idk sent in a lot of Crisis Caverns screenshots, so much so that I already have a draft of Part 2 coming out tomorrow. Today, I’ll be analyzing them to find out what Crisis Caverns could’ve been. Or… what could be?
Palace Interior
Interior, crocodile, alligator – I drive a Chevrolet movie theater.
So, we all know this was the Mole King’s throne, or at least what was intended to be so. I really, really like the color palette and aesthetics the caverns had, especially the palace interior. I wish this island was a reality.
Palace Exterior
If you can tell, at the very left of the scene – there’s a hole. This area doesn’t seem to be quite finished developmental wise, but my bet is that it leads to the inner palace.
Orange Orbs
First off, we can see a few orange Orb (Legends). It seems if this was finished, the rocks would have a professional glow, and not just an orange circle with low opacity. That, or it’s indication for the coder’s to make it function or something.
Power Drill
It seems to align perfectly with the drill itself, so it’s definitely a generator of some kind.
Cavern Crazy
Really not much I can add here, but the only crisis in these caverns is that we never got to play it.
Today I’m here to talk about a video just posted by Poptropica’s YouTube channel, entitled “Poptropica: A fun and safe virtual world for kids!” It can also be viewed on the front page of the Poptropica website.
The video is less than a minute long and shows many of the different worlds in Poptropica.
And now, time for an over-analysis/summary of it!
The video starts off in the clouds and flies down through some islands before arriving at Mythology Island’s Mount Olympus, where we see a particularly angry Zeus send out a bolt of lightning.
Then a crowd of various Poptropica characters are shown at PoptropiCon as various streaks fly around, which are revealed to be the Mighty Action Force heroes Fashion Ninja, Goldface, Elf Archer, Teen Arachnid, and World Guy. (Nice of them to justify Elf Archer’s flying skills with some sort of… propeller-arrow thing, but how can World Guy and Fashion Ninja do it? I mean, even Teen Arachnid is a stretch with his web-slinging based on how they’re zooming around. Is it because of the magic auras? If that’s the case why did Elf Archer need the propeller-arrow? …I’m thinking too hard about this, aren’t I.)
Next a mystical space portal opens, showing us some… red glowing eyes? Dunno what that is. Maybe it’ll be relevant in the future.
Then it’s time for Zomberry Island, featuring Joe Puddy clinging to a giant blueberry rolling across a bridge. And then we get to see the Phoenix Warbird and whatever-Crawfish’s-ship-is-called fire cannons at each other. (And somehow they don’t destroy each other even though they’re approximately 10 feet apart.)
And for our closing shot, the Poptropica blimp (you can see the back view) travels over the various islands and up into the sky, revealing the title!
So, trailer! Has nice animation, but no rats. (Creators, why must you forsake us like this? You know all we truly want is rats!) They did feature Fashion Ninja and Teen Arachnid more prominently in PoptropiCon, meaning there might be more in store for that island and those characters. It also seems to hint at what’s to come with those red eyes in space. Seriously what was up with that. Well, it was a Daily Pop, but I still don’t really know what it means.
Speaking of Daily Pops, I found three others for this video: one of Mount Olympus, a rough of the blimp flying, and a 3D model of PoptropiCon. Looks like they’ve been working on this for at least six months. Well, kudos creators, all that time paid off. Looks really good!
That 3D model could possibly be a glimpse at how they’re using Unity to make a 2D game on a 3D platform. And there appears to be a more fluid animation style for Zeus and a slightly different look for the PoptropiCon heroes in the video, which might end up being related to New Pop. Or it’s just easier to animate that way, I dunno. At this point I think I’m just rambling.
So, there you have it! Proof that neither I nor Poptropica are dead.
There’s a new common room ad on Home Island’s Main Street for the upcoming Cartoon Network television crossover special event between Teen Titans Go & Powerpuff Girls – aptly titled Heroes vs. Heroes; or, as one might point out, Reboot vs. Reboot. Thanks to Yujo_Jacy_the_Jumpy_Coyote for the ad write-up, and both Yujo and Hyper Gamer for the pictures!
The advertisement seems to restricted in some way, since it is possible you may not see it at all.
The waves at the bottom are animated, even allowing your Poptropican to swim. Clicking on Beast Boy’s snail form at the top right corner will give every Poptropican in the room a temporary Beast Boy floatie, which will vanish once you leave the Common Room.
Grabbing Cyborg’s Foot at the bottom left will earn you the Teen Titans Costumes item and grabbing Beast Boy’s fish form will earn you the Beast Boy Power. The Teen Titans Costumes item allows access to costumes of Robin, Cyborg, and Raven respectively. The Beast Boy Power is a hand held item that will display Beast Boy transformations of either a dog, a gorilla, or a tyrannosaurus rex once spacebar is pressed.
Oddly enough, both items are Teen Titans Go themed – even clicking on the outside of the ad will link to a Teen Titans Go webpage. Perhaps the Powerpuff Girls already had their fair share of advertising items from their last appearance on Poptropica.
In addition, Poptropica glitcher WimpyKidFan has been able to load the ad into Poptropica Realms- albeit on a blank dark blue background.
On the subject of ads, Poptropica Creator Skinny Moon has been hanging out in Home Island’s Arcade common room with Poptropicans wearing the Finding Dory ad prizes! Check out her tweet:
In other news, Poptropica glitcher idk recently shared with us some item cards from the currently-cancelled Crisis Caverns Island: a button for the fictional Caldera State Park and an Island Medallion.
Also, Cool Octopus recently found a way to play the Poptropica Adventures DS game on his iOS device (such as iPhone). To do so, you will need to download a DS emulator for your device and find the Poptropica Adventures game from there.
Anyway, don’t forget about the PHB Summer Kickoff Party this Monday on the PHC – more details in our invitation post! We hope to see many of you there!
Mighty Gamer here with another sneak peeks post. Credit goes to idk for the video and xml file, which I’ll share first, and Teen Arachnid for more mini-game sneak peeks.
Crisis Caverns
Before going on about this, there’s some new information from idk that has come to light: Crisis Caverns Island is currently cancelled. Disappointing, but at least it’s the truth.
And from here on out, let’s remember to take any unofficial sneak peeks with a grain of salt – while they may be seen in the Poptropica files, they may not always become reality in the game. With that being said, let’s try to enjoy these sneak peeks!
Here’s a new Crisis Caverns video, which is of a room called “Secret Cave”, whatever that could really mean! I love the design. What do you think?
Somewhere throughout the video, you might have seen a couple stacks of stone. I thought it looked similar to the cheese in the trash can on Shrink Ray Island. I’m sure it’s only a coincidence, but it was just a little something I noticed.
Rotten rocks (Credit goes to Brave Dolphin for the screenshot!)
Rotten cheese
You won’t believe what’s in this xml file. Yes, yes. It’s another xml file. But this one has something interesting. As you read through it, you should find this line: “Congratulations! You have completed the Crisis Caverns Episode 1 quest.” Perhaps they were making another episodic adventure, or just using that as a template, but again, since the island is cancelled (at least for now), it doesn’t matter. 😦
Game Jam
Here are some sneak peeks for Game Jam, an unreleased mini-game mentioned in a previous PHB post. In the game, you defend yourself by using musical instruments. And as you can see, there are 5 Poptropicans at the bottom (pictured below) those of which you control.
You have to click at least twice to take out the closest light blue Zomberry in a column. For the dark purple Zomberries, you have to click about five times. But if you let the zombies get to the bottom, of course, the game will end. That’s every survival game, right? Here is a popup that will appear if you lose the game:
Zombie Catapult
In this mini-game that takes place on Zomberry Island, several zombies amble towards you, these are only a few of the many trying to attack you. You protect yourself with a single catapult… I guess it’s Catapult vs Zombies here, not Plants vs Zombies.
This is the catapult. There is a conveyor belt right below it, bringing things like trash, bags, sinks, rocks, etc. to your catapult. To progress in the game, you must use those items to knock out the zombies coming at you.
But there’s a catch! You can’t see the zombies as their coming, so it makes it a lot more difficult to aim for them. Once a zombie gets to you, of course, you’ll lose and have to start over. Interesting game, right?
That’s all for this post! What do you think of it? Like or dislike? Let me know in the comments below.
Second up, credit also goes to idk for finding two cool test scenes for Deep Dive Island, now known as Mission Atlantis of course. In both, you can explore and interact with a few things, but it was just a test so there isn’t much else to it.
While on the topic of Deep Dive Island, or Mission Atlantis, an unused diving suit was also found! As you can see below, it was all black instead of the yellow one that ended up being used. Pretty neat, huh?
Lastly, credit goes to WimpyKidFan for noticing that the Membership page for Poptropica has a new design! While it does look new, improved, and sleek, is this really what we want the Creators’ to be focusing on? Don’t get me wrong, it looks pretty cool! But it does seem like a small step towards “New Poptropica.” And don’t get me started on new islands.
Anyway, that’s it for now guys! If you’re already on summer break, I hope you’re having a blast! Or at least relaxing. If you’re almost there, I believe in you! Hang in there! If you don’t have a summer break… then, uh… *shrug*
