Cryptids Island, Daily Pop Sneak Peeks

Makeup tests on Tibetan mountaintops

Perhaps you know about the failed gif on the PCB a couple of days ago. Well, no need to be curiously sitting and wondering what it was all about.

Animation re-test

(Please go here to see the gif, as I am unable to copy and paste nor save it)

Nothing like a make-up exam.

SHARK BOY

Although, if you examine if long enough, you may notice that the gif does stop after a while, in the same position it seemed to be eternally stuck in on the previous post. There is a strong chance the horse may be from Wild West island, as you immediately think horsies and pretty ponies when you think cowboys!

Notice how the horse looks awfully similar to a new Daily Pop picture?

There’s also several more Daily Pop pictures– check them out!

It looks a bit like Uno– but the title does say Jack. Perhaps a Poptropica form of Slap Jack, Black Jack, or even an entirely new game!

“Now, lerkey here, Creators. Yer release Cryptids Island sooner then planned and we dun have to report you to the Sheriff. Ev’rybody wins.”

These baddies don’t scare me! *whimper*

I don’t think I want to know either…

Hey, look! There’s Captain Crawfish, kids!

RCG: Oh, hi Captain Crawfish!
CC XII: Agggghhh!
RCG: Got a toothache?
CC XII: Youre…you’re one of those bratty PHB people who always like
to eat me!
RCG: It’s all cool. I don’t like seafood.
CC XII: Oh, very well…I guess I can tell you about the new post.

Tales from the Cryptids

Cryptids Island can be dangerous for an old salt like me. Sea legs I’ve got. Mountaineering arms, not so much. Good thing I found a guide to help me out.

Cryptids Island will be open to everybody next Tuesday, January 18!

CAPTAIN CRAWFISH

Whispers from the shadows: Mmm…salt.
CC XII: Who said that??!?!
RCG: No one. It’s okay, Crawfishy.
CC XII: Arghhh, I’m not so sure about that.
RCG: Oh, well. It’s a shame I didn’t bring any salt myself, but I guess you’re already bloated from it, living on the seas and such. It was nice knowing you. I’m glad we could become acquaintances. …Ok guys! Come on in!
*rest of PHB team appears*
CC XII: B-b-but you said you didn’t like seafood!
RCG: I never said that the others didn’t like seafood…

*THUNDER CACKLES*

(lights flicker on an off until there is complete darkness)

Random PHB Member: Hey! That’s my finger! AGGGHH! SOMEONE’S EATING MY HAND!
Random PHB Member 2: I’m eating someone’s hand? *barf*
RCG: SOMEONE GET OFF OF ME BEFORE I SMACK THEM!
Random PHB Member 3: Where’s that Crawfish Dude? He’s gotten away!

CC XII: Heh heh… now, onto my next adventure!

More tales from the Cryptids

Whether an ocean or a lake — or “loch,” as some call it — I’m always more comfortable on a boat than on land. But during my trip to Scotland in Cryptids Island, I was the passenger and not a captain. I even found time to take pictures.

Did I find proof of the Loch Ness Monster?

CAPTAIN CRAWFISH

RCG: *sigh* Notice the strange ridges along “Nessie”? They don’t exactly look like scales. I think you only saw truck tires or giant rusty mechanical gears.
CC XII: How’d you get here?!
RCG: Oh, I’m apart of the PHB posting a random update, and this is only written text. That means I can go where ever I want, as long as the words take me! You’re simply only typed up as well. Did I mention I’m a secret sorceress?
CC XII: That makes no sense…
Sneak Peeks

Giffy Goodness!

Captian Crawfish XI: I didn’t even post this!

El: Yeah, so..? You’re here anyway. Let’s get this over with.

Captian Crawfish XI: Uh oh… *gets engulfed in EL’s mouth*

EL: Omnomnom. Now on with the horse gif.

Bonus Items, Daily Pop Sneak Peeks

Kite Flight

On Cryptids Island, if you didn’t already know, you can fly kites from the kite store! There’s lots of them to choose from, such as this panda one:

https://poptropi.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/kites.gif?w=300
"Pandas do make me smile."

For non-members, Cryptids Island is apparently opening on Tuesday, January 18. Which isn’t exactly fair because they had originally released the date as January 17. Sneaky Creators. 😐

In other news, there are some new Daily Pop sneak peeks you might want to take a look at the next time you log in:

  • Buzz On – Will this scavenging bird make an appearance in Poptropica?
  • Horse Face – A horse learns to express itself.
  • Take That to the Bank – This scene could use the color of money – and some other shades, too.
  • Yippie for Hippies – No, there’s no Hippie Island planned. We’re always trying out new costume ideas.
  • The (Steam) Works – Most of these ideas never made it into Steamworks Island, but they helped us figure out how we wanted it to look.
  • What a Drag – Gold cards go through the same creative process as islands. Here’s an early look at something that may end up in the Store.
  • Ready, Yeti? – An early sketch of Bigfoot for Cryptids Island. We decided to make him scarier!
  • The Missing Link – Will these cavemen concept sketches ever find a home on Poptropica?

And don’t forget to take Poptropica’s quick survey when you log in! Giving your opinions may help the Creators understand what YOU want from the game!

Jeff Kinney talks about Cryptids Island

Hijuyo: Hey guys, today we’ve got big news for you Poptropicans, and to make it all the more awesome, Jeff Kinney is going to guest-star in this post with me!
Jeff: Hi Poptropicans, my name is Jeff Kinney, and I’m the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. But I also work here at Poptropica, where we’ll always bring you new islands for you to enjoy. Our latest island is called Cryptids Island.
Hijuyo: Sweet. There’s a lot of hype about that. What can you tell us about it?
Jeff: It’s all about Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, the Chupacabra, the Jersey Devil. I love these stories of legendary creatures and we think you guys are gonna love it too.
Hijuyo: Nice! When can we play it?
Jeff: On December 20th, the new island comes out for members, and then it comes out to the general public a few weeks later. I think you’re gonna love this island, and I think you’re gonna love what we have in store for 2011.
Hijuyo: 2011’s not too far away! What can we look forward to?
Jeff: Many more games and islands for you to enjoy and experience. Hope you have fun!

Well, that’s all the time Jeff has for us, but you may have picked up some very interesting things the Creators let us see in that video!

  • Jeff’s room is filled with Poptropica merchandise, including some unreleased ones! There’s also a framed picture of him next to a statue with a beard. 😛
  • Poptropica game cards! If you’re interested in those, read more about them here.
  • Poptropica wall posters! Not sure where you can get those, since Poptropica’s LTLprints store doesn’t seem to stock them.
  • Poptropica Fun Book! Maybe we’ll see these hit bookstores soon! The title suggests it might be a Poptropica activity book, with puzzles or games or whatever that can be done on paper. 😛
  • Video peeks of the upcoming Cryptids Island! Bushes trimmed to be shaped like Nessie, a hot air balloon, a sherpa campsite, and more.
  • Wild West Island! Perhaps the most interesting peek of all, this is hinted on a poster on one of the walls. This might also explain the recent Daily Pop sneak peeks.

What else do you think might be in store for Poptropica’s future?
