Map Mishaps, Becoming Official, and More!

Hey Poptropicans, it’s Slanted Fish splashing on!

Everyone’s excited about last week’s release of Poptropica Worlds, and if you haven’t already completed Crisis Caverns Island, fear not – we’ve got a written walkthrough right here, under our Island Help tab. It even comes with pictures and gifs!

puzzle1

Despite all this buzz over Worlds, it looks like the Original Poptropica (which you can access from the top-right button on the Poptropica homepage) hasn’t been completely forgotten about just yet.

If you hop on your blimp, you may notice that the map has been updated to categorize islands by pages! The categories are: Starter, Easy, Adventure (a page each) and Challenging (which takes up six pages). Check it out:

Notice anything funny? The PHB team has a few questions about this new arrangement:

  • Why isn’t Early Poptropica Island in the “Easy” category? (It’s on the fourth “Challenging” page; page 7 overall.) As the first ever Poptropica island, it’s also notoriously and unequivocally one of the easiest to complete, so this placement just seems odd.
  • Why do Timmy Failure, Escape From Pelican Rock, and Shrink Ray show up twice on the map in the same “Challenging” category?
  • Where is Wimpy Wonderland Island?
  • Why is Realms considered a Challenging Island? Shouldn’t it be its own category, much like the “Watch cool videos here!” button on page 1 of the map that brings you to the Home Island theater?
  • Why not some more categories, instead of six pages of Challenging Islands? How about a list for Sponsored Islands (such as the Wimpy Kid islands)? Members-only Islands (although that is most of the sponsored ones…)? Spooky Islands (like Vampire’s Curse, Ghost Story, etc)? What about organizing islands by geographic world locations? So many possibilities!

The last time the map was given a major update was a little over a year ago, when the Poptropica menus were becoming more button-based. Now, this new categorization system was a cool idea, but some things sure seem a little out of place…

weird

Speaking of strange, the Wheel of Loot on the Original Poptropica’s Home Island has now been moved inside to the theater!

There doesn’t seem to be a clear reason for this, but my own guess is that, since there’s already a Wheel of Loot on Poptropica Worlds, they’re making it a step harder here so you’ll spin it there instead. Or maybe they want us to watch more videos. Who knows.

Onto some brighter news! Last week, the PHB (along with several other prolific Poptropica community content creators) were made official VIPs by Poptropica, which stands for Very Important Poptropican.

We’re honored to receive this official recognition after all these years of blogging! Thank you, Poptropica Creators, and all you lovely readers for supporting the blog! ❤️

VIP2560x1440

As VIPs, we were awarded some spiffy graphics to display, which includes the sweet new VIP badge you’ll find on our blog header and sidebar. That’s pretty cool and all, but if we can dream even more, then we hope that perhaps Poptropica can one day officially link to all the VIP/official fansites on the Poptropica site itself (or at least the Creators’ Blog)!

Anyway, that’s all for this post! Let us know what you think in the comments below about the new map, moving the Wheel of Loot, and VIP officialization!

Stay popping, Poptropicans!

Pop Petitions

Pop Petition: What We Want From Pop Worlds

Pop Petition Header

Hey Poptropicans, Spotted Dragon here, and I’m here to kick off a new PHB series!

Pop Petitions, a new PHB post series, will focus on what we (both the PHB team and all of you, the community) want to see changed or added in Poptropica (and/or its surrounding community). Or should I now say, Poptropica Worlds?

Yep, the cat is finally out of the bag and, as of this week, Poptropica Worlds was released the public. It’s not completely polished up yet, but we can at least see what direction the game is headed in from our first look at it!

There have been a lot of changes to what we all know and love from the classic game, but are all these changes necessarily bad? Lots of mixed emotions from everyone in the community on this, that’s for sure. So today, we’ll talk about some of the things that we want to see added to Poptropica Worlds.

#1: Costumizer

Yep, we all noticed it was gone… the Costumizer. We got to see a lot of cool new characters in Pop World’s release, along with a ton of new outfits, but no real way to get all of them. Sure, there was the customization of your character when you first log in, and there will always be the clothes in the store, but what happens when we get jealous of the people we meet on our adventures?

clothing

It’s a classic feature that I’m sure everyone wants back. Right now, I think it’s been tricky for everyone to get their Poptropican’s original look back, and adding this feature would be a step in the right direction, considering that some store apparel is limited to members only.

#2: Colorizer

Another classic feature that allows for infinite customization: the Colorizer! We all know the struggle right now of how tough it can be getting exactly the right skin and hair color for our avatars. Just like the Costumizer, the addition of this feature would really help us personalize our Poptropicans, so I for one hope it gets brought back.

CustomizerNewYou

I mean… what happens when I get the urge to virtually dye my hair? We’ve had a Colorizer on Home Island in the past, so it doesn’t seem like a stretch for it to be put back in the game.

#3: Friends

Adding friends, as well as customizing your own profile, has become a large part of Poptropica. It was fun to customize what your friends were wearing, earn photos from different islands, add costumes to your closet if you could, and so much more. But where has it gone?

Friends, statues, fires and babies.

Before, not only could you add friends, but you could also create multiverses, show off your personality, and more from your profile. Perhaps there could be better ways to personalize your account, and that might be something they’re working on, but it was definitely a nice feature to play around with when taking a break from an island.

#4: Multiverse

Similar to adding friends, Multiverse rooms have always been a fun way to meet up with your pals. Whether it was a random room or an intentionally created party room, Multiverses have always been a big part of the game. You could battle other Poptropicans in head-to-head games, or just relax and chat if you wanted to.

jan2014 multiverse

Adding onto Multiverses, I think it would be cool to have more options when it comes to interacting with friends. Maybe we could invite people to our cool new homes to party?

#5: Home Expansions & Home Island Features

One big new thing that Poptropica Worlds brought us was definitely our houses. Which makes sense, since we have a “Home Island,” right? Anyway, there are currently ways to customize your house, but only with what’s already there. What if we run out of room for our merch? It’s a problem I strongly relate to in the real world.

I think we could definitely benefit from house expansions, and if the locked doors inside our houses are any indicator, perhaps this feature is already on its way – so start saving those credits!

house

Not only would I like to see more house options, but I’d also like to see more features on Home Island itself. In the past, we’ve had the “New You” shop, the “Shop” (store), the photo booth, arcade, and most recently, a movie theater. While the theater was disappointing to most, it would be nice to make the island feel more like a home, with more interactive buildings (a Multiverse perhaps?).

These are just some of the perks that we (the PHB team) want to see, but what about you guys? What do YOU want to see added to Poptropica Worlds? Anything you aren’t liking so far? The new style is here to stay, but that doesn’t mean we can’t throw some other cool ideas out there.

But first things first, right? Let’s see more ISLANDS get added! 😀

Poptropica Worlds

Joy to the world, Poptropica Worlds is here!

Hey, Slip here with some very exciting news…

freakout

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: Poptropica Worlds is finally here!

Poptropica Worlds - Explorers Wanted!

(UPDATE: Poptropica has officially announced the release!) Although we haven’t heard any official announcements from Poptropica yet, the game is finally released on the main Poptropica website, along with iOS devices, and it came out in open beta for Android this past weekend.

Poptropica has revamped the homepage with the Poptropica Worlds banner as a welcoming of the new game! The site features links to various pages (Parents, Membership, etc) and there’s even a button to play the original game.

pworlds

Poptropica Worlds is quite similar to the open beta version, and since it’s recently released, you may find that it’s still prone to some bugs. To begin, you can create a new character or import your account from the original game.

Once you’re in, you can decorate your own home, play Crisis Caverns, and try out new stuff from the Store! You can say that it’s a whole new world out there, right? 😛

This certainly marks a new chapter in Poptropica’s history. What a great day to celebrate! For a closer look at what’s currently available, check out our post below about the Android beta. Yet, there are still more things that Poptropica has in store for us, and it’s only just the beginning…

Meanwhile, here at the PHB, we’ll continue to update you with the latest Poptropica Worlds news and updates! We’ll also be working on a walkthrough for Crisis Caverns (UPDATE: It’s here!) and a more in-depth review of Poptropica Worlds, so stay tuned!

Stay awesome, Poptropicans of the world!

App, Poptropica Worlds

Poptropica Worlds: The “Unreleased” App is Here!

Hey there, Poptropicans!

It’s Happy Lobster, and I’ve got some BIG NEWS for you:

Poptropica Worlds is available to be downloaded as an app on Google Play! It’s currently in open beta for Android, which means it’s not officially released yet, and as a result it may be unstable. But it’s here at last! Download at your own caution!

If you head over to the app’s page on the Google Play Store, you’ll find these new preview images, similar to the shiny ones we saw added for the classic Poptropica app:

So, these images basically convey most the same details as the images on the Poptropica App in Google Play and iTunes. But we can see a few new things in a couple of these pics, such as a few new costumes that aren’t in the original Pop or the Poptropica App images that showed us a glimpse of Worlds, and, much more interestingly, we can see some clear, customizable interiors of our brand-new house in Poptropica Worlds!

Here is the description of the Poptropica Worlds app on Google Play:

Explorers wanted! From the creators of the Poptropica games, now launches Poptropica Worlds. An exciting new game where every player gets to be the hero of their own story!

Venture the twists and turns only your Poptropican can journey.

Poptropica Worlds is a place where imagination and creativity allow you to explore, engage, and interact with a limitless universe of uncharted islands. You will be taken on an adventure through story-based islands that have you battling monsters, solving mysteries, and discovering exclusive locations as your personalized Poptropican avatar. With a world of possibilities, you get to be the writer of your own story.

EXPLORE POPTROPICA WORLDS: Check out different islands, play alongside other Poptropican heroes and villains, and dive into missions only your Poptropican can solve.

TAKE ON DARING QUESTS: Unravel the mysteries that lie in the caves of Crisis Caverns. A deadly supervolcano threatens Poptropica as we know it! To stop it, you must start an adventure taking you deep into the earth and explore areas that have yet to be discovered.

DECORATE YOUR HOUSE FOR YOUR STYLE: Located on your Home Island, this fully customizable House allows for you to create a place you can call your own. Check out the store for the latest additions you can use for a truly personalized look.

PLAY ON-THE-GO WITH YOUR DEVICE: Now you can have a seamless gaming experience between your web and mobile devices! Stay connected via the app to pick up exactly where you left off on your computer.

ENDLESS AVATAR CUSTOMIZATION: With more options than ever, create the avatar you want to best represent you in Poptropica Worlds.

Are you a Poptropican player already? No problem! Import your avatar and account details so you never miss a beat. Get started with this free game and embark on this new journey alongside your fellow Poptropicans!

Now, the only facet of this description that we really didn’t know about already is the part about Crisis Caverns’ plot. A deadly supervolcano threatens Poptropica, and to stop it, we must adventure through undiscovered areas deep below the earth? Interesting…

Anyway, onto the app itself. Again, because it’s technically in open beta, you can probably expect a few bugs here and there if you download it. Also note that this is only available on Android at the moment, so you will not find this on the iTunes App Store or for other devices just yet.

When you go onto the app, you’ll be prompted to either create a new player or log in (with your Poptropica Classic or Poptropica Worlds account). On Worlds, you can pick a player age up to 99, keep refreshing either part of the name options (as opposed to the whole name changing at once), and find yourself born on a cloud, not a box!

(For the following images, we’d like to thank BlazingAngel123! You can click to enlarge them.)

Once you’re ready to go, you’ll be faced with the map, which offers you three options: Home Island, Crisis Caverns, and Play the Original Poptropica! (The latter should bring you to the original, not-Worlds Poptropica game.) You can access the map again through the menu or your blimp on either island.

worldsapp1

Let’s check out Home Island first – here you’ll find your home (of course), which is a nice wooden abode with fairy lights and nested among a big tree. Cliff Housebuff can introduce you to the process of decorating the interior. Your credits are going to come in handy!

Over on the other side of the beach island, you’ll find the daily spin wheel manned by one Captain Scuttlebutt. He may seem like a weirdo, but you’re going to want those credits!

Taking Amelia Earhart’s place in the middle is a new character called Paula Pureheart, who basically offers the same kind of information about exploring Poptropica. Now, back to the blimp!

And yes, it’s true: we get to play Crisis Caverns! In order not to spoil too much right now, and to keep this post at a reasonable length, we’ll review the island more in-depth in a later post. In the meantime, here are a few pictures:

You can see from these pictures that the interfaces and menu is rather button-based, similar to what the current Poptropica looks like as of recently but with some differences. The inventory now pops up at the bottom, with items not having their own card, but showing up in the middle of the screen when clicked on.

A more noteworthy feature is the new Quest Log, which gives you a bar for island progress and lists tasks you have left to do. It can be a bit spoiler-y if you haven’t gotten quite that far to know about certain events, though. Still, it’s a handy feature and a nice answer to our request for a hint system in last year’s Open Letter from the PHB!

worldsapp9

If you click on the menu in the top corner, you’ll see options for: Save, Shop (brings you to the Store for clothing), Closet, Inbox (not currently available, but presumably we’ll receive messages this way), Travel (brings you to the map), and Settings.

Your credit count is displayed in the top-left corner, along with a membership icon prompting you to buy membership if you haven’t already. Not to worry, though: you can net a decent sum of credits by spinning the daily wheel, and completion of Crisis Caverns (and presumably other islands) will grant you 500 credits, a boost from the usual 150. You can also earn (less) credits by re-playing islands.

You may notice if you browse through the Shop (for either clothing or furniture) that some items are for members only, but free players still have plenty to choose from. A new thing that’s pretty neat is that you can purchase clothing items individually, instead of getting the whole costume at once, so you can just get the parts you like and it’s more affordable, too!

Anyway, there’s quite a bit to explore, so if you have an Android device and can’t wait much longer, feel free to check out the app now (but don’t expect it to run perfectly)! As for when it should release for real, and on other devices as well, we can’t be too sure – but Poptropica did hint over on Twitter that it could be VERY SOON

This tweet suggests that it could come out by the end of this month, and there’s only a week and a half left until the end of May, which is coming up fast! With the Android app already on version 1.0, it can’t be much longer now.

Pretty exciting stuff, right?? What are your thoughts so far? Have you played the beta yet? Got any favorite items and features? Tell the world in the comments below! 😀

PHB Specials, Pop-over

PHB Pop-over Special: Scooby-Doo

PHBPop-OverScoobyDoo.png

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here with a new PHB Pop-over special for you all today. The crossover franchise this time around is Scooby Doo!

If you’re not familiar with Scooby Doo in general, the franchise predominantly follows a group of four teenagers (Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy) and their Great Dane, Scooby, as they solve very anomalous mysteries involving supernatural creatures.

If you’re a fan, then do we have some good news for you. Here we have five ready-made costumes of the members of Mystery Incorporated, itself! Just add the usernames in the graphic above (or listed below) and costumize! (You can use the ASG or tools like iPop, accessible on our glitching page, to obtain any non-costumizable items. 😉 )

  • Fred Jones (FredJonesPHB): hair from man in line in front of the Twin Palms Mall (Night Watch Island), handkerchief from the cowgirl in the casino of Dos Cactos (Wild West), shirt from any randomized NPC
  • Daphne Blake (DaphneBlake_PHB): Most of this outfit can be found by randomizing the dummies in the “New You” shop on Home Island. The green handkerchief is on a boy waiting in line on Poptropicon Island, episode 1.
  • Velma Dinkley (VelmaDinkley_PHB): hair from Rosemoji2 (ASG), glasses from randomized NPC, orange shirt in julian0608’s closet, skirt from Sickly Skull on Reality TV
  • Shaggy Rogers (ShaggyRogers_PHB): hair from Mythology Surfer Costume (275 credits), smile from WillyWonkaASG, green shirt from man in front of Berts’s Bed & Breakfast (Cryptids Island), pants from any randomized NPC
  • Scooby Doo (ScoobyPHB): ears from undefineddummy (add to your friends), puppy costume in the Store (brown for snout and body, black for tail, bone from either)

Well, that about wraps up this Poptropica/Scooby-Doo crossover. I hope you enjoyed it, thanks for reading!
