Prisons and caves; masks and balloon launchers

Hey Poptropicans!ย If you’ve read our Q&A with Poptropica CEO Jess Brallier in this recent PHB post, you may have wondered what was meant by the ominous hint of an island to come: “Some place you donโ€™t wanna be.”ย We gave a few clues in the comments, and some of you have figured it out โ€“ after Timmy Failure Islandย and Arabian Nights Ep. 3, we’re headed to a prison, of all places!

The Daily Pop recently revealed some jail scenes, and don’t forget about the sneak peek ofย dogs and police officersย Poptropica tweeted as a behind-the-scenes pic:

Our Daily Pop Sneak Peek Archive was recently updated as well, and amid all the Timmy Failure peeks was a hint that the underground cave island had not been forgotten (although “Mole Man” is for TF Island, the caption is worth a mention). Maybe due to someย nudging over on Twitter, though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

On a different note, if you head over to some of the Main Streets, you may find an ad poster for Scholastic books: in particular,ย Tombquest, Spirit Animals, 39 Clues, and Infinity Ring. Clicking on it will give you Character Masks (a mummy, leopard, fedora, and pirate’s hat for each series respectively) and a printable Summer Wish List.

There is also a CapriSun Push Play advertisement on Night Watch Island, and the prize is a Balloon Launcher.ย Press the spacebar whileย holding it, and your character shoots other Poptropicans with blue, indigo, and green balloons. (Thanks to Cuddly Knuckle for the tip, and HPuterpop for providing pictures!)

The Missing Link: Octavian’s secret

Hi Gs,

So, you guys have faithfully been waiting for the next Missing Link about my giant Time Tangled theory – well, it looks like I was onto something.

If you guys have read any of the Mystery of the Map novel (which involves the origin of Poptropica), you may have realized that it basically debunked my theory – it looked like that time travel and inconsistencies have nothing to do with Poptropica’s wacky timeline. In fact, it didn’t look like there was much a timelineย in the first place, what with the apparent viking island being a part of Poptropica as a whole, and not a teleported time period.

But just recently, I was looking through MotM at Octavian’s appearances, searching for an Easter egg. I found multiple Easter eggs throughout, not all about Octavian, and I’ll be posting more about those in the future, but for now, we’re talking about Octavian.

Two things to mention about the excerpts: first, Octavian saying “Because it is time.” If I have learned anything from the Flash on the CW, its to look out for double meanings in phrases. Time is mentioned indirectly multiple times throughout the book, not only by Octavian. So let’s think about the phrase as a double meaning; “Because it is time”. To preface, Mya shouts “Why are you doing this?!” while she hangs off of the balloon. So his motive for crashing the balloon is time. Now how does that fit in? Read more to find out!

Daily Pop Peeks: Here comes Timmy Failure!

Hey Poptropicans! News has been a bit sparse lately in the Poptropica world, so now seems a good a time as any for another peek into the Daily Pop sneak peeks. This month’s peeks (and a few from last month) thus far have all been pointing to the previously confimed Timmy Failure Island:

It looks like this sponsored island will be drawn in a more flat, cartoony style unlike the typical Poptropica graphics (think Big Nate Islandย or Galactic Hot Dogs Island).

Personally I much prefer Poptropica’s usual style – evenย sponsored islands like Red Dragon or Nabooti are often forgotten to not be completely Poptropica-original quests because their art style fits the rest of the islands, and they tendย not to be remembered as “just another [mediocre] sponsored island quest.” Let me know in the comments what you think: is the idea of Timmy Failure Island a failure, especially for those not well-acquainted with the franchise?

Meanwhile, the underground cave island we were hoping for this year seems to have been placed on the back burner as TF Island takes its place, according to this tweet:

In the rest of theย Poptropica illustration world, we get a peek at a loose concept art painting (calling Poptropica “the Spirit of Adventure”) stated to be “new and not for any specific purpose”. Popstorm #27 has also been published, with the caption “Meet the frog family”.

Poptropicaย alsoย casually mentioned this fun little protip for the next time you’re playing around on Realms: pressing the F key causes an avalanche!

Mega-After-Map Costumes!

Hi Gs,

Lots of stuff to go over, let’s get right to it;

First of all, to celebrateย the newly released Galactic Hot Dogs book, the Creators put in a new promo code for a crazy looking Mega Dog Costume, along with a Jupiter Jolt sauce gun! The code is GHDBOOK, so run fast liek sanic over to the store to redeem the card.

Next, there are a handful of new cards that you can obtain by logging in for the Whatever After book series. While I shudder at the thought of the books, I must admit that the cards are pretty cool – one is aย Prince (boys) or Beauty (girls) to Beast costume, and the other is a Magic Mirror.

The prince/beast (or beauty/beast) costume is pretty simple – when you put it on, you turn into a prince (or princess) – but when you press space bar, you turn into a beast! Cool costumes, me like. ๐Ÿ™‚

whatever

The magic mirror is a bit simpler – equip it and press spacebar to say some quotes from… somewhere. Honestly, this item is pretty peculiar.

Next, the first installment of the Mystery of the Map graphic novel is going to be over tomorrow, and I have a feeling that’s when they’re going to be announcing the upcoming island. If you didn’t know already, you can go ahead and read tomorrow’s page today with our Comics archive. ๐Ÿ˜€

Lastly, there are a few new items in the store, pertaining to Mystery of the Map. They’re technically not able to be bought yet, as they won’t appear in your inventory, but they’re still pretty cool. (Psst! There’s a glitch going on right now where nonmembers can buy a ton of Member’s Only cards! Run fast liek sanic!!)

So, are you going to be reading the new GHD book? And are you excited for MotM Island? Tell me in the comments.

TAFN.
