Reality is a lovely place… but Poptropica is a better one.

Following into the travels of Dr. Hare, last week we saw him posed in front of yet another ferris wheel. As our blog readers correctly predicted, he was touring London, England, with landmarks like the London Eye and Big Ben behind him! And now, here’s another shot at the same location, but with a different angle, so you get a glimpse of St. Paul’s Cathedral as well.

It’s cool how Poptropica is showing how they can extend to be bigger than just something on your computer screen – the things you can learn from Poptropica are part of the real world too! And, you can apply real world things to Poptropica…

That’s Hermione, Harry Potter, and Ron in Poptropica form! As you may know, the PHB has its own Costumes page, a collection of images of creative costumes you can put on. Someone recently submitted this great picture, and if you’re interested in more, click here.

Also, two Poptropica Creators’ names were recently discovered and added to our database. They are Nate Tufts, Illustrator/Designer working for Poptropica (see his blog) and Nasan Hardcastle, creates and designs artwork for Poptropica.com (see his blog).

On a final note, as I mentioned before, I may have less time to blog here since high school has started, so although you may see less frequent posts from me, I hope the rest of the authors will continue to bring you guys the news in a timely and awesome fashion. I will still be around to work behind the scenes to ensure the blog is updated well. 🙂

PHB Parties, Web Development

3|THREE: Happy birthday, PHB! *inflates balloons*

Three years. We have come this far.

Three Spree!

Three years ago on July 26th, 2008, the Poptropica Help Blog was created by an 11-year-old girl and the support of her younger brother, collectively known, as some old-timers may recall, ‘Scary Tomato’ (the Poptropican’s name), then later as ‘Hijuyo.’ It turned out the girl was mostly the one running the blog, so she started going under the name ‘Hijuyo’ independently and writing posts with other hired blog authors.

Three years later it’s July 26th, 2011, Hijuyo is now 14, the blog has over 5 million views, a great community, and awesome contributors everywhere. We have invited everyone who wanted to come celebrate, and come they did. The PHB just celebrated their big 3|Three party on our chatroom, the PHC, and met in Multiverse with tons of supporters coming to inflate their “3” balloons (of varying sizes!) from Poptropica’s own 3rd birthday. It was also our third Author Night, and people were able to meet and talk with some of our great PHB authors. Hicoga made a video of the party you can watch here.

These three years were also Hijuyo’s three middle school years, and though I would probably never delete the PHB, high school would mean I may have less time here. Which is why, for everyone’s enjoyment, the PHB comments are now set so that a comment made can immediately go through instead of me having to manually approve them. Hopefully this will bring more discussion in each post as people can read and respond to each other quickly – however, authors will still need to monitor the comments to make sure they don’t get out of hand and everyone has to be responsible in following commenting rules. I will still be around, although I do hope everyone in the community does their part in helping the PHB continue to prosper.

Long live the PHB and the rest of the network!

The Official Guide to Poptropica!

It’s EP here for a new post. How’s everyone doing? Cruising? Enjoying the summer? That’s nice! I’m almost too lazy today to get out of my video game lounge playing meh xbox to type up a new post :P. But here it goes, the creators have announced the official guide to Poptropica.

Merchandising for the game was hinted some time ago, around a year, in a post on this blog about future products like backpacks and books. I don’t remember who posted it or how they got to it, but I remember the clue was inside a post about a news article on the web interviewing someone that worked on Poptropica. Well, now it’s finally here! Check it out:

Announcing the Poptropica guidebook!

It’s true: Poptropica: The Official Guideis coming! This full-color guidebook contains walkthroughs for most Poptropica Islands, behind-the-scenes looks at how an Island is made, and quotes from the Poptropica Creators. Poptropica: The Official Guide will be released on October 13. For a special sneak preview, visit the Poptropica guidebook page on Amazon.com for a special preview: an interview with Jeff Kinney, Poptropica creator and Diary of a Wimpy Kid author!

October 13th??? Whatttttt? Are they not done editing it or publishing it or something? We’ll have to wait months before we can get an actual copy of this book. I can’t wait to find out what’s inside. I don’t know if they’d include island guides, but maybe only tips and info on the islands. A guide might spoil the fun and surprise perhaps.

On the cover of the book is a Poptropican swinging on a rope…don’t fall. I just felt like saying that ;). The cover also shows various Poptropica characters and a location situated on Mythology Island. You can get read an exclusive interview with Jeff Kinney on the amazon webpage. Cannot wait to obtain my own copy of this book now :). What do you think? Will you buy it? Comment below.

Old news is an oxymoron

One of the greatest things about the summer season: no school! So what are you going to do with all that spare time? Well, if you’ve found that lately your life has mostly been about sleep, food, and the computer, why not check out the new website for the Poptropica Help Chat (PHC)?

chat.poptropicahelp.net

There are links in the side navigation, so there’s no excuse for not knowing the Rules, understanding the Ranks if you’re new, and reading up on the Wall is just a click away! (*Edit: For some unknown reason the links have stopped working; will try to get it fixed ASAP)

Don’t feel too overwhelmed, the Poptropica community is a great place to be. If you’ve finished reading the day’s blog post on the PHB and want to stay longer, you might find some other Poptropicans online on the PHC! As long as you respect the people and the rules, you’re always welcome. You don’t even have to talk about Poptropica there.

The live chatroom does have moderators, so it’s a safe environment as well. So, whether it’s your first time at the PHC or whether you’re a regular, come check out the all-new chat.poptropicahelp.net and keep using it!

Partyin’Partyin’YEAH!

On Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the PHC will be throwing a huge party to celebrate the Flamin’ Skulls’ 1-and-a-half-year existence. There will be Multiverse parties, rocking out with music, and more chatting! Hijuyo, Popular Thunder, and plenty of people will be there, and we hope to see you too! Depending on your time zone, this is when the party will be happening (if your time zone is not listed, check with a converter to see what time it means for you):

  • 10-10:30 pm CST USA
  • 11- 11:30 pm EST USA
  • 8-8:30 PST pm USA
  • 11 to 11:30 am Hong Kong time (June 23)

CC: Uh, is the ad done yet? I have a post I wanted to get to.
Hijuyo: Seriously, did you have to interrupt? Well, why don’t you join the PHC too? 🙂
CC: I… okay, I’ll say it. I’m afraid I’ll get nommed there.
Hijuyo: HAHA! Sorry. Nah, don’t worry. That’s more of a PHB thing. The PHC doesn’t bite.
CC: Really? You think so? *wipes tear*
Hijuyo: Eh, as long as you behave, you’re good. 😛
CC: Ooh! Yay! Sounds good. So anyway, here’s the post. *dramatic hand gesture pointing downwards*

The 20 rarest items in Poptropica, part 2

To celebrate the launch of our 20th Island, Shrink Ray Island, we’re counting down the 20 rarest items in Poptropica history.

16. Astro-Knights Medallion

Astro-Knights is one of the toughest Islands we’ve made, so it’s no surprise that not many Poptropicans have this medallion in their inventory. But it’s not out of reach! All you need is a little perseverance.

15. Goofy Glasses

Another treasure hunt item, the goofy glasses were briefly available in the sewers of Super Power Island. But if you missed out then, you can still get them in the eyeglasses shop on Spy Island!

14. Wild West Hero

All Poptropica Members who played the cattle-rustlin’ preview game for Wild West Island were granted this exclusive Wild West Hero outfit. But this wasn’t even the most rare item from that game!

13. Sunglasses

The sunglasses were briefly available on top of Pendulum’s lab on Time Tangled Island. The dark glasses will return, however! Players who get the Spy Island 3″ action figures will receive a code that will allow them to wear a Spy Agent costume that includes these killer shades. To be continued tomorrow!

CAPTAIN CRAWFISH
Hijuyo: Haha, I remember those hidden items from oh-so-long-ago.
CC: Good, can you explain it to me? Because I don’t remember them at all.
Hijuyo: You weren’t even around then, smart one. They were released for a short while during August 2008. Yeah, pretty old.
CC: Can I admit something to you?
Hijuyo: Yeah, sure, Cap’n.
CC: I think I like the goofy glasses more. *giggles*
Hijuyo: Can’t imagine that. *slips a pair of sunglasses over CC’s eyes* Don’t you think these shades are cooler?
CC: Hey yeahhhh… I look good!

*fangirls spot him, scream, and huge mob chases after CC*

Chase

 CC: …Time to go.
