Arabian Nights Island, Popspiracy Theories

BTS Overview & Theory: Arabian Nights Ep. 3

BTS - Arabian Nights 3

Hey everyone, and welcome back to our Behind the Scenes Overview & Theory series! This time, we’ll be covering Arabian Nights Ep. 3: Careful What You Wish For, written by several of us on the PHB staff. Be sure to also check out the BTS post for Arabian Nights Ep. 2!

The episode will be released tomorrow for members, and is expected to be out mid-July for non-members. Without further ado, scroll down for spoilers!

:: description ::

Like always, let’s start off with the basics. Here’s the episode description:

The genie is out of the bottle, and now everyone wants a chance to make their wishes come true. But whether you’re a greedy merchant, a lovelorn palace guard, or a Sultan with a long-buried secret, heed this advice: be careful what you wish for!

Dun, dun duh!!! 😀

:: daily pop sneak peeks ::

Let’s take a look at the Daily Pops – we were only able to find relevant images posted from January to April 2015. After that, there were none, as they focused on pictures for Timmy Failure Island instead. This episode has been a long time in coming!

You can tell that all of these sneak peeks have a chance of relating to the island, but a few of them are only maybes, such as the Skeleton Key and Dust to Dust

:: items ::

That is, until you see the items for the island!

As you can see, the Skeleton Key and Moon Dust/Stone are shown. Before moving on, there are a couple of things we need to note about the items.

While the Moon Dust and Moonstone are two separate items, the Crystals are only one item (in different forms). Regarding the Divination Dust, “Divination” is seeking knowledge by supernatural means. Also, a geode is basically a rock lined with crystals.

:: scenes & dialogue ::

Okay, now we can move on to the layout of the map and the scenes that take place. What happens is inferred from the dialogue we have uncovered for each scene.

First, we have the Treasure Keep. Nothing visual is significant besides the background.

arabian nights ep3 treasure keep bts image 1

The treasure room is the place where we left off. In this scene, we will finally see the genie face to face and he will grant the first wish, made by Brutus, the muscleman for the 40 thieves. Brutus wishes to make everything that he touches turn to dust.

But the treasure keep is part of the thieves’ lair, where you were being held prisoner last episode! Don’t worry, you’ll live to see the Desert outside, once someone (the princess?) gets you out just as the thieves’ cave collapses.

desert

You’ll also be revisiting the Bazaar, which we don’t have a picture for, but for which the dialogue is rich with hints of genie hunting, camel chasing, and more item trading.

Beside the bazaar, as you may recall from the first episode, is the Palace Exterior. Here, the Master of Coin for the 40 Thieves wishes to hold infinite wealth – only to have the genie turn him into a treasure chest! Careful what you wish for, indeed!

palaceexterior

Inside, of course, is the Palace Interior, which is still looking completely ransacked. In nervous words, you tell the Sultan that you had the lamp but lost it, and that the last time you saw the Vizier, he had vanished into thin air. (Well, he did!)

palace interior

In the Atrium, for which we only have this snippet of a look inside, your character watches someone enter the lamp room, and also realizes that the sultan and genie must have met before.

atriumThen there’s the Lamp Room. As the name suggests, the lamp room holds the genie’s lamp, the magical instrument where wishes are being made.

Also in the palace is the Princess Room, where you barge in and also discover the name “Samhal”, which may be the genie’s true name. Judging by the knifed drawing on the wall, however, she’s not too fond of the genie. Also, check out BT’s theory post about why the princess seems so sad!

Finally, there’s the Vizier Room, which houses a crafting table, kind of like in the previous episode. Plus, you make an obligatory Disney reference: “Hey, a magic carpet! Now I’m in a whole new world.”

:: final theory ::

In Arabian Nights, Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For, the genie has been released and everyone’s getting a chance to make a wish. However, the granted wishes don’t always turn out to be what people imagined: as we can see in the “Oh Baby” Daily Pop and desert dialogue, one man wishing to be “young” gets turned into a baby – and that’s just one!

Amid all this, there’s drama in the royal family – if you’ve read BT’s theory post about the princess, our speculation is that the princess, jealous of the bond between the genie and her father, the sultan, broke bad on her own and became one of the 40 thieves – the leader, in fact. That’s why she’s been forcing prisoners to rub lamps: to find the right one so she can get rid of the genie herself. We can tell by her bedroom wall that she really wants the genie gone.

Of course, the sultan has recruited you to help him, as well as his wise friend the Vizier – who, despite his “vanishing” in Episode 2, might just make a return.

So that’s our theory and evidence for the final episode of Arabian Nights! Check back here on the PHB for a guide when the island releases tomorrow for members.

Stay popping, Poptropicans. 😀

Arabian Nights Island

Be prepared for a magical finale: tomorrow!

Hey, guys, BT here with a quick post.

Plot twist! According to a recent Creators’ post, Arabian Nights Island, Episode 3: “Careful What You Wish For” is coming out for members – tomorrow!

You heard me right. Tomorrow.

Tomorrow members experience Poptropica’s last episodic adventure. Tomorrow concludes young Sarah S’s release of her dream island. Tomorrow we find out the truth behind the genie in the bottle. And also, as per usual, there will be a guide worked on for this finale when the time comes. (And I’ll be doing a ‘Let’s Play’ on it on my YouTube page!)

We’ll see you for this wishful finale tomorrow!

Ten things you DIDN'T know about Poptropica!

10 things you DIDN’T know about Poptropica #3

Hi Gs,

This is the third post that I’ve made concerning strange and interesting facts about Poptropica – check out the first and second ones by clicking the links. Enjoy!

1. Dr. Spyglass’ early years

On Lunar Colony Island, during the bonus quest, you have to decode some alien messages sent by Salerno. The decoder screen shown also has a hidden badge laying behind the decoding machine. On the card, you can see Dr. Spyglass from Spy Island – he used to work at PASE!

2. Daphne Dreadnaught

For some of you old timers, you may remember “Spook Central”, a mini-quest promo for Ghost Story Island. From the map, you would arrive in a laboratory. A steam punk woman is working on a machine. She tells you that she was containing ghosts in the machine, and that the machine failed. The ghosts were scattered across Poptropica.

From the folder of ghost information she gives you, you can see that her name is Daphne Dreadnaught – and, if you snoop around the laboratory, you will find a pair of ultra vision goggles; she knew Dr. Spyglass?!

3. Jess and Mary’s Bakery

On Super Power Island, inside the subway, you can find a poster. It says “Jess and Mary’s Bakery”. This is a direct reference to Jess Brallier and presumably his wife, Mary. (So many Easter eggs inside this subway!)

4. Richard the Lionheart

The king of Arturus’s name is Richard – you find it in the book, subtly hidden. Richard the Lionheart was a king in medieval times, and not only did he look very similar to the King of Arturus, but take a look at the Lionheart’s crest:

5. Pencil Warrior Cover Mistake

On the cover of the colouring book Pencil Warrior, there was an island medallion for ‘Time Twisted Island’ (the original name for Time Tangled Island). However, this was removed after a few printings (I have one of the books with it!).

6. Hot Air Balloon rides

On Cryptids Island, inside the common room (Bert’s Bed & Breakfast), you can find a paper pinned to the community board. It says “Hot air balloon for rent” – a possible Easter egg – or inspiration – for the A-1 balloon rides that Octavian runs in the Poptropica graphic novels.

7. The origins of the three mystical items of Astro-Knights

Some may know this, but only the ones who read closely – you’ll find out from the Mystical Weapons of Arturus book that you receive during Astro-Knights Island that these mystical items were wielded/created/found in three different ways by strangely specific people:

  • The Laser Lance was wielded by Sir Pugilist.
  • The Force Shield was found in a deep cavern by Bristol the Miner.
  • The Ice Arrow was crafted by Rime the Wizard.

8. H.G. Wells

A lot of people in the Poptropica staff must like writer H.G. Wells – his works have been referenced numerous times throughout Poptropica. On Shrink Ray Island, C.J. owns his book, The Time Machine.

On Zomberry Island, a poster on Gamer Guy’s wall – when translated to English – says ‘War of the Islands’ – a reference to H.G.’s book, War of the Worlds.

In the Cryptids Island book, Harold Mews makes note of a time when he went to an island to help out a strange doctor named H.G. – the doctor took credit for his work and tried to feed him to a puma – a reference to The Island of Doctor Moreau.

9. Paint Palette Watch

If you’ve read my post on the forgotten items that Poptropica has hidden in it’s files, you’ll know about an item called a ‘Paint Palette Watch’. This was intended to be in Counterfeit Island. The watch makes an appearance in the Poptropica Friends book – strange cameo!

10. Mr. Silva’s Hero

On Shrink Ray Island, when you meet up with C.J. in Mr. Silva’s office, you can read some of the titles of the books he owns. There is The Science of Art, The Art of Science, The BIG Book of Villainy, and Who was Albert Einstein?. The latter is an actual book that is advertised in the Store with the Einstein costume (update: and it was written by Jess Brallier!). A small trophy of Albert Einstein is setting on Mr. Silva’s desk with the caption ‘My Hero’.

Home car, Templar Knight price hike, & more

Hey guys! There are some new updates on Poptropica – let’s check them out!

First, there’s a new “Home” ad (for the Party Edition of the Dreamworks movie) on Poptropica Main Streets (such as Game Show), and you just have to click on the ad to collect an untitled Car Follower!

home car followerOn another note, PHB reader Muddy Kid recently noticed that the Templar Knight in the Store now costs 410 credits (costumes are usually only 75 credits, and some are even free). It seems like the Creators are having a price hike after giving us a raise, but so far, this seems to be the only item affected with a higher price.

Also, we’ve received a bit of an explanation from the Creators regarding the sudden change of Nabooti Island being for members only. They put their response in an image since it couldn’t be contained in the 140 characters max that Twitter allows. It’s not much, but the basic idea is that Poptropica continues to evolve, and one experimentation isn’t the end of the world. Read it here:

Poptropica will always be awesome no matter what. What do you think? Leave a comment!

Arabian Nights Island, Popstorms, Realms

I can show you my Realms… shining, shimmering, splendid…

Hey Poptropicans! It’s here – the ability to share your own Realms and visit (and rate) the Realms of others! Sharing is for members only, but all players can check out the “Public Realms” and give likes.

homeRotatingFeature_RealmsSharing

To share a Realm, visit the Realms menu (the bubble in the lower-left corner) and select the Realm you’d like to share, then click the “Share” button (remember, only members can do this). Once you do, it’ll be sent to the Creators for approval, and as long as there’s nothing inappropriate, it’ll be visible to the public shortly.

When it’s approved, you’ll see a Realm code in the Realms menu that you can tell people about so they can check it out. But everyone can visit other people’s Realms – just navigate over to the menu in the top-left and click the dropdown button for “Public Realms”. You can also enter a Realms code, if you know a specific one you want to visit. If you’d like, you are welcome to share your Realm code(s) in the comments here or on our Realms guide for people to check out your creation! 🙂

In the Public Realm-o-sphere, you can browse through the worlds made by members who’ve shared their Realms, give likes, and click “See More” for even more. You might even spot Poptropica Creator Black Widow’s Spider Web lava-land (and pool, if you go right)! (code: 9j548)

And Dr. Hare’s The Lair (code: 95b7p) is a brilliant re-creation of the entire factory on 24 Carrot Island, from the dilapidated exterior down to the Rabbot room at the very end.

Even Master Mime made a little something, a cactus dragon which he calls the Boa Hiyemthoum (code: 8c4yx). Does it look a little like his latest Popstorm drawing (#31, “Pups for sale!”)?

Captain Crawfish also made a video explaining the new features, which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=154&v=hcBkKbDoNqI Also, as you may notice, the Star Wars Rebels Lightsaber promotion has now ended. For more Realms tips, and if you’d like to comment your Realms code, check out our Poptropica Realms Guide. One last Realms-related note: HPuterpop took the liberty of extracting these beautiful backgrounds from the Realms menus, which you can enjoy here – the images can also be tiled!

On a different note, get ready for Arabian Nights, Ep. 3: Careful What You Wish For, which is expected to be released in July, and keep checking the PHB for news and sneak peeks. There’s a banner up on the homepage now. Djinn see that coming, did you? Arab3-homePage Stay popping, Poptropicans. 😀
