Farewell Poptropica.com, reborn on Coolmath Games ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ•น๏ธ

It’s official: Poptropica.com now automatically redirects to Coolmath Games (CMG), as announced earlier this year following a shutdown scare in December. The Poptropica website is no more, but the game will live on through CMG, which hosts a vast library of ex-Flash games.

Coolmath Games will be the platform to access Poptropica going forward, although as previously mentioned on their blog, there are currently no plans to restore the old islands (RIP to best island Astro-Knights ๐Ÿš€). Like Poptropica, CMG is also under Sandbox & Co, so the ownership remains the same โ€” only the web hosting has switched.

CMG’s announcement of the move on social media (Twitter/X and Instagram) was short and sweet, stating that you can still access your account and to contact them for any questions.

Curiously, CMG liked a comment from a fan account on their Instagram post which said that Poptropica was going to close until CMG stepped in to save the day. This matches the narrative in CMG’s earlier blog post, though it’s interesting that Poptropica never said so themselves.

At the end of the day, Poptropica is still alive and doesn’t seem to be shutting down anytime soon, so that’s worth celebrating. ๐Ÿ™Œ

However, as their blog states, there are no plans for more content new or old, so what we have now โ€” mostly several short islands and episodes โ€” may be all we get for the foreseeable future. It may not be much, but there are a couple of improvements to CMG’s Pop: mobile playability straight from your web browser, and full screen mode!

UPDATE โ€” Mar 5: CMG’s blog post removed the part about the old islands, offering a slight hope that old islands might return, although there is no other indication that any such plans are in the works.

If you want to replay the old islands, you can still do so through Flashpoint, the unofficial preservation project. Another option is Poptropica’s paid Steam bundle, but Flashpoint has more content. Whether you play on Coolmath Games, Flashpoint, or Steam, don’t forget to visit our Island Guides for tips along your adventures! ๐Ÿฅณ

Poptropica is moving in with Coolmath Games, keeping membership free โžก๏ธ๐Ÿ”ข๐Ÿ•น๏ธ

Big news, Poptropicans: Poptropica is officially moving to Coolmath Games, a sister site owned by the same parent company, Sandbox & Co. (**Jan 19 & Feb 1 UPDATES added below with new insights from CMG.)

On Poptropica’s homepage, you’ll now be greeted with a pop-up message explaining the move. You can close the message and continue perusing the site as usual, including being able to log in and play.

As the pop-up states, Poptropica won’t be shutting down (despite the rumors), will still be playable on Steam and mobile, and will stay membership-free. They also promise refunds this month for those who had purchased membership before it was made obsolete.

UPDATE โ€“ Jan 19: Coolmath Games (CMG) also made a blog post about the move, sharing how they’ve already made a couple of improvements to the CMG version: making it playable on mobile and tablet devices straight from your web browser (no app download needed), and expanding the big-screen mode (lower-right corner) so the game can now be played full screen after watching a sponsored ad video.

In their decision to step up, CMG shares that “the original Poptropica decided to wind down,” which Pop had notably never mentioned before, and which also shows that there was some merit to the shutdown rumor after all. Seeing this, CMG “offered to cover the ongoing costs and hosting of the game” so it could live on. Your current Pop account will still work on CMG, separate from CMG accounts.

CMG also explains that the Poptropica site will fully redirect to CMG at some point, and plans to preserve “all content users find valuable… including… blogs.” Perhaps we may see the Pop Creators’ Blog (which mysteriously disappeared earlier this month) make a return on CMG?

UPDATE โ€“ Feb 1: CMG again modified their blog post to address the question of whether old islands from Poptropica’s early days would be returning. Unfortunately, the answer at this time is a disappointing no.

UPDATE โ€“ Mar 5: The section mentioning the old islands has been removed, offering a slight hope that old islands might return, although there is no other indication that any such plans are in the works.

Over on social media, Poptropica and CMG further elaborated on the move with posts on Instagram and Twitter (X). The migration is happening “in the coming months,” exact date to be announced.

The message refers to Poptropica’s official website, Twitter, and IG as places to find info about the game, while Pop also calls on its followers to follow CMG for info about Pop’s status. A tweet from CMG also links to Pop’s contact form as a place to ask questions.

CMG also has a much more active social media presence on both Twitter and Instagram than Poptropica lately, which seems to be a good sign that they will be more responsive in addressing fans’ concerns.

A promising CMG tweet from last year shares how they’ve been working with AwayFL, an Adobe Flash emulator, to bring back classic Flash games to their platform โ€” bringing hope that this may someday include more of Pop’s old islands. However, CMG hasn’t promised this yet.

Poptropica has actually been on CMG since 2019 with the release of Reality TV: Wild Safari Island, though this island is no longer in the game. Poptropica’s presence on CMG continues to mirror what is on the official website, as it has throughout their “years-long partnership.”

Could the shutdown hoax have been the catalyst to CMG deciding to take action, as their social media posts seem to suggest? What do you think of the move? Share with us in the comments and on the PHC!

Seasonal Shift for Starter Poptropicans ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Hey Poptropicans, pop in for some fresh looks! ๐ŸŒž

Gone are the old cast of default characters introduced last year with the restructuring of Poptropica to the Haxe engine. In comes a new crew for new accounts! You’ll find them right on the Poptropica homepage.

From left to right in the pics above, the new starters are: Coolin Dude, Snug Vibes, Floral Spring, Summer Vibes, Lightning Knight, Water Fight, Cool Blade, and Pumpkin Smash. You may recognize most of these looks from past store costumes, with Cool Blade also sharing their fit with Fashion Ninja from PoptropiCon’s Mighty Action Force.

Of course, players can customize their looks even further once they get into the game. Fun refresh, and cool to have all the seasons represented in the lineup. Wonder if this switch-up will happen again next year?

In other news, enjoy the latest fan art features from Pop’s Instagram stories, featuring some feisty character designs in fantastic styles! โš”๏ธ

TikTok on the clock and the content don’t stop ๐Ÿ•—๐Ÿฅธโœจ

Hey Poptropicans, tune in for costume calls, TikTok trends, future fun, Instagram imaginations, and mustachioed men. Let’s pop right in!

First up, November’s costume design contest is now taking entries! Share your submissions to Poptropica before November 19 at 8 pm EST, and it might be chosen for the Baron’s return in December.

That’s right, after her long stay all throughout Red October, she’s off to the skies again and, according to the Creators’ Blog, “taking some time away from Poptropica to spend some quality time with her friends and family.” Wait, she can leave Poptropica? And she and Ack aren’t lone wanderers? Wonder if we’ll get to meet the fam?

Anyway, for all the details of the contest, check out the Creators’ Blog!

Next up, Poptropica’s been popping off with the TikToks! The release of Mission Atlantis on Haxe came with a soundbite from The Office, and more recently, here’s one with a noseless human face juxtaposed on a Poptropican zipping through 24 Carrot (a cheat of a speedrun, though):

Not only that, but the Creators’ Blog featured several TikToks from Poptropica fans. (You can catch the first round over here.) There’s something for everyone: a cosplay of Octavian for the Occy cult, getting voted off Reality TV for the rage players, randomized Popsonas with origin stories for the creatives, Percy Jackson fans vs Mythology Island players for the truly knowledged, and scenes from various islands for the nostalgic ones. Watch them all on the Creators’ Blog!

Poptropica’s post of TikTok features also included some news on upcoming releases.

While Mission Atlantis and a handful of other old islands are back on Haxe, only their first episodes are available at the moment. However, we now have assurance that several of them will be getting their next episodes! As for who, what, and when… that remains to be seen.

Survival Island is one of the episodic islands that only has its first episode up on Haxe. Episodes came out for members first, then later released for all.

We also get a reminder that Goofball Island is currently in the works, though no new info is offered. But in case you missed it from last month, the PHB was able to get an inside scoop on this upcoming island from the fan designer himself, Thirsty Flame! Catch our Inside look at Dream Island winner: Goofball Island.

Also, here’s the latest batch of Poptropica’s Instagram stories. In addition to featuring their own TikTok, they also shared some fun fan art, including Smart Spinner’s “how not to wear a mask” (with nose!).

Also earlier this week on the Pop Creators’ Blog, we have a new guest blogger who, despite his name and writing style, refers to himself as “your old man.” Young Rider shares tons of pics from his “penthouse clubhouse,” as well as erratic doodles and even a Bitmoji.

After introducing us to his many pet followers, Rider gets to theorizing what might’ve happened to El Mustachio Grande since his arrest on Wild West Island way back in 2011. Ten years later, Rider suspects the hairy bandit might be vowing for revenge, eating a sad turducken, hijacking a flight to Home Island, or even, maybe, living as a kind scientist on Super Villain Island. What do you think?

That wraps up this post! Be sure to catch the waves below for news of the re-released Mission Atlantis as well as all the Atlantis-themed goods in the store. Sea you later, Poptropicans!
