Poptropica Portfolio: Lance Fry

Hello everyone!

It’s Lucky Joker here, featuring another Poptropica Portfolio! (We’ve already shown the works of Abraham Tena, Chris Goodwin, Nate Greenwall and Jordan Leary, and they’re pretty awesome.)

lance fryThis time around, the featured artist is Lance Fry, a former Poptropica Creator. He currently works for StoryArc Media as a senior artist, where he’s helped with drawing and animating an app I’m sure we’re all familiar with, Adventure Pig. (Go ahead and download it. It’s great! Still unsure? Check out this app review.) Anyway, let’s get into that portfolio! (Thanks to idk for the tip!)

The most notable piece is this logo for Crisis Caverns Island, indicating once again that there were serious plans to bring the island to life (and who knows, maybe there still are?).

Poptropica Portfolio image 13

Since his Logos and Signage gallery on Behance was uploaded very recently (this week), it’s possible Crisis Caverns is still being considered. You can also find this amazing collection of signs seen around Poptropica in the gallery (can you figure out where each of them are found in-game?):

Poptropica Portfolio image 12.jpg

In addition to signs and logos, he’s even made some background art, character designs, and concept art, as stated on his Behance page. Here are a few of his background and scenic pieces. Of course, you can view them all in his Behance background gallery.

All in all, Lance Fry has done a ton for Poptropica when it comes to art. Many of the backgrounds and logos we see in various islands were created by Fry. I think they all look amazing and deserve some recognition.

To learn more about Lance, pop on over to his LinkedIn page. To see more of his artwork (unrelated to Poptropica), view his website or Behance page. The artwork displayed is incredible.

A big thanks to Lance for all of the amazing work and effort he has put into the game. I hope he succeeds in all of his future endeavors!

I hope you took a liking to my first official post here on the PHB. Pop on!

Advertisements, Books, Poptropica Worlds

The Lost Tudor in the Wildlife!

Hey everyone, Slip here!

baaaymax

It’s been a while since I posted here, but now I’m back!

Anyway, there’s a new ad for the movie The Wild Life (called Robinson Crusoe outside the US) on Home Island! You may remember Robinson Crusoe coming to the Poptropica app a while back, but now, he’s landed his way to Poptropica online! (Thanks to Friendly Foot for the tip!)

Let’s see what’s inside…

wildlife1

Unlike the ad on the app, this one is a common room where you can talk to the characters in the story, check out the fun stuff, and collect prizes.

When you land on the left side of the ad and click the vine, these quirky animals will swing by on your screen:

Up near the exit, there is a costumizable Robinson Crusoe costume, so make sure to get it before it goes!

wildlife4

If you move to the right of the cavern, you can get a free Mak Follower! Just click and you shall receive it right away!

In other news, Mitch Krpata – the author of the second Poptropica graphic novel The Lost Expedition – is inviting everyone around Plainville, Massachusetts on September 14 to attend a book talk about Poptropica’s latest graphic novel at Jeff Kinney’s bookstore, An Unlikely Story. Don’t worry, it’s free!

https://twitter.com/mkrpata/status/770255077604990976

If you’re interested, don’t forget to register for the event here.

Lastly, the Poptropica Creators’ poll for the new Poptropica houses has ended as of Sunday midnight, Eastern time. It looks like the “Tudor” style (#4) won! (It’s the one on the bottom left.)

bachelor pads

I hope we can see it later this year when the New Poptropica launches! Although I really liked the Beach one (#3 in the middle) as well, because it reminds me of a modern version of the house in Steven Universe. 😛

…and that concludes our post for today! For those who are wondering about Stolen Snapshots and Community Celebrities, don’t worry because *hopefully* I can do them this month. :)))

Poptropican Meme Face Mondays: Round 39

Heyyo Poptropicans, it’s Ultimate iPad Expert here.

PieChartz

Sadly school has begun for me, but at least we still have these memes… So many scrumptious memes. Welcome to round thirty-nine of PMFM (Poptropican Meme Face Mondays)!

PMFM-Round39

The lucky meme-faced Poptropicans this week are Perfect Sky, room, and Brave Hero! And here are the memes:

Feel free to click on the images to view them in their full glory. 😛

In other unrelated news, Koi aka Spencer has written up this message for the readers of the PHB, so be sure to read:

Koi, the story in Chinese mythology – is a pathetic fish that’s teased for not being able to swim up a waterfall. Once it gets up the waterfall, it’s granted an amazing gift. It becomes a dragon. (Pst, for you Pokémaniacs – Pokémon uses that story for Magikarp. It’s why he turns into Gyrados.)

I’m not Koi anymore. I have much more pride in myself and my doings. I’m ready to move on, I’m happy to move on – and mostly, I want to.

Hope you all have enjoyed Pop 5, Popspiracies, Cobalt’s Corner, news, the sneak peeks, and my contributions towards Orb Legend.

Bye.

Goodbye Spencer. We’ll miss your circles and conspiracies. Swim on, Koi.

Want your own meme face?

Well, it’s simple. Comment on the most recent PMFM post (just choose the top one of the list, here). Be sure to follow the criteria below:

  • Very crucial: Wear the outfit you want to have in the meme face on Poptropica and keep it on for at least a week.
  • As mentioned, find the most recent PMFM post (it will be at the top of this list)
  • Include your Poptropican username in a comment.
  • Include the meme face you would like on your Poptropican in your comment (a link to an image of the meme is very preferred).
  • Post your comment and wait! (PMFM is operated on a first come-first serve basis, so your meme face will come after all of the ones before are released).
  • Just a note: You do not need to re-comment on newer posts if you haven’t gotten yours yet. Once I reply to your comment mentioning “You being added to the list,” then I have seen your comment and added it to my literal list, so yours will be made after each one before is made.

This completes round thirty-nine of meme faces. Tune in next Monday for the next Poptropican Meme Face Mondays!

What do you think about this week’s meme faces? Comment below.

No joke: A lucky new author is here!

Howdy Poptropicans! (dramatic entrance) I’m Lucky Joker, the newest PHB author! First off, I’d like to say hello to all of my new co-authors, as well as a big thank you to Slanted Fish for inviting me to write on this blog.

Lucky Joker Avatar Studio 2

To tell a bit about myself, I’m a teen living in the U.S. Some of my hobbies include reading, drawing, collecting toys, and writing — blogging being my favorite in particular. As some of you may know, I used to run a Poptropica blog of my own alongside White Ice, an awesome community member here. Unfortunately, when we were at our peak, it was hacked and deleted (moment of awkward silence while crickets chirp)

Enough with the bad news. The good news is that I’m here now and that I’m able to share my love with the best community around. Not to mention that I have the amazing opportunity to do so on the biggest Poptropica blog on the internet. Seriously, I cannot express the state of excitement I’m in, let alone through a computer screen. Here’s my happy dance to prove it!

If you want to check out some of my online profiles, by the way, here are the links below.

With all of that said, I hope you’ve gotten to know me a little more — and if you’ve read to this point, I commend you on your patience in regards to my rambling. Hopefully, you can bear with my weirdness and even come to enjoy it. I’m very eager to see what happens next and to meet a lot of new people! (dramatic exit)

Recap: PHB Tribal Tournament 2016!

tribe closing recap

Hey Poptropic-athletes! After a month of solid competition, the Poptropica Help Blog’s first ever Tribal Tournament has now come to a close. Thanks to the tons of Poptropicans who cheered, dressed up, and got involved in one way or another – we hope you had fun!

At the Closing Ceremony, we announced on the PHC the winners of the Tribal Tournament, breaking it down by each category. You can also see a collage of some party pictures above. But don’t worry if you missed it – we’ll be recapping them here as well! Since we’ve broken it down, you’ll need to get to the bottom of this post to see the overall winners.

Without further ado, let’s begin!

Medal Marathon

The first contest we announced was the Medal Marathon, which ran throughout the month, and all one had to do was play Poptropolis Games and show us the resulting scoreboard to earn points! As many times as one could! Higher results earned more points (1st place = 8 points, 2nd place = 7, etc).

Here are the standings for the Medal Marathon:

  1. Seraphim – 1284
  2. Wildfire – 931
  3. Yellowjackets – 902
  4. Pathfinders – 816

Artistic Athletes

For the Artistic Athletes round, we asked you guys to create and send us your best Poptropica art in a number of categories: visual art, written work, fashion, and Realms.

The PHB tribe reps then went through their respective tribes’ entries and picked one for each category, then brought them to the rest of the PHB team to vote, with each rep not voting on their own tribe’s entries to eliminate bias. After our deliberating, we’re ready to present our top selections for each tribe!

To calculate points, the PHB team ranked each chosen piece for every category, except for ones from their own tribe. From there, the placement numbers (first place, second, etc.) were added up and then divided by the number of placements that had been given to form an average.

Then the average scores were ranked within each category from lowest to highest, as lower amounts meant it had received higher placement ranks in the judging. From there, each category awarded points based on the final placements: 80 points for first place, 70 for second, and so on down the line.

You can see the overall placements for the Artistic Athletes after all the art categories below.

Overall Standings

And the winner is…

Well, to keep the suspense going, we’re going to work from the bottom. In 8th place, we have – lean and mean, but not too keen – the Nightcrawlers! Better seize the day next time, ‘Crawlers.

nightcrawlers

Waving their mighty dark banner above the sea where the squids dwell, in 7th place we have the Black Flags! Arrr, at least they weren’t dead last.

black flags

Swimming in at 6th place are the Flying Squid, who, for a small tribe, still played a decent share in the tournament! Not bad, Squiddies. Just keep swimming!

flyingsquid

Who’s won 5th place? According to our heavy data-crunching calculations, it’s the Nanobots! At least their processing power got a workout.

nanobots

Following their GPS, the Pathfinders have found their way to 4th place. A fine finish to their journey, and nobody got lost on the way!

pathfinders

Swarming in at 3rd place, we have the Yellowjackets, with not even a little sting in their pride. These buzzers were pretty close to the sweet taste of victory with winning the bronze!

yellowjackets

The intensity is heating up for 2nd place – and it’s Wildfire who nabbed the silver! Feel the burn, because this team isn’t going to be extinguished without a fight. And the crowd goes… WILD!

Which leaves, in 1st placeSeraphim! Congratulations to our champions who reign from on high! (cue angelic choir) Spread those wings proudly, because the glory is yours! Gold jerseys get the gold!

Before we wrap up, there’s one more award we want to give out… the Most Valuable Player!

This Poptropican pulled more than his weight in the Tribal Tournament, making up the majority of the Pathfinders’ tribe’s score and bringing more spirit on their PHC tribe channel than the PHB rep of the team. According to this player’s profile, he’s played through the Poptropolis Games almost sixty times!

So from all of us at the PHB… Lucky Joker, you da real MVP.

mvp tribe luckyjoker

Shout-outs also to Messy Thunder of Seraphim and Perfect Sky of Yellowjackets for also playing a ton of Poptropolis Games enough to rival LJ’s score – however, it was Lucky Joker who carried his team even when no one else did. Congrats to all three!

Well, that concludes the first ever Poptropica Help Blog Tribal Tournament! We hope you had fun competing and participating in our various competitions, cheering on your tribe, and enjoying the tribal colors on the PHC (Poptropica Help Chat)!

Remember, the PHC on Discord is always open for Poptropicans of all ages to hang out and have fun in a safely moderated chat environment, and you’ll often see PHB staff around too. We hope you’ll stick around and get to know this great community!
