Hey PHB readers! I’m starting a new series here on the PHB called “Blast from the Past” where I showcase interesting things from Poptropica’s history.
For some of the more long term readers, this is going to be a walk down memory lane, inspiring some nostalgia. For some of the newer readers, this may be the first time they encounter some of the awesome things Poptropica has done!
The first episode of this new series is titled Superstars. As some of you may have guessed, this has to do with the five “Superstars” of Poptropica. Three years ago exactly to the date, the Poptropica Creators started a week-long series of posts showcasing some of, who they deemed, Poptropica’s greatest players. These players included Grumpy Icicle, Fierce Moon, Grey Icicle, Quiet Boot, and Sporty Boa, some of whom were avid PHB readers!
These players had achieved some pretty amazing feats such as being in the top ten island finishers for Shrink Ray Island, winning 93 games of Sky Dive, and being undefeated in the Prepare for Impact mini-game. The Creators even gave Fierce Moon’s blog, Poptropica Cheats and Secrets, a subtle shout out.
Back in the day, everyone wanted to be the next superstar. People posted their “superstar resumes” on their blogs, and even in the comments here on the PHB.
Do you remember the PCB’s Superstars, or is this all new to you? Let me know about that and what you think of this new series in the comments below.

Complete Poptropica game on mobile
PHB reader and PTFP owner Silver Wolfrecently informed everyone that for a small price of 5 dollars, you can play all of Poptropica on mobile — not just the islands that have been released on the Poptropica app! See below for the steps.
It works for both Apple and Android devices, which is something that the Poptropica app currently does not feature. Do note, however, that you will have to have an internet connection of some kind for this to work.
Here’s a basic outline of the steps involved:
Download the app “Photon” by Appsverse on the iTunes Store or Google Play Store. It costs US$4.99.
Wait for app to finish installing, then open it.
Enter “poptropica.com” in its search bar, then tap the lightning bolt to activate Flash. Enjoy!
To improve your mobile Poptropica app, click the gear icon to enter the Settings, and set the mode to “Game” and bandwidth to 6. You can choose from a few formats to play the game, but drag works best for Poptropica.
You can read her extensive directions here — remember that I have not been able to try this out, so if you do try it, tell us the results in the comments. 😀
Yesterday, the card was re-uploaded to the store, now with Master Mime on the front of card! If you had the original Avatar Studio Card in your inventory, it too is updated.
I’m sad that Shark Boy was replaced by Master Mime on the card; it just doesn’t feel the same.
New iPhone handheld
The iPad handheld for the Poptropica App was recently removed from everything — inventories, costume closets, etc. — that is, until it reappeared in a new ad that I found on Main Street of Early Poptropica and Monster Carnival. The video ad stand awards both the iPad handheld and a new iPhone handheld for watching the app trailer!
In case you haven’t heard, the official Poptropica game app is now available for iPhones and iPod touches! You can read more about it in Sam’s post below.
Puterpop at age 7
I recently uncovered a video that I had made four years ago, with me playing on my second account, puterpoptropica. I had to share it with you guys, so here it is — humiliation and all. 😛
Making a green-star ad account
Ad accounts are special accounts that always show up on the front of your friends list and have green stars instead of yellow –and now you can make your own with the video walk through below! (Thanks Raqk for the tip)
I just want to make a quick post about the disappearance of Shark Boy, and this is pretty major — the Shark Tooth plush and plastic toys have been removed from stores and the toy page!
If that wasn’t enough, the Shark Boy costume that you get from buying the Shark Boy plastic toy now shows as “Shark Costume”, even though that the original was named “Shark Boy Costume”…
But there still are a few traces of Shark Boy left in the world of Poptropica:
Something fishy’s going on… it seems like beloved Poptropica Creator “Shark Boy” (also known as Nate Greenwall) has changed his name to Shark Guy! When did this happen? And why? That I don’t know, but if you look up SharkGuyCreator on the Avatar Studio, here’s what you’ll get:
Where’s the iconic dead blue fish he usually carries?! Now he’s inexplicably holding a video camera in his hand. (Here’s a far-fetched theory: what if this has to do with Mission Atlantis? A shark, a film device… it might make a little sense…)
Even stranger, if you look up Shark Boy’s old username, SharkBoyCreator, you’ll just get a random Poptropican named Young Catfish who’s wearing the Aztec warrior mask and Tiger Shark body – whereas before you’d get Shark Boy with his name and costume.
HP’s theory on this (which you can read more about in the previous post) is that it might be a cover-up for some kid who got access to Shark Boy’s account, because those who had his old username friended but not his new one would see it replaced with Shark Guy (but with the name “Poptropican”).
PHB readers Big Kid and Cuddly Lion confirm that Shark Guy has been holding the camera handheld ever since Back Lot Island came out (it’s the reward from the bonus quest).
Why are the Creators trying to erase all traces of Shark Boy, and what’s up with all this Shark Guy business? Share your theories in the comments section!
