My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Slippery Raptor

MyPlaceInPoptropica-SR

Hey, guys. Slip here.

intro2

Get your tissue boxes ready—just kidding.

Welcome to another “My Place in Poptropica” post. This is a special series by the PHB Authors where we tell our stories of how they got involved in the Poptropica community. (Don’t worry, there are no stunts and tightrope-walking in this post). Now it’s my turn!

So, let’s get on with the story. I hope you enjoy!

__

I am Slippery Raptor.

I’m about to tell you my story. It isn’t much of a great thing, but, at least, you get to hear it.

2008: Creations and Curiosities

I discovered Poptropica back in 2008 through K-Zone, a magazine my classmate had. We were in third grade; everyone wanted to look at the magazine— even me. As I was reading the magazine, a new game was featured in its “Game Zone”; it was Poptropica. I didn’t notice it because I was just scanning the pages until my classmate read the magazine and told everyone to try it out.  They were all excited to try out this game we’ve just discovered. It became the talk of our class.

I became curious. What’s this Poptropica? I decided to try it out too. After making my player, I saw a map unfold before me. I was very surprised and I said:

“Whoa. Shark Tooth Island? I better check that out.”

I remember saving my Poptropican back then and I got stuck in Shark Tooth Island. I finally found my old player and it was named Blue Monster. I had a fun time playing Poptropica.

poptropican

Poptropica was only a pastime for me— I didn’t play it every day. As a kid, I usually play outside since computers weren’t much of a big thing for me. Unfortunately, I forgot about Poptropica and I never played with Blue Monster again. Really sad, eh? I promised myself that I will return someday.

2009-2010: Returns and Raptors

Around late 2009 and early 2010, I did return to Poptropica. I didn’t remember Blue Monster anymore so I decided to play with someone new.

There came Slippery Raptor.

I decided to save my player and make my own username to log in with. My username is gabz1113 which is composed of my nickname and my birthday (November 13th). Along with that, I also bought my first costume: the Rock Singer.

I went inactive again in early 2010 and went back around Great Pumpkin Island’s release. Good thing I still remembered everything! I was really happy to see how Poptropica evolved through time and there are already 15 islands! Since then, I played Poptropica more frequently.

2011: Fondness and Fan Blogs

I became fond of Poptropica. I even told my friend that Cryptids Island is going to release that day due to the excitement. I became an active player— but not that much for I still enjoy my friends’ company.

Even though I had to move to a different place, I didn’t forget about Poptropica. It was actually a blessing in disguise because it made me like Poptropica even more.

I also joined Club Penguin in 2010 and I found some fan blogs around the game. Does Poptropica have fan blogs too? When I searched for some, I found Fierce Moon’s blog, Poptropica Secrets. (This was a long time before I found the PHB.)

2012: Discoveries and Dreams

Slippery still plays Poptropica (Don’t worry!). But then, I decided to find other Poptropica blogs other than Poptropica Secrets. Then I stumbled upon the Poptropica Help Blog which was better than the blog that I used to check.

I tracked back my comments on this blog and my first comment was by the name, Crazy Looper. Really crazy. I liked this site more because it has better stuff to offer and it has better quality when it comes to posting stuff. Ever since then, I visit this blog day after day to check on the updates.

Just like what everyone wanted, I also wanted to become an author here. I wasn’t that much known around the community and I became a random commenter on this blog.

2013: Blogs and Busy Stuff

I’m still your average Poptropican lounging on Poptropica until I decided to make a blog.

This blog is quite different than the typical blog because I combined two of the games I liked to play: Club Penguin and Poptropica. I made a site using Webs and made my blog—Slippery Raptor’s Club Penguin and Poptropica Blog (which is kinda weird)—but my blog did not last that long because I lost interest in blogging.

2014: WordPress and Works

2014 is Slippery’s biggest year.

I decided to create a new blog through WordPress this time. I made my blog on January 18, 2014; I didn’t expect what happened next.

When I made my blog, it was quite quiet at first but after that, I was so surprised when the views started to increase. I also made some of the pages in my blogs, made a lot of posts and eventually hitting over 4,000 views.

Along the way, I met new friends and I was invited to join several blogs. At first, Bony Catfish of  Poptropica 411 added me to her team and Nameless UnDEFined added me to her blog (Poptropican Awesomeness) and we created our behind the scenes blog, too. HP also wanted me to work with him, too!

But that wasn’t all of them. By November, upon receiving the news of Fuzzy-B’s departure, I also received an email from the PHB, inviting me to be the newest author! I didn’t hesitate to say “yes” but I was quite hesitant to make my first post since Fuzzy-B just left the blog.

I didn’t expect all of these things to happen in just a year and I am very thankful to the people who supported me and joined me from the very start. Then I welcomed a brand new year in Slippery’s adventure.

2015: Nice Stories and New Starts

I welcomed a brand new year for my blog and decided to start anew. Unfortunately, managing many blogs were quite hard, too. My blog went inactive for months and I did quit some of the blogs I used to be on.

Also at the PHB, I made myself very active in posting updates and stuff. I had my first April Fools’ prank with them, joined the Poptropica Help Network (PHN) and chatted with them on our private Hangout.

Months ago, I pitched Slanted Fish the idea of turning the PHB’s 7th birthday into something new— an awards show! I was very happy to see an idea of mine to come alive and work pretty well. I woke up 4 am in the morning just to join the PHC party and the live stream and see you all there. It was really worth the while.

The year got better when I unexpectedly landed first on the Early Poptropica finishers map and I was so shocked. I am so happy I got to celebrate Poptropica’s birthday once more. I think I won’t stop playing this game.

wat

I also celebrated my 15th birthday with the Poptropica community and even though it’s not Thanksgiving anymore, I’d like to thank everyone who greeted me and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you guys. Thank you.

thanks

__

I’d like to end this year thanking everyone for being there with me and making my dreams come true. I am very happy to help everyone through my posts and stuff on my blog and here. You are all so amazing. Be awesome!

Truly, finding your place in Poptropica is awesome; it makes you look back at everything that happened in the past and learn from it.

Through Twitter and the Viewing Glass…

Hey, guys! Slip here. Get the pun? It’s time for a new post!

missme

There’s a new ViewMaster advertisement in Poptropica Main Streets! It previously appeared on the mobile app then, online—don’t worry, both of the ads aren’t the same. They have different prizes for players, so let’s take a look!

The ViewMaster ad features an advertisement room where you can enter and get your prizes. Simply go in and you’ll find yourself inside a place similar to a planetarium.

Now, follow the blue arrows pointing up. It’ll lead you to the first prize: the 360 Teleporter Power. When you’re using this power, your player wears the ViewMaster and travels through several different Poptropica islands, without leaving the room! (Challenge: If you can name all of the islands, you’re awesome!)

To get to the next prize, you can go to the far right of the room until you come across some asteroids and a UFO. There you’ll receive your next prize: the Island Warper Power! With this power, you will warp to an island—like Night Watch or Wild West—you’ll stay for a while and warp back to the place you’re at. Seems fun, right?

Wait, there’s more! You can even try answering the quiz about animals or even try watching their advertisement on the giant ViewMaster in the middle.

If you have nothing left to do, you can exit the advertisement through the rocket at the end. 🙂

On the other hand, there are some new Twitter tidbits from Poptropica!

Poptropica shared this vine featuring the animation of the Monster Duck Hunt Carnie. Really scary monster. (Need any help with Monster Carnival? Click here!)

Poptropica also shared a photo of their bookshelf at the Poptropica HQ! See any familiar books? Do you have some of them? Comment it down below!

Last but never the least, Poptropica also posted this photo with the hashtags: #truth and #Poptropica. Do you agree with this?

And that’s all of the news and things you need to know! Did you miss me? I hope you did! Did you enjoy this post? Don’t forget to leave a comment!

Bonus Items, Escape from Pelican Rock Island, Reality TV Island

The Escape from Pelican Rock (and Reality TV map) begins!

Hey, Poptropican prisoners!

Yes, you heard it right! Escape From Pelican Rock Island is now open for preview to the public! For now, everyone can visit Main Street and collect two prizes – read on for more details!

pelican rock

We think that the island’s common room could be Bert’s Basement Gym or the City Bank. What do you think it is? Along the street, you’ll also find a Fresh Fruit Stand, some prisoners digging a hole, and the Ferry Market. Like the soundtrack? Listen to it here!

Now to get the prizes, you must talk to the first cop you meet on the island. The cop needs someone to take care of her bird, and after the conversation you’ll automatically get the Pet Bird Follower!

As you move further to your left, you’ll find a police officer with her dog. She’ll stop you and tell you that her dog — Sparky —doesn’t like you. As a precaution, she gives you the Prisoner Costume which includes the costumizable Sparky trailing right behind you.

What a great way to start the island, eh? I believe these are great prizes with crazy backstories. I also think that in the next few weeks, we’ll see more development and meet new people on the island. I hope we’ll get more prizes as we come closer to the island release!

We’re all very excited about this island. Are you? The island comes out in December, at least for members! By the way, if you’re a member, don’t forget to get your free Escapee Dr. Hare costume!

Plus, the Reality TV Island World Champions tournament started today! Good luck and let us know how you ranked by completing RTV Island and checking the map! If this is your first time finishing the island, you’ll also get 200 credits, which is 50 more than usual.

PHB Review: Scariest Poptropica Moments

PoptropicaPhoto

Happy Halloween Poptropicans! Slip here.

halloweenintro

What a spooky time to do a creepy post, eh? Today, we’ll be reviewing some of the scariest moments in Poptropica! I might as well tell everyone to beware of nightmares and trauma. Read on, if you dare…

Chupacabra

chupacabra

Let’s start with the cryptids—specifically, the Chupacabra. A creature that is said to look like a coyote-wolf hybrid that has green glowing eyes, sharp quills on its back and leaves a drain on the victim with a fang-like mark. Who wouldn’t be scared of this guy? Did it made you jump? Let’s check the fear meter!

fearmeter4

Jersey Devil

jerseydevil

Ah, of course. Who wouldn’t forget the time when the Jersey Devil, also a cryptid, was peeking at the window looking at your player? You wouldn’t forget that time, right?

That’s the winged creature that looks like a half-horse and half-goat. That face is a face that we all remember when playing Cryptids Island. Let’s check the fear meter!

fearmeter5

Zomberries

zomberries

It’s the zomberries of Eastman—these guys give me the creeps. Well, they became zombies from a substance mixed with blueberries, don’t eat brains, and are scared of lights. These guys are really crazy; lurking in dim places and chasing you every time you meet them. Let’s check out the fear meter!

fearmeter3

Count Bram’s obsession

countbram

Oh, Count Bram. He still hasn’t mastered the art of letting go— perhaps what he needs is a consultation from the doctor? It’s sad to lose a loved one, but he reached a ridiculous level of insanity when he turned our player into a vampire and bit Christopher along the way. He did show a soft side at the end, though, and was reunited with his love, Annabelle. ❀

fearmeter2

Giant Eel/Leviathan

gianteel

This Leviathan is one of the scariest prehistoric creatures I have ever seen on Poptropica. Before you meet this creature, the lights go out—setting a great mood for a jumpscare—then it peeps through holes on the wall, shows itself – and tries to eat you! The giant eel left fear on me and I never came back… after two tries. Oh fear meter on the wall, is the eel the scariest of them all?

fearmeter5

Fiona’s voice

fiona

One of the creepiest things in the history of Poptropica is this scene from Ghost Story island. Before SUIs (sound-updated islands), sound was pretty rare – making Fiona’s voice all the more spooky when it was heard.

What actually made it scary is that I thought that someone was behind me! I was shocked to know that the voice was from Poptropica. RIP headphone users.

Another bonus point is that the person responsible for Fiona’s voice was Creator Dr. Lange — amazing! What does the fear meter tell us?

fearmeter5

Myron van Buren

mvb

You might not have seen this coming, or maybe you did; I don’t know. Well, this list is not complete if it doesn’t include Poptropica’s most despicable villain — Survival Island’s Myron Van Buren! His face his creepy, his butler is also creepy and his motives are frightening.

“Mister van Buren sat on his tuffet, eating his steak away,
Along came a player, who asked for some supper,
and he invited him right away.

What does the fear meter have to say?

fearmeter5

The Puppet Man

puppet

For the last scariest moment on Poptropica, it would go to Monster Carnival Island’s Puppet Man. At one point, we have to enter the Haunted Lab at night when everyone’s been turned into monsters. If you go in without a flashlight, you can come across this eerie fellow lurking in the shadows of the Haunted Lab — carnie by day; scarer by night. What does the fear meter have to say about this one?

fearmeter4

…and that wraps our special Halloween post! Which of these moments scared you the most? Let us know in the comments if you agree with these ratings, or if you have another moment to add to the list!

Happy Halloween, Poptropicans!
