2015 Rewind: Islands, Events, and More!

Hey guys, Slip here.

Wow, another year has already passed. 2015 is coming to an end, and what better way to bring it to a close than to reflect and look back to all that’s happened this year?

2015, for Poptropica, is one of its awesome years. They reached a lot of milestones and new developments that made our game experience better than ever. This post is divided into three parts: the islands, the Poptropica milestones, and the PHB events.

Islands & Episodes

In 2015, we had a total of 4 new islands and 2 new episodes! From the forty thieves to space pirates to robot rulers, there was a lot for Poptropica adventurers to experience this year. Let’s take a look!

Arabian Nights Episode 2: Lair of Thieves

Poptropica started the year with releasing the second episode of Arabian Nightsone of the best episodic adventures we’ve had. It was definitely challenging, heart-stopping, and mysterious all at the same time. In this episode, everything was well done, making for an enjoyable experience. (You can check out our review here!)

Galactic Hot Dogs Island

Poptropica also launched a brand new sponsored island early on in the year: Galactic Hot Dogs. To be honest, Galactic Hot Dogs Island is one of Poptropica’s easiest islands, and its lack of challenge plus its being a sponsored island with a very contrasting art style made it rather unlikeable for many Poptropicans (in fact, it was voted Worst Poptropica Island in the PHB’s Poppies event!). Still, Poptropica brought a new island with a distinct story and a light challenge to all.

PoptropiCon Episode 3: Reign of Omegon

After releasing Galactic Hot Dogs to everyone, PoptropiCon’s concluding episode followed next. Now this was one amazing episode. Everything worked out well and Omegon played effectively as the story’s antagonist. I believe Poptropica made sure that this island would be remarkable; it definitely was one of the better ones and even inspired our April Fool’s prank this year!

Mystery of the Map Island

In May, a new island dawned on Poptropica. Based on the Poptropica graphic novel, you could say this island is a hybrid of both original and sponsored island. I enjoyed how our player is added to the plot. The downside was that the graphic novel had already been released, which meant everyone was already aware of what was going to happen. Still, the island was cool to play, and the design was well made. (Read our review of this island here!)

Arabian Nights Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For

Wishes do come true, as the ending of Arabian Nights showed us. I would consider this episode one of Poptropica’s finest works. Poptropica made everything top-notch in this episode — the story, the characters, the gameplay and even the design were all so amazing! Plus, Samhal the comedic genie gave us a lot of laughs along the way! (Read the PHB’s review here!)

Timmy Failure Island

This island isn’t a complete failure; it’s actually greater than expected! Sponsored islands have a down-factor since they aren’t an original Poptropica story, but this island defied the paradigms of the sponsored islands! From its wacky characters to its hilarious whodunit storyline, this island didn’t fail to meet our expectations. As far as sponsored islands go, this is one of the best. As a plus, it even came with a weekly giveaway(Check out our review here!)

Escape From Pelican Rock Island

We’ve been through a lot of prisons in Poptropica. Most of the time, prison security was a joke. Not so with Pelican Rock Prison! The year ended wonderfully with this island, which brought on a unique storyline with fantastic designs, particularly of the individual characters. Poptropica clearly worked hard on this island, and I believe this is the best island of 2015. 😛 (Catch the PHB’s review over here!)

That brings us to the next part: Poptropica’s milestones of 2015!

PHB Events

Look back through the parties, events, milestones, and even fan art contests! Here’s a slideshow of various PHB events we’ve had through the year:

This year was a big year for other reasons – namely a stronger reunion of the PHN.

UiPE bringing back a weekly series really helped out with inspiring the community again like Poptropican Portraits did once. Last year, HP reflected that he wanted the community to be more community centered, and in the past year we have gotten a lot of awesome community help. Trusty Biker helped out with the PHN website, Ylimegirl did a load of work on the Poptropica Wiki, and remember the fan art contests UiPE and HPuterpop held?

The Poppies was an awesome awards show – we really enjoyed seeing what you guys, the community, collectively preferred. We’re excited for next year!

We also joined forces with We-Love-Poptropica on deviantArt, the biggest Poptropica fan art community, fulfilling our goal to focus on the arts. Plus, starting in July, we picked up our Magazine series again, this time publishing The POPCORN in PDFs.

Here’s a timeline of some of our major events, too!

Wow, a lot of things have come down in one year and things have gone so fast. Time really flies when you’re having fun, eh? It’s really a great time to reflect and ponder all of the things we’ve done this year.

Looking forward to the new year, here are a couple of our next aspirations:

  • A better glitch community. Free for all! (And more on the way!)
  • More active viewers – PHB lurkers, start commenting more on our posts! That’s the only way we can improve. 😀

Here at the PHB, it’s our privilege to bring you the best Poptropica news as we can. Hope y’all enjoyed this year-end recap! 2016 is going to be an awesome year!

🎇 Happy New Year, Poptropicans! 🎇

Daily Pop-In, Reviews

PHB Review: Daily Pop-In

dailypopin review

For the past two weeks, Poptropicans were eagerly logging in every day for the Daily Pop-In, a giveaway event from the Creators where a new promo code would be given each day that could be entered in for a prize of some kind. Now that the final prize is out, here on the Poptropica Help Blog, we’ll be reviewing the event, which ran from July 27 to August 7, 2015. Let’s pop right in (pun intended)!

First there was the anticipation. The week before the giveaway, the event was announced on the Creators’ Blog, prompting excitement from players who were eager to get their hands on some freebies. From Captain Crawfish’s post, this was the initial pitch to us players:

The prize varies every day — it may be credits, or an item, or a costume. You’ll have to come back every day to get them all, because each code will only work for one day!

Credits! Items! Costumes! And, judging by the limited edition gold Pop Star costume featured on the promotional image from the Creators’ Blog, there was even the wild hope that they might be re-releasing retired items like it, especially considering the desire for rares among the Poptropica community.

Monday rolled around, and we rushed to redeem the first prize: 200 credits! Not bad! Unfortunately, that may have been the peak of the prizes, which we posted every day in this PHB post. Tuesday’s prize was 50 credits, which was an okay amount, though quite a decrease from the first day.

Wednesday’s prize was considered by many to be a joke: a measly 5 credits. It was such a disappointment that Poptropica even tweeted an apology, and a promise that it would get better, but things weren’t looking so great already.

Thursday’s prize was 75 credits, which could get you a costume from the Store, but four consecutive days of credits was pretty boring – and definitely not what people had hoped for when they read about getting “credits, or an item, or a costume.” Where were the non-credit prizes?

Friday’s prize finally offered something other than credits: a Fart Gun, which would blow a cloud of green smog and turn other characters green. Strange, but a welcome change, and the code to redeem it was up all weekend. It was kind of like an old prize from a Despicable Me ad.

Then came the second week of prizes, and we continued to hold out hope that perhaps this was the time for more cool items. But Monday’s prize was a repeat of Thursday’s: 75 credits.

Tuesday finally brought along a more interesting change of pace: a Twin Power that would make a clone of your character follow you around! While it was recycled from an old ad prize, the fact that it wasn’t credits and that we could keep it made it much more welcome than most of the previous week’s prizes. Perhaps there was hope for more cool items to come.

Wednesday’s prize was the third repeat of the 75 credits prize. Seriously? While 75 credits is great on its own, the novelty had worn off on many Poptropicans, who were desperately hoping for something new. The discontent was growing in the comments section of the PHB post where we were announcing each day’s new code, among other places within the Poptropica community.

Thursday’s penultimate prize was 20 credits, which, while not as terrible as 5 credits, is still close to being useless. However, it is worth noting that when you add up all the credits awarded up to this point, it totals 500 credits, which is a pretty decent amount. After all those credits, they had to have something great for the final day – right?

Friday’s prize ended the event with 100 credits – yup, credits, even down to the last day, and only half of the amount of 200 they’d given out on the first day! Well, Poptropica had a chance to end with a bang, and they kind of blew it. So what went wrong in this Daily Pop-In event? Let me count the ways…

  • The promise of credits, items, and costumes at the beginning sounded amazing, but the actual giveaway didn’t live up to expectations. The number of days where credits were given out (eight out of ten) was very disproportional in comparison to the promise of items (of which we received two in a total of ten days), and there were absolutely no costumes given out.
  • The promotional image used a limited edition costume (the golden Pop Star), giving out the (false) hope that retired items might be re-released in this event. In fact, they could have done that – they’ve done so in the past – but they missed the opportunity, and again, expectations fell short.
  • The amount of credits awarded each day was not so well done. While we can give credit (heh) to the fact that they did add up over time, there are a number of issues with the way they were divided. Starting off with 200 worked as an attention grab, but to end with less than that (100) made the structure fall flat. There were three different days in which the amount was the same (75), which only added to the feelings of “not again!” from players. And who wants to log in just to receive a negligible amount (5 and 20)?
  • Credits on their own are not that useful to members, who can already access every Store item for free. The only use credits would serve to members is to buy items to keep being able to use after their membership expires, but I doubt Poptropica should be trying to give them a reason to let their membership expire in the first place.

Still, for all these shortcomings, Poptropica did give us free stuff – so it’s only right that we acknowledge the good points of the giveaway as well. Thanks, Creators. 🙂

  • We received a decent amount of credits: 600 in total. That’s enough to get you 8 Store costumes (at 75 credits apiece) or two gold card items (250 each) with another hundred to spare. So, if you haven’t had the chance to fully appreciate the Store’s offerings from lack of credits, now you do.
  • Giving us credits also meant that you could choose what you wanted as opposed to being given a prize that didn’t quite interest you.
  • We did receive two interesting new items that we can now keep: the Fart Gun and Twin Power.
  • There were no glitches to speak of in the whole process. Every day at 12 noon EST, without fail, you could log in to see the new code on the map and enter it to immediately receive your new prize, which wouldn’t disappear.
  • While credits may not have been that useful to members, they are pretty useful to non-members: a sign that the Creators are still catering to the non-paying population! Thanks, Poptropica!

And there’s more good news from Captain Crawfish on the Creators’ Blog – they’ll be doing more giveaways in the future! Hopefully, they’ll learn from their mistakes to make these events the best they can be. 😀 (There is the Timmy Failure weekly giveaway to look forward to!)

We’ve had an absolutely blast giving away so many free credits and items over the past two weeks. The Daily Pop-In Prize is over for now, but you can bet we’ll be doing more like this in the future!

(Okay, “so many items” might be a stretch, Captain. 😉 )

Anyway, thanks for reading this PHB review on the first ever Poptropica Daily Pop-In event, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section! Stay popping, Poptropicans.

Daily Pop-In: Promo Codes & Prizes

The Daily Pop-In giveaway is now over.
Check out our PHB Review of the Daily Pop-In by clicking here!

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s UiPE here to bring you the new Daily Pop-Ins! That’s the event where, every weekday starting July 27th and going until August 7th, you can log into Poptropica and enter a promo code that will only work on that day to receive a prize. More details in this post.

[Fri, Aug 7] Today is the final day of the Daily Pop-Ins on Poptropica! The Creators have decided to end the giveaways off with the code BIG100 which earns you a prize of 100 credits.

[Thu, Aug 6] Today’s magical code is MORECREDITS, so I think you can guess today’s prize is credits. 😉 20 credits to be exact. I’m not disappointed, however, because I’m sure this means we’ll get a special item and/or costume tomorrow for the final Daily Pop-In prize! Be sure to tune in tomorrow at noon EST for the final code!

[Wed, Aug 5] Enter the code POPSTORERULES for another 75 credits. Yup… that’s the third time we’ve gotten a code for 75 credits. Make use of it by getting something cool from the Store!

[Tue, Aug 4] Today’s promo code is TWINPOWER, and for entering that in, you’ll get a Twin Power! If it sounds familiar to you, that’s because it was a prize item from a Liv and Maddie ad two years ago (see this PHB post). Still, a recycled ad item that’s now permanent is a nice change of pace (as the clone of your character following you around would agree!).

[Mon, Aug 3] Start off the week with the code DAILYDOSE for a free 75 credits! It’s enough to get you a costume of your own choosing at the Store. Still, not so useful for members.

[Fri, Jul 31] Today’s Daily Pop-In code welcomes a new prize! Enter in the the code WHOOPS to get an extra special Fart Gun. Thanks to Pixel for the glorious gif below. 😛

The code will last all weekend. Enter the code before it disappears on Monday at 12 pm EST. And of course, tune in on Monday, and every day next week, for new codes!

[Thu, Jul 30] Today welcomes the code LOVEPOP30 to give you a 75 credits! Put in your code by tomorrow at noon EST tomorrow, when it disappears. And, of course, tune in each day to this post for all of the other codes.

[Wed, Jul 29] The brand new code for today is HIGH5 and earns you an extra special 5 credits. Thnx Creators. XD Put the code in while you have the chance and be sure to tune in to this post for more codes! We know it feels like a joke – but Poptropica promises it’ll get better, and that “tomorrow’s prize definitely be worth more than 30 credits” (see tweet).

[Tue, Jul 28] Today’s code is GIMME50 and earns you 50 credits. Be sure to enter the code today before it disappears! And remember to tune in here each day for Daily Pop-In codes!

[Mon, Jul 27] The first Daily Pop-In is released, at 12pm EST! The first code is SURPRIZEME and earns you 200 credits, so be sure to enter the promo code in on Poptropica today before it’s gone.

And of course, tune in each weekday to this post to learn about the next Daily Pop-In! I’ll be updating this post every day to keep you posted on the current code and prizes, with the newest at the top.

Daily Pop-In

The Daily Pop-In begins next week!

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here, with a bit of Poptropica news.

(I lost a bet today, so I’m unfortunately going to have to wear a princess costume and pink wig for the next 24 hours, from the time of this post. So, um… presenting Her Royal Highness, Princess Blake… I guess. Actually, on an unrelated note, can we get some Princess Blake fanart? I’d love that.)

Anyway, back to the news. The Creators have announced that they’re starting a new promotion! It’s called the Daily Pop-In, and it rewards you for logging in to play Poptropica!

How this works is that each day (starting next Monday, July 27th, through Friday, August 7th) when you pop in (hah, get it?), you get a code for an item, a costume, maybe even credits! Sadly, I don’t need credits when I have membership. Oh, the irony: You get it all, and then you lose this. But judging by the limited edition gold Pop Star in the picture, they might be re-releasing retired exclusive costumes, and that might be something to look forward to!

Also, voting for the Poppies is still on, so cast your votes! You have two more days (at least in American time) to vote in Best Author  ANY CATEGORY! Be sure to vote Blake for best author for free cookies. Any author would be glad to have your vote. After all, we do everything we can to make the PHB “The Best it can Be!” Ooh, that’s good. Someone make that our slogan.

Anyway, that’s all for now! Stay popping, Poptropicans, and I’ll see you at the Poppies party over on the PHC! Take care!

(Wow, I actually didn’t end a post with my outro. Feels weird. This wig also feels weird.)
