Reviews, Vampire's Curse Island

Ramble Review: Vampire’s Curse Island ๐Ÿง›โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Hey Poptropicans, this is aย guest postย by White Fox.ย Enjoy!

Hi, Poptropicans! It’s White Fox again, here with a Ramble Review on the one and only Vampire’s Curse Island. First things first, I have to mentionย Christopher.ย The brave, loyal boyfriend.

Yeah, right. Moving on.

One of the reasons I liked this island because of all the referencesย to Bram Stoker’s vampire story Dracula. For example, the villain’s name is Countย Bram.ย Seriously, it is right there.

Also, one of the graves is dedicated to one of the Count’s victims, who was drained of her blood in the novelย Dracula. There’s more trivia like this in the PHB’s Vampire’s Curse Island Guide!

Let’s be honest, this island was definitely creepy. I mean, graves. Old statues. Vampires.ย Spiders.ย Eek!ย At first, this island did not seem like something I would be interested in playing. Mythology? Sure! Spies? Fine! But I didn’t feel like I wanted to play an island based on vampires.

Personally, seeing blood makes me freak out, so there’s a problem. The dark sky, the small city, everything at the beginning of the island was not what I would call welcoming. In the end, however, it was one of my favorite islands!

If I could change one thing about this island, though, it has to be the part when you make the anti-vampire serum. Just the fact that it’s so random. I wish it had more reason to it, like you find something that gives you a clue to it. More of an explanation toย why it is like that. Or maybe there was, and I didn’t see it.

Even if this island doesn’t get brought back, I hope that the dumbwaiter and the crossbow gets brought back. I loved that. I especially liked the part where you shot arrows at the side of the castle to get the mandrake root. That was hard, but fun and memorable.

I always wondered why tomatoes were in his lab. I mean, next to blood, I suppose tomatoes are a vampire’s favorite food? Or maybe he just had them for research?

I loved this island because of all the adventure. From using the crossbow, to firing the cannon, to growing a tomato head, to helping Katya escape Count Bram, the island is purely full of wonder and mystery.

I think that just about wraps up this post! Put your favorite part of the island in the comments below.ย ๐Ÿ‘‡Thanks for reading!

Peace,
White Fox

Fairy Tale Island, Sneak Peeks

Upcoming Island Tale looking Fairy good ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hey Poptropicans, check out these sneak peeks from the upcoming Fairy Tale Island shared this Friday on the Poptropica Creators’ Blog!

The main scene here is this majestic medieval castle atop some big stone steps and covered by thorny vines, with the king seen in an earlier sneak peek looking out from a balcony. The backdrop contains Twisted Thicket-like dark forest contrasted by a fluorescent pink sky with more castle towers just beyond. What beauties and beasts lie in wait? ๐Ÿฐ

The next couple of shots give us a closer look at what’s to the sides of the castle. To the left there’s Ye Olde Roastery Co โ€” a coffee shop? By the looks of the lurking dragon tail, perhaps we’ve got company…

To the left we have the roastery’s companion, Ye Olde Stables. An apathetic unicorn-cow and goat chill here. Wonder which fairy tale they belong to? And it seems you can make anything sound medieval by adding “ye olde,” hmm? ๐Ÿ˜œ

The Pop Creators previously promised that Fairy Tale Island, a winner in the recent Dream Island contest, would be out “before summer.” It seems they may in fact be on track to make this wish come true!

In other news, earlier this week, the Pop Creators shared a fan doodle from @brittscarlet1 on their Instagram story. There’s more where it came from, too: BrittScarlet regularly shares her Poptropica fan art on the PHC, our Discord server โ€” like this one of an angry Zeus! โšก๏ธ

That’s all for this post! Keep on popping on, Poptropicans. โœŒ๏ธ

Island Flash-backs, Wild West Island

Island Flash-back: Wild West ๐ŸŽ

The months seem to be going by faster and faster for me, and we’re already at the next island! Before we begin, I would like to thank everyone who participated in last month’s Monster Carnival Island Flash-backโ€”we had guest posts analyzing characters and presenting hopes and ideas for the island that had been years in the making.

And now for March’s Island…

Wild West!

While not as popular as others like Super Villain or Mythology, Wild West Island is still beloved and remembered by many. It is another great example of Poptropica’s ability to simplify backgrounds based off real-life locations while still keeping a certain charm. And I won’t deny that one of the most memorable parts for me was our Poptropican being able to ride the horse, Elmer.

Concepts for the horse’s design and animation

Wild West also incorporated a similar map style as Skullduggery (later used in Ghost Story), where you could travel between ports or locations from a bird’s-eye view, while sailing your ship or in this case, riding your horse. It also incorporated 3D elements!

Part of the map used to travel between different towns in the island!

I also cannot legally finish one of these posts without mentioning any villains. El Mustachio Grande is well-recognized for his flashy design, and while lacking in backstory, he manages to make up for it in personality!

Now here comes your part, Poptropicans! Wild West and other classic islands were rendered unplayable for most people in the Flash-Haxe transition, but the months of work that Poptropica’s artists and writers put into it should not go to waste! Make fanart, fanfiction, videos, and guest posts. Let the Creators know what you appreciate about their past work to encourage them to preserve it!

Until April!

Arabian Nights Island, Guest Posts

Different POV: The Sultan is exposed ๐Ÿ‘ณ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Hey Poptropicans, this is a guest post by Emu, who will be offering a different point of view on a Poptropica story: who is the real villain in Arabian Nights Island? ‘Cause that Sultan is looking real suspicious. Enjoy!

Welcome to my first DPOV (or “deepawv” in my Southern accent)! This series takes a look at Poptropica plots and characters from a less heard of, non-traditional, different point of view.

Today we’ll be looking at Arabian Nights, a Poptropica tale where (spoilers) Samhal the genie and Scheherazade the princess-turned-thief are often thought of as the villains. But now, let’s turn the tables!

He’s just a poor mixed up sฬถoฬถuฬถlฬถ er, genie.

We’re going to look more closely at the Sultan. Now, I know many Pop fans have confirmed that the Sultan is a bad man, but oh, he’s a BAD bad man. Let’s get started. ๐Ÿง Remember this diary entry from Scheherazade before she ran away from home?

I would read this book, would you?

So, after reading that, you can obviously tell that the Sultan has a HUGE greed problem. ๐Ÿ˜‚ He has quite the obsession problem also. Plus I gotta say, it’s pretty shady of him to let his daughter get almost kidnapped while he was caught up with finding out the name of a little green man.

Plus… HIS. POOR. WIFE. She must’ve gone through so much! She looks sooooo done with this in the family portraits! We never find out what happened to her, but I mean it’s reasonable to assume she just left! Sad.

Donโ€™t hate me for what Iโ€™m about to say.

Here’s my takeโ€”get ready for itโ€”I don’t think Samhal is bad. Are you glaring at that sentence? I get it, but here’s why I think the opposite.

The Sultan was an insanely greedy, self-centered, inconsiderate man, and I do believe that he bribed Samhal into dealing with him. Of course, by nature of his being, the genie did have no choice. We will never know what Samhal was like before the Sultan obsessed over tracking down this genie, and put his family on the line just to grow wealthy with his help. Besides, I think it’s pretty sad that even after the Sultan’s wife probably left, he still wasn’t scared of losing his daughter.

Had to include this!

Thanks for reading my first DPOV! What are your thoughts on this post? Drop your suggestions for another DPOV in the comments.

Keep at it, Poptropicans!

Fairy Tale Island, Sneak Peeks

The magical designs of Fairy Tale Island ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŽจ

Once upon a time (a few months ago, to be exact), a Poptropica fan named Perfect Crab had an idea for a fairy tale-themed island called… well, Fairy Tale Island. The Creators of Poptropica loved the idea so much that they selected it as one of the three winners of the Create Your Dream Island contest.

Many fans such as Perfect Crab awaited the arrival of the winning islands, yearning to go on more adventures in the great wide somewhere. Suddenly, the Creators shared some concept art for some of Fairy Tale Island’s many characters. Now let us take a look at what stories are awaiting us in this magical adventure!

The first image shows some character designs for the cast of Little Red Riding Hood. Our human characters are a modern Red Riding Hood(ie), a sweet grandma, and a hairy woodcutter. Of course, you cannot have Little Red Riding Hood without the Big Bad Wolf and his many expressive faces. While this isn’t the only modern adaptation of the story, this will definitely be an interesting take regardless.

Next, we have six of the seven dwarves from Snow White. It’s interesting that the dwarves are drawn in a different style from normal Poptropicans; they even have noses and fingers! Why are the dwarves drawn this way? Why are they wearing a human disguise like the gnomes from Gravity Falls? Where is the one other dwarf? Some of their secrets will be revealed shortly.

Moving along, here are some costumes fit for royalty. Amongst the kings and queens, we can easily spot Cinderella thanks to her iconic glass slippers. Interestingly, Cinderella also has a wild hairstyle and punk rocker outfit. Is that her normal attire before she goes to the ball, or perhaps her disguise at the ball?

There is also a lady dressed in purple accompanied with a note which says “Modify Kira scrub outfit and props”. We currently have a named character who is likely a medical professional. Could she be Cinderella’s fairy godmother?

Finally, here is concept art for the island’s possible villain: Rumpelstiltskin. His longer limbs and devilish features help him stand out from Poptropica villains of the past. Perhaps he has something to do with the fairy tales going awry? What is this sinister imp’s master plan, and is he working alone?

All of these character designs give us a lot to think about regarding the island’s story and tone. The modern takes on classic fairy tales are reminiscent to 2000’s fairy tale parody movies like Shrek, Hoodwinked, and Enchanted. Wouldn’t it be interesting to defeat Rumpelstiltskin and celebrate with a dance party?

Now these designs are a taste of what is to come. The full story of Fairy Tale Island is set to be told before this summer, so keep one eye on the Creators’ Blog and another on the Poptropica Help Blog. We cannot wait to see what Perfect Crab and the Creators have in store for us!

Thank you for reading, and have a good day!
