In other news, Skinny Moon has featured some more #MyPoptropicaCostume contest entries on Snapchat. This time, they’re from Poptropica’s Facebook page, featuring: Invisible Biker’s “Celestial Mage,” Golden Owl’s “Silver Elf,” Massive Melon’s “Tick Tock,” and a host of other awesome designs. Check them out below! (And check out yesterday’s post for some more!)

On Inspiration: Snap Stories and Wimpy Stories

Hello everyone! I finally got to a post before LJ or Fishy, aren’t you proud? I know I am because honestly 2016 has had too much horrible stuff happen already. We need some more positives.

Aside from the Carrie Fisher tribute, thankfully, the Creators’ official Snapchat also featured pics on a happier note: some #MyPoptropicaCostume contest entries! Check them out below.

The entries shown include “Sports Vendor” by Fast Lizard, “Diwali Outfit” by Lucky Joker (a PHB author!!!), and “Grunge Girl/Boy” by Spotted Dragon (another PHB author obviously, because that’s me!!!). I can’t really fairly talk about how great my own costume is, but the others are definitely pretty cool. Perhaps they’ll inspire you to enter something into the contest!

Remember that you can create your own outfit that might end up in the actual Poptropica store by posting it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #MyPoptropicaCostume, or directly to their Facebook page. Some updates to how the contest will end were mentioned just the other day, so be sure to check that out! The contest ends tomorrow, Dec 31 at midnight EST.

Moving on, we have a story other than that of Snapchat. This one, in contrast, focuses on Diary of a Wimpy Kid in an interview with Jeff Kinney conducted by Raymond Arroyo.

In the first half of the video, starting around 4:14, Poptropica is briefly mentioned, though no significant new information regarding the game was ever touched on. Here is Jeff’s commentary regarding Poptropica:

Poptropica really is a direct descendant of the Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck books that I read as a kid where Carl Barks, this cartoonist, introduced me to my world. My whole basis of understanding of the world started with those comics – religion, psychology, psychiatry, you know; geology, history, everything came from those comics to start with, and I knew that we had this privilege – the privilege of the responsibility to communicate the kids’ world back to them. And they were reading about, they were experiencing things like Greek mythology for the first time. We had the chance to do that, so that’s why it’s been very edifying, rewarding to know it’s a lot of fun for kids.

The entire interview is mainly about the Wimpy Kid book series and Jeff Kinney’s inspiration for it. Still, if you’re a fan of his work, it’s worth the watch. 😉

And with that my friends, I have to leave you because it is literally 2 am where I am. Goodnight! Good morning!

A poptastic update: #MyPoptropicaCostume Contest

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, sharing an amazing update regarding the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest!

costume-contest-facebook

In the Creators’ latest post, it was announced that there will be TWO (not one) grand prize winners chosen by the Poptropica Creators. Each grand prize winner will receive a 6-month membership and have their costume sold in the Poptropica store for a limited time. Plus, the winning costumes will be worn by a Poptropican on Home Island.

Not only will there be two grand prize winners, but also ten runner-ups who will be voted by us, the Poptropica community! Twenty costumes will be selected by the creators, and we’ll have to vote for our favorites. The top ten costumes with the most votes will get a 3-month membership and have their costumes also sold in the Poptropica store. In total, we’ll have 12 new costumes from winners!

The deadline to enter this contest is Saturday, December 31, 12am EST, so make sure to enter on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag (#MyPoptropicaCostume) or post your creation on the official Poptropica Facebook page.

Also, here are some official guidelines and tips from Poptropica:

  • You can use our template (find it here) to draw your outfit. Or draw your Poptropican’s outfit freehand (here’s a guide). Or draw your creation using your computer or tablet. Whatever you want!
  • Use your imagination! Get inspired by your favorite movies or TV shows and put your own original twist on them. Or think about your favorite activities, sports, and hobbies, and base a costume around one of them. Check out your favorite magazines and take a cue from the latest trends. The sky’s the limit!
  • Don’t forget about fun accessories and powers that your costume could have!
  • When you design your costume, be sure it could be reproducible as a Poptropica Costume. Teeny tiny details would be hard to recreate for a store costume.
  • Your costume needs to be an original design of yours, not an assembly of current Poptropica costume parts.
  • Three entries maximum per person!
  • Give your costume a name and put your Poptropican’s name on it, and if you want, your age. Do not include your last name or where you live. For example, your entry could say something like “Winter Fun Outfit by Happy Catfish, age 14.”

(Be sure to read the full contest rules for a better understanding!)

I think this update is fantastic, since there are so many creative and talented Poptropicans in this community! What do you think? Let me know in the comment section below.

In other (sadder) news, as you may have heard, Star Wars’ Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) passed away at age 60 the other day. As a tribute to Carrie, Poptropica has made some posts on social media – you can see the snapchats below. (Thanks to Brave Tomato and Teen Arachnid for the pics.) It looks like their Snapchat name is back to being “Official Poptropica” as well.

Well, I’ll talk to you all soon. Pop on!

Pop 5: Villains of Poptropica

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by TechWizard, who’s here to share his favorite five Poptropica villains. Keep in mind that this list is purely his opinion. With that said, enjoy! –🐠)

pop5-villains

Greetings, magnificent people of Poptropica! It’s your boi, TechWizard! What do I have today? Another Chubby Sun meme? No! A Top 5 list! A Top 5 Villains list, to be more precise! I know, right? Awesome! (By the by, this list contains spoilers, so read at your own risk.)

#5: Dr. Hare

Starting off with number 5 is Dr. Hare! I’ll admit, we all forget the originals sometimes. Dr. Hare certainly paved the way for Poptropica’s iconic villains. He’s 24 Carrot Island’s main bad guy, and this dude seriously did some bad stuff. He took some carrots from an entire island and hypnotized kids! That’s pretty darn villainous. Although, he doesn’t look so evil when he’s hula hooping on the loading page.

#4: Zeus

Continuing on, my opinion of the number 4 best villain is Zeus! Zeus deserves every aspect of attention here. He’s popped up more than he should have. And by too many, I mean two islands: Mythology Island and Super Villain Island.

In Mythology, he’s after the 5 sacred items. So you, being the innocent Poptropican, go and get them. Turns out Zeus is bad so the gods send you to go deal with him. You succeed in the end and all is right. And in Super Villain, well, let’s just say he’s the big plot twist.

#3: E. Vile

Number 3 on my list here is E. Vile! E.Vile is truly a forgotten villain., casted away into the shadows of forgotten Poptropica stuff. But let’s explain him some more. He’s the main villain of Legendary Swords, one of Pop’s mini-quests, which is no longer available (though you can still play it if you got the item card before it was taken off the store).

E. Vile sends out robots of all kinds to go attack you. So you fight back with swords! He’s also got super huge robots that you gotta defeat. When all that’s done, he taunts you via hologram and then you fly off into the intergalactic sunset.

#2: Captain Crawfish

Number 2 for this majestical list is Captain Crawfish! Captain Crawfish is your textbook pirate. He raids, craves treasure, and has a ship crew. His ship is so great that it would make any pirate run for the cargo hold. But what makes him different from the rest of the pirates is that he’s also a Poptropica Creator!

Of course, add in the Crawfish.

And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! The number one villain in Poptropica is…

Narf. Yup. Narf. This furry, orange nuisance is a minor villain in– nope, I kid!

#1: Mega Fighting Bots!

The TRUE number one villain, in my opinion, are the Mega Fighting Bots developers! You never see true teamwork amongst villains. And besides, these guys rule! They worked amongst the shadows, at first acting so friendly towards you, disguised as mere developers. Perhaps you didn’t suspect a thing as you explored the unfinished realm of Mocktropica, trying to find the former Poptropica staff so they could right the wrongs of this broken island.

It’s only at the end that they’re revealed as the baddies, and they show up with their own mechs based off of their Mega Fighting Bots. And the mechs can form into a super mech! AWESOME!

Well, that’s my list. Agree or disagree? Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments below! Anyway, tally ho!

New Poptropica: Delayed? Will it ever be released?

newpop

Hey everyone, it’s Perfect Sky!

So as most of us have noticed over the past few months, many theories about possible release dates for the New Poptropica have been spreading around the community. But now, with only five days left, most people agree that the game is most likely not going to be launched “later this year.”

new-pop

Earlier this month, some people thought the New Poptropica could be released on Christmas (Dec 25th). But Christmas is over now, and just as I thought, the game was not released.

Another theory I’ve heard recently, is the possibility of a New Years release. But as cool as that would be, I highly doubt it would happen. Considering it didn’t happen as a Christmas miracle, we probably won’t have any more luck for New Years. Sure, it’s possible, but let’s not get our hopes up.

The Creators are probably very busy, and taking a short break due to the holidays. All we know from a recent Creators’ Blog post, is that something interesting is going to be discussed on the blog soon.

new-pop-2

Two Creators wrote that post? Hmm, interesting…

Although we don’t know exactly what this is about, it’s obviously something important. It could be as big as trailer for the New Pop, or just an announcement about the costume design contest. Since they specified that it’s something to “talk about,” it’s possible that they could be discussing a general release time. We can take a guess about what this could be, but really, there’s no way to know for sure, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Now, there’s one major topic I’d like to cover. Recently, I’ve heard some talk about the New Pop being cancelled (or just delayed another whole year, or longer). I strongly believe this is false.

The thing is, the Creators know what they’re doing. As they stated in the first announcement, the Creators have been working on this project for a while. They wouldn’t have announced the plan of a new game to the public until they knew it was official, and enough progress had been made for the project to definitely continue. If this idea was still at the point where it could be cancelled at any moment, and no serious decision had been made, the Creators would not have announced it.

Of course, some issues could’ve come up along the way, causing the game development to take longer than expected, but that doesn’t mean it has been cancelled. Even though it hasn’t been released as soon as we expect, the Creators most likely have a general idea when it will be finished. Again, I’m sure they would not have announced the New Pop until they knew they would be able to finish it.

I personally don’t think a delay would last any longer than a month or two, but of course, we don’t know for sure.

Until we receive the news later this week, whatever that would be, it’s best to remain patient, and be understanding of any issues that could’ve caused a delay.

Well, that’s all for now. Feel free to share your thoughts about this in the comments below!
