These non-player characters (NPCs) already exist in-game, but perhaps their costumes will inspire yours or help you find a costume part you like. These character reference sheets, by Poptropica artist Nasan Hardcastle, are organized by island (though not every island is featured). Note that some parts may not be customizable. Also, click to enlarge images!

Tips & Tricks

Need some Poptropica fashion advice? Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:

  1. 👖 Mix and match different costume parts together! That’s the beauty of it — you get to be original. The store is your go-to spot for the latest costumes, but you can also find lots of options with the Costumizer tool on PoptropiCon Island. Be careful not to mismatch, though: those goofy glasses probably aren’t going to go well with that fancy dress.
  2. 👔 Have a color scheme. Put colors that look good together, but don’t overdo it – you don’t need to have all the colors of the rainbow on you, or the colors may clash. One or two shades, possibly mixed in with some neutral colors (white, black, browns, grays), can pull off a pretty neat outfit.
  3. 👨🏼‍🎤 Skin: Regular human skin tones are your safest bet, unless you’re going for a bizarre Halloween costume or something. You can change your skin tone (and more) with Modify A Poptropican (MAP), a glitching tool.
  4. 💁🏻‍♀️ Hair: You probably don’t want yucky shades like greenish-brown, but whatever you pick, be sure it matches your outfit. Natural colors work best, but sometimes blue or purple hair can do the trick as well. To change hair color, visit 24 Carrot’s “Carrot King Diner” and mix a drink until you get the desired color. When you drink it, your hair color will change!
  5. 🧢 Accessorize. There are tons of accessories available within costumes. Don’t be afraid to try something on — if it doesn’t work out, you can just close the Costumizer window without saving. Add that belt, sword on the side, or those side bangs to complete the outfit you’re working on. Look around and you might just find something that matches. Be inspired by the above costumes, the ideas contained in the comments below, and what your friends are wearing — but make a look that’s uniquely yours, too.

Glitching for Good Looks

There’s a trick out there known as the ASG (Avatar Studio Glitch) that people use to obtain rare, un-Costumizable costumes. With the PHB’s Avatar Studio Gift, you’ll find lots of them, and we’re always adding more. Check it out!

Another unofficial tool for customizing your character is Modify A Poptropican (or MAP for short). Simply enter your login information (don’t worry, it’s safe), pick the parts you want to change on your character with help from this clothing part ID list, and click submit. Voila! This program also includes a hair and skin tone Colorizer accessible via the top menu.

👾 For more about these backdoor methods, see the PHB’s Glitching Guide.

Share your costume

If you have a costume you’d like to share with everyone, feel free to post a comment below! If you can, tell us how you pieced together your snazzy outfit and post a link so we can see it. Here’s how:

  1. 👕 For the best image resolution, use the in-game Costumizer window. Ideally, crop the image to show just your character.
  2. 📸 Take a screenshot and save it to your computer. Here’s how to take a screenshot — the instructions will vary depending on your device. For Windows, you’ll also need to paste it somewhere to save it as an image file on your computer.
  3. 🔗 Upload the image to the web and share the link in the comments of this post. You can use a site like imgur (or our Discord server, if you’re 13+) to upload your picture and obtain a web link for it that can then be shared so others can see it.

Now try mixing and matching your very own unique costume set on Poptropica, and share it with others in the comments below!

  1. I made Tord from eddsworld and i plan to make more eddsworld themed costumes http://tinypic.com/r/20a7vr4/9
Hair- found at the new you store along with the mouth and pants
You can get the gun by buying the cowboy costume in the store and taking the gun off of it and you get the hoodie from that pilot lady from home island and monkey wrench island.

  2. Here are the rest of my eddsworld costumes.
    Edd- http://tinypic.com/r/1zxmj43/9
    Tom- http://tinypic.com/r/14l1o2x/9
    Matt- http://tinypic.com/r/2rw1h5f/9
To get Tom and Edd’s hair color, you need to go to 24 carrot island and mess around with the red yellow and black drinks to get the brown you want and for Matt’s hair color you can go to 24 carrot island or you can do what I did and use the colorizer. Everything else you should be able to find in the new you store.

  3. I really liked the Joker costume you had displayed, so I wanted to make it my new costume on Poptropica. My original account is a girl so I made a new account that it a boy for this costume. It is really funny because the very first name I had as an option was Wild Joker! I then went on a “mission” to get this costume. I almost forgot you can us the COLORIZER on the home island! So I had to complete a bunch of islands for the colorizer icon in the store. I wish I’d known you could use the one inside the “New You” store on the home island. I hope you don’t make the same mistake! Sincerely, JennaGirl19980. 😂❤️️

    1. Hey, JennaGirl19980 that’s really funny that your name was wild joker, and you had the Joker costume! I almost made the same mistake of buying the colorizer in the store (but for a different costume!)instead of using the free one on te home island! So thanks for letting me know!

  4. Hey, Slantedfish! I have created two Cinderella’s–one is Cinderella in her official ball gown (Royal Cinderella) and the other is her casual look (Everyday Cindy).

    Royal Cinderella:
    LINK: http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bd2VUbVQwYkdGc1lXeGhibVE1TVRRMw%3D%3D
Hair: Use the colorizer to get the appropriate hair color. The fluffy hair is from the third lady in the beginning of Mystery Train. However, if you already completed Mystery Train, you can use the Queen from Astro Nights or Prom Queen from the store as a suitable substitute.
Makeup: Again, from the third lady in the beginning of Mystery Train, but any lips work. The blush can be found on Prom Queen, Southern Belle, Pop Star and more in the store.
Outfit/dress: All from the blue Southern Belle in the store. To get white pearls if you wish, go to the B.A.D Bistro on Spy Island and customize the pearls off the lady laughing and talking with the member of B.A.D. (They will still be there even if you have completed the island).

    Everyday Cindy:
    LINK: http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bVEZTMVpUWlcxaVpYSmtjbUZuYjI0NA%3D%3D
Hair: Collect hair pieces from the first girl you see on Counterfeit island (base), the guy outside TV world on Reality TV (side swept hairpiece), and get Aphrodite’s bangs from Mythology island.
The rest of the outfit was collected from the New You store on home island. Simply friend “emberdragon8” for the entire outfit.
Friend “lalaland9147” for the Royal Cinderella costume.

Hope you enjoy your new Cinderella costumes!

  5. Okay okay, last one, I PROMISE. 😀 (I know I’m doing too many of these… this is just too fun!
I saw someone in the comments asking for it, so here you go! A custom-made Doctor Who! http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bRmt2aHE3Wkc5amRHOXlkMmh2T1RFME53PT0%3D
I know it’s not perfect, but the bow tie was IMPOSSIBLE to find! So I guess I have to make do with this. There are no special parts, so all you have to do is friend “doctorwho9147” and costumize this off him. 🙂

    1. Nice! Also, Spy Island has the Grapple Bowtie item, and the Magician costume in the Store also has a bowtie. 🙂 And, there’s no limit to how many comments you can post here as long as they’re all of substance, which yours are, so feel free to post as much as you like! 😀

  6. First get hair from Mark Twain then turn it green with the Colorizer. Then turn your skin white.and get a clown mouth in the store. Next go to wild west and get the kids shirt. Then get some purple pance and the BANG gun in the cow boy outfit at the store. (Optional)
    Joker costume

  7. For the Katniss look: a better shirt can be found on home island in the photographer, and the hair can be used by mixing a bit of red and yellow with black in the Carrot Diner. I also got the canary bird follower as a “mockingjay”.

  8. hi I rlly love the cat trick-o-treater costume pls tell me where to get those cat ears I rlly need them tnx

slantedfish: I don’t know exactly, but you can find lots of cool costume parts on our ASG page!

  9. Hey, guys! The first time I played episode 2 of Poptropicon, I discovered how much I loved the superhero costumes and I was sad that I would only be able to access them in that one scene. I’ve started a project where I’m making a whole bunch of characters that I’m costumizing the superheroes’ costumes off of, and you can friend them to get the costumes for yourself without having to go through the trouble of playing all of Poptropicon ep. 2 to get them!!
Here’s their usernames so you can get some free epic costumes:

  10. Hi! My name is Alyse! I love Stranger Things, and I saw the really awesome Eleven costume. And I thought that I just had to make one of Eleven from when she was hanging out with Kali. So, this is my “Cool Eleven”! Enjoy:
    http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bSXN1akttUVd4NWMyVXhNRE0w
You can customize this look by friending me (Alyse1034) and costumizing my character. (The only thing non customizable is the eye shadow, and most costumes have that. I used Vampire Girl 1.) Thank you, and have fun!!!

  11. Like I said my username is Lalala14269 and all my parts are costumizable. My hair can be costumized off of Dr.Lange on VHI and the goggles are part of it. My eyeshadow is the rock star from the store. My jacket can be found off a random npc or common room player. Same with my belt. My shirt is from the lady in the blue dress in Mythology. My pants are black.

    1. There’s no contest right now, but here on the PHB we do have a tradition of doing a Halloween costume contest every year (during Halloween season, of course). Cool costume! Feel free to share costume ideas in the comments of this page. 🙂

  12. Here is my take on Mckeyla Mcallister from the show Project MC^2.
    http://www.poptropica.com/avatarstudio/avatar.html?a=bNzA1VWFQVFdOclpYbHNZVTFqWVd4c2FYTjBaWEpwYzNSb1pVOTNiQT09
    Book-from everything123’s closet-to represent A.D.I.S.N
    Shirt-from the store
    Jacket-friend strangereleven for it
Hair-from that curly haired blond lady with the patterned skirt you first see on Cryptids Island
You can add a black hat if you want to but I didn’t want to. Or to make everything easier, just friend MckeylaMcallisteristheOwl.

  13. Hello! I would like to show how to get my avatars look.My username is Lalala14269 if you want a picture from Avatar Studio. I call my avatars look Tomato-Tastic! The hair and earrings are from the “Inspector”(no spoilers!) on Counterfeit island, my bangs are from the cashier on Reality TV, My jacket is from the store Biker Costume. My yellow Wimpy kid shirt is pretty rare but you can costumize it from me if you add me. I have typical black poptropican pants and the belt is also from the Biker costume. My eyeshadow and blue star are from the Rock Star 2 costume.-RT

  14. Anyone by chance know where I can find this certain hair: medium length with a large white headband that has colorful, crisscrossed stripes? I know I’ve had it before at some point, so I’m pretty sure it’s costumizable, I just have no idea where it came from. The only place I’ve seen it is in the before/after picture on Night Watch. The middle girl.

  15. I call this look “Fall Hipster”
Hair: The beanie is from “Fall Fashion Outfit”, the bangs are from the costume place to the right on the home island.
Scarf: Its the Timmy Failure Island Scarf
Clothes: The top and bottom are from the costume place to the right on the home island.

(If you wanna add me my username is “uusseerrname2”)

  16. Hi, PHB! I really like Nintendo games, so I’ve recently been playing the game Mother 3. Since the main character, Lucas, and his brother Claus’ designs are very simple, I thought it would be easy to make Claus and Lucas from the game Mother 3 in Poptropica.

    Lucas
    Username: Lucas.Mother

    Claus
    Username: Claus.Mother

They’re both customizable and ASG-able! (Thanks to IDK’s ASG Machine.)

  17. To put on the “Garden Party” costume I created:

Get the bangs from the Vampire Girl 3 outfit
Get the hair, lips, skirt, and wings from the Fairy Princess costume
Get the shirt and necklace from the green Southern Belle outfit
Get the flower from the Flower Power costume
Change your hair to a light blonde with the Colorizer item
…And, if you want, use the butterfly follower from the Classic Followers Pack.

  18. I have a Luna Lovegood costume for anyone who wants it. Just go to the pop store and press the friend icon, this will lead you to the old friend page where you can add friends. Then put in the username lunalovegoodcostume. Then you can customize! 😀

  19. How to get my look: i call it Black Punk. Get the ponytail hair from Sofia on Back Lot island. The bangs are kinda rare so costumize them from me (lalala14269) the shirt and the star on face are from the Rock Star 2 costume. The jacket and pants are from the Biker costume. (extra if you want to look exactly like me dye your hair cyan with the colorizer or the drink machine on 24C island)

  20. I have a Zelda costume from Legend of Zelda. So color your hair between like yellow and orange, and your skin pale with a tiny bit of color. (so she doesn’t look like a vampire) Get the bangs from Vampire Girl 3, and get the hair from Amazonian Woman. Then go to Mystery Train Island and get the dress from the girl kinda to the left of the train, in the pink dress and fancy hat, and you have a Zelda costume! Also I’ll see if I can add a pic

    1. I also have another costume that I call the Peasant Warrior. Get the pants and sword from the guy you first see at Astro Knights Island. Then go right and get the shirt from the first girl you see. Get the hair from either Winter Girl 1 or Winter Boy 3.

    1. That’s going to be really tough. Maybe a red cape from ringmaster raven costume, some items from Templar Knight, maybe.

It would be nice if you could come like that to the party!

(Also I got the raven costume from a cool program in the glitches page)

    1. The head may be possible, not so sure about the torso unless if there is a white fur tuf wearable. And there can only be one tail since there isn’t a tail part where it comes in a pair.

  21. Hey Slanted Fish, since it was Friends’s 25th anniversary recently, I have come out with the costumes of the 6 main Friends characters. The accounts are as follows, you can see them in the Avatar studio.
Phoebe- Pheobe_Test (There is a misspelling in her username)
    Joey- Joey_Test
    Ross- Ross_Test
    Monica- Monica_Test
    Chandler- Chandler_Test
    Rachel- Rachel_Test

I personally feel that the costumes and get up for Monica, Phoebe and Ross are pretty accurate, Rachel and Chandler are fine but the Joey one could have been looked into a bit more. It would be great if you can reference them on this page!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Most of them are from the ‘create a new player’ menu and the ‘new you’ selection outfits, but I will try to reference these parts to the best of my ability as soon as I can. I also wanted to ask that are you a friends fan and do I improve on any of the characters or do I let them be as they are right now?

  22. We can’t really add friends by usernames so you should make the fandom costumes asg able. I’m specifically interested in the Scooby Ones and the Stranger Things one.
