Thanksgiving hunt, Coco stunt, & more!

Hey Poptropicans! Slanted Fish here with the latest scoop of mashed potatoes what’s popping on Poptropica.

First, with the American Thanksgiving holiday coming up, the Poptropica Creators have let loose a few new feast-themed followers on Poptropica Original! Can you find all three of these foodie critters?

Skip this paragraph and the images below if you don’t want any spoilers: you can find Sweet Tato on top of the Arcade on Home Island, Cran Barry on the water tower on Early Poptropica, and Punkie Pie atop the Photo Gallery on Wimpy Wonderland.

Hurry—they’re only sticking around until the end of the holiday (which this means they’ll be gone by next Friday). Catch ’em while you can!

Also on Poptropica Original, there’s an ad game for Coco, the Pixar animated movie that releases this Thanksgiving! Talk to the skeleton man to get started, and you’ll be sent off running through the whimsical streets of the world of Coco, jumping over obstacles in order to deliver the leg of a skeleton without letting Dante the dog grab at you.

Once you make it to the end, you’ll be rewarded with a Dante Follower and Miguel Music Power. The Dante Follower is what its name suggests, and the Miguel Music Power equips you with Miguel’s guitar. When space bar is pressed, an audible guitar strum can be heard, and you’ll raise up some orange specks that float briefly.

Over on Poptropica’s YouTube channel, there’s a new video from Dave, who tells us about the “CREEPIEST Moments in Poptropica Worlds!” Check out his list:

  1. The tremor you feel when you first visit Crisis Caverns.
  2. The mysterious Dr. Crispin Vincent you keep hearing about.
  3. The mysterious mushroom cavern and its mole people inhabitants.
  4. Pretty much everything about 24 Carrot Island.

What would you add to this list? Do you think it compares to our list of Scariest Poptropica Moments for Poptropica Original? Sound off in the comments!

Last but not least, Stephanie has returned with another one of her weekly livestreams! Livestream #9, which aired November 17 at around 3:45 p.m. EST, is the fourth episode in her exploration of 24 Carrot Island (see the previous three here). Check it out:

In this episode, Stephanie continues venturing through the vents and eventually makes her way to the computer control, where she finally foils Dr. Hare’s plans and completes the quest. Her snack of choice is fitting for the video: carrots!

Towards the end, she asked viewers where she should go next: Crisis Caverns or Dr. Hare’s Revenge. Crisis Caverns won the live vote, so that’s where she’ll be exploring in next Friday’s episode—stay tuned!

From Stephanie and all of us here at the PHB, happy Thanksgiving! 🍂🦃🍁

Iris Ray, you can stay—with Dave and the Batcave

Hey Poptropicans! It’s Slanted Fish, popping in with the latest.

First, the Poptropica Creators released a new video introducing “6 Cool Side Characters” from Poptropica Worlds! Check it out:

And the six cool cats to be featured are…

  1. Captain Scuttlebutt, who lets you spin the daily wheel on Home Island
  2. Ranger Rick, who’s pretty attached to his bottle of glue 😉
  3. Hazel and Beatrice, the elderly ladies stuck in Crispin Cave — although I don’t think “Be-a-trees” is the conventional pronunciation, Poptropica’s Beatrice is probably unique enough to go for it if she wanted. 🐝🌲
  4. Maynard, also known as Weird Barn Dude
  5. Charlie, who really loves her cat Whiskers
  6. Iris Ray, whose color-changing clothes make her not so much a creeper who hangs around in front of your house all the time, but who adds to the cool factor

Those are some pretty solid choices, although, hey—Hazel and Bea-trees are two characters, not one! Anyway, who else would you add to the list?

That’s not all: it looks like our mystery narrator (who may also be the mystery blogger, and who we’ve been calling Gentle Lion which is his character’s name in the videos) has a new name: Dave. Take a look at the video description:

dave poptropica

Well, it’s good to finally be introduced, Dave!

It also looks like Dave (or Gentle Lion if you prefer Pop names) will be doing more videos for the YouTube channel, along with Stephanie, since both have recently been pretty active on there. (And doing pretty well, I might add!)

The Creators’ Blog has been all back to Captain Crawfish lately. Captain Crawfish also confirmed with the PHB over Twitter DM that he’s “running this stuff for the time being.” Not sure how long that will be, but Poptropica’s recent tweets have been on top of their game lately, so this seems like a pretty good arrangement!

Over on Poptropica Original’s Home Island, there’s an ad for The LEGO Batman Movie! (It’s been out for months, but still, it’s a good one.) Head inside the Batcave and talk to Batman to help him stop the Joker.

Your task is to help build three Batmobiles, and you’ll be given 20 seconds to complete each one. Simply drag each piece to where it belongs, noting the shape of each part as you hover over them until you find the one that matches.

When you’ve successfully built all three vehicles, you’ll win some prizes! The Batmobile Builder assembles a LEGO Batmobile on your screen when you press space bar, and the Batarang is a handheld bat boomerang you can throw (by pressing space bar). You’ll need to de-activate one to use the other, since both require space bar actions.

Finally, this is our last call for you to enter our Halloween Costume Contest! You can enter as many times as you like in two categories, Pop Original and Worlds. The contest closes on Monday, October 30 and we’ll be revealing the winners on Halloween.

We’re also still taking art (of all forms) for Community Creations! This month’s theme is Halloween, and as usual, you have up until the end of the month to enter.

Need a little inspiration for both? Check out our list of ASGs for Poptropica Original for tons of cool costume parts. We keep adding new ones, so keep checking back!

Plus, for those of you in the know, Stranger Things—an amazing Netflix drama—released their second season this week. What does this have to do with Poptropica? Well, check out our Pop-over post for Stranger Things to find out! 👻

Stay sp00py, Poptropicans!

An (Ad)venture in Mr. Lemoncello’s Library

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, today, with the newest Poptropica advertisement!

The advertisement this time around is for Nickelodeon’s newest original movie, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, based off of Grabenstein’s best-selling novel. You can see it on the Nickelodeon channel when it premieres on October 9th (which is less than a week from today). Anyway, off to the advertisement game!

You should be able to find the ad on Home Island, so once you do, go ahead and enter the “best library ever.”

Upon entering, you’ll see Kyle standing at the bottom level. Talk to him to start the minigame.

As seen below, the object of the game is to reach the key by flying on a book, while also dodging all of the storybook characters falling down along the way. Check out these action shots (Narf not included 😛 ):

While playing the game, there’ll be a bar on the left side of your screen to display your progress. On the top will show five smiley faces; those determine how many lives you have. Once you successfully fly to the top, and reach the key, you’ll earn two prizes:  the Flying Book Power and the Mr. Lemoncello Costume!

Well, that’s it for now… thanks for reading, and of course, pop on!

Tra-la-la, Ye Olde Shop has docked on Home Island!

Hey Poptropicans! Look what showed up on Home Island on Poptropica Worlds…

A pirate ship! No, wait, it’s just the exterior of a new building that’s decorated like a ship – and a small tower with a blimp weathervane. And according to the sign, it’s Ye Olde Shop! Which, really, just brings up the clothing shop panel. But now it has a physical building on Worlds, so that’s pretty neat. There was going to be new clothing, but…

Earlier today, the promised 10th birthday costume (which came on Friday for Pop Original) finally made its way to Worlds, but the excitement was short-lived. The costume soon encountered glitches like backwards-facing caps, disappearing heads for those wearing it, and downwards-facing fireworks.

Not too long later, the costume was deleted from Worlds. Hopefully it’ll be back soon – we’ll let you know when it returns.

Although new clothing on Worlds is still a work in progress, you can still pick up something new for your avatar on Poptropica Original!

On Pop Original’s Home Island, there’s an ad for Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (coming to DVD and Blu-ray), and inside the building is a common room, so you can meet and battle with other players. A “don’t touch” button, when touched, will bring up an animation of Captain Underpants zooming on your screen. If you go all the way to the end, you can costumize a red spotted billowing cape for your avatar.

captunderpants ad

Back to Worlds: you can also find the Captain Underpants Movie ad on your TV screen inside your house, but no prizes.

It’s interesting to note that when it comes to updates for Pop Original and Worlds, Original continues to get better (or faster) ones. For the 10th birthday costume, Pop Original got the update right on time, but we’re still waiting for the one on Worlds to be ready. For recent ads such as the Captain Underpants one, the offering on Pop Original is more complex and interesting than what appears on Worlds.

It seems like the Creators are still figuring things out with building on Unity, which is the engine Worlds runs on. Pop Original continues to be more familiar, hence the quality updates we’ve been used to over the years continuing to appear in-game without a hitch.

Considering that the Creators are willing to update Pop Original with them when they had originally said they wouldn’t be updating it, it seems the issue is not that they don’t want to keep up with these cool ad buildings, but rather that it’s taking time to figure out how to do it on Worlds. After all, on Worlds, they still aren’t ready for multiplayer functions like a common room, and even adding a new costume is proving to be a struggle.

Still, because the big reason Poptropica decided it needed to create Worlds was to adapt to new technologies, it looks like this is just the way things are for now, and it’s something we should keep remembering. For our part, let’s keep trying to enjoy both Poptropicas, knowing the Creators are still striving to make them fun for all.

Well, that’s all for now! Enjoy the New Olde Shop and the Captain Underpants cape! And, if you missed the events of this past weekend, be sure to check out our party recap and birthday news post below. Keep on poppin’ on, Poptropicans. 😉

Memoirs from Cars

Hey Poptropicans, it’s Slanted Fish!

Today’s post is brought to you by Disney’s Cars, which is coming out with its third movie in theaters June 16. It’s the first ever ad on the new Poptropica Worlds, and you can find it on Home Island by the wheel as well as on your TV screen inside your house! Watch the quick video, and you’ll be rewarded with a Lightning McQueen hat. (Note: This ad may not appear for all players as it appears to be region-specific.)

Thanks goes to Young Hippo for the images above.

If you’re lucky, you may also come across this ad on original Poptropica, right on Home Island! You can go inside and play a Cars 3 racing game as one of three characters: Cruz Ramirez, Lightning McQueen, or Jackson Storm. Avoid obstacles and get the boosts to make it to the finish line first, and if you win, you’ll get a Racing Outfit and Lightning Power!

Credit goes to idk, Mom on the Side, and Hyper Gamer for the pictures above.

Interestingly, Mom on the Side – whose blog post was retweeted by Poptropica – writes: “Disney is the official exclusive launch partner of Poptropica Worlds!” Well, Disney has often advertised with Poptropica in the past, but this declaration of being the exclusive partner seems to imply that they are the only ones now, and/or that they might hold some share of Poptropica. However, considering that the blogger also mentions that the Cars 3 game is on Worlds, when it is currently only on the original Poptropica, perhaps we should regard this information a little dubiously.

UPDATE: Poptropica has left a comment on this post to clarify that the quoted statement above “means that Disney is our first and only advertiser on Poptropica Worlds. No other ads will run at the same time as the Cars 3 ads.”

Back on Worlds, if you go to decorate your house, you’ll find a new Cars 3 poster waiting for you among your wall decorations. (Now if only they’d fix the problem where furniture items being purchased aren’t showing in the decor options…)

Anyway, have fun with your brand-new red hat with eyeballs and road-ripping action poster! Ride with caution, Poptropicans, and keep popping!
