Hello, everyone — Lucky Joker here, and welcome to Community Celebrities!

Community Celebrities is a PHB series where Poptropica community members get to be in the spotlight for their involvement in the community, by being interviewed here on the PHB so fellow Poptropicans can get to know them a bit more. (Find out how to be the next Community Celebrity at the end of this interview!)

Today’s Poptropica personage is Sporty Boa! Sporty Boa blogs actively over on his own site, Sporty Boa Blog, and has been doing so for just over a year now! Let’s get into the interview to know more about this committed Poptropican.

Welcome, Sporty Boa! Could you introduce yourself to everyone?

Hey everyone! I’m Sporty Boa, an animal-loving, laid-back teen who loves blogging and Poptropica! I guess some of you already knew that… Well, do you know I have two cats, a hummingbird, an unnatural hate for Myron Van Buren, phasmophobia, an annoying roommate, a bo staff, and a brother who’s an author here? No?… *breathes heavily* Maybe? Great!

Who is your favorite Poptropica character?

I have two all-time favorite characters from Poptropica, but there so many amazing choices! I’ll have to stick with Harold Mews from Cryptids Island and my boy, Director D!

What’s the best memory you have while playing Poptropica?

Ha! Without a doubt, the Jersey Devil jumpscare. I was either playing or watching with my siblings on the edge of my rolly-chair as we made our way through the (way too) creepy house of Mother Leeds. We made our way downstairs and… Hello! There it was. Not going to get too into detail, but there were screams… and I can neither confirm nor deny they came from me.

What do you think the best feature is on Poptropica Worlds?

Personally, I really like the costume store in Pop Worlds. The separate pieces of clothing you can buy allows for more diverse and unique outfits. And as a “Sporty” dresser myself, this feature gains my approval!

Aside from the PHB, what other Poptropica fan blogs do you read?

Pfft, does “all of them” count as a good answer? I’m always on the lookout for nice, new blogs to follow. I want to have their backs, just as the community did for me when I started blogging!

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about the Poptropica community?

I know, I know, this is pretty cliche, but: the people. The Poptropica community, in particular, has such an abundance of kind and unique characters and I’m both happy and honored to be among them.

Anything else you’d like to say?

I’m just a kid with big dreams, big hair and a big fear of the Nokken. Besides that, I’m also extremely grateful to be here, not just on Community Celebrities, but in the Pop community itself. I’ve had great experiences here and hopefully more to come! Stay awesome, peeps. This Boa’s gotta bounce!

Thanks to Sporty Boa for doing this interview with me! It was quite fun getting to know him a bit more, and I hope everyone else enjoyed what he had to say as well.

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Zippy Sky

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Zippy Sky, who didn’t understand much of Poptropica at first, then came upon the PHB and has since been reading everything she can. See below for details on how to send in your MPIP story for publication here on the PHB!

mpip zs

I’m Zippy Sky, my username is estherli521, and this is “My Place in Poptropica.”

My Older Sister

So, it all started when sometime in my childhood when I begged my older sister to make me my Poptropica account. Wait, let me back up. I’ve known Poptropica through my older sisters, who have played Poptropica since as far as I can remember. When my sister agreed to make me an account, I decided almost immediately for my username to be estherli521 (my name, plus 521 because I was copying my sister’s username, hannahbannanie521).

Soon after, most of my time was consumed by playing Poptropica. One of my earliest memories of playing Poptropica was completing Early Pop—how I disliked the spiders but loved trying out the jetpack all the time. However, I was too young to understand the story plot for the islands, so I only completed a few by purely guessing my way through them.

What I mostly did was to do the Daily Pop, even though I couldn’t read at the time. I also liked changing my (very childish) outfits 24/7, never really being satisfied, but still running and jumping around in them.

2015–2017 | The Long Break

Some time later, I stopped playing Poptropica, mostly because my time was consumed playing other games (such as Club Penguin, Fantage, Moshi Monsters, etc). Meanwhile, I disliked how Poptropica wasn’t really coming out with any good islands—in fact, barely updating.

When I did want to play it, my computer experienced a severe virus attack, which made me unable to use the computer at all. By the time the computer was fixed, I forgot about Poptropica.

July 2017–present | Hooked on the PHB

So you might be wondering: how did I discover the Poptropica Help Blog?

Well, in July 2017 I decided to return to Poptropica. I tried to replay Time Tangled Island, but I had forgotten how to do it. So I surfed the web for a long time looking for the answers. Then, I found the PHB’s island guides!

Later, the PHB helped me with a lot of islands that were hard for me, like Survival, Astro Knights, Back Lot, Lunar Colony, etc. Not only that, but reading the site has helped me to connect with the outside world, since I am homeschooled. I was very interested in the PHB and spent hours trying to look at everything. Soon, I was so hooked that I literally checked it all the time, even when I would wake up in the middle of the night!

The PHB even help me on a particularly rough day, when I needed something to improve my mood. That day, I saw the notice for the PHB’s Poptropica 10th anniversary party, which made my day.

Now, in 2018, I am a fairly active Poptropica player, and I still use the PHB all the time! Thanks for reading; I’ll see you around.

Hope you enjoyed this “My Place in Poptropica” story!

Advertisements

The Adventures of Advertisements

Hello, everyone — Lucky Joker here, sharing a couple of advertisements on Poptropica with you all today. Let’s pop into it!

One advertisement you might see is for Nickelodeon’s newest animated series, The Adventures of Kid Danger, based off the live-action comedy, Henry Danger.

The Adventures of Kid Danger

Upon entering Swellview, you’ll automatically talk to Captain Man, which will begin the minigame. It’s pretty simple and almost identical to minigames we’ve seen in the past.

All you have to do is outrun the popcorn monster whilst also dodging all of the obstacles along the way. Here’s a short video showing you how to play if you need it.

Another ad you may stumble upon is for LEGO Friends. There’s no minigame for this one — just a simple “click to get prize” button. 😛

Lego Friends

The collection of prize cards you’ll earn includes an Escape Tube Power, a Hero Power, and a Heartlake Rush Car. (Take note that, unfortunately, all three of these powers replace some of your clothing items.)

Well that about wraps this post up. Thanks for reading, as always! Talk to you in the next one.

My Place in Poptropica

My Place in Poptropica: Shoeless Raptor

This is the My Place in Poptropica story of Shoeless Raptor, who overcame her fear of Early Pop’s sewers and went on to be an island-completing champ with her siblings. See below for details on how to send in your MPIP story for publication here on the PHB!

Scared of sewers

I was really little when the game came out. All of my three older siblings would constantly play it, but I wasn’t really old enough to understand what was going on.

I tried playing Early Poptropica for the first time by myself when I was 6, but I was too scared of going in the sewers, so I ran away from the computer and cried in my bed! Even though I was too scared and too unskilled at the game to enjoy it, I would always beg my siblings to play so I could watch them.

Moving up and away

As I got older, I found the game easier, and after many hours I finally faced the sewers and completed Early Poptropica Island. I then did 24 Carrot, and I kept attempting other islands until the Wimpy Kid ones came out.

Then our family had to move from Australia to the opposite side of the world. We spent two years in Japan and two years in Greece. (We’ve since moved back to Australia, though.)

In that transitional time, I lost my love for Poptropica. I really didn’t have time for it anyway, and my other siblings didn’t really want to play it anymore. Plus, I didn’t have my own computer since I was still young, so I couldn’t play by myself.

Back and better than ever

Then last year, I decided to log back into my old account and I started playing more. I noticed that there was a beginner island (Monkey Wrench) added, which I never did because I figured it was boring.

I also saw that there was an app. Actually, I got the app before I tried logging in on the computer, and I was outraged for a moment because I thought they took away all the islands. But then I logged on from the computer and everything was fine (lol).

The first day I logged back on, I could do 24 Carrot Island and Early Poptropica in just 20 minutes. From there, I have now completed all of the non-member islands, and now I’m trying to ask for a membership (lol).

And in case you were wondering, my siblings still play it, even though most of them are at university—and they always ask me for help with islands.

Even though I’ve finished all the islands I can, me and my siblings now do time trials to see who can finish Skullduggery Island in the least amount of time. We always prepare a huge plate of snacks before we do this.

And whenever I get home from a long day at school and other activities, I just play some of my all-time favourite islands again. I love Skullduggery, Mystery of the Map (even though it’s easy), Counterfeit, Poptropolis Games, and many more.

That’s my story. Thanks for reading!

Hope you enjoyed this “My Place in Poptropica” story!

Pop Petitions

Pop Petition: What we want from Pop Worlds, Pt. 4

Pop Petition Header

Hello, everyone — Lucky Joker popping in to bring you another Pop Petition!

Like parts 1, 2, and 3, this one is concerning Poptropica Worlds and made with the hope of letting the Creators know about what we’d like to see added to the game to make it even more fun.

We’ve already discussed the idea of more customization, and in this post, we’ll be further talking about just that, along with some brand new ideas as well. Let’s get into it!

#1: Anatomical Customization

Everyone wants to make their character unique, and what better way to do it than by being able to change our height and/or body size?

Poptropica Worlds - New Body Types!

Options like widening your character to match the sumo wrestlers in Red Dragon Island, or stretching yourself taller like Mike Teavee after we stretched him in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island, would allow for greater diversity among characters in Poptropica — and wouldn’t that be something?

#2: Island Trailers

Remember the days when we got an island trailer as a sneak preview of what the upcoming island would be about? For almost every island that was going to be released, a video trailer would precede it, amping us up for what was to come.

watch the trailer.png

I really enjoyed the animated trailers for some of the newer islands like Virus Hunter and Escape from Pelican Rock. It would be nice to see that again with future islands being released on Poptropica Worlds. Granted, Poptropica Worlds is still in its early stages, meaning there haven’t been a lot of islands even released yet.

Although the Creators did release a preview clip for the revamped 24 Carrot Island for Worlds, they released the clip after the island came out, instead of before. Trailers/preview clips released before an island really stirred up the hype, and that’s the way it should be.

Though trailers weren’t the biggest or most important feature, it was always nice to get a glimpse of what to expect in our next adventure. Nowadays, compared to older days, Poptropica hardly gives us any sneak peeks at all.

#3: Photo Booth

The addition of the Photo Booth on Home Island back in 2015 was one of Poptropica’s biggest, most popular updates.

LJPhoto

Being able to make silly or spooky photos, perhaps featuring your Poptropican and/or some of Poptropica’s most beloved characters, was really fun, and served as a great boredom buster while waiting for a new island. I mean, sure, it’s still accessible on Poptropica Original, but as we all know… Flash—which is what Poptropica Original is built on—won’t be here forever.

And how cool would it be if the characters in the Photo Booth were in Poptropica Worlds’ art style! Plus, newer characters from Poptropica Worlds could be added in: Poptropicans like the dazzling Iris Ray or the coin-giving Captain Scuttlebutt.

#4: House “Liking” Feature

It sure is amusing to buy and use furniture items to decorate your house, and we really appreciate that you can now interact with some of your furniture items.

However, it would be cooler if there was more purpose in decorating. I think being able to share your creations by allowing other Poptropicans to visit and leave a like for your house (similar to what other virtual worlds have done already—even Realms on Poptropica Original had this feature) would be super exciting! I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s thought of this.

#5: World Champions Map

Though this feature wasn’t essential for actual gameplay, I still think it should be carried on to Poptropica Worlds. The World Champions Maps were a little extra something to make completing new islands more thrilling, by encouraging you to race others against the clock and see who’d beat the islands first.

mythology player map

When competition is added to the mix, more people would play the islands. Being one of the first 10, or 100, or even 1000 finishers was always a goal of mine, and I’m sure for a lot of other people as well.

Maybe the Creators can even do a membership sweepstakes where the first ten finishers of a new island get free memberships, or even give a shout-out on the Creators’ Blog like they used to do some time ago. I think this is a great strategy for bringing more players to Worlds from Poptropica Original.

I think adding these features would really enhance the overall experience of Poptropica Worlds. And really, we don’t know what the Creators are working on at this very moment, so for all we know, some of these features may already be in the works!

Disclaimer: this post is not to meant to bash the Poptropica Creators or to make Worlds out to be an unpleasant game. The aim was to list out some suggestions of what we’d like to see adopted or added to Worlds to make the game even better.

What cool stuff would you like to see added to the game? Don’t be afraid to leave your suggestions in the comments section down below. Remember, your thoughts matter too—and the Creators may just take you up on your ideas!

Thanks for reading, as always! Talk to you in the next one.
