(P)interesting ads: Home ‘Oh’ follower & more

Hey Poptropicans! On Main Streets of SUIs like Time Tangled, you can find an ad for the upcoming Dreamworks movie Home. Watching the trailer awards you a follower of the alien character “Oh” from the film (who has the voice of Sheldon Cooper!). (thanks for the tip, Cuddly Knuckle)

Over on the Poptropica mobile app, there’s also an ad for Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb! In the mini-game, all you have to do is keep running right and jumping over museum artifacts to avoid the suddenly-alive triceratops skeleton. Once you’ve carried the tablet to safety, you’ll be awarded a Dexter Rider and costume (Cleopatra for girls, Sir Lancelot for boys).

That’s not the only app update – Survival Ep. 5 (“Escape!”) is now free on iOS! That means that they’ve now gotten rid of all in-app purchases, and every downloadable island is now free.

By the way, thanks to the Poptropica Creators’ official Pinterest for the Night at the Museum pics above! We’ve mentioned this social media venture before, but since then, Master Mime (Jon Pitcher) has really taken off with the whole Pinterest movement, from pinning St. Patrick’s Day signs in the Poptropica font to linking to the PHB’s Comics page (where you can read Mystery of the Map in its entirety!).

So spread the word: follow Poptropica on Pinterest! 😀

Plus, check out this behind-the-scenes early art for Arabian Nights, Episode 3 – another shot of the “unimpressed teenage daughter” princess with her “clueless dad” the sultan. If you haven’t already, you’ll want to read BT’s theory, because word is that even the illustrator of this piece confirms it’s “dead on” with the island’s story!

Stay tuned to the PHB for what’s popping in Poptropica! 🙂

Mystery of the Map (p. 5-7), Jorge’s name, & more!

Salutations, Poptropicans! Omegon here- *takes off Omegon mask* Ugh, why did I resort to buying this thing off the convention floor? This thing smells like bad cheese. And I should know, I attend the World Cheese Festival every year, I’ve tasted 37 kinds.

Anyway, what’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, bringing you pages 5 through 7 of Mystery of the Map! Click to enlarge the pictures.

Interesting! Now, I’m assuming that our four heroes are entering the world of Poptropica? Looks like this is the origin story I requested from Poptropica!

By the way, for those wondering, the Creators pronounce Jorge’s name “hor-hey”, not “George” – but “you can pronounce it any way you wish”. 🙂

Stay tuned for more pages as they’re released!

In other news, the Poptropica mobile app recently reached 2 million downloads! Congrats! 😀

Also, Poptropica composer Jeff Heim recently posted the “Crystal Realm” soundtrack on his Soundcloud. Plus, keep an eye out for more of his music, because he says he’ll “be posting more from Realms over the next few weeks”!

Nice. Peaceful. Tranquil.

Lastly, there’s a new banner for Membership on the Poptropica homepage:

For more info on what it means to be a Poptropica Member, as well as some help on deciding whether it’s worth it, we’ve got a Poptropica Membership Tour right here on the PHB. 😉

Stay popping, Poptropicans.

Realms announcement, GHD interactive ad, & more

Hey guys, BT here –

Yeah, I know. I haven’t posted since November. Yell at me all you want.

Anyway, remember how the official Poptropica Twitter page teased us with something called Poptropica Realms? Well, the kindly Creators over on the official blog, fresh from their winter hiatus, have just officially announced this updated version of Land – starting with a video trailer:

Although not revealing much new, the trailer looks like it would hype willing players (even non-members!) to take the challenge to see what they can do.

Also, there is an official tour page for Realms, which hasn’t changed much from the Lands page besides the new title and video. This is intriguing – and although it’ll be open to everyone, members do get bonus benefits according to the official description:

Everyone can create and explore Poptropica Realms, but only Poptropica Members can unlock its true power! With Membership, create even more new Realms, and share your creations with the Poptropica Creators. You’ll also get exclusive props and decorations to make your Realms truly unique.

We know we’ll get to create new worlds and planets to share with people, but I wonder what other new things Realms will give to the table that Lands didn’t already…

The Creators have released yet another Galactic Hot Dogs sponsored quest video on their official YouTube account, this one for a new ad that’s on Main Streets.

Thanks to Slippery Raptor for the pics & insight into the ad –

The exterior of the advertisement shows the Neon Wiener with a smoking large hole behind it. When you enter, a short clip will play, showing the Neon Wiener blasting off into space.

Inside, you can talk to Humphree on your right and F.R.E.D on your left. Moving along, there are a couple of dummies (Cosmoe and Humphree for boys; Princess Dagger and Evil Queen Dagger for girls) you can Costumize from. To your right, Princess Dagger and Cosmoe are guarding the Mega Dog. By clicking on the door to the right, you’ll shoot lasers with two Jacks, Cosmoe, and Princess Dagger.

Isn’t GHD Island supposed to come out some time this month? Hmm…

In other news, the first Arabian Nights episode, How Bazaar (“and robbed from afar!” Okay, I need to stop lyrical connections…) is now available for FREE on iOS devices!

(For Android users, “How Bazaar” has already been released.)

One more thing before I go – according to Poptropica’s tweet, this is “Early concept pencil art. For something. Something February-ish.”

Could it be the cover for the Poptropica comic graphic novel? Is that guy in the blimp… cutting the rope from the protagonists? Uh-oh…

On that note, BT out!

App

Hold your horses, there are Poptropica English apps!

Hey Poptropicans! Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

Although it doesn’t seem to have been mentioned anywhere, there’s a Poptropica English app out there for iOS devices – and it’s created by Pearson Education, the company that owns Poptropica. It’s targeted to 6-11 year-olds and is free on the App Store, but comes with in-app purchases.

The game is populated with Poptropica characters and contains mini-games such as City Hub, Word Factory, Word Race, and Word Tower. If you’re looking to brush up on elementary-level English vocabulary, or know someone who might want to, check it out!

UPDATE: There’s another one! Thanks to PHB reader Why are you reading my name for the tip. It’s also by Pearson, and it’s called Our Discovery Island: Phonic Tricksters. You can get it on the App Store or Google Play for free, but it does contain in-app purchases.

In Phonic Tricksters, the Tricksters (masked Poptropicans) are stealing English letter-sounds (phonemes) and you can catch them by taking photos with your phone camera. This game is for ages 4 and up. Unlike the other app, this one doesn’t seem to explicitly say the characters are Poptropicans.

In other news, the PHC (Poptropica Help Chat) recently had a (hopefully more eye-pleasing) makeover! If you haven’t already, check out the PHB’s Christmas party 2014 recap, which includes a video introduction to the PHC community and the things we get up to. Think of it as the PHC trailer. 😉

Also, I’ve changed my Poptropican’s look, which you may see around various places, including the new PHB Twitter header. The maroon hair matches my scarf! Rad. 😎

Plus, the PHB recently hit 15 million views! Stay tuned for a special treat… 😀

App, Arabian Nights Island, Glitches

Poptropica for your Kindle Fire & Plundered Armor for members!

Hi Gs,

I wanted to make a quick post for the Kindle Fire users of the community – I also own a Kindle Fire – to tell them that they can in fact install Poptropica on their Kindle Fire (it’s free, too!). Watch the video below (I apologize for the poor quality of the screen recordings).

The only drawback to this is that you won’t be able to make in app purchases (basically, you won’t be able to install the islands that cost money).

Anyway, I hope you find this tutorial helpful – if you did, consider subscribing to my YouTube channel – I make gaming stuff, art stuff, and Poptropica stuff, so you may want to check it out. 😉

By the way, members can now collect a new free costume – Plundered Armor, available in the Store for Arabian Nights: Ep. 2 (Lair of Thieves), coming out this Thursday for members. Plus, check out the PHB’s Behind the Scenes: Overview & Theory for Arab Ep. 2: Lair of Thieves to get an idea about what’s coming up! We’ll have a guide for the episode as soon as possible. 🙂
