: in the original version, 2 + 2 = 4; in our version, you’ll get a new Poptropica picture for every new tier). Your goal is to get to the last tile, which is the 11th tier.

You can see what all the Poptropica Edition tiles look like in the image above – the last 8 are pics of the PHB authors’ Poptropicans! Here’s all of them: 1) Poptropica Problems Meme character, 2) Link of Legend of Zelda from our Costumes page, 3) Captain Crawfish, 4) Brave Tomato, 5) Shaggy Tornado, 6) Blake, 7) Fuzzy-B, 8) Angry Wing, 9) Samwow5, 10) HPuterpop, 11) Slanted Fish.

(Note: This game is completely fan-made and is not a product of the Poptropica Creators. However, feel free to share this around! We hope you enjoy it!)

So, have you made it to the elusive Slanted Fish tile yet? What’s the furthest tile you’ve gotten to, and what’s your high score? Let us know in the comments if you’ve ever raged over 2048! 😀

Sneak Peeks

PHB Sneak Peeks: Upcoming Friendly Features

Spoiler warning: If you don’t want to learn what some of the upcoming features on Poptropica will be, then don’t read this post. If you do, however, then read on! (Note: Just because this post has been made does not mean the Creators will scrap a project they’ve worked hard on! No hate, please.)

Spoiler5

Still here? Ready to get a sneak peek into the future of Poptropica? Here we go, let the post begin!

Through some recently uncovered pictures, we may have a look at some of Poptropica’s upcoming features! Here we have an example of what will come to be known as a Badge Album when it is released. This one specific album is part of a bigger feature to be released.

Spoiler1

There you have it! It appears that there will be an addition to the Friends feature in the near future. It features your Poptropica Avatar, your name, your battle ranking, and your Island Medallions. But what are those at the bottom? Those would be the various Badge Albums.

Spoiler4

There are four types of badges that you can earn: Collector, Socializer, Explorer, and Competitor. If I had to guess, I would assume that each  badge type was related to the following aspects of the game:

  • Collector relates to either how many items you have, or how many hidden items you have found within the game.
  • Socializer relates to how many friends you have, how much time you spend in common rooms, or how many times you chat and battle.
  • Explorer relates to how many islands that you have started or completed.
  • Competitor relates to your battle ranking/how many mini-games you have won, how many island medallions you have won, or how many times you have completed each island.

There is also another little feature hidden away in this new way to show off all of your achievements, a way to not show off your achievements! In the bottom left corner, you can see this privacy lock.

spoiler3

This allows for you to hide your Friends page and profile. You can either have your profile shown to everyone, just your friends, or (presumably) not at all.

Spoiler2

It appears that only time will tell all of the secrets that this badge feature has hidden away.

What do you think of all of this, are you excited to collect some badges? Are you gonna try to earn every badge? How do you even earn badges? Are you going to hide away all of your stats or show them off to the world? Sound off bellow with your thoughts about this new feature.

Advertisements, Bonus Items

The elusive iPad handheld: how it came to be, and how I’m going to put the rumors to rest (UPDATED)

Blake tab

What’s popping, Poptropicans? I just wanted to pop in to say, there is no promo code for the iPad handheld – because it comes from an ad.

Those who have been lucky to get it (including myself & Poptropica blogger Nameless UnDEFiNed) have reported that it was obtained from watching a video ad on a non-SUI (islands without sound), such as Skullduggery. You can friend me (Blake) at mickety2 to see proof, or check out the picture to the right. (update: it’s no longer in my hand, but the picture should be proof enough!)

But now the plot thickens — another Poptropican, H.C.M, reports that he emailed Poptropica asking about the tablet handheld and was told it didn’t exist, completely contradicting the evidence above. Here’s the reply he got (but was it faked? the link to the Creators’ Blog is wrong):

doesn't exist

(Hey, at least the PHB was referenced – kind of!) In addition to the above proof, Nameless notes that the SWF for the tablet handheld is uploaded on Poptropica’s servers, meaning the item has definitely been created. The item has since disappeared from my inventory, although I still retain the tablet in my Poptropican’s hand. (update: it’s gone; see above)

Remember what happened with the Virus Hunter Island promo game, Nano-Combat Training? Brave Tomato discovered it in the Store early, and there was even an ad for it on the homepage, but it was pulled down for a while before it came back for real again. If this situation is anything like that, then maybe the Creators are just denying their mistake of accidentally releasing it early and are possibly planning to bring it back at a later date. I certainly hope so, at least! 😛

Also, HP has found the video stand for the card in Poptropica’s files! Here’s what it looks like:

However, the comments have told me that this ad is no longer available, and has been replaced by the Dragons: Defenders of Berk ad. Hopefully we’ll see it return soon…

iPad Handheld, Children’s Book Week, and Luckiest Guy

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

I hope you liked my last post featuring a bunch of interesting Poptropica-related stuff compiled together, because this time it’s even more exciting! 😀

Return of the iPad Handheld

PHB viewer raqk recently found the item card for the rumored iPad handheld, or Poptropica App Tablet! I guess this proves that it is in fact real (or, that the Creators got the idea from us? 😛 ).

app

Anyway, we don’t know how to get it yet (is it an ad? a promo code?). Blake says you can get it from watching an ad, but this does not seem to work for the SUI video ads. (thanks for the pic, Pixel)

If you have found a way to get it, please tell us in the comments (and be specific)! 😀

Children’s Book Week

You may have noticed that there is a new section in the update carousel on your Home page. It’s for “Children’s Book Week” and the Children’s Choice Awards, where you can vote for your favorite illustrators, authors, and books of the year!

On the list is Poptropica’s very own Jeff Kinney (author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books), Rick Riordan (who wrote the Percy Jackson series), and more. Jeff is in 2nd place, while Rick is in first.

You can check out the polls and vote for yourself here — remember to vote for Jeff (or Rick 😛 )!

Longer Ad Streets

Has anyone else noticed that ad streets (those small pages in between scenes that house an advertisement) have become bigger? Check out the picture below for an example.

Download the “Luckiest Guy” Font

So what, you say. A new font. I don’t care. Now wait a second! The “Luckiest Guy” font is a nearly symmetrical alternative to the renowned (and expensive) Ghost Kid AOE font, which if you didn’t know costs $20. Why Ghost Kid AOE? Well, it’s the typeface used on the Poptropica logo.

luckytoghost

The one on top is Luckiest Guy, the one on the bottom is Ghost Kid. There are some differences, but they are very similar, and you can download Luckiest Guy here. 😉 Credit goes to Pixel for finding the font. 🙂 Btw, check out the PHB’s Poptropica Fonts page for more fonts Poptropica uses!

New Smilies

As you may have noticed, WordPress has updated their smilies to a more modern style (although I personally still like the old ones better). There’s a few new ones, however. WordPress has compiled a little chart showing all the different smileys and what they do!

Also, check out the PHB’s Typing Tricks page for a list of the smilies and more ways to type. 😀

So, tell me — do you like these kinds of posts, with more content less often, or the old posts, with less content more often? Tell me in the comments. 😀
