Top 5 Picks

Crisis Caverns by Jesta7

Jesta7 - Crisis Caverns

Despite some disappointments from Crisis Caverns, I think we can all agree that the island had beautiful scenes. Taking inspiration from those scenes, this drawing excellently uses lighting to its advantage. Stunning shading and a very cool color scheme. Everything gives off an intense, motivated vibe. Brilliant! Find her DeviantArt here.

Crisis Caverns by HappyCloneTrooper

HappyCloneTrooper - Crisis Caverns

Another piece that captures the beauty of Crisis Caverns Island very well. The bright, glowing crystals easily captivate the eye and make it hard to look away. Though the entire drawing is fairly simple, it makes for a crazy cool background and expresses a great use of geometric shapes. The lighting and pink tone in my opinion are just great. Find her DeviantArt here.

Meeting Poptropica World’s Happy Sun by TechnoBunny16

TechnoBunny16 - Meeting Poptropica World's Happy Sun

Yep, it’s what we all first saw when Poptropica Worlds was announced… fingers. A simple figure drawing, yes, but a very accurate portrayal of what our original Poptropicans would feel upon meeting their new counter-parts. We all had to give up on some key parts of our old outfits, but that doesn’t mean our new characters can’t have just as cute of a design! Humorous and adorable. Find her DeviantArt here.

Who Spilled the Bleach? by Jellow McFellow

JelloMcFellow - Who Spilled the Bleach

Okay, I couldn’t not include this piece, because it’s just too relateable. With Poptropica Worlds’ release, many, many glitches were released along side it. Including one in particular now widely known as Bleachy Boy, where all of a Poptropican’s clothes and color disappear. The situation in the drawing is hilarious and it provides a feeling that lots of us are all too familiar with. Well done, haha! Find his DeviantArt here.

The Poptropica Worlds Gang by Yumgirl

Yumgirl - The Poptropica Worlds Gang

Very cute characters that you can just tell had a lot of thought put into them. Don’t believe me? Well, you can read each Poptropican’s detailed description yourself. We all have our beloved Poptropica OC’s, but there aren’t nearly as many Poptropica Worlds specific OC’s our there yet. Simple composition, but adorable and well drawn! Find her DeviantArt here.

July: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fic, realms, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is July’s theme? July’s theme is…

Literature!

We tend to mainly get visual art submissions, but remember that this series embraces all forms of creativity! So, I wanted to provide a month that focuses the spotlight on other media. That being said, visual art is still welcomed this month!

Ever wanted to cross over Poptropica with your favorite book series? Now’s your chance! Ever want to see a Harry Potter or Hunger Games Island? Make it yourself!

harrypop

Any and all written work will be accepted this month, no matter the theme of it. Just has to be Poptropica related as usual! Poetry, songs, fan-fic, etc. are included. But if you’re not much of a writer, don’t worry! Just make your piece relate to a famous novel, comic, poet, etc. Make sense? You can even make a book character into a Poptropica costume if your heart desires!

  • Submitting: Comment below with a link to whatever you’ve created OR share it with me (SydVC aka Spotted Dragon) on DeviantArt, Twitter, or Discord.
  • Results: I will feature 5 of the submissions as well as 3 honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Nothing NSFW, and make sure you relate to the theme.
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will always be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. Bonus points if you make a compelling description for your piece! While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

PHB Specials, Social Media

PHB Special: #MyPopsona from the PHB Team!

Hey Poptropicans!

A while back, Skinny Moon posted on the Creators’ Blog (twice, actually) about Popsonas, which is shorthand invented by the Poptropica community to mean Poptropica personas. Such creations have been a longtime tradition among the fandom, and this fun practice continues to this day. In fact, you’re invited to join in.

One’s Popsona tells the story of their Poptropica character, and the details are up to you: you can create a backstory, personality, likes/dislikes, and more! Some of the staff writers here on the PHB wanted to create and share their own Popsonas, so in this post, we’ll be doing just that. Here we go!

 Slanted Fish

Slanted Fish hails from Shark Tooth Island, where she has always admired the swimming fish, including the bright blue betta she adopted from the sea. Born as Friendly Fish, she acquired the nickname Slanted Fish in her youth as a wordplay on her Chinese name. This Fishy finds her home in both land and ocean; bustling cities and secluded islands.

She went on to study many of her passions, including art and writing, at Ephraim University on Mocktropica Island. These days, Slanted Fish works as the editor-in-chief of a Poptropica publication known as the Poptropica Help Blog. She is often traveling around various Poptropica islands to promote the PHB, but also travels to relax and catch up with Poptropicans all over the community.

Spotted Dragon

sd popsona

Born on Monster Carnival Island, Spotted Dragon grew up in an apartment off main street with a distant view of the carnival. Not being much of an extrovert, SD admired the carnival from afar and often just stayed within the comfort of her own home, occasionally visiting the Lazy Sundae Ice Cream shop for a sweet treat. She did small jobs for the local newspaper to earn money and gradually found an interest in photography. Sadly, she had lots of insecurities, especially about her hair that seemed to constantly change shades of brown.

As an only child, SD grew bored of her aging parents’ simple lifestyle and as an adolescent decided to leave home in search of her passion. Inheriting her grandmother’s blimp, she started to fly around Poptropica as a loner, eventually learning how to maintain a constant set of odd photography jobs. Today, Spotted Dragon resides on Home Island, in a house she bought herself. After really finding her personality, she managed to become widely known throughout Poptropica for her tendencies to help everyone she meets, snapping pictures along the way.

She briefly attended Ephraim University, expanding her knowledge on subjects like journalism and discovering her non-traditional name translation of Sydney Doragon, but soon dropped out for financial reasons. Thankfully, she met Slanted Fish and much later earned herself a job working for the Poptropica Help Blog as an author and photographer. SD continues to travel for her work and personal adventurers and has acquired lots of confidence in herself. She shows a great interest in the arts, casual soccer, pride advocacy, and of course her trusty hoodie. She is asexual and panromantic, has a varying INTJ-T and INFJ-T personality, funny in the stupidest of ways, became best friends with Silver Wolf, and loves music.

Slippery Raptor

popsona

Who am I? You sure you want to know? The story of my life is not for the faint of heart. If somebody said it was a happy little tale if somebody told you I was just your average ordinary guy, not a care in the world… somebody lied. But let me assure you — this, like any story worth telling, is all about a Poptropican….

I grew up in River City, one of Shrink Ray Island’s cities. I attended River City High, where I was one of the kids on the honor roll. CJ was one of my study buddies back then, and I actually helped her with her shrink ray project. Sadly, I never got to attend the science fair because there was an interstate debate that I had to compete in.

My family later moved to Red Dragon Island, and that’s where I met Jack and Annie, who were my neighbors next door. They showed me the joy of reading books! I instantly fell in love with books, and sometimes you can find me hanging out in the Frog Creek Library past dusk.

Later, I moved to Mocktropica Island to attend the ever-prestigious Ephraim University. The university life was bizarre for me, and I met Slanted Fish, then a college senior who also attended my journalism classes. Upon reading one of my essays, she invited me to take part in the journalism club, which then grew into the renowned Poptropica publication, the Poptropica Help Blog.

Today, I continue to quench my thirst for learning, travel to many Poptropica islands, write poetry, and watch world-famous musicals on Back Lot Island.

Lucky Joker

Lucky Joker was born on Back Lot Island and lived on the overlooking hills of the island for most of his life. He’s an only child and often did things on his own since he didn’t have many friends to play with. He found various ways to entertain himself like coloring and solving puzzles, but what he likes to do most (and still does today) was learning.

Lucky gained an interest for Greek Mythology, in particular, and in the pursuit of his own happiness, packed up his bags and moved to Mythology Island. Currently, he studies Greek history, art, literature, and mythology, while still having the time to enjoy the peaceful environment his new home offers him. He also writes on the widely-known Poptropica Help Blog to practice his writing – another favorite pastime of his.

Happy Lobster

hl popsona

Happy Lobster was born and grew up in Ghost Story Island. There weren’t many children who lived on the island, but he made friends with a boy who held a perhaps unhealthy interest in tinfoil hats, and another boy with a red bolt across his face who had come from Astro-Knights Island with his parents. But Happy Lobster was intrigued by all the Poptropicans who came by on yellow blimp to try and solve some enigmatic problem the island harbored.

When he reached 18, he visited the Trading Post at Wild West Island, where he discovered an old yellow blimp – just like the ones he had seen arrive multiple times on his home island! He received it in turn for giving up one of his modern ghost comics, which the owner was more than happy to read about, seeing as he was from a totally different time. At once, with his new blimp, Happy Lobster decided to roam around the world of Poptropica, and stop off at islands where there were unusual rumors, such as dangerous forest creatures and vampires kidnapping seemingly random girls – who knew Poptropica was such a mess nearly everywhere these days?

Happy Lobster eventually came to Monster Carnival Island, where he prevented the sinister aims of the mysterious Ringmaster Raven. After Raven decided to become The Incredible Chicken Man with a lot less villain aspirations, Happy Lobster moved from Ghost Story to Monster Carnival Island, where he had made friends with (nearly) all the carnies from The Monster Carnival – and hey, the Lazy Sundae Ice Cream Shop was pretty sweet, too!

Soon afterwards, Happy Lobster attended Ephraim University, and met Slanted Fish, Spotted Dragon, Slippery Raptor and Purple Claw… the last of which looked very similar to one of his childhood friends. Towards the end of his time at the university, Slanted Fish decided to make a blog about all the wonders of Poptropica – and invited some of her university friends, including Happy Lobster, to join her in writing it!

Silver Wolf

sw popsona

Silver Wolf was born on Mystery Train Island and lived there until she saved the Chicago World Fair from peril in 1893. At the time, she was defined by her iconic purple hair and inspector-like clothing. The event sparked a desire in her to solve more mysteries, so she traveled all across Poptropica to help others, gaining small amounts of money along the way. Once she saved enough, she bought her own private island to live with her many pets: cats, dogs, parrots, hamsters, you name it!

She settled down on her island until the 21st century, when she decided she wanted to do more with her (very long) life. That’s when she started to blog about the world. She also changed her 19th-century outfit to a more modern one, including a joystick t-shirt and headphones.

Since she hasn’t seemed to age, no one knows when exactly when she is going to fulfill her dreams of being a veterinarian, as she seems content as she is. However, what is known about her is that she mainly keeps to herself, enjoys reading fantasy and adventure books, and plays a multitude of video games; it seems as if she keeps interests of the old and modern.

Purple Claw

pc popsona

Purple Claw was born in the great land of Arturus of Astro-Knights Island, and lived there with his mother until he became seven. They moved to Ghost Story Island after PC’s 7th birthday to take care of his grandparents. Over there, he only had two friends, one of them being Happy Lobster.

When Purple Claw turned 18, he got an email from the PND (The Poptropica Nature Defenders) to go on a trip to Nabooti Island to find the missing jewels. PC was absolutely stunned by their proposal, and joined the adventure. Besides the jewels, Nabooti Island had so many beautiful places to visit, that he even made a blog post about his adventure! And ’til this day, he still documents all of Poptropica’s wonders whenever he goes on adventures on his blog!

A year later, Purple Claw attended Ephraim University, and met Slanted Fish, Slippery Raptor, Happy Lobster and Spotted Dragon. The best part was that he met one of his childhood friends there, him being Happy Lobster! He also became an author on a Poptropica publication: the Poptropica Help Blog, run by those friends, a couple of months later.

During his free time, PC likes reading, drawing, writing, playing video games, or taking long walks with his owl, Silver Acorn. Or, if he’s not doing any of this stuff, he’s probably sleeping. 😛

Thanks for reading our Popsona stories!

Now tell us, what’s your Poptropican’s Popsona like? Feel free to share down in the comments, or post on social media with the hashtag #MyPopsona so even the Creators can see it and possibly re-post it! We’d love to hear your story!

Top 5 Picks

Fierce Flyer and the Dragon by Fierce Flyer

Fierce Flyer - Fierce Flyer and the Dragon

Bright colors evoke a great sense of adventure in this piece! Bringing to mind the dangers we all faced in islands like Astro-Knights, this drawing brings those emotions to life through this exciting scene. With all these bold colors, the rest of this epic adventure is left up to the imagination! Plus, don’t we all love spotted dragons? Perfect for our myth theme! Find his DeviantArt here.

Ghost Story by GoldenFox2019

GoldenFox2019 - Ghost Story

A beautiful, dark piece featuring the thrilling Ghost Story Island. The mist effects are wonderful and the glowing violin really draws in the viewer’s attention. I think Ghost Story Island holds a place in all of our hearts and it most certainly includes compelling myth elements. *Cue flashbacks of the “Are you looking for someone?” jump-scare* Find her DeviantArt here.

 Hulder by Lil’ Poptrystal (Elise)

LilPoptrystalTemp (Elise) - Hulder

A unique combination of traditional and digital art has a great impact on this drawing. It also combines Poptropica with a lesser known mythological creature called a hulder. They are beautiful women who use their captivating singing voices to lure men into caves. You learn something new everyday, right? The piece’s spooky effects and fun portrayal of Twisted Thicket Island is breath-taking  (just like the hulder herself). Find her DeviantArt here.

Hanging Around for a Bit by IceSquared

IceSquared - Hanging Around for a Bit

Inspired by Early Poptropica, this cute play on the classic fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk is hilarious. The simple colors and composition of the objects give off a great storybook vibe and even provide the impression of a book cover. Just wait until he gets to see that purple giant! The cartoon-ish design easily depicts a fun setting and tone. Find his DeviantArt here.

Mysteries, Myths, and Legends by Sporty Boa

Sporty Boa - Mysteries, Myths, and Legends

Covering pretty much all of our theme’s bases, this drawing includes your classic knight, a big name from Greek mythology of course, and even the Elf Queen herself. All three of which are prominent in the world of Poptropica! Simplistic in design it may be, but it does prove how wide Poptropica’s storytelling can reach. Well made! Find his Twitter here.

Poptropica Worlds!

Upon its recent release, Poptropica Worlds has sparked a lot of different reactions and opinions. Though most of us are still getting used to all the changes, that doesn’t mean we can’t use this even to spark artistic inspiration as well!

Draw some beautiful Crisis Caverns scenes, design a new outfit for your newly-styled Poptropican, show off how you decorated your house, and that’s just to name a few ideas! Remember that written work is also accepted, so come up with some creative ways to express your ideas on this big change!

Remember that you can submit not only drawings, but literature, costumes, etc. as well. And the more detail/backstory, the better! 😉

Popspiracy Theories

Popspiracy: What’s Behind Those Closed Doors?

doors popspiracy

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some theories on what’s behind our house’s doors in Poptropica Worlds! This idea was introduced by commenter Silver Bear, who asked what’s behind the doors and how to get into them.

The doors are most likely going to be expansions of the house, but the exciting part is what type of expansions they will be.

Common Rooms? Party at your house!

One of my first theories is that we could have our very own common room! We could choose from templates of common rooms and change them whenever we want. The templates could look like regular rooms of a house, common rooms from other islands, or anything! Like regular common rooms, there could be multiple servers of the common room so it wouldn’t get too crowded.

Door

I especially think that tribe common rooms would be available since they were already separate and not tied to an island in Poptropica. Updated with the new graphics and art style, they could be really cool and could be expanded even further than before. Since they’re in our house, maybe we could even decorate them further just for us to view without affecting what others see.

A similar idea is that we could even design our own multiverse. We could decorate the room how we please and, when ready to invite over friends, click a button to create a random code so that they can join. The multiverse could end when the person who created it leaves, logs off, cancels the code, or becomes inactive for 10 minutes or so.

Trophy Rooms? Show off your stuff!

A simpler but more realistic theory is that the rooms could hold different types of items from islands. I think there will be a trophy room in particular because why else would Poptropica Worlds switch from coins and allow the trophies to go in our house? I mean, we’ll have a lot of trophies eventually.

trophy
Trophy awarded for completing Crisis Caverns (picture credit: @PoptropicaBlog on Twitter)

A room could also be a gallery that holds our photos taken when we play islands, and we could choose what photos to put up and switch them around the way we want.

As for ways of opening the doors, the simple solution would be to use coins or Membership, but there are plenty of other ways we could open them too. I think that for at least one we could finish a special quest to open the door; the quest could even be specifically just for opening it. The doors may be able to be opened by completing islands in a certain time frame depending on their length and difficulty as well. For example, Skullduggery would have a longer time frame than Early Poptropica.

My last theory is that the Creators will scatter items or secrets across islands that we have to collect to open one of the doors. Maybe to open the door we have to learn some of Poptropica’s long lost secrets and history to get an ancient key.

When will these expansions come? Well, it’s taken well over a year — that we know of — for them to release Poptropica Worlds. That makes me think that these won’t come anytime soon, especially customizable multiverses. Maybe in a month they will release a regular room expansion for coins, but I think that anything more complex would take a really long time; after all, there aren’t even any social features yet, and there’s only one island so far that we can complete.

That’s all for my theories on what’s behind the doors! Feel free to add your own theories in the comments!

Pop Petitions

Pop Petition: What We Want From Pop Worlds

Pop Petition Header

Hey Poptropicans, Spotted Dragon here, and I’m here to kick off a new PHB series!

Pop Petitions, a new PHB post series, will focus on what we (both the PHB team and all of you, the community) want to see changed or added in Poptropica (and/or its surrounding community). Or should I now say, Poptropica Worlds?

Yep, the cat is finally out of the bag and, as of this week, Poptropica Worlds was released the public. It’s not completely polished up yet, but we can at least see what direction the game is headed in from our first look at it!

There have been a lot of changes to what we all know and love from the classic game, but are all these changes necessarily bad? Lots of mixed emotions from everyone in the community on this, that’s for sure. So today, we’ll talk about some of the things that we want to see added to Poptropica Worlds.

#1: Costumizer

Yep, we all noticed it was gone… the Costumizer. We got to see a lot of cool new characters in Pop World’s release, along with a ton of new outfits, but no real way to get all of them. Sure, there was the customization of your character when you first log in, and there will always be the clothes in the store, but what happens when we get jealous of the people we meet on our adventures?

clothing

It’s a classic feature that I’m sure everyone wants back. Right now, I think it’s been tricky for everyone to get their Poptropican’s original look back, and adding this feature would be a step in the right direction, considering that some store apparel is limited to members only.

#2: Colorizer

Another classic feature that allows for infinite customization: the Colorizer! We all know the struggle right now of how tough it can be getting exactly the right skin and hair color for our avatars. Just like the Costumizer, the addition of this feature would really help us personalize our Poptropicans, so I for one hope it gets brought back.

CustomizerNewYou

I mean… what happens when I get the urge to virtually dye my hair? We’ve had a Colorizer on Home Island in the past, so it doesn’t seem like a stretch for it to be put back in the game.

#3: Friends

Adding friends, as well as customizing your own profile, has become a large part of Poptropica. It was fun to customize what your friends were wearing, earn photos from different islands, add costumes to your closet if you could, and so much more. But where has it gone?

Friends, statues, fires and babies.

Before, not only could you add friends, but you could also create multiverses, show off your personality, and more from your profile. Perhaps there could be better ways to personalize your account, and that might be something they’re working on, but it was definitely a nice feature to play around with when taking a break from an island.

#4: Multiverse

Similar to adding friends, Multiverse rooms have always been a fun way to meet up with your pals. Whether it was a random room or an intentionally created party room, Multiverses have always been a big part of the game. You could battle other Poptropicans in head-to-head games, or just relax and chat if you wanted to.

jan2014 multiverse

Adding onto Multiverses, I think it would be cool to have more options when it comes to interacting with friends. Maybe we could invite people to our cool new homes to party?

#5: Home Expansions & Home Island Features

One big new thing that Poptropica Worlds brought us was definitely our houses. Which makes sense, since we have a “Home Island,” right? Anyway, there are currently ways to customize your house, but only with what’s already there. What if we run out of room for our merch? It’s a problem I strongly relate to in the real world.

I think we could definitely benefit from house expansions, and if the locked doors inside our houses are any indicator, perhaps this feature is already on its way – so start saving those credits!

house

Not only would I like to see more house options, but I’d also like to see more features on Home Island itself. In the past, we’ve had the “New You” shop, the “Shop” (store), the photo booth, arcade, and most recently, a movie theater. While the theater was disappointing to most, it would be nice to make the island feel more like a home, with more interactive buildings (a Multiverse perhaps?).

These are just some of the perks that we (the PHB team) want to see, but what about you guys? What do YOU want to see added to Poptropica Worlds? Anything you aren’t liking so far? The new style is here to stay, but that doesn’t mean we can’t throw some other cool ideas out there.

But first things first, right? Let’s see more ISLANDS get added! 😀
