Jump, duck, and dodge! – DuckTales ad

Hello, everyone!

It’s Lucky Joker here to show you a pretty cool advertisement on Poptropica Original for Disney XD’s Duck Tales, which you can find on Home Island.

Poptropica Duck Tales

In this ad, there are three levels to be completed to be able to earn the prizes. You’ll have the option to choose your favorite duck to play as for all three. I chose Louie because he wears my favorite color. 😛

Anyway, go on inside and talk to Webby to start up the first mini-game.

Like many ad games we’ve seen before, this one is really simple. All you have to do is click and hold down your mouse to the right to run while jumping over any obstacles—which include chairs, statues, and bookcases.

Poptropica Duck Tales 2

The second and third levels are exactly identical, besides the setting. The goal is to dodge all of the fish/aerial crafts to the end (you can keep track with the progress bar) without losing all of your lives (the smiley faces).

After successfully completing all three levels, you’ll win Webby, Dewey, Louie, and Huey followers as well as a Talisman Power card!

Well, that’s all for now. Thanks for reading, as always! Talk to you in the next one.

Store

Store stock simplified, with prices amplified

Hey Poptropicans! It’s Slanted Fish, splashing in to report that there’s been several changes to the store on Poptropica Original lately.

Last week, the Creators mentioned they’d be updating the shop every month, and three formerly member-exclusive items made a return: the Berry Scary Monkey follower, the Beachgoer costume, and the Sea Captain costume. And now… there’s more, but at the same time, there’s less. Take a look at the current shop stock:

As you can tell, there are more formerly retired items that have returned to the store, and at the same time, there are less items in the store than there have been before—many gold cards and costumes have been chucked out, and what you see is all that’s left.

On top of all that, prices have risen dramatically, with most items costing several hundred credits (but still free for members). Here’s all of what’s in the store right now:

Gold Cards

  • Earth Day shirt (75 credits)
  • Smiley Potion (375 credits)
  • Binary Rain, Game Show Island (375 credits)
  • Lucky Shamrock Flavor PopGum (375 credits)
  • Multiverse (0 credits)
  • Hammerhead Shark costume (350 credits)
  • Outlaw costume (350 credits)
  • Robot Dance, Game Show Island (375 credits)
  • Sea Captain costume (250 credits)
  • Beachgoer costume (250 credits)
  • Berry Scary Monkey follower (350 credits)
  • Dr. Hare costume (500 credits)
  • Spiked Bounce Ball costume, from Shrink Shot (250 credits)
  • Zombify! power, from Haunted House (375 credits)
  • (now members only) Mini Dr. Hare follower (400 credits)
  • (now members only) Fart Gun (375 credits)
  • (now members only) Cool Kid power (surrounds you with stars), from Cool Kid plush toy (375 credits)
  • (now members only) Shrink Ray (375 credits)
  • (now members only) Mini Hamburger follower, from Pocketeer toy (350 credits)

Costumes

  • Candy Bar (250 credits)
  • (now members only) Fairy Queen (girls only)(350 credits)
  • Gamer Dude/Girl (250 credits)
  • (now members only) Ice Cream (250 credits)
  • (now members only) Large Fry (250 credits)
  • Leprechaun (350 credits)
  • Mythology Surfer (350 credits)
  • Prom King/Queen (350 credits)
  • (now members only) Rock Star 2 (350 credits)
  • (now members only) Soda Pop (250 credits)

So… this is pretty different. On one hand, it’s cool to see a lot of exclusive items returning to the store, particularly for those who hadn’t had the chance to grab them before. On the other hand, this update has cleaned out a lot of other items from the store, limiting our options. My guess is that the Creators wanted to simplify the selection, considering how long the list of items in both categories were before, but it’s sad to see old favorites go.

Then there’s the fact that a number of items that were formerly available to everyone have been made members only. If you had these items before and are not a member, don’t worry—you can still use them. However, this membership barrier feels a little Poptropica Worlds, which is something I’ve written on before. Anyway, all items are free for members on Pop Original—so it’s odd that these items are given prices in the non-member’s store view.

That brings us to the price hikes. In the past, gold card items have tended to be around 250–350 credits, and now we’re seeing plenty that are 375 or higher. Costumes used to be around 75 credits each, though there have been some cases where they were higher. Now, they’re more in the 250–350 range. This does make some sense with the Daily Spin Wheel that was introduced two years ago, which makes it easier to rack up credits than in years past. Still, it’s quite an adjustment.

What are your thoughts on all the new changes to the Poptropica Original store? What items would you still like to see? Leave a comment for the Creators and for us!

Keep on popping, Poptropicans.

Pop Fan Artist Spotlights

Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: treesareredinautumn

Hello, Poptropicans!

It’s Lucky Joker here featuring another Poptropica fan’s artwork in another Pop Fan Artist SpotlightLast time, I showcased the amazing art of BlazingAngel123. The featured artist this time around is the one and only treesareredinautumn! (Best pseudonym ever, in my opinion. 😛 )

Treesareredinautumn has made tons of Poptropica art in the past, and though she admits that her Pop art is kind of old, it’s still worth a look. Her Poptropica-related artwork includes everything from portrait requests to large scenic illustrations—all of them truly sublime. Check out this collection of her artwork below:

Her work is spectacular, isn’t it?

She says she’s inspired by imaginary worlds, the beauties of nature and the creativity of people around her, and that her favorite part about art is being able to create something from nothing and bring enjoyment to other people. Delightful!

And there’s plenty more where that came from. You can check out her DeviantArt gallery to view all of her other awe-inspiring masterpieces, which includes more Poptropica fan art and even works inspired by other things!

To close off this post, here’s an insight from treesareredinautumn herself about her creative process:

It starts with an idea. Whether it be a fully fleshed out concept of the final, or simply the desire to draw something. This is followed by trying and failing to transmit the idea to paper, while coming up with new ideas along the way. My drawings never quite come out the way I expect them to, but that’s half the fun. When colouring I generally have to try several times before I get it right, but it’s worth the effort!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this look into another Poptropica fan’s artwork! Perhaps you’re even inspired to make Poptropica fan art yourself. If you’ve created some of your own, we’d love for you to share it on our DeviantArt group gallery at We-Love-Poptropica!

Store

Is creative content a myth?

Hello, everyone!

It’s Lucky Joker here today with somewhat interesting news from the Creators’ Blog. First off, a new Outfit of the Week post has made its way onto the blog—the Mythology Surfer.

Considering that it’s just one entire costume straight out of the store (rather than a unique costume made up of a collection of different pieces), it doesn’t seem especially worth highlighting, other than the fact that it’s returning to the store. Why not just add multiple item cards to the store at once and post about that?

Outfit of the Week - Mythology Surfer

There is a positive to this post, though, in my opinion.

At the end, you can see they’ve included a trivia question about the costume, and I’m a sucker for all things trivia. I did comment my answer earlier this morning, but it’s still not visible, most likely due to not being approved yet.

Also on the Creators’ Blog is a post called “Guess the Island.” It’s pretty self-explanatory: a picture is posted, and we guess which island it’s taken from.

Guess the Island

Looks a lot like the Stolen Snapshots series hosted by former PHB author Slippery Raptor, and also one that Silver Wolf used to host on her blog, Poptropica Tips for Poptropicans.

I also commented my answer under this post, but no sign of approval for visibility yet. Which island do you think this screenshot came from?

Well, that’s it for now! What do you think of the recent posts on the Creators’ Blog? I think we’ve seen better days, but I am appreciative of the effort, and I do like trivia. 😛

Thanks for reading, as always! Talk to you in the next one.

Costume Comebacks and Flashy Questions

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with news about Store updates and answered concerns!

Just today the Creators posted about some updates coming to the Store, saying that every month items will be added, old or new. And so far, they have proven themselves…

shop

Three items have been added to the Store on Poptropica Original, all of which are Member exclusives from old islands. These include the Berry Scary Monkey follower from Monkey Wrench Island, the Beachgoer costume from Wimpy Boardwalk Island, and the Sea Captain costume from S.O.S. Island:

Added Cards

So far, I’m pretty excited about this idea. After all, we’ve all been wanting at least some update to Poptropica, and hey, Store items are a start. I especially like that fact that old items are being brought back for those who missed them.

The Creators are also asking for feedback about what you would like to see added next through their new comment system. Lucky Joker recommended some items like the Steamworks Mech Pilot costume and Vampire Count costume, and I recommended costumes from some of the earliest islands, as many of us didn’t play when the game was first created. What do you want? Leave it in their comments (and ours)!

Not only are updates being announced on the Creators’ Blog, but they are being announced on Poptropica’s Twitter (@Poptropica), too. One of the most pressing questions that has been on all of our minds for awhile now is what is going to happen to Poptropica when Flash ends in 2020, and @FordGaile finally got an answer:

It looks like the Creators are planning to transfer everything over to Poptropica Worlds or somehow avoid the Flash issue, which is very good news. Perhaps all of our progress on Poptropica won’t be lost after all!

The second most pressing question we’ve had is about what has been happening to Realms since its disappearance months ago, and this time @georgiemendes03 got an answer for us:

This may mean that Realms had a serious bug or that some big changes are going to be made, but at least it will be back! Additionally, the Creators announced that they’re “working on a lot of new stuff” and to check the Creators’ Blog often, and the somewhat pesky ads for old islands are for the “tons of new players” coming to Poptropica.

Despite our worries about Poptropica fading out, if what the Creators said is true, it’s actually doing the opposite. Still, that begs the question: why the recent staff cuts? As Skinny Moon (@PopGirlJess) recently tweeted, the team “got drastically cut down.” So what’s really going on?

What do you think of old items coming back to the store? Any theories on what Poptropica is going to do to adapt to Flash ending in 2020? Leave your comments below!
