Giant Hawk Adventures

GHA Updates!

Greetings Hawk-tropicans! This is Giant Hawk speaking, and today, I have a very important update to give you all.

So… January 5 is closely approaching us. As such, the GHA should be on the brink of its release! However, it is not anymore.

DogMemeCouldYouClarify

Now, before anyone panics, I need to clarify. Over the past week or so, HP and I have been working on the stories of my written series, the GHA, and his game series, Orb Legend. Unfortunately, we ran across some major continuity errors. We both agree that they cannot go unchecked. In order to fix these mistakes, some major rewrites will be made to the GHA.

This will make it impossible for me to make my January 5th deadline, as I had hoped. It really breaks my heart to postpone the series like this, but it must be done if I want to improve the coherency of my series.

Now, considering that school will be starting back up for me again this week, I’m not sure how long the rewriting process will take. At most, I’m hoping for release sometime this summer.

But honestly, I can’t just leave this here. Those of you who have been waiting for this series cannot leave disappointed! Hence, I am planning on releasing a GHA short which will be entitled ‘An Afternoon at Queequegs’.

AnAfternoonAtQueequeg's

It will not reveal much, continuity-wise, but it will focus on Giant Hawk and his closest friend, Nice Seal, as they hang out at a local coffee shop the day before the starting point of the series and it will released later this week!

In other GHA related news, I wish to clarify how exactly the series will be posted. The original idea would be, supposedly, to put them in actual blog posts on the front page of the Poptropica Help Blog. However, that might clutter said front page and confuse newcomers to the PHB.

The plan instead is to give the GHA a section in the toolbar to the top of the Poptropica Help Blog. This will allow the series to publish similarly to how we post our island walkthroughs, also making the series easier to organize.

As it so happens, it is time to move on to a completely different topic!

Speaking of happening, the New Years may have already happened, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still highlight the new year!

Case in point, the Poptropica Creators released a super cool graphic in honor of the switch over to 2016. Check it out:

What a way to celebrate the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016! Happy New Year, and may all your acquaintance be forgot and never be brought to mind.

Until next time…

Popspiracy: Legendary and Astronomical Similarities?

(This is a guest post by Spencer, an avid Poptropican in the community here to share some Poptropica thoughts. Keep in mind that the theory he presents is only a theory, not to be taken as fact. If you have a Popspiracy, let us know (details below)! Enjoy! –SlantedFish)

Hey Poptropicanos!

You’re probably wondering who this intriguing, yet handsome guest-poster is. Well, I’m Spencer! If that sounds familiar, I did a few guest-posts way back in 2013-14, did some island walkthroughs for the PHV, was the co-creator of Blake Pops a Theory (which is being replaced by what I’m about to announce) and I tend to chill on the PHC and EpicSerenity (two major Poptropica chats) a lot, too. Anyway, Slanted Fish and I are happy to announce our new series, Popspiracy: Poptropica Conspiracies!

popspiracy

Guess what? You get to be involved too! Leave your own fan theories in the comments down below or email [email protected] and you may get a chance to get your conspiracy featured on the PHB.

My conspiracy theory today is why Legendary Swords: Battle Arena was never released. I personally think it is because of the little but major similarities to Astro-Knights Island. Why continue a story that’s already too similar? More in depth, the villains themselves.

E.Vile is way too similar to the infamous Binary Bard. Why? First, let’s check out the character design.

E.VileASG

Man, I sure do love that evil grin of his, the grey and red robotic headgear, his skin-tone, and his plans to take over Poptropica and the rest of the universe. Sounds like some evil, robotic, mentally-ill jester I know… Binary Bard!

Binary Bard is king! Er, jester.

Now, let’s look at the actual storyline and plot of Legendary Swords and Astro Knights Island. So, let me get this straight. Our Poptropican is traveling in space, goes on a planet that needs help for some reason, and along the way is bombarded by robots our villain created? (Legendary Swords: BattleBots and bosses, Astro Knights: The Robotic rat, Bards robot armor, possibly the Tigercopter on the ice planet, Robotic Dragon on the fire planet, and the mother phoenix on the jungle planet.)

Also, PoptropiCon is full of call backs and similarities to other things in Poptropica. A lot of parodies, might I add. Why would E.Vile be there if he is canon? The creators dun’ goofed! They realized their mistake. The mistake being the storyline, plot, and main villain are way too similar to those after Astro-Knights. That’s why they never added more parts to the series. More importantly, Battle Arena. Spencer, why didn’t they delete the first Legendary Swords, in that case? If you spent months developing something, would you just delete it like that? Well, this conspiracy has been popped! 😉

Hope you all enjoyed the read and will submit some Poptropica conspiracies of your own. Take it easy Poptropicans!

Share your Pop conspiracies in the comments – we’d love to hear them. If you’d like to develop it into a full guest post like this one, contact the PHB (minimum 500 words). Stay popping!

Poptropica: Legends

Orb Legend – an epic saga

This post contains the information to possibly the largest update that we, the PHB, could ever muster. This update extends farther than the Poptropica community—beyond online virtual worlds. I am pleased to announce the beginning of a new adventure…

promo

Orb Legend is a role-playing game (RPG) created by a group of artists and creatives, centered around the adventures of Meridian Sinker, Quatia, Anguila, and the entire BHP team, throughout 6 books jam-packed with puzzles, stories, side quests, amazing soundtracks, and lovable characters. Yes, this is an actual game, created by me and my awesome team.

But how?

We’re using an amazing engine—“Game Maker Studio”—to put the game together, if that’s what you’re asking. You may recognize it as the engine that the RPG “Undertale” was built on—and gameplay wise, this game will be incredibly similar to Undertale.

What will happen to the PoptropiComic?

The PoptropiComic is no more. Orb Legend will be replacing it, continuing the same storyline. Sadly, after I created a couple pages, I realized that the story isn’t compatible with that medium. The story will be much more enjoyable here—trust us!

What can I expect from the game?

Think Poptropica, but the story is stretched out between over 20 different quests. The lore and backstory run deeper than Poptropica has ever delved. You will be playing as Meridian Sinker, so it will play like a spectating movie in which you get to choose what to do – but make no mistake, your choices won’t directly impact the main story.

There will be logical puzzles similar to Poptropica – and a battle mechanic similar to Undertale.

When can I play?

The game is in early development currently—but expect it sometime this year. Of course, it will be released in parts, which we call chapters. The chapters will be released one at a time—and there are about 4 chapters each book. There are 6 books, meaning this could be a project that lasts years.

What will it cost?

Because of Poptropica’s copyright, we can’t sell the game for profit. It will be absolutely free! However, we will have a Kickstarter campaign up and running soon, so you can donate to the game. In return, we’ll have fun rewards!

Who’s developing it?

You can read more about the entire development team on the official blog, but here’s an overview:

  • Andrew (HP) is the head of story development. I also do most of the spriting.
  • Paul (UiPE) helps out with graphics and story.
  • Blake helps out with making dialogue and story fluid.
  • Kat (Oddly) creates the (incredible) soundtrack for the game.
  • Ylimegirl programs the gameplay and helps with dialogue.
  • Joshua (GH) helps out with story and correlations between the game and his series.
  • Nicholas is the incredible background pixel artist.

I want more info!

We’re currently still working on the official blog, but you’ll be alerted here whenever it’s live!

Again, this is a huge endeavor and one that I’m super excited for. Happy New Years! Also, if you think you have any skills that may add to the project, feel free to contact me at [email protected].

2015 Rewind: Islands, Events, and More!

poptropica2015

Hey guys, Slip here.

Wow, another year has already passed. 2015 is coming to an end, and what better way to bring it to a close than to reflect and look back to all that’s happened this year?

happynewyear

2015, for Poptropica, is one of its awesome years. They reached a lot of milestones and new developments that made our game experience better than ever. This post is divided into three parts: the islands, the Poptropica milestones, and the PHB events.

Islands & Episodes

In 2015, we had a total of 4 new islands and 2 new episodes! From the forty thieves to space pirates to robot rulers, there was a lot for Poptropica adventurers to experience this year. Let’s take a look!

Arabian Nights Episode 2: Lair of Thieves

Poptropica started the year with releasing the second episode of Arabian Nightsone of the best episodic adventures we’ve had. It was definitely challenging, heart-stopping, and mysterious all at the same time. In this episode, everything was well done, making for an enjoyable experience. (You can check out our review here!)

Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Poptropica also launched a brand new sponsored island early on in the year: Galactic Hot Dogs. To be honest, Galactic Hot Dogs Island is one of Poptropica’s easiest islands, and its lack of challenge plus its being a sponsored island with a very contrasting art style made it rather unlikeable for many Poptropicans (in fact, it was voted Worst Poptropica Island in the PHB’s Poppies event!). Still, Poptropica brought a new island with a distinct story and a light challenge to all.

PoptropiCon Episode 3: Reign of Omegon

After releasing Galactic Hot Dogs to everyone, PoptropiCon’s concluding episode followed next. Now this was one amazing episode. Everything worked out well and Omegon played effectively as the story’s antagonist. I believe Poptropica made sure that this island would be remarkable; it definitely was one of the better ones and even inspired our April Fool’s prank this year!

Mystery of the Map Island

In May, a new island dawned on Poptropica. Based on the Poptropica graphic novel, you could say this island is a hybrid of both original and sponsored island. I enjoyed how our player is added to the plot. The downside was that the graphic novel had already been released, which meant everyone was already aware of what was going to happen. Still, the island was cool to play, and the design was well made. (Read our review of this island here!)

Arabian Nights Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For

Wishes do come true, as the ending of Arabian Nights showed us. I would consider this episode one of Poptropica’s finest works. Poptropica made everything top-notch in this episode — the story, the characters, the gameplay and even the design were all so amazing! Plus, Samhal the comedic genie gave us a lot of laughs along the way! (Read the PHB’s review here!)

Timmy Failure Island

This island isn’t a complete failure; it’s actually greater than expected! Sponsored islands have a down-factor since they aren’t an original Poptropica story, but this island defied the paradigms of the sponsored islands! From its wacky characters to its hilarious whodunit storyline, this island didn’t fail to meet our expectations. As far as sponsored islands go, this is one of the best. As a plus, it even came with a weekly giveaway(Check out our review here!)

Escape From Pelican Rock Island

We’ve been through a lot of prisons in Poptropica. Most of the time, prison security was a joke. Not so with Pelican Rock Prison! The year ended wonderfully with this island, which brought on a unique storyline with fantastic designs, particularly of the individual characters. Poptropica clearly worked hard on this island, and I believe this is the best island of 2015. 😛 (Catch the PHB’s review over here!)

That brings us to the next part: Poptropica’s milestones of 2015!

PHB Events

Look back through the parties, events, milestones, and even fan art contests! Here’s a slideshow of various PHB events we’ve had through the year:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This year was a big year for other reasons – namely a stronger reunion of the PHN.

UiPE bringing back a weekly series really helped out with inspiring the community again like Poptropican Portraits did once. Last year, HP reflected that he wanted the community to be more community centered, and in the past year we have gotten a lot of awesome community help. Trusty Biker helped out with the PHN website, Ylimegirl did a load of work on the Poptropica Wiki, and remember the fan art contests UiPE and HPuterpop held?

The Poppies was an awesome awards show – we really enjoyed seeing what you guys, the community, collectively preferred. We’re excited for next year!

We also joined forces with We-Love-Poptropica on deviantArt, the biggest Poptropica fan art community, fulfilling our goal to focus on the arts. Plus, starting in July, we picked up our Magazine series again, this time publishing The POPCORN in PDFs.

Here’s a timeline of some of our major events, too!

phb2015

Wow, a lot of things have come down in one year and things have gone so fast. Time really flies when you’re having fun, eh? It’s really a great time to reflect and ponder all of the things we’ve done this year.

Looking forward to the new year, here are a couple of our next aspirations:

  • A better glitch community. Free for all! (And more on the way!)
  • More active viewers – PHB lurkers, start commenting more on our posts! That’s the only way we can improve. 😀

Here at the PHB, it’s our privilege to bring you the best Poptropica news as we can. Hope y’all enjoyed this year-end recap! 2016 is going to be an awesome year!

🎇 Happy New Year, Poptropicans! 🎇

Escape from Pelican Rock Island

Everyone’s going to prison! (Escape from Pelican Rock for all!)

cantgoback

The warden threw a party in the county jail.
The prison band was there and they began to wail.

No, wait! How did this end so wrong? Everyone’s going to prison! Uh oh.

Anyways, after 3 long weeks of waiting,  Escape from Pelican Rock is now open to all players! Prepare to live the life of a prisoner! Jailhouse Rock is now playing all over town!

efpr playnow

I do have a feeling who’s behind this frame-up. Someone I know and has been on the tip of my tongue for days. I’m pretty sure about this. He’s been sending everyone to the dungeon, waiting for his next victim. The mastermind is the Earl of Lemongrab! Yep, I got it right.

If you ever get stuck in the dungeon and got into serious trouble, check out our EFPR Island Guide— complete with information and pictures! You can also check out your ranking in the World Champions map and see how well your Houdini-esque escape worked. 😂

Plus, you might also want to check out Captain Crawfish’s walkthrough or even our review! Another thing, the PHB’s year-end recap is coming tomorrow! 😀

Now I hope you’ve learned a valuable lesson, Poptropicans. I’ll visit you in prison one day. 😛 I hope that you don’t end up saying this:
