Brand new App-dates & Advertisements!

Hello Poptropicans! Slip here.popapplogo

Yesterday, the Poptropica app received an unexpected update. Read on below for more details!

The first thing you’ll notice is the new app icon featuring Dr. Hare holding a balloon. It’s not a big deal but it’s awesome to point out. 🙂

More on the update, Timmy Failure Island is now added to the Map. It’s not yet open to all players but it bears an important message. You can now enter the code BURRITO to unlock the Señor Burrito Follower!

More on the update, Poptropica has added three new mobile exclusive costume packs to the Store! They’re not for free but are available for $0.99. The Dangerous Agents Pack contains the Secret Agent, Hazmat Suit and Reporter costumes; the Athletes pack contains the Wrestler, Gymnast and Track Star costumes; and the World and Space Explorers pack contains the Space Suit, Safari Suit and Miner costumes. That’s all of the updates on the app! 🙂

Speaking of the Poptropica app, PHB reader Anonymous told me that there was a new ad on the app. It’s the CapriSun PushPlay ad! The app doesn’t appear for me, though. (It is probably due to it being exclusive to players in US or maybe within an age group.) Credits to Anonymous for providing the pictures! 🙂

Speaking of advertisements, there are new Captain Underpants prizes waiting for you when you log-in to Poptropica! The smelly and superb prizes are the Stink Power and the Super Hero cape! The Stink Power shows the Captain Underpants logo and then your player farts after saying “Say hello to my stinky friends!” while the Super Hero cape flies you up and across your screen with the logo!

There’s also a Disney Infinity 3.0 advertisement featuring the teaser for the 3.0 update. You just need to watch the trailer and you’ll receive the Disney Infinity Gear with matching shades!

That’s all for this post! Make sure to grab your Timmy Failure poster before it’s gone forever! 😛

App-date with chat, Balloons, MotM Island & costumes!

Hey Poptropicans, SFish here with news on the Poptropica app (P-App-tropica? I’m crediting fellow PHB authors Slippery Raptor & Spotted Dragon for the puns and pics in this post 😉 ).

App-arently, the Poptropica mobile app for iOS and Android has just gotten another app-date. The first thing you’ll notice is Dr. Hare’s app-solutely wacky Mystery of the Map assemblage on the icon. That’s because Mystery of the Map (MotM) Island was just added, for free – and if you need a walkthrough with pictures, check out our Mystery of the Map Island Guide!

In addition, two new costume packs were added, both for MotM Island. There’s the Mystery of the Map Bundle Pack, which is $0.99 like most costume packs on the app, and a second Viking Feast Pack which is free – and contains some new costumes that don’t exist in the online version: Gravy Gnasher, Bruised Basher, and Sausage Smasher!

Also, the Multiplayer Arcade (App-cade? Should I stop with the puns?) has been updated to include chat, which works slightly different from the online version. In the picture below from the Creators, you can see that when people ask you a pre-scripted question, you can choose to reply, give a greeting, compliment, or ask them a question.

And as you can see from the picture, the multiplayer game Balloons can now be played in the Arcade. (Hey, it’s Balloon Boy! He must be app-alled to find himself still in the sky after all this time…) For our walkthrough with tips, check out our Balloons Guide.

That’s a pretty big app-date for the app, but it’s not the only update going on in the Poptropica universe! In case you missed them, check out the PHB posts below for the latest happenings:

Stay popping, Poptropicans, and see you on the red carpet for the Poppies awards show coming up! 🙂

Poptropica also tweeted a couple of remarkable Realms you can visit with the Realms sharing feature: Fast Catfish’s Arabian palace (code: 9wqm9) and Serious Bird’s rendition of New York City, ‘New Pop City’ (code: 47z7x). Check out our Poptropica Realms Guide for tips on playing with Realms!

The final episode of Arabian Nights Island (Ep. 3: Careful What You Wish For) released to members last week, and it’s expected to release to everyone mid-July. Our written walkthrough is up on our Arabian Nights Island Guide, so if you need help, check that out! 🙂

Poptropica has also posted another Popstorm: #32, titled “Land of Mullets”.

The PHB’s unofficial Poptropica Creators Database was recently updated to re-organize the information we had, making it more readable and adding new relevant information. While there is some speculation in there, Poptropica has commented that telling us what’s right and what’s not would take the fun out of it, and that we should “embrace the mystery”! 😛 Check out the updated database!

Finally, if you haven’t already, go check out the latest issue of The POPCORN, our pop-pop-Poptropica fan magazine made by fans, for fans! For the first time ever, it’s available in PDF format, which means a better viewing experience. We would love to have your entries for the magazine (stories! fan art! and more!). If you’re interested, you’ll find instructions on how to send things in on our Magazines page – where you can also enjoy past issues of The POPCORN.

Escape from Monkeys and Balloons on mobile!

Hey Poptropicans! SR here.

I have big news for you today!

Remember the Daily Pop sneak peeks we had back in December about PopComics Island? Well, it didn’t turned out to be an island but instead, it became a mini-game advertisement on the Poptropica app! When you land on “Home Island”, you can spot the first mini-game called “Poptastic“. You may notice the balloon animals from the island Jorge and Oliver visited in the comics!

The game is quite simple. You just have to tap to pop the balloon animals on your screen before they get too close. The game runs for just 30 seconds then the animals will start to show up.

Here’s a tip: the red ones are the fastest, next are the green ones, then the blue ones, the yellow balloons and the purple ones the slowest. The green frog balloons also move from right to left.

When you successfully pop all the balloon animals, you will get a Balloon Animal Follower! There’s also a challenge left for us: can you beat the high scores 650, 600 and 580? I’m very curious on how these people got their scores in just thirty seconds. 😛

Anyways, here are some of the shots I took in-game! (Try clicking on the image to enlarge it.)

The second mini-game is called “Escape from Monkey Island”. The game is on the map and it is downloadable.

When you enter the mini-game, you may find a familiar scene—the wormhole that sucked Oliver and Jorge to Poptropica. You will be greeted by the monkeys of Monkey Island, telling you to leave and Oliver agrees with it. Jorge disagrees because he lost his things in the wormhole. Now, it’s your job to help him find it!

The game only runs for two minutes and the items are scattered around the temple.
Here are the locations of the items: the cheesy balls are by the temple entrance, the pants are on the tree at the top of the temple, the malt balls are on the tree far left of the temple, the soda is on the top right tree by the hot air balloon and the inhaler is just next to the hot air balloon. Now, click on the balloon to escape the island.

You will now receive the Coconut Power, which shoots coconuts similar to the monkey in Reality TV Island.

Here are the in-game photos!

You can also watch the new PopComics trailer! It looks awesome.

Last but not the least, we want to encourage everyone to help out in doing the island pages on Poptropica Wiki. It would be a great help!

Speaking of Poptropica Comics, why don’t you read UiPE and HP’s review on MotM Island? Don’t worry, the guide will be up soon, they’re working on it. 🙂

What do you guys think? Leave a comment below!

App, PHB Sneak Peeks

Arcade you not, big things are coming to the app!

Update: The Arcade (and more) is officially coming this Thursday!

appupdate

Bad puns aside, Poptropicans, something big is indeed coming to the Poptropica app, and it isn’t just the mobile version of Shrink Ray Island that Captain Crawfish mentioned. The Creators’ Blog will be announcing “a few huge new features” in the coming days, but thanks to a peek in the files from HPuterpop, we have seen one thing coming… a Multiplayer Arcade!

Check out those retro-style old-school arcade machines for the multiplayer games that have been around for years – Sky Dive, Star Link, and more. (Will we get to play them single-player?) Admire that high ceiling. Maybe even jump into one of those ball pits!

As you may have seen from the last screenshot, the Multiplayer Arcade will be to the right of the “Home” Island on the mobile app (the landing space that currently only exists on the app, not online). This marks the first update for multiplayer functionality for the app, and if Captain Crawfish is to be believed, this feature may be rolling out as early as this week!

By the way, hope you’re enjoying the new site header, featuring all eight of the current PHB staff! Plus, don’t forget to send something in for The POPCORN magazine. Stay popping, Poptropicans. 😀
